The Court of Appeal in Abuja on Thursday sacked a member of the Rivers State House of Assembly representing Opobo/Nkoro Constituency, Mr. Andrew Miller of the All Progressives Congress, who was declared winner of the March 19, 2016 re-run in the state. In a unanimous judgment delivered by the Justice Ibrahim Saulawa-led panel, the appeal court nullified the Certificate of Return issued to Miller by the Independent National Electoral Commission. The panel ordered INEC to issue fresh one to the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate in the re-run, Mr. Diri Adonye. The appeal panel, which described the March 19, 2016 election as “massively rigged” in favour of the APC and Miller, made the consequential orders after setting aside the judgment of the Rivers State Election Petition Tribunal which earlier affirmed the election of the APC and its candidate. The PDP and its candidate had filed their petition before the tribunal contending that the APC’s candidate declared as the winner of the poll did not receive the highest lawful votes. The petitioners contended that the figures were inflated in favour of the APC and its candidate. But the tribunal in its judgment had dismissed the petition on the grounds that the petitioners failed to prove the alleged tampering with the authentic election results and who actually altered with the results. The PDP and Adonye further appealed to the Court of Appeal asking for an order setting aside the judgment of the tribunal. In the lead judgment read by Justice George Mbaba on Thursday, the Court of Appeal said the election was “massively rigged” with figures fraudulently altered across the 11 wards in the Opobo/Nkoro Constituency of the Rivers State House of Assembly. Justice Mbaba held that results of the election were altered with figures fraudulently inflated and allocated to the APC in the various wards. http://punchng.com/breaking-appeal-court-sacks-apc-rivers-assembly-member/

Politics › Shi’ites Protest At NASS, Demand El-zakzaky’s Release by DONSMITH123(op): 2:57pm On Dec 01, 2016 |
Dozens of protesting members of the Islamic Movement commonly referred to as Shi’ites on Thursday stormed the National Assembly demanding the release of their leader, Sheik Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.
The peaceful protesters who were carrying placards and several portraits of the detained leader converged at the main entrance of the National Assembly from different locations at about 12:00 noon.
Leader of the protesters, Abdullahi Musa in an interview with our correspondent said they were at the Assembly to demand the immediate release of their leader whom he said has been in illegal detention for months.
He said, “We are Nigerians, we are here to demand the release of our leader, Sheik Ibrahim El-Zakzaky who the government says is in protective custody.
“We don’t believe in their protective custody since he has not been found guilty of committing any crime, we demand his unconditional release.
“The National Assembly set up a committee which was given two weeks to investigate the Zaria masacre of our members it is more than one year now we have not heard anything.
“We demand justice for our over 1,000 members killed in Zaria by soldiers, among those killed were three biological children of our leader, they shot his wife, they shot him several times and kept him in detention without access to medical attention. We want him free.”
The protests came to an abrupt end when the Commissioner of Police, Mohammad Mustafa came to the scene.
He was accompanied by a water cannon truck and three pick up vans loaded carrying riot policemen who later took up strategic locations in from of the Assembly Complex.
A plain cloth security operative who did not identify himself appealed to the protesters to go and return another day because, “All the legislators are at a sitting and because they are not aware you were coming today, there is none of them who can come and address you.” http://punchng.com/shiites-protest-at-nass-demand-el-zakzakys-release/

Governor Ibrahim Gaidam of Yobe on Thursday directed a sleeping commissioner at the presentation of the 2017 budget to the State House of Assembly to go home for more sleep. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the governor had barely commenced reading the budget speech when the cabinet member started snoring.
Gaidam warned that any public officer henceforth caught sleeping stood sacked. “As from today, any commissioner or special adviser caught sleeping stands sacked and will immediately be replaced.
“We will borrow a leaf from the North Korea experience to make government affairs a serious business,” he said.Gaidam while reviewing the budget performance of the outgoing year paused and directed the sleeping commissioner to go home. “I am referring to the commissioner who is sleeping, you can go back home to sleep since you cannot endure the session,” he said.Although the governor did not mention the name of the sleeping commissioner, he pointed to the row of the commissioners to issue the directive. NAN reports that the bewildered commissioners looked at each other in embarrassment and sat up to avoid dozing and being victims of the governor’s sledge hammer. Alhaji Adamu Dala-Dogo, speaker of the assembly, however, advised public officers to take beverages that would keep them awake during public functions. Atlantian: Some day in the future, this man will be released and these entire sets of events will start all over again. The govt has refused to manage the situation but resorted to temporal incaration whether it is legal or not, can only be defined by the powers that be, they are the law. But truth is, when this spirals out of control, the lives that will be lost should be blamed by the leadership of this country that prefers not to tackle the root of skirmishes but to cut off the symptons leaving the nucleus to grow resistant of the threat.
The end will justice the means, but the end MUST certainly come, some day. we hear..till then |

Ade Adesomoju, AbujaA Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday dismissed the bail applications filed by leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, and three others with whom he is being prosecuted by the Federal Government for offences including treasonable felony and an act preparatory to act of terrorism.Justice Binta Nyako, ruling on the applications filed by the four defendants, held that they were not deserving as most of the charges preferred against were “ordinarily not bailable”. Justice John Tsoho, who was handling the case before Kanu accused him of bias, had also refused to grant bail to the accused persons. The case was transferred to Justice Nyako on the account of Kanu’s allegation and all the accused were re-arraigned before the judge on November 8. The lawyers to the four accused persons subsequently argued their clients’ bail application on November 17. Ruling on Thursday, Kustice Nyako held that she had no reason to “deviate” from the earlier “findings” of Justice Tsoho. Justice Nyako ruled on Thursday that though the case started de novo (afresh) before her, there were no new facts and circumstances that could warrant her to grant bail to the accused as the charges preferred against them were “serious offences”.She said as alternative to granting bail to the defendants, she prefer to order accelerated hearing of the case. Kanu’s co-accused who were denied bail on Thursday were the National Coordinator of IPOB member, Mr. Chidiebere Onwudiwe, Benjamin Madubugwu and David Nwawuisi. They were, in the 11 counts, including treasonable felony, accused of managing an unlawful society, publication of defamatory matter, illegal possession of firearms and improper importation of goods.Onwudiwe was specifically accused in one of the counts of an act preparatory to an act of terrorism. All the counts were in connection with the accused persons’ alleged broadcasts on Radio Biafra and agitation for the secession from Nigeria, states in the South-East and South-South zones and other communities in Kogi and Benue states to constitute a Republic of Biafra.
