The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has waved aside reports by Fani-Kayode’s media aide, Jude Ndukwe, that his principal, Chief Femi Fani- Kayode slumped yesterday at the agency’s premises. According to Fani-Kayode’s media aide, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP chieftain slumped at the EFCC premises on Monday. Reacting to the report, the EFCC through its spokesman, Wilson Uwajaren, dismissed the claim, saying there was no truth whatsoever to it. Uwajaren said in a brief statement, “There is no truth whatsoever in the dubious and attention-seeking alarm that Fani-Kayode slumped and was revived by EFCC medical personnel. “There was nothing like that as the said Fani-Kayode and Obanikoro sat together and enjoyed their jokes at the first round of checks of inmates in EFCC custody on Monday night.” Cc: lalasticlala http://dailypost.ng/2016/10/25/efcc-debunks-reports-fani-kayodes-slumped-custody/

Ovie Okpare, Warri Osissa community in the Ndokwa-East Local Government Area of Delta State are currently protesting and holding the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Festus Ovie Agas, and his convoy hostage over the alleged killing of three members of the community by suspected Fulani herdsmen. The protesters numbering over one thousand intercepted the convoy of the SSG who was traveling to Asaba after spending the weekend with his family in Ughelli at about 6:55am along the Ughelli-Asaba express on Monday. Sources told our correspondent that other travelers including those going to Onitsha market in Anambra State were also trapped in the protest. The PUNCH had reported that suspected herdsmen over the weekend repeatedly invaded the agrarian community injuring at least one person. Two members of the rampaging herdsmen who invaded the community with their cattle were nabbed by officers from the Ashaka Police Station. Our correspondent gathered on Monday morning that the situation took another turn Sunday evening when the herdsmen allegedly attacked again killing at least three persons in the community. The protesters who thronged the road blocking both lanes demanded that Fulani herdsmen vacate their land and the killers prosecuted. At about 8:30am on Monday, the protesters had not been dispersed despite heavy presence of security men including the military. A traveler, Akpodhoma Mikoko, who is also trapped in the situation, told our correspondent that about 800 vehicles were being held in the gridlock. Who is speaking the truth between the two- Amechi or Okoro. Okoro alleged Amechi denied. Then the matter should be handed over to God. The implication is that who is deceiving between the two will do another evil that will expose him and there will be no place to hide. |
The Rivers State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has given Justice Inyang Okoro of the Supreme Court seven days to retract his bribery allegation against Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, or be ready to go to jail for flouting the Corrupt Practices And Other Related Offences Act 2000. Justice Okoro, who is one of those under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for corruption, had alleged that Amaechi specifically visited him and asked that the governorship appeal case of Rivers State be delivered in APC’s favour. But Amaechi denied the allegation, saying the judge concocted the claim in order to politicise the issue of his arrest. However, the state chapter of the party wondered why Amaechi or anybody attempt to bribe Justice Okoro for an election upturned by both the Tribunal and the Appeal Court? The Chairman of the state Chapter of the party, Davis Ibiamu Ikanya, in a statement berated Justice Okoro over his allegation as contained in his letter to the National Judicial Council, NJC. According to Ikanya, “One does not need a soothsayer to see that Justice Okoro is very confused and thinks that by mentioning the name of Amaechi in his letter, he would deceive Nigerians and play down the gravity of his sins and crimes against Rivers State people and Nigeria as a whole. “If we may ask Justice Okoro, why should Amaechi or anybody attempt to bribe him for an election upturned by both the Tribunal and the Appeal Court? An election widely condemned by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the international community and both local and foreign observers who monitored the shambolic exercise in the course of which over 200 of our members were slaughtered like chicken just to install Chief Nyesom Wike of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in power at all cost?” The party further threatened to invoke the provisions of the Corrupt Practices And Other Related Offences Act 2000, which makes failure to report bribery or a bribery attempt a crime that attracts both a fine and a jail term. “For failing to report the fictional bribery attempt by Amaechi, Justice Okoro has committed an offence that attracts up to two years imprisonment. We are hereby giving him one week to retract his worthless and satanic letter and apologise to Amaechi or we may be forced to set in motion a machinery to invoke the Corrupt Practices And Other Related Offence Act 2000,” the party said. http://dailypost.ng/2016/10/20/withdraw-bribery-allegations-amaechi-go-jail-apc-warns-justice-okoro/

The deputy national publicity secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has claimed that John Oyegun, the national chairman of the party, is being controlled by some forces. Speaking on Wednesday, Frank said the APC was not in the position to support the anti-corruption crusade of the Muhammadu Buhari administration. According to him, the ruling party needed a chairman who could unify the party rather than one that would be controlled by people. “As far as I am concerned, he is not in control. He’s being controlled by some forces,” he said. “But we cannot continue to have a national chairman that is being controlled by people. We need a national chairman that can pull us together. We need a national chairman that can unify this party. “The party, as at today, is not united; there is an internal crisis disturbing us. I don’t think as a party we are in a better state to truly support the president in the fight against corruption”, he added. He wondered why he was not given the office of the national publicity secretary after Lai Mohammed was made the minister for information and culture. “I am meant to be acting publicity secretary of the party. Why is the party depriving me? “If you ask the party chairman, he would tell you that certain persons in the party do not want you to speak. Who are these certain persons?” He querried. Recently, Frank asked Oyegun to heed to the call by the national leader of the party, Bola Tinubu on him to resign. http://dailypost.ng/2016/10/20/oyegun-controlled-forces-timi-frank/

The 2015 All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship candidate in Akwa Ibom State, Umana Okon Umana, on Wednesday dismissed claim by one of the arrested judges, Justice John Okoro, saying he and the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi attempted to bribe him. Justice Okoro, one of the judges arrested by the Department of State Services, DSS, recently, had alleged that he was being victimized over his refusal to do the bidding of the APC in the election appeal cases as it concerned Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Abia States Reacting to Justice Okoro’s claim, Umana in a statement by his Media Adviser, Mr. Iboro Otongaran said the judge concocted the lies to save himself the embarrassment of been arrested with inexplicable huge cash in local and foreign currencies. Umana, now the Managing Director of Nigeria’s Oil and Gas Free Zone Authority, insisted that he has never held any meeting with Justice Okoro, a judge of the Supreme Court for the purpose of compromising him to. The full statement reads below: “The attention of Mr Umana Okon Umana, Akwa Ibom APC governorship candidate in the 2015 election has been drawn to a letter purportedly written by Justice Inyang Okoro and addressed to the Honourable Chief Justice of Nigeria. “In the said letter, Justice Okoro alleged without evidence that Umana visited his residence (Justice Okoro’s) and made a “request to help him win his appeal before the Supreme Court.” “We would like to respond to Justice Okoro’s baseless allegation as follows: “The meeting Justice Okoro is reporting is fiction. No such meeting to discuss how to bribe judges took place between him, Mr Umana Okon Umana and Dr (Pastor) Ebebe Ukpong as alleged. “If we assume, without conceding, that such a meeting took place, for a man of Justice Okoro’s standing and knowledge of the law, he ought to have known the legal implications of such a visit, and should have reported it to appropriate authorities immediately. He did not do that, but he is only reacting after the authorities have established a case against him. “Justice Okoro’s claim in his purported letter to the Hon. Chief Justice of Nigeria is therefore not only false, it is diversionary and an afterthought. “Justice Okoro should address himself to the facts of the case, which is between him and the State, and leave Umana out of it. “Contrary to Justice Okoro’s claim, Umana had no appeal before the Supreme Court arising from any court judgment on the 2015 governorship election in Akwa Ibom State. Umana had won at the Court of Appeal and therefore was not and couldn’t have been an appellant at the Supreme Court. Umana had won both at the tribunal and at the Court of Appeal. He was therefore confident of victory at the Supreme Court because of the concurrent judgments of the lower courts. “It would be recalled that after the Supreme Court judgment, which ignored the concurrent judgments of both the tribunal and the Court of Appeal, and also totally disregarded the reports of the international observers, including those of the United States Government and the European Union which stated that the elections in Akwa Ibom and Rivers states were marred by widespread violence and irregularities, Umana had issued a statement expressing disappointment at the verdict and said he had moved on and left everything in the hands of God. Umana should therefore be left alone.” http://dailypost.ng/2016/10/19/arrest-judges-didnt-try-bribe-justice-okoro-lied-apc-guber-candidate-umana/

The pan Igbo socio political group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo youth wing, has insisted that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, is trying to convict wife of the former President, Goodluck Jonathan, Patience Jonathan at all cost. Recall that the anti-graft agency had recently confirmed that Mrs Jonathan is being investigated for money laundering, but no case has been instituted against her in any court yet. The Commission took a step further in its ongoing investigations by freezing her personal account in Skye Bank Plc, titled ‘Patience Ibifaka Jonathan.’ In her defence, Mrs Jonathan claimed the money was meant for her medical treatment abroad, and asked EFCC to defreeze the account or face legal action. But, Ohanaeze’s National President, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, in a statement criticised the commission for subjecting its suspects to media trial without thorough investigations. According to Isiguzoro, “The EFCC is simply persecuting ex first lady, Dame Patience Jonathan. She has already been found guilty without trial in a court of competent jurisdiction. This is unhealthy for our democracy. EFCC is clearly running a campaign of calumny intended to convict Dame Patience Jonathan at all cost. The former first lady is yet to be tried in court, yet the EFCC has been treating her as a criminal. This strategy of trial in the media must stop. “To fight corruption, the process must be thorough and not selective. EFCC is not a court and must submit to the laws of the land. The haste to rush to the media to vilify suspects is responsible for the low number of convictions recorded by the EFCC. “If we may ask, where are the wives of former first ladies including past Nigerian leaders who were at various times accused of corruption? Why can’t they be investigated? We can only take EFCC serious as anti graft agency when it investigates the likes of ex-Presidents, Ibrahim Babangida, Abdulsalami Abubakar, Olusegun Obasanjo, including late ones.” http://dailypost.ng/2016/10/19/efcc-bent-convicting-patience-jonathan-cost-ohaneze-ndigbo/

A former Minister of Aviation, Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode, has asked the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Federal Government to leave his family alone and face him. Fani-Kayode said this in reaction to the detention of his wife, Precious, at a bank in Ado Ekiti for hours on the instruction of the EFCC. Fani-Kayode, who is a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, condemned the move in a telephone interview with one of our correspondents. He said, “This government is sick and cowardly and so is the EFCC. If you have a problem with me, face me and leave my family alone. “My wife travelled to Ado Ekiti to see my friend and brother, Governor Fayose, and his family. They were on their way out of town when they went to Access Bank in Ado Ekiti to get some money. “They were illegally detained, brutalised and put under arrest on the orders of the EFCC at a bank in Ado Ekiti today. “She has never had any business with me; she has never been formally invited by the EFCC or asked any questions about her transactions and neither has it written to her on any issue even though it is always sending letters to my house and sending people there. “If Buhari wants to deal with me, why doesn’t he face me like a man instead of trying to harm and hurt my eight-month-old son and wife. “Had it not been for the intervention of Governor Ayo Fayose, they would have taken them away and subjected them to all manner of harm and indignity simply because she is married to me. “This is Buhari’s Nigeria and we will resist his wickedness and tyranny.” Fani-Kayode said he intended to sue the bank and the EFCC for this “illegal and wicked action.” He added, “They have no right to do this. If they want to see my wife, all they need to do is to invite her. We have nothing to fear. They do not need to be so primitive and barbaric to people. “In an attempt to starve and harass me and my family, all my accounts and wife’s accounts have been frozen. “Now, they are resorting to arresting people’s wives and children for no just cause.” Mrs. Fani-Kayode, who was a guest of Governor Ayodele Fayose, had gone to a branch of Access Bank in Ado Ekiti around 3pm for a transaction, but was detained by officials of the bank. The bank officials told her she was being held on the instructions of the EFCC. The EFCC, however, denied detaining her. In a statement by its spokesman, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, on Monday night, the anti-graft agency said the ex-minister’s wife attempted to withdraw money from an account which the agency had frozen. The statement read in part, “Contrary to the spin about the purported arrest of mother and child, a certain Chikwendu Sonia today attempted to withdraw money from an Access Bank account that had been placed on ‘Post No Debit’ Category, following the discovery of illicit cash flows into the account. “She was intercepted by the bank while the commission was notified, but because it was late, the EFCC advised that the suspect be taken to the police station for processing and release on bail. “They were arranging to take the suspect to the police station when Governor Ayo Fayose stormed the bank with thugs and his personal security and forcefully secured the release of the suspect, with claims that the EFCC had no power to detain anybody in his state. He also vowed to close down the branch of the bank. “The said account, which had a balance of N2,307,712.82, was flagged following investigation into the PDP Joint Trust Fund when the commission traced N1.1bn to the Zenith Bank account of Fani-Kayode. “It was discovered that the account had two biometric identification numbers, one for Fani-Kayode and the other (with BVN 2205597283) for Sonia Chikwendu. The same BVN is linked to two other accounts in Diamond Bank and 15 accounts in Guaranty Trust Bank.” Cc: lalasticlala http://punchng.com/leave-my-family-alone-fani-kayode-tells-efcc/

Dr. Olugbumi Usim-Wilson has filed an application to withdraw as a surety to Olisa Metuh, a former Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, spokesman, in the latter’s ongoing trial for alleged money laundering. Usin-Wilson at the resumed trial of Metuh at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday tendered his application before Justice Okon Abang. He prayed the court to remove her name from the list of people standing as sureties to Metuh. But Metuh, in a swift reaction, filed an application, praying the court to allow him replace Usim-Wilson with the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu. Counsel to Usim-Wilson, Clement Chinaka, urged the court to hear the application for withdrawal first and not the one for replacement. Metuh’ Counsel, Onyechi Ikpeazu (SAN), observed that if the application for withdrawal was taken before that of replacement, his client might risk going back to prisons. Ikpeazu, therefore, urged the court to use its discretion in the matter. Abang ruled that the court would take the application of Metuh first since he had been consistent in his trial. The judge thereafter adjourned the case till October 27 for hearing of both applications. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, had filed a seven-count charge of criminal breach of trust, corruption and money laundering against Metuh. EFCC said he received N400 million from the former National Security Adviser, retired Colonel Sambo Dasuki, believed to be part of a $2.1 billion meant for arms procurement allegedly diverted by the last administration.
