Politics › IPOB Declares Sit-at-home In 10 Northern Cities by DONSMITH123(op): 6:13pm On May 24, 2017 |
Tony Okafor, AwkaThe Indigenous People of Biafra on Wednesday declared that its sit-at-home order scheduled for May 30 had been extended to 10 areas in northern Nigeria and Abuja.
It gave the 10 areas to include: Kano, Kaduna, Jos, Makurdi, Gigawa, Jalingo, Yola and Lafia.
It added that the order would also be observed in Ibadan, Benin, and Lagos.
In a press statement made available to our correspondent in Awka, Anambra State by the media and publicity secretary of IPOB, Emma Powerful, the group urged its members to strictly observe the order wherever they would be. It maintained that this year’s Remembrance Day celebration of the group necessitating the sit-at-home would be unique and significant in every ramification.
The statement said “We the indigenous people of Biafra under the leadership and command structure of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu wish to declare once again that the 30th of May 2017 remembrance day celebration and sit at home order issued to honour and remember our fallen heroes and heroines must hold.
“The sit at home order must be extending to other parts of Nigeria where Biafrans and supporters of Biafra have presence like Kano, Kaduna, Jos, Makurdi, Ibadan, Benin, Abuja, Lagos, Lokoja, Gigawa, Jalingo, Mubi, Yola and Lafia.
“This sit-at -home order/remembrance and honour of our fallen heroes which is slated to be observed on 30th of May this year will be the best thing to happen to the people of Biafra since 50 years. http://punchng.com/ipob-declares-sit-at-home-in-10-northern-cities/

Politics › Court Grants Ex-NNPC Boss, Yakubu’s Request For Medical Trip To UK by DONSMITH123(op): 5:56pm On May 24, 2017 |
Ade Adesomoju, AbujaA Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday granted leave to a former Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Andrew Yakubu, to travel to the United Kingdom for three weeks to enable him to continue his medical treatment. Yakubu’s application was not opposed by the prosecuting counsel, Mr. Ben Ikani, but urged the court to release the passport to the defendant’s lawyer, Mr. Ahmed Raji (SAN). In his ruling on the application, the trial judge, Justice Ahmed Mohammed, adopted the suggestion by Ikani and also ordered that the defendant’s surety must depose to an affidavit of liability if the ex-NNPC GMD failed to return to Nigeria to attend his trial. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is prosecuting Yakubu on six counts bordering on fraud and false declaration of assets filed against him on March 10, 2017. Operatives of the EFCC had recovered the sum of $9.7m and £74,000 stashed in a huge fireproof safe in a house belonging to Yakubu in a slum in Kaduna. The sums of foreign currencies, which were the subject of the charges instituted against Yakubu amounted to about N3bn. The prosecution had on May 9, 2017 called its first witness, Mr. Tasiu Abubakar, who narrated to the court how the the sums of $9,772,800 and £74,000 were recovered from Yakubu’s house in Kanduna. Abubakar, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, on secondment to the EFCC, said he was part of a team of investigators that recovered a safe containing the money in a house in Sabo-Tasha, Kaduna allegedly owned by Yakubu. The witness was to be cross-examined by the defence on Wednesday. Cc: lalasticlala http://punchng.com/court-grants-ex-nnpc-boss-yakubus-request-for-medical-trip-to-uk/ |

TheShopKeeper: Seriously, if PMB should get better after his current health vacation, APC should start looking for another presidential candidate for 2019 elections, because PMB is not fit, healthwise to continue, there's no room for absent presidency...
Going forward, I think there should be a law that all candidates for political posts in Nigeria to undergo extensive health checkup. i concur bro. |

Olalekan Adetayo, AbujaThe Presidency on Tuesday said if another presidential election were to be held today, President Muhammadu Buhari would still win like he did in 2015.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said this while addressing State House correspondents at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
He was joined by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina; and the SSA on Media and Publicity to the Acting President, Laolu Akande.
Shehu said Nigerians were happy with Buhari and would still vote for him despite whatever the Peoples Democratic Party and other opposition parties might be saying.
He said the confidence reposed in Buhari by ordinary Nigerians had remained unshaken because the President, according to him, is doing what they want. http://punchng.com/buhari-will-win-presidential-election-again-says-presidency/
