Hello @USMissionNGRA,

I applied for a B1/B2 visa via dropbox on the 3rd of April. We have sent an email regarding an update on the application but there has been no response.

Not even a generic response. I've also sent a request for Passport return via the email address LagosDropBoxReturn@state.gov but also have no response.

I need to urgently travel next month and I need a way to get my passport back from the embassy. Please could you advise on the best way to make this happen?

Thanks

hi @ peaceful2016,i am trying to apply for visa for my mum to go with me to canada in june,i have pr status but i dont live in canada yet and i would like to know what type of visa you applied for your mum(family visitor or tourist),how you did the accommodation part of it(if you had to book hotel or not) and if you had to make flight reservations.
Thank you

Peaceful2016:
I submitted a tourist visa application for my parents and it got approved in about 1 week. I think it's probably due to their extensive travel history. See timeline below:

Submitted January 6
Biometrics request January 7
Biometrics done January 9
Passport request January 14

I stated I was paying for travel tickets. I have PR status but I'm still in Naija presently so I used my Nigerian account statement and stated I'll be in Canada at the time of their trip. Then I kept their budget low at 2000 CAD for both of them so it didn't seem like they wanted to use all the funds in their account for the trip.

Pls mamas, when going back to Nigeria, how do you package the extra things you get... Do u ship as cargo or do the extra luggage. I really need answers Cos I need to buy formulae n other baby things.so looking for advice.
Pls help a mama in need.....

Depends on how much stuff you're bringing.
Compare the costs of paying for extra luggage on your flight with the freight costs for both air and sea.

We used both. Air freight for stuff we needed immediately, sea cargo for stuff we wouldn't need until much later (larger sized diapers and wipes) and also we carried a lot of stuff with us when coming back.

You should also consider if you can get the items in Nigeria. It may be cheaper for you to buy the items in Nigeria when you factor in all the costs of shipping and clearing.

Hope this helps you make your decision

Be advising people not to worry about Chicago POE you hear?! Me that I am a man and have pot belly, they drilled the living day out of me and kept me for almost 4 hours.. Maybe they later discovered that I am a man and the belle na just pot belly and let me go. Never using that POE for anything.
Houston poe that worships Chicago every morning for its wickedness..
Goodluck o

I don't think it's good to use your story and a few others to generalize. Yeah Chicago is strict. Same Chicago that people travel through smoothly. For every one bad story there's probably another 50 good ones. People get turned back at Houston, Atlanta and someone here even had a bad story about New York. I know people that have gone there to birth and met very friendly officers.

Your belle is story for another day..

Hello everyone. I'm new here and I have a question. I have a USA visa, been there once, that was last year and I work in a bank. I'm pregnant now and not married yet. I intend to travel to the USA wen I'm 23 weeks and return wen I'm 26weeks as I do not intend to give birth there. My agent got me a ticket that lands me at Chicago POE. Do I have anything to worry about?

Thanks

You shouldn't have a problem. Just be truthful and have your return ticket handy..

Very true.. My wife stayed with her family for nearly 4 months... her family were so nice.. They even gave us their car to use plus gas money sometimes sef. They bought so many gifts for our baby and gave her plenty money.. before we left we opened an account for her with nearly $2k in there.

Some people naturally just have bad attitudes.

Hello house,
I also confirmed the reviewed price, however if Dr E is your doc and Laurie has given you the old price that is what you will still pay upon arrival.
Also i wld like to make some clarifications.
1.Do i have to wait for my child's SSN b4 applying for d child's passport?
2.if i decide to apply for a nigerian passport instead of Visa hw long will it take to get it. (I initend doing the processing myself)

Awaiting your responses.
Thnk you

1. You do not need the SSN for the passport. Just enter five zeros in the form

2. I did my LO's passport at the embassy in New York. Entered at 11am, got her passport by 3pm.

Thanks a lot for your quick reply...I highly appreciate it but please indulge me a bit further...

Are these the entire costs incurred? As in for the doctor, anesthesiologist, et al? Secondly are these discounted prices for self pay or the initial prices quoted to you?

Yes those are the entire costs. The hospital provides the doctor and it's included in the package. So you go to the hospital to see your doctor. It may not be the same doctor all the time but they all have your records that they can refer to.

Anesthesiologist rate is included in the cost of the epidural.

Except the hospital requires further tests, all you have to pay is what i've listed. We had to do two non stress tests as the doctors were a bit concerned with the baby's health. That cost us an additional $500.

The prices are the discounted self pay customers.

The pediatrician's visit post delivery costs $95 per visit and you'll probably need about 2 or 3 depending on how long post delivery you're staying in the US. If you want your baby vaccinated, it's covered in that cost.

Hope this helps

Hi all.. In the spirit of giving back
My Mrs had our LO a couple of weeks ago at MMC in New York.

We thank God for a very very smooth delivery process. The hospital stay was awesome.

We were able to get all her documents sorted out very quickly too.
BC came in the mail 6 days after delivery, Social Security card came 2 days after the BC.
Documentation was very quick too. Went to US passport agency in the Morning finished at 10am, Headed to the Nigerian embassy.. got there just before 11 and we got her passport by 3pm (process is quite straight forward once money order is paid and online form is filled properly)

I'm back to Naija now and eagerly awaiting their arrival..

Goodluck to all the soon to be parents out there...

Chei chei, i don suffer, so i woke up to 3 emails from bank of america for unusual transactions, saying i should check my online banking and call a number to confirm if it was my transaction or not. Na so i open my ebanking o. 20 whole transactions- from newyork, to florida, to maryland, to states i have not even thought of going. Na wa o.
Almost $1700... called the number and listed the 20 transactions to them, they r working on it. Acc blocked for now.
Mamas lets be careful o, i have been buying alot online though. Was stil about to buy enough similac n diapers yesterday, but procastinated, at the end of the day, them scammers spent it... they said they will try their best to return the money sha. Fingers crossed.
@chicagobound This Nics pple shud be careful o

This is why many Americans don't use debit cards... Credit cards usually have better user protection for incidents like this.

Thankfully the transactions haven't gone through.. If it did, the bank can't protect you and you lose all your money...

Just be careful where you use your cards. It applies to swiping POS machines as well...

I don't think you need to have an account. Just go with your debit card and they'll use a POS to debit your account but they might charge you extra commission in addition to the PTA commission

Pls who has used Mercy Medical Centre in new York.?
How is their package, and procedures?
Which accommodation is close by/ affordable?

Same goes for UMMC, Batavia.
Who has used any of these two, in New York?

My madam is currently in new york using MMC

Their package for VD with epidural is $8.1k, without epidural $1k less. Package for CS is $10.2k. It's all inclusive of tests hospital and doctor. I dont think it includes the pediatrician.

Please, can anyone help with cheap and affordable hospital in Atlanta. I intend travelling by Jan ending and has been given Visa, bt it's nt been easy getting an affordable doctor within d range of 2-2.5$. Please experience Atlanta mums, kindly help a first timer. I was advised to book an appointment with a doctor b4 travelling by the V/O that interviewed me at d embassy.

Do you mean doctor fee only or is your 2.5k for doctor and hospital?

If it's for both, that's a long shot!!

Try to do a search from the parts 1 and 2 of the thread you'll find hospitals that others have used..

I don't get, will the credit card be gotten From Naija or the US? If Naija, most credit cards in Naija have a 90 days clean up cycle and it's a loan so you have to fulfil all the conditions for a loan. Also the one third income rule will apply, say if your salary is 90k your loan repayment (for all your loans oh) should not be more than 30k. Please educate us further. So say you take if your take home is 100k I think the most you can take is say $150 and the card must swing into credit after 90days and you will also pay interest on the amount utilized. I never use credit card, please peeps wey don use can you further educate us too.

For credit cards, there's a minimum monthly repayment sp you don't have to pay the full amount spent on the cards. For diamond bank which I use, you have 45 days interest free which means that if you pay up what you've spent, within the period, you don't pay interest.

@nefertitiram was referring to a cash backed credit card where you give the bank your money and your credit limit is linked to how much you have. This protects the bank incase you default.

If you don't want one that's cash backed, your bank would look at your income and determine what they're comfortable with based on your income and credit worthiness. Also remember that if you've defaulted on a loan before you're unlikely to be successful with a credit card application. I believe there's a credit bearu in Nigeria where credit worthiness is verified by the banks.

Travelex won't sell to you until you've checked in at the airport but there are no guarantees that they'll have dollars.
I was there yesterday and they didn't have.

If you're a risk taker, you can try it.

In the spirit of 'giving back' to the thread...

My wife arrived NY today. She left Lagos yesterday and arrived NY this morning. She probably had the shortest and smoothest POE interview ever.

CPB: How long are you here for..
Mrs: 3 months
CPB: Who would you be staying with?
Mrs: Family.
CPB: Enjoy your stay..

She was stamped in for 6 months... We were very prepared for secondary inspection and further interrogation with a large stack of documents but they didn't ask for the purpose of her visit not to talk of documentation...... A favored woman she is...

Now waiting for the first hospital appointment.. smiley
