Former New Media Director of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Prince Deji Adeyanju, has been released by the Nigeria Police Force. Announcing his release on his twitter handle, Adeyanju wrote, “Released. I have told them that the protests will continue. We will not STOP and we will not be cowed.” Recall that Adeyanju, who doubles as convener of Concerned Nigeria group was earlier arrested at the Unity Fountain with another leader of the movement, Brian Jonah Dennis. Deji had yesterday informed Nigerians that protest organized against the Nigerian government over its insistence on the secret trial of Nnamdi Kanu would kick off in Abuja today. However, the PDP Chieftain, in a series of tweets, claimed that all entrances to the Unity Fountain were barricaded by men of the Nigeria Police before he was whisked away by the officers. The PDP chieftain has been in the forefront of the campaign calling for the immediate release of all political prisoners, including the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu. He has been championing the #NoToSecretTrial for Nnamdi Kanu on social media. Against this backdrop, a Civil Society Group known as Movement for the Advancement of National Transformation, MANTRA, had warned of dire consequences if Ayeyanju was not released. http://dailypost.ng/2017/04/21/nnamdi-kanu-ex-pdp-social-media-director-deji-adeyanju-released/

The Foundation for Human Rights And Anti-Corruption Crusade, FHRACC, has called on the Federal Government to disband the Prof. Itse Sagay-led Presidential Advisory Committee on Corruption for allegedly giving the suspended Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. David Babachir Lawal, a clean health bill before his suspension. Mr. Babachir and the Director General of the Nigeria Intelligence Agency, NIA, Amb. Ayo Oke were recently suspended by the Presidency for their alleged involvement in the monies found at the Osborne Towers, Ikoyi Lagos State. In a statement signed and made available to DAILY POST, FHRACC, National President, Alaowei Ebikonbowei, Esq claimed that Prof. Itse Sagay’s led committee is singing sycophantic songs around the government, pointing out that it has not given any reasonable advice to the Presidency since its inauguration. “We have not seen any good advice they have ever given to the President other than to sing sycophantic song around the Government. Is it not ironical for Sagay to give the SGF a clean bill of health, while the Presidency in its resolve to stamp out corruption from our body polity suspended the man? For Sagay, none of the Buhari’s appointees is corrupt no matter the weight of allegation against them. It is a sheer waste of our scarce resources for the Government to keep some people in pay role for political patronage.” FHRACC stated that for the President to Subject a matter that is being handled by the EFCC to a different panel is usurping the functions of the anti-graft Agency, apparently to save some supposed culprits who may be falling prey to the anti-graft’s marauding hook. While noting that the action of the President in suspending the duo was commendable, FHRACC stated that the suspension came rather too late as many issues surrounding the EFCC’s recovery spree are still begging for his attention. FHRACC opined that the President, “is to cut short the long arm of the law from piercing further into the hearts of some untouchable haloes in his Government.” It suggested that the Presidency should have done more than appointing a compromised persons to give a prepared verdict of the victims’ innocence, especially the case involving the SGF and the NIA Director. “There is more to it than meets the ordinary eyes. The Government is deliberately dusting the political weather with this warped and convoluted rhetorics in order to bury the more pressing issues associated with the invisible owner of the foreign and local currencies found in the Osborne Tower in Ikoiyi, Lagos.” FHRACC who gave a critical assessment of the Government’s body language said,” it appears to us that the Presidency for reasons best known to it, is not interested in knowing the real owner of Plot 7B of the Osborne Tower where the money was alleged to have been found.” “The media witch hunt that followed the embarrassing news where the EFCC is pointing accusing fingers at every tom, dick and harry without taking steps to investigate same is another satirical play authored by the Government to divert attention. The whole scenario has played out the Government’s plans who only intends to use the NIA boss as the scapegoat in order to stage manage the mystery behind the whole drama.” http://dailypost.ng/2017/04/21/babachir-lawal-disband-sagays-committee-giving-sgf-clean-bill-group/

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), has insisted he is not aware of his suspension. Lawal said this while speaking with State House correspondents, following his meeting with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo. When he was asked to react to his suspension, he responded “who announced it?”. When he was told that it was the presidency, Lawal replied “then ask them. Why are you asking me? Who is the presidency?” The SGF was told about the press release signed by Buhari’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina and he said: “I have not seen it. I should have been given. I have not seen the press release, so I cannot comment on it.” President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered an investigation into the allegations of violations of law and due process made against him, with regard to the award of contracts under the Presidential Initiative on the North East (PINE). The statement made available to DAILY POST read: “President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered an investigation into the allegations of violations of law and due process made against the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr David Babachir Lawal, in the award of contracts under the Presidential Initiative on the North East (PINE). “The President has also directed the suspension of the SGF from office pending the outcome of the investigations. “In a related development, the President has ordered a full scale investigation into the discovery of large amounts of foreign and local currencies by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in a residential apartment at Osborne Towers, Ikoyi, Lagos, over which the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) has made a claim. “The investigation is also to enquire into the circumstances in which the NIA came into possession of the funds, how and by whose or which authority the funds were made available to the NIA, and to establish whether or not there has been a breach of the law or security procedure in obtaining custody and use of the funds. “The President has also directed the suspension of the Director General of the NIA, Ambassador Ayo Oke, pending the outcome of the investigation. “A three-man Committee comprising the Hon. Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, and the National Security Adviser, headed by the Vice President, is to conduct both investigations. “The Committee is to submit its report to the President within 14 days. “The most senior Permanent Secretary in the SGF’s office, and the most senior officer in the NIA, are to act, respectively, during the period of investigation.” Last month, Lawal insisted he is innocent of the allegations levelled against him over the N1.3billion grass-cutting contract. Fresh facts have emerged regarding the suspension of Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal. Lawal was meeting with the Vice-President, Yemi Osinbajo, in his office, when the Presidency suspended him. There are speculations that the embattled SGF, was being advised about the decision and told not to take it personal with President Muhammadu Buhari. It is understood that Lawal was reportedly suspended, because Buhari is perceived to be losing his fight against corruption, with some of his key appointees facing allegations from several quarters. Osinbajo also told him pointedly that the outcome of the investigation will determine his fate. Recall that statement signed by Buhari’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina and made available to DAILY POST had announced the suspension of the SGF. The statement reads: “President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered an investigation into the allegations of violations of law and due process made against the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr David Babachir Lawal, in the award of contracts under the Presidential Initiative on the North East (PINE). The All Progressives Congress, APC, has dismissed the criticism by Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, that some looters were allegedly hiding stolen funds in Aso Villa in Abuja. The party said no amount of blackmail would derail the anti-graft war being waged by the party at the federal level. According to the APC, Fayose’s outburst against Buhari is geared towards shielding members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, from being made to account for the monies they allegedly looted under President Goodluck Jonathan-led government. Deputy Chairman of the APC in Ekiti State, Kemi Olaleye, stated this in Ado Ekiti , on Tuesday while receiving some gift items from a governorship aspirant , Engr Kayode Ojo at the party’s Secretariat. Recall that the governor on Monday accused some Buhari’s confidants and top members of the ruling party of stocking looted funds in Aso Villa to prevent them from the eyes of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, describing the scenario as selective and provocative. Olaleye, however, described Fayose’s allegation as baseless and spurious, saying “Ordinarily, I would not have dignified Governor Fayose with a response, but for the purpose of clarity his noise was targeted at derailing the war against corruption. “How can Fayose accuse anybody of corruption? In Ekiti State, he is the Finance Commissioner, the Accountant General, in fact , he is acting like all-in-all. He is corrupt himself and afraid of being dealt with after leaving office, hence his resort to blackmail and diversionary tactics. “We are solidly behind Buhari’s government in his war against corruption. Nothing can derail our fight against corruption, because we are determined to deal with corruption squarely. So, this is just a noise to distract Buhari.” http://dailypost.ng/2017/04/18/seized-43million-fayose-corrupt-afraid-dealt-office-apc/

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday recalled that on April 14, 2014, Nigeria suffered one of the worst crimes committed against its citizens – the abduction of schoolgirls from Government Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State, by the vicious terrorist and insurgent group, Boko Haram. In his speech on the third anniversary of the incident, Buhari said upon the inception of his administration in May 2015, Boko Haram occupied no fewer than 14 Local Government Areas in the North East of the country and posed a serious threat to other parts by unleashing fear and mayhem through the use of surprise and suicide bombing. He said: “The menace of this terrorist group was a great challenge to the resolve of our administration to implement the Change Agenda. We, therefore, pledged to reverse the situation, which constituted a threat to the sovereignty of the country. ”We were determined to secure the release of the Chibok girls and others forcefully abducted from their homes and communities and retake the occupied territories. “Determined to secure the freedom of the abducted girls and recover lost territories, this administration gave the necessary political and logistical backing which energised gallant members of our armed forces and other security agencies to overrun the headquarters of Boko Haram in the Sambisa Forest and scatter the terrorists from their strong base. “Today, the group has been degraded and is no longer in a position to mount any serious, coordinated attack, other than sporadic suicide attacks on soft targets. Even at that, their reach is very much confined to a small segment of the North East where they had previously held sway unchecked. “Nigeria and indeed the entire world, must however, recognise that terrorism has no borders and remains a growing concern which calls for collective efforts to curtail. I, therefore, call on all Nigerians and residents in the country, to remain extra vigilant and report any suspicious element or group to the security agencies. We cannot afford to let down our guards. Under my watch, no group will hold the country to ransom. “On the Chibok girls, we have had reason to celebrate the return of twenty-four of them and thousands of other Nigerians who were forcibly abducted by the terrorists. “As a parent, I am eternally grateful to God that some of the girls were found alive and have been reunited with their families. Government is doing all within its powers to reintegrate the freed girls to normal life. Furthermore, Government is in constant touch through negotiations, through local intelligence to secure the release of the remaining girls and other abducted persons unharmed. “My special appreciation goes to the parents and families that have endured three years of agony and waiting for the return of their children. I feel what you feel. Your children are my children. On this solemn occasion, my appeal is that we must not lose hope on the return of our remaining schoolgirls. “Our intelligence and security forces, who have aptly demonstrated their competence, are very much equal to the task and absolutely committed to the efforts to find and return the schoolgirls and others abducted by Boko Haram. “I also thank Lake Chad Basin countries, friendly nations and international partners, who at various points in the last three years have offered their support for Nigeria. “Like I have repeatedly said, the Federal Government is willing to bend over backwards to secure the release of the remaining Chibok girls. We have reached out to their captors, through local and international intermediaries, and we are ever ready to do everything within our means to ensure the safe release of ALL the girls. “I wish to reassure the parents of the Chibok girls, all well-meaning Nigerians, organisations and the international community that as a government, we are unrelenting on the issue of the safe return of our children.” ”I trust God that soon, our collective efforts will be rewarded with the safe return of our schoolgirls to their families, friends and their communities.” Cc: lalasticlala, Mynd44, Seun http://dailypost.ng/2017/04/13/buhari-speaks-boko-haram-chibok-girls/
