Nigerian woman made history by becoming the first Immigrant and Black to win council seat in Bangor, US A Nigerian immigrant and legal professional, Angela Okafor made history on Tuesday, November 5, when she turned the first black to win a councillor seat for Bangor Metropolis Council in Maine, United States of America. Okafor and the others elected were sworn in during a ceremony at Bangor City Hall on Wednesday, Novembr 13. Okafor, from Enugwu-Ukwu in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State, became a United States Citizen earlier this year. Angela and her husband, Ben, who owns two pharmacies, live in Bangor with their three kids. As a foreign trained and American licensed attorney, she worked in the dish room washing department because she did not get a fair opportunity. Currently, Angela owns a law practice, an international market, and a hair care business. She served on the Board of the Maine Multicultural Center, and guest lectured at Eastern Maine Community College. She works with students and business bodies and started an affinity group. She is an occasional columnist at Amjambo Africa. She is a public and inspirational speaker. Angela won the Trailblazer award from Empower the Immigrant Woman. Months after becoming an American citizen, Angela became the first immigrant and first person of color to serve on the Bangor City Council. "It doesn’t matter where you come from and it doesn’t matter the challenges you face. It’s about how you use the challenges. If it’s a challenge you can use it to push yourself harder. The challenge made me work harder. I’m grateful that I got this." said Okafor. Sarah Nichols, City Council Chair, said, "City government, all levels of government are open to all. It’s not for the few. I think it’s really important in terms of showcasing what this community is made of." Taking to her Facebook page, Angela Okafor shared her excitement over making history "I am still literally unbelievably shaken by what we did tonight! I had tried calling my dad in Nigeria to inform him that his little girl who was not sure of going to college let alone studying Law has just made history in the greatest Country in the planet earth!!! Thank you for every advice, time, financial support, good wishes, prayers, childcare, and especially to those who told me I could not!!! Your doubt of me pushed me to defy those odds!! Thank you for being God's unwilling tool to get me working harder!!! To every little child there, what you have control over is where your power is. I started as the underdog but by reaching out, asking questions, listening, asking again, I got you all on my side!!! I personally knocked on more than 1,000 doors, spoke to uncountable more on the streets, at the stores, at kids games, practices and activities. You had me drop off my cards on trash cans so I can stay away from your dogs that I am petrified of ( you do not want to see me around a dog). It is not who you were born as but what you make of who you are!!! Thank you! Thank you!! Thank you!!!! I cant even coordinate my thoughts . Thank you to everyone who stuck out their neck for me! But now the real hard work begins!!! I will be needing your help more now! I do not know my left from my right but will be counting on your ideas and advices and holding me accountable respectfully and with love!!! Please do not put a bag of salt on my head and become a rain maker after me!!! We did the hard part! Now let's roll up our sleeves and get to work on the real things!!! https://www.lindaikejisblog.com/2019/11/photos-from-the-swearing-in-ceremony-of-nigerian-woman-angela-okafor-who-made-history-by-becoming-the-first-immigrant-and-black-to-win-council-seat-in-bangor-us.html

Brad Pitt is known for being one of the biggest Hollywood stars alive today, and for many years, he was also an atheist. However, recent struggles of his that include addiction and a painful divorce from Angelina Jolie have led to him finding God. For years, Pitt pushed all questions of faith aside in favor of life’s many worldly distractions. It was only during his divorce from Jolie that he started to change and value the real blessings of life, including his children. “I gotta be more — I gotta be more for them,” Brad said amidst his divorce. “I have to show them. And I haven’t been great at it.” Pitt remembers sleeping on a friend’s floor for weeks following his divorce because he was simply “too sad” to stay in the family’s home all alone. These kinds of struggles are what softened his heart and allowed him to find God. Pitt did not have a good experience with faith growing up, and though he was raised in a Christian home, he says it was more of a “cleaner, stricter” version of Christianity. Back then, he saw faith as a list of rules rather than a personal relationship with Christ. “I never understood growing up with Christianity-don’t do this, don’t do that-it’s all about don’ts,” he explained. Once he grew up, Pitt ditched Christianity altogether. “I completely left it [Christianity] and I called myself agnostic,” he said. “Tried a few spiritual things but didn’t feel right.” Though he was soon calling himself an atheist, Pitt said this was more about conforming to the standards of the world versus truly denying God in his heart. “Then I called myself an atheist for a while, just kind of being rebellious. I wasn’t really,” he said. “But I kinda labeled myself that for a while. It felt punk rock enough.” Former Atheist Brad Pitt Becomes A Christian As He Recovers From Alcoholism WRITTEN BY MARK BAKER 2 WEEKS AGO Share Tweet Share Flip It ADVERTISEMENT Brad Pitt is known for being one of the biggest Hollywood stars alive today, and for many years, he was also an atheist. Cristiano Ronaldo Finds Lady who Fed him Burgers when he Begged for Food Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the greatest Football star world has ever seen yet his humility and generosity is unmatched. After the story of Albert Fantrau, now Ronald seeks the lady who fed him when he was poor. A Portuguese woman has responded to a recent interview from Cristiano Ronaldo, revealing herself to be one of the McDonald’s employees who regularly donated food to the football hero while he was a poor youngster in Portugal. Ronaldo appeared on ITV in the UK to chat with Morgan in an extended, revealing interview, and explained how he used to wait for the end of the day to see if there was any spare food leftover from a McDonald’s shift. “We were a little hungry. We have a McDonald’s next to the stadium, we knocked on the door and asked if they had any burgers,” explained the Juventus star. Read More: From hatred of Muslims to converting to Islam; How Mo Salah influenced a football fan “There was always Edna and two other girls. I never found them again. I asked people in Portugal, they closed the McDonalds, but if this interview can help find them, I would be so happy. “I want to invite them to Turin or Lisbon to come have dinner with me because I want to give something back.” Following the interview, Paula Leca came forward and revealed in an interview with Portuguese radio station Renascenca that she was one of the women referenced in Ronaldo’s interview, and recalled the tale from her own perspective. “They would appear in front of the restaurant and when there were hamburgers left over our manager would give us permission to hand them over,” explained Leca. “One of the boys was Cristiano Ronaldo who was perhaps the most timid of them all. This happened almost every night each week”. “I still laugh about it all now. I had already told my son about it but he thought it was a fib because he couldn’t imagine his mum ever giving Cristiano Ronaldo a hamburger. Read more: Cristiano Ronaldo may lose billion dollars deals after rape allegations “My husband already knew about it, because sometimes he would go to pick me up from work at night and he also saw him. “It’s funny to go back now to something that happened so long ago. It shows his humility. At least now people know this wasn’t an invention. “If he invited me out for dinner, I’d go for sure. The first thing I’d do would be to say thank you and during the meal, we would have time to remember those times.” A return meeting would give Ronaldo a chance to return the favor to Leca and the other women who once served him as a hungry youngster in Portugal. And it’s a fair bet that when they eventually sit down for a meal, he’ll feed them something more substantial than a Big Mac and fries. We all remember the fairy tale of Albert Fantrau, Ronaldo’s friend and fellow football star who sacrificed his career to see Ronaldo play and later when asked how you manage this lavish lifestyle, the answer came with a smile and just one word, ‘Ronaldo‘. https://www.globalvillagespace.com/cristiano-ronaldo-finds-lady-who-fed-him-burgers-when-he-begged-for-food/?fbclid=IwAR3rtzXWJ1N4e3qXKpHEbLUUOhP_DP71SEYSjUBbhc-yqCoyWWdQKGqnFjA

https://www.washingtonpost.com/education/2019/06/04/fort-worth-teacher-georgia-clark-asked-trump-tweets-round-up-illegal-students/#click=https:///O3RIKYgQo9 Georgia Clark, a teacher from Texas, has officially been fired after tweeting President Trump and asking him to “remove the illegals” from the Fort Worth high school where she taught. Georgia Clark, a veteran high school English teacher in Fort Worth, had an urgent request for President Trump: She needed help pulling undocumented immigrants from her school. “Mr. President, Fort Worth Independent School District is loaded with illegal students from Mexico,” Clark wrote May 17 on her now-deleted Twitter account, @Rebecca1939, in tweets that led to her termination. “Anything you can do to remove the illegals from Fort Worth would be greatly appreciated,” she wrote in another tweet. Clark was careful in her approach, she believed, and told the president she needed guarantees her identity would be protected when action was taken. “Texas will not protect whistle blowers. The Mexicans refuse to honor our flag,” she wrote. Clark says she didn’t mean for everyone to see her thoughts and requests on immigration. She says she believed the tweets were private between her and the president. “Ms. Clark stated she did not realize the tweets were public,” the Fort Worth Independent School District said in a review, a copy of which was obtained by The Washington Post. Clark acknowledged that the tweets were hers, the review said. The very public messages have now embroiled her school district in scandal — and less than three weeks after she authored them, they got her fired. But Clark “intends to request a hearing for the purpose of contesting the proposed action against her contract,” her attorney Brandon Brim said Wednesday. At a Tuesday meeting, eight school board members voted unanimously to terminate Clark’s contract after more than a dozen people spoke out against her during public comments. No one spoke in her defense. "Her comments were hurtful, irresponsible, misleading and distrustful to the students she is supposed to protect and educate,” one woman told the board. Speaking after the decision, District Superintendent Kent P. Scribner said Clark’s conduct “warranted our recommendation for termination.” The inquiry substantiated “inappropriate behavior” in violation of district regulations. Clark was placed on administrative leave with pay on May 29, two days before the last day of school, district spokesman Clint Bond said. Clark’s tweets angered parents and others, prompting a response from Scribner. “Let me reiterate our commitment that every child in the District is welcome and is to be treated with dignity and respect,” Scribner wrote May 29 on Facebook. The response was so strong that the district, in a later post, urged parents and guardians to refrain from harsh language. “I’m very surprised and concerned that this cruel woman has been berating our precious children for years,” a woman wrote in response to Scribner. “Where was FWISD ” she asked, referring to the Fort Worth Independent School District. The Supreme Court ruled in Plyler v. Doe that public schools are required to provide schooling for children regardless of their immigration status. Schools cannot ask students about their immigration status or report them or family members to federal immigration authorities. Clark, an English teacher at Carter-Riverside High School, has worked with the district since 1998, the review said, and has a history of violations — including insulting her students’ ethnicity. Even before the tweets came to light, the district was already investigating separate allegations of derogatory remarks by Clark in the classroom. Last month, when one student asked to go to the bathroom, Clark told the student to “show me your papers that are saying you are legal,” a student told investigators in an account corroborated by another student. She denied to investigators that she made the comment, which the report claims occurred May 17 — the same day Clark tweeted at Trump multiple times about what she perceived as illegal immigration in Fort Worth and in the school district. Fort Worth’s population is about a third Hispanic, according to city data. In 2007, Clark kicked a student, the review said, though an investigation determined it was “without malice.” In 2013, she was disciplined for referring to a group of students as “little Mexico” and called another student “white bread.” Those allegations proved to be true, according to the review. Julio Argueta, a graduate of a Fort Worth high school and student at nearby Texas Christian University, told the board he was an immigrant student and said Clark’s behavior could have severe and lasting impacts.
