President Muhammadu Buhari may speak by telephone to Nigerians for the first time since he embarked on a medical vacation to London, the Presidency has said. Buhari’s media adviser, Femi Adesina responded “Yes, he (Buhari) said maybe and I also say maybe” when asked on Monday night during a live political programme on Channels TV, which was monitored by DAILY POST. Adesina said that as the President’s spokesman, he could only transmit what was told to him. He reiterated that until President Buhari had an “all-clear” on his health, he will not return to the country. He further assured that President Trump will not undo all the positive agreements Nigeria had with the United States of America under Barack Obama stressing that the positive bilateral relationship between the two nations will continue. . Adesina said: “Yes, he (Buhari) said maybe, he will speak to Nigerians by phone, and I also say maybe. “That issue of his coming back is already in the public domain in the letter that was transmitted to the National Assembly. He said as soon as he has an ‘all-clear’ on his health, he’ll be back. I think that issue has been settled “I communicate what has been told to me. Unless I receive a definite communication that says the president will be back on this date. Then, I can say. Otherwise, I’ll just be making a guess, if I say anything that has not been said to me. Don’t forget that I’m a spokesman. I speak for somebody. I communicate what has been transmitted to me. “Remember Trump said America will be number one, America will be number two, and America will be number three. So anything that is in the interest of American that the previous government did. I’m sure this Trump administration will continue. “We know that governance is a continuum. I don’t think one government will come in and obliterate all the positive things that have been done by the previous administration as long as it is positive; and, in the interest of the country.” Cc: lalasticlala, Mynd44 http://dailypost.ng/2017/02/14/buhari-may-speak-nigerians-phone-presidency/

Kwuanu accused some individuals who he described as “disgruntled men” from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) whom he said were yet to recover from their loss of power at the federal level, as being behind the sustained campaign. ![]() |
The Northern Patriotic Assembly on Monday raised an alarm over what it described as plot by some powerful individuals in the two major political parties to undermine the presidency and stability of the nation. It said the forces were exploiting President Muhammadu Buhari’s health saga through propaganda, with the sole target of removing him from office. National President of the group, Hon Terrence Kwuanu, in a statement recalled that Buhari, in keeping with the constitution, wrote to the National Assembly that he was proceeding on a medical leave, adding that the President further communicated that he had to stay back upon the advice of his doctors. Kwuanu said since the first letter announcing President Buhari’s holiday, certain individuals had been trying to make him look incapable to continue in office and then edge him out. According to him, “there have been suggestions that the undue attention is meant to overwhelm President Buhari with stress so that his health controversy would be further compromised. “We reliably gathered that the inhumane rumours about the President’s health are calculated to cause a sense of uncertainty when he eventually returns to the country so that there would be apprehension about the veracity of any decision taken by him. “They want Nigerians to see him as someone whose body may not pull through the rigours of state functions. The plot in this instance is to trigger nationwide protests similar to the Yar’Adua era asking him to abdicate. “Fortunately, no human being is God to be able to correctly predict the outcome of schemes undertaken in pursuit of inordinate ambitions”. Kwuanu accused some individuals who he described as “disgruntled men” from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) whom he said were yet to recover from their loss of power at the federal level, as being behind the sustained campaign. He also identified those he accused of playing ethnic card within the APC of ploting against Buhari. Kwuanu added that “Participants at a meeting recently held in Ibadan for political realignment of south west blocs against the northern bloc in the All Progressives Congress (APC) cannot absolve themselves of being culpable in driving the mass hysteria over the health of Mr President”. http://dailypost.ng/2017/02/14/buhari-forces-apc-pdp-trying-remove-president-northern-group/

A lawyer to Williams Ajayi’s faction of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) in Ekiti State , Mr. Niran Owoseeni, on Wednesday withdrew from handling the case of the respondent over alleged defamatory statement written against the justice of the Appeal Court sitting in Ado Ekiti. Owoseeni said the letter, purportedly written by the Publicity Secretary of Ajayi’s faction, Dayo Owolabi, the executive that had been validated by the verdict of the Federal High Court sitting in Ado Ekiti, was a threat to his career and that he would never be a party to any attempt to rubbish the temple of justice. The Lawyer said this when the matter came up for hearing at the appeal court yesterday, which formed part of the explanations offered to justify why he failed to produce Owolabi in court despite the court’s directive. Presiding justice Olanrewaju Belgore , had on Monday ordered Owolabi to appear in court and explain the reason behind such a derogatory statement. The statement dated January 20, 2017, which was submitted at the office of the Appeal Court’s Registrar , accused the justices of bias over their failure to conduct the sitting of January 19, 2017, which centred on whether the judgement of January 24 at the Federal High Court should be held or suspended . The High Court’s judgement delivered by Justice Taiwo Taiwo basically centred on which faction is authentic between Ajayi and Barr. Gboyega Oguntuase-led groups . Owoseeni said: “I have decided to step aside because I can’t be part of any attempt to malign your lordships. I won’t conduct myself in a way that will put judiciary in discomfort. I urge your lordships to allow me to step aside for another lawyer to take up this matter. “But with all sense of responsibility, I delivered your message to them that you asked them to appear in court today. But I want to believe that the publicity the matter attracted must have scared them.”, he said. Owoseeni pleaded for adjournment of the case , pointing out that he was served with two counter affidavits by the appellant(Oguntuase) on Tuesday , which he needed time to respond to. Lawyer to the Appellant, Chief Mike Ozekhome(SAN) , who appealed to the justices to overlook the matter said: “the statement against your lordships was very scary, opprobrious and odious to say the least. “Judiciary is the third arm of government that gives nerves and valves to democracy. I have practiced law for 36 years and I feel sorry for this country about how your lordships are being insulted. Please, just take it easy with them”. Ozekhome, however, contended that it could have been better if the author of the letter had appeared to clear his name. He said the adjournment being sought by the respondent was needless, saying he would have to request for cost under this circumstance. The presiding justice Belgore, said “we are not trying him for writing against us or sending him to prisons, but it could have been better for him to come so that we can tell him the gravity of his offence”. Justice Belgore, in his brief ruling awarded N100,000 cost against the respondent to cover the cost of transportation for the appellant’s legal team. Justice Belgore also adjournment the case to March 20, 2017 . Cc: lalasticlala, Mynd44 http://dailypost.ng/2017/02/08/pdp-factional-crisis-lawyer-withdraws-anti-fayoses-excos-suit/
