The Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, has said that his principal will not resign and that those asking him to, are “merely expressing their opinions.”

Adesina stated this during an interactive session with journalists, at the launch of Olusegun Adeniyi’s new book, ‘Against The Run of Play,’ on Friday in Lagos.

“Saying the president should resign is an opinion but don’t forget that 15 million people elected the president so if one or two people express their opinion, will their opinion override that of 15 million people that voted for him?” he asked.

“Those who are expressing their opinion have rights to their opinion.”

On the state of Buhari’s health, he said: “There is no need for apprehension, God spared the president the first time. Remember he said that he has never been as ill as he was before. The same God that spared him will also ensure that he returns to full health. Nigerians prayed and God answered, Nigerians are still praying and God will still answer.”

Buhari on Friday, failed to attend the Jummat prayer in Aso Villa , after failing to convene the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting for the third consecutive week.

Olalekan Adetayo, Abuja

President Muhammadu Buhari was on Friday absent at the Juma’at service held inside the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The President has been joining Muslim faithful for the prayers inside a mosque near his office since he stopped attending the service at the National Mosque, Abuja.

Three state governors who apparently planned to join Buhari for the prayers were however present.

The governors who attended the prayer session included Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun); Abdulaziz Yari (Zamfara); and Abdullahi Ganduje (Kano).

The governors had on Thursday joined their colleagues for a meeting of the National Economic Council at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

No official reason has been given for Buhari’s absence at the prayer session at the time of filing this report.

It will, however, be recalled that the Presidency had on Thursday said as eager as the President wanted to be up and about, his doctors have advised him to take things slowly.

In the statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, the Presidency, however, assured Nigerians that there is no need for apprehension over the state of health of the President.

While saying that the President himself on his return to the country made Nigerians aware of the state of his health while he was in London, Shehu said full recovery is sometimes a slow process, requiring periods of rest and relaxation, as the Minister for Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, intimated in his press briefing after the FEC meeting on Wednesday.

He added, “Despite his lack of visibility, Nigerians should rest assured that President Buhari has not abdicated his role as Commander-in-Chief of Nigeria. He receives daily briefings on the activities of government and confers regularly with his Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo.

“His private residence, in which he has been spending the majority of his time recently, also has a fully equipped office.

“God is the giver of life and health. We are grateful that He has seen our President through the worst period of his convalescence in London.

“We are thankful that the President has passed a number of benchmarks already. We pray that God continues to see him through this period of recuperation.”

Reports reaching DAILY POST has it that the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, has fulfilled his bail conditions granted him by an Abuja Federal High Court.

PoliticsEl-zakzaky: Falana Writes Buhari, Threatens To Sue AGF, DSS Boss by DONSMITH123(op): 6:51pm On Apr 26, 2017
Ade Adesomoju, Abuja

Human rights lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN) has written President Muhammadu Buhari, over the continued detention of the leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria also known as the Shi’ites, Ibraheem Elzakzaky and his wife, Hajia Ibraheem-Elzakzaky.

Falana’s letter to the President was dated Wednesday, April 26, 2017.

He threatened that should the President fail to ensure the release of the couple, he would institute a contempt suit against the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami (SAN), and the Director-General of the Department of State Service, Mr. Lawal Daura, for disobeying the court judgment which ordered the couple’s release.

He stated that the couple’s continued detention was in violation of the judgment of Justice Gabriel Kolawole of the Federal High Court, Abuja delivered on December 2, 2016.

He reiterated that the Federal High Court had in the judgment declared the detention of his clients illegal and unconstitutional and ordered their release from the custody of the DSS within 45 days from the date of the judgment.

He added that if those indicted by the Kaduna State Judicial Commission of Enquiry were prosecuted, he would have no other choice than to approach the International Criminal Court to seek the trial of soldiers fingered in the murder of 347 members of the Shia Community at Zaria during a bloody clash with soldiers in the convoy of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai in December 2015.

He anchored his letter on the promise by President Buhari to end impunity, a vice which he said his client was currently suffering from.

Falana said while the DSS continued to illegally hold El-Zakzaky and his wife in custody, the Army authorities had refused to fish out and prosecute the soldiers who were allegedly responsible for the murder of 347 Shi’ites, and tha the police were “violently” disrupting the peaceful rallies of the group.

The letter read in part, “In Your Excellency’s New Year Message delivered to the Nigerian people on January 1, 2017 you said inter alia:

“As for our brothers and sisters of the Shia Community, we urge them too, to embrace peace.

“They must accept the laws of the country they live in. They cannot be island by themselves. At the same time, the law enforcement agencies must treat them humanely and according to the rule of law.”

“But contrary to your Excellency’s admonition, the law enforcement agencies have refused to treat members of the Shia community ‘humanely and according to the rule of law’.

“In particular, the State Security Service has refused to comply with the order of the Federal High Court to the effect that Sheikh Elzakzaky and his wife be released from further detention.

PoliticsWhy I Attended Kanu’s Trial – Fayose by DONSMITH123(op): 6:02pm On Apr 26, 2017
Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State on Wednesday explained his presence at the trial of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Mr Nnamdi Kanu, saying it is in line with his belief in justice for all irrespective of tribe.

Fayose further vowed to attend the trials of former National Security Adviser, Colonel Sambo Dasuki (Rtd), and the leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.

The governor, who was speaking on African Independent Television’s programme ‎People, Politics and Power, said he would never support a situation whereby court orders, rulings and judgments are disregarded by the government.

“The Federal Government are the ones making Kanu a hero. Anywhere in the world, agitation is normal. In the United Kingdom, there is agitation in Northern Ireland, even, United Kingdom itself is agitating in Europe. Let people agitate for whatever reason as long as it is constitutional. I am not in support of the break up of Nigeria. But ‎when court grants bail to people, release them and allow them to attend their trials from home,” a statement by the governor’s Chief ‎Press Secretary, Mr Idowu Adelusi, quoted Fayose as saying.

“I have no personal relationship with Kanu but I have been consistent in drawing attention of Nigerians to the trend of not regarding court orders and rulings by the present Federal‎ Government. I am from the North, East, West and South of this country. I am a complete and detribalised Nigerian. I will attend the trial of Dasuki and El-Zakzaky too. Courts in the land and even ECOWAS Court directed that Dasuki be released but the government has refused to heed the call.”

PoliticsRe: Court Orders Interim Forfeiture Of Patience Jonathan’s $5.8m by DONSMITH123(op): 3:50pm On Apr 26, 2017
uPDATE

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has secured a fresh court order to freeze the Skye Bank account of Mrs. Patience Jonathan, wife of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, with a balance of $5.9m.

The fresh freezing order was granted on Wednesday by Justice Mojisola Olatoregun of the Federal High Court in Lagos.

The new freezing order came barely 24 hours after the court had given Patience unfettered access to the seized funds.

The EFCC had earlier placed a “No Debit Order” on the account late last year pursuant to an interim order by Justice Olatoregun.

But Patience, through her lawyer, Mr. Ifedayo Adedipe (SAN), had challenged the action and succeeded in getting the court to vacate the freezing order on April 6, 2017.

The EFCC, which was displeased, had immediately gone on appeal and also filed an application seeking a stay of execution of the freezing order pending the outcome of the appeal.

But in a dramatic twist on Tuesday, a counsel for the EFCC, Mr. Rotimi Oyedepo, appeared before Justice Olatoregun, saying the commission had changed its mind about challenging the freezing order and applied to withdraw the application to stay the execution of the unfreezing order.

Consequently, the judge on Tuesday struck out the application for stay of execution, giving Patience unfettered access to the funds.

The judge also granted an application by counsel for Skye Bank, Mr. Lanre Ogunlesi (SAN), that the Form 48 and Form 49 filed against his client by Patience to cite his bank for contempt, should be struck out.

However, on Wednesday, the EFCC lawyer, Oyedepo, reappeared before the judge with a new ex parte application to freeze Patience’s account afresh.

Apart from the Skye Bank account with $5.9m, the EFCC also prayed the court to freeze an Ecobank account, with a balance of N2.4bn, which was opened in the name of one La Wari Furniture and Bath Limited.

The anti-graft agency said the funds were reasonably suspected to be proceeds of crime.

In an affidavit filed in support of the new application, an operative of the EFCC, Musbahu Abubakar, stated that Patience opened the Skye Bank account on February 7, 2013, and used it to allegedly warehoused proceeds of crime.

According to Abubakar, the former first lady made several cash deposits in United States dollar into the account, through a former Special Assistant to ex-President Jonathan, Waripamo-Owei Dudafa, and a State House steward, Festus Iyoha.

He said as of January 30, 2015, the Skye Bank account had a balance of $6.7m but Patience subsequently withdrew it down to $5.7m.

The EFCC prayed the court to urgently freeze the account so as to prevent Patience for moving the funds.

After hearing the lawyer out, the judge said, “The order is granted as prayed.”

She equally granted the EFCC’s prayer to publish the order in a national newspaper and adjourned till May 15, 2017, for any interested party to appear in court to show cause why the money should not be forfeited to the Federal Government permanently.

PoliticsBuhari Fails To Convene FEC Meeting For Third Consecutive Week, Osinbajo Preside by DONSMITH123(op): 12:17pm On Apr 26, 2017
President Muhammadu Buhari today failed to convene the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, for the third consecutive time.

Today’s meeting is being presided over by Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo.

Buhari’s cabinet waited until 11am for him to show up, before the State House Chief of Protocols whispered into Osinbajo’s ears.

The Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa was also noticeably scanty, with only about 20 Ministers seated.

Osinbajo began the meeting with the National Anthem, as well as prayers by the Ministers of Education and Health, Adamu Adamu and Isaac Adewole respectively.

Two weeks ago, Buhari was also absent at the weekly council meeting.

The meeting did not hold last week, with the Presidency citing the Easter break as the reason.
