A former Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State, Enyinnaya Onuegbu yesterday asked Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha to either settle down and provide real governance for the state or resign. The PDP chieftain who stated this while speaking with journalists in Owerri, the state capital, claimed that Okorocha had abandoned his duties as a governor to promote his personal political ambitions. Onuegbu claimed that the governor had left the state in the hands of his son-in-law, who is his chief of staff. “A situation where the governor abdicates his office and prefers junketing from one state to the other, promoting his personal political ambition, leaving the running of the state to his son-in-law, who is his chief of staff, is unacceptable to the people of the state. “Okorocha is running Imo like a sole administrator of a private business. Five months into his second term, there is no state executive, no advisers and more worrisome is that the House of Assembly has been more on recess than on legislative business.” http://dailypost.ng/2015/10/19/okorocha-has-abandoned-imo-for-his-son-in-law-to-govern-he-should-resign-pdp-scribe/

Two siblings were on Friday burnt to death in an early morning inferno that razed a three bedroom flat in Lagos. The incident occurred inside the Navy Officers’ quarters, Camp site, Kirikiri, at about 3:30am, killing two brothers aged six and nine years. The Nation gathered that their father, a Navy Captain, was out of town with their mother when the incident occurred. Our correspondent learnt that they had left their three children with their house help, identified as Patience. Although the fire broke out when all the four occupants of the flat were fast asleep, Patience, it was gathered, rescued the couple’s first son, Ayomide, 13. Unfortunately, the younger sons did not survive the disaster allegedly caused by an electrical surge. The fire was said to have been put out at about 4:30am, by a combined team of Fire Service, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and policemen from the Kirikiri division. When contacted, LASEMA’s General Manager, Micheal Akindele said the remains of the deceased were taken to Navy hospital in the area, adding that the other two occupants of the flats were treated by LASAMBUS. He stated that they were also taken to Navy hospital for further examination and treatment. Akindele said: “Preliminary report revealed that the fire was caused by electrical spark from one of the rooms in the building, spreading to the whole apartment. “Prompt intervention of the fire service stopped the fire from spreading to surrounding buildings. “I want to appeal to Lagosians that proper checks be carried out on cables and electrical installations to avoid unnecessary loss of lives and properties.” http://thenationonlineng.net/two-siblings-die-in-navy-barracks-inferno-2/ cc: lalasticlala

A socio-political organisation, Ijaw Youths Democratic Association (IYDI), has raised the alarm that the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State is allegedly stockpiling weapons and recruiting cultists with a view to unleashing mayhem on innocent citizens to rig the December 5 governorship election in its favour. The group also claimed that APC was plotting to use violence, intimidation and various federal agencies, including security personnel, to rig the election. The IYDI, in a statement on Thursday by its President, Ebifagha Timothy, and Secretary-General, Tilly Ekaunkumo, stated that the APC and its candidate, Chief Timipre Sylva, were neither campaigning nor setting up any machineries in motion, as a party about to go into an election as close as December 5. The organisation alleged that the state APC was busy recruiting cultists from outside the South-South state, who are already attacking and kidnapping innocent Bayelsans, while security positions are also being attacked, with arms being carted away to create an arms base for the cultists, preparatory to executing their plans of rigging the elections. The Ijaw Youths Democratic Association said the intention of the APC is to carry out massive rigging of the polls, using the armed cultists and force the election umpire to announce the results in their favour, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) goes to court. It noted that such acts of lawlessness and brigandage, if allowed to thrive, would be spelling serious doom for the nation’s democracy, stressing that President Muhammadu Buhari, who is a major beneficiary of former President Goodluck Jonathan’s democratic disposition, should rise to the occasion and nip this plan in the bud. “The only way President Buhari and the APC can demonstrate the change they profess to have enshrined in the polity is for them to ensure that a free, fair and credible election holds, where every eligible voter in Bayelsa State will be allowed to vote; one man, one vote. “He is a beneficiary of a fair, free and credible election, where the incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan, even had to call to congratulate him before the final results were announced, so it would be too sad to see him allow an election to be rigged under his watch and so soon too” The statement also called on the entire people of the state to be alert at all times and not allow themselves or their children and youths to be used to subvert democracy under any guise, stressing that, no Bayelsan, who means well for the state, should fall prey to the undemocratic and selfish manipulations of the APC in the state. http://dailyindependentnig.com/2015/10/apc-stockpiling-arms-recruiting-cultists-for-bayelsa-poll/ |
The greatest achievements of PDP is the liberalisation of the democratic space in Nigeria. So, PDP can beat its chest and call itself the grand father of democracy in Nigeria. Mimiko has said it all. Am not a member of any political party, but the truth must be pointed out here. APC should handle its mandate with caution and fear of God God bless you all... |

The Zamfara state police command, Wednesday, arrested a 15-year-old boy identified as Yusuf Saleh after he allegedly disguised as a girl and sneaked into girls’ dormitory at the Federal College of Education (Technical) Gusau, the state capital, Daily Trust reports. Reports claim Saleh had sneaked into the female hostel at about 6am on Wednesday so that he could allegedly catch a glimpse of the naked female students while they were bathing in an open space. His discovery allegedly threw the school into pandemonium as the students thought he was a Boko Haram member who was there to attack them. According to reports, the President of the Student Union Government of the college, Ibrahim Maryam, said Saleh was seen wearing a wrapper, hijab and a headscarf. Maryam added that one of her colleagues who was able to reveal his real identity drew the attention of other students and he was quickly caught and handed over to the college security personnel. Upon interrogation, the culprit alleged that he dressed as a female so he can avoid being denied access to the hostel. According to him, he was just there to ‘see how the hostel looked like.’ When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Sanusi Amiru, confirmed the incident and said investigations were ongoing and that the suspect would be charged to court soon. http://dailypost.ng/2015/10/15/15-year-old-boy-disguises-as-female-to-peep-at-girls-bathing/

Ahead of the governorship elections in Kogi and Bayelsa States billed for November 21 and December 5 respectively, the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has alleged that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) was inciting violence in these states. The party in a statement on Wednesday, by its National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, said the APC was making this plot with a view to causing confusion, frustrate the electoral process and possibly impede the forthcoming governorship elections in the states. It said the APC, having realized that it did not have the support of the electorates in the two states, especially given its unpopular candidates, was now employing devious machinations, including violence to terrorize the people, disrupt and eventually truncate the elections. The party said: “The imprints of the APC could be felt in the sudden militancy in Kogi as well as the growing cases of political violence in Bayelsa ahead of the November 21 and December 5 governorship elections in the two states respectively. “The APC has perfected a heinous plot to inject crisis in Kogi and Bayelsa, ostensibly to frustrate the electoral procedures within the constitutional time frame, so as to prevent PDP candidates, Governors Idris Wada and Seriake Dickson from being re-elected into office. “We invite Nigerians to note that the build up to the militancy in Kogi has been long started by the APC and its candidate, Prince Abubakar Audu, who has been fouling the state’s political environment with hate and inciting utterances, including threats to lives of PDP supporters and perceived political opponents. “Intelligence information available to us indicates that the APC has been training and arming thugs to unleash mayhem and destabilize the state ahead of the election. “Recall that earlier this month, Prince Abubakar Audu directed these thugs to attack and “kill” PDP supporters and those perceived to be opposed to the ambition of the APC in the state. Nigerians should therefore not be surprised at the sudden militancy in Kogi state. We know that the aim here is to infuse confusion, truncate the electoral process and eventually rig the poll in favour of the APC. “Also, in Bayelsa state, the APC in its desperation for power has been heating up the system and arming thugs, apparently to cause crisis in the state polity, frighten the electorate and possibly derail the election to their advantage. “Nigerians are witness to the sponsored violence that characterized the APC governorship primaries in Bayelsa, with party leaders pointing accusing fingers at APC’s candidate, Chief Timipre Sylva. “We are aware that the same set of APC thugs used during their primaries have now been further armed and instructed to attack PDP members and perceived opponents of the APC, intimidate electoral officials and disorganize the elections. “The PDP therefore charge Nigerians, all security agencies and the international community to note the evil machination of the APC and hold them responsible for the growing disturbances, especially should there be any breakdown of law and order during the governorship elections in the states. “In the same vein, we call on President Muhammadu Buhari to see the two forthcoming elections as litmus tests of his democratic credentials. He should, as duty demands of him as the father of the nation to ensure that he takes immediate steps to rein in members of his party, the APC in the two states. “We also call on the people of these two core PDP states of Kogi and Bayelsa to be vigilant and ensure that they do not fall prey to the gimmicks of the APC in their desperation to subvert their will and steal their mandate. “Finally, the PDP wishes to state categorically that it would not hesitate to use any means available within the ambit of the law to ensure free and transparent elections and would not accept any attempt by anybody whatsoever to rob us of our oncoming deserving electoral victory in these states.” http://dailypost.ng/2015/10/15/apc-inciting-violence-in-kogi-bayelsa-to-disrupt-polls-pdp/

Unknown gunmen have attacked the home of former President Goodluck Jonathan’s Senior Special Assistant on Domestic Matters, Mr. Waripamowei Dudafa, in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. The Nation gathered that the gunmen accosted policemen guarding the building on Tuesday evening and opened fire on them. The incident was the second attack on Dudafa’s home by armed men. In April this year, gunmen dressed in mobile police uniform burgled the home of Dudafa and carted away an undisclosed sum of money after vandalising the safe kept in one of the rooms. It was gathered that the Tuesday attack occurred at about 5:00pm in front of the expansive building located at the Okaka Estate. The bandits were said to have shot one of the policemen twice, while others reportedly fled to different directions for safety. Our correspondent gathered that the gunmen alighted from their Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV), disarmed the injured policeman and fled with his AK47 rifle. A security source who spoke in confidence said: “The gunmen stormed the vicinity on a Lexus SUV. Though they did not gain entrance into the building, they opened fire on security operatives at the gate. It was a surprise attack. One of the policemen was shot twice, while others fled.” http://thenationonlineng.net/gunmen-attack-ex-presidential-aides-home/ |

A man suspected to be a member of the Boko Haram sect and disguised in female attire, has been apprehended by a vigilante group in Birnin Kebbi. Alhaji Abubakar Bello, the General Manager of Birnin Kebbi Central Market, made this disclosure to newsmen in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday. Bello said that the man (names withheld), was caught within Birnin Kebbi central market with the assistance of traders and customers in the market. The market manager said that he was unaware of the suspect’s motive of appearing in a complete women’s dress. “People are now more conscious than ever, as they are conscious of any suspicious movement lurking around,” Bello said. He said the suspect was apprehended by the vigilante group after an alarm was raised by the people patronising the market. “We later alerted the security agencies in the state on the development and we handed him over to them for further investigation,” he added. When contacted, ASP Nafi’u Abubakar, the state police command’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), confirmed the incident.
