I got married at 23. I don't understand why people just hype marriage. True, it's sensitive but this hype is just too much.

The money most people spend to maintain one yeye girlfriend is enough to live a happy life with your wife. The happiness and tranquility that marriage adds to your life is immeasurable.

Some people say they haven't found "the right person". You can't find the right person because you don't even have a definition of who is right for you. What's my own sef? Even at 40 some people are yet to have clearly defined goals and objectives for their life.

I don't need more than 1 week discussion and investigation with a woman to see if she fits my plan in life or not. I look for just four things; physical, IQ, religious inclination and plans for her future.

For physical, I don't have much requirement but I know I have a distaste for skinny women. Skinny I said not slim.

For IQ, the way she answers and asks question will tell you how brilliant she is (not). The main reason why I look at IQ is for my children.

For religion, i have one ultimate question. Don't ask me, I won't give you expo.

For objectives in life. I don't want a woman that wishes to do office job or government job. The promiscuity and temptations in those places is just too much. I want a woman that has entrepreneural skills and wishes to start something for herself even if it's little.

You got married at 23 but your post suggests that your views about life has not grown since then. You are oblivious to other people's challenges and you have not explored the depths of marriage hence the list of parameters you have listed. The fact that you cannot emphatise with those still grappling with marriage issues shows that you do not understand the highs and lows of marriage. There are lots of people who are not inhibited by the fears you are expressing about the career choices of a wife. It would not be fair to you for them to belittle your views on it. Enjoy your progress, seek to understand the challenges of others in that area or let them be.

Quite unfortunate that there are a lot of people pouring out their bitterness on nairaland. Your reality is not another person's reality. That you have been swindled doesn't mean that everyone is a crook.

INSECURITY: We won’t attend meeting with Miyetti Allah- Southern, Middle Belt leaders tell Abubakar




LAGOS—THE Southern and Middle Belt Leaders Forum, SMBLF, yesterday, declined an invitation by former Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar (retd) on a roundtable on national issues and security scheduled to hold in Minna, Niger State.“

The leaders declined the invitation over the inclusion of Miyetti Allah to the roundtable describing it as “a grave insult” to them.“This was contained in a letter titled: Re: Roundtable on National Issues and Security and signed by Chief E.K Clark (PANDEF leader), Chief Ayo Adebanjo (Afenifere leader), Chief John Nwodo (President, Ohanaeze) and Dr. Pogu Bitrus (President, Middle Belt Forum).

The statement reads: “We individually received your invitation to the above event holding in Minna between 29 and 30 July 2019. We thank you for your interest in the affairs of our country which made us accept your invitation in good faith.

“It was in the thick of our preparations for the journey that fuller details of the roundtable came to our attention, some aspect of which has necessitated this last-minute communication with you.“

“We observed that the roundtable will have in attendance all the National Security Heads, Chief of Defence Staff and notable Nigerians, underscoring the high level of the consultations.

“We, however, noticed further that in your category of Socio-cultural organisations invited, you listed the following: PANDEF, Afenifere, Ohanaeze, Middle Belt Forum, Arewa Consultative Forum, Northern Leaders Forum, and Northern Elders Forum.

We were comfortable up to that point until we saw the following: Gan Allah Fulani Development Association, and Miyetti Allah. “While we do not know the members of the first group, the lumping of Miyetti Allah, a trade association for cattle herders and whose members have been accused of various violations of rights, including life, across the country sends a worrying signal to us.

“It falls into the categorisation of our respected socio-cultural platforms with Miyetti Allah by Presidential Spokesman, Garba Shehu. “We consider the above a grave insult on our bodies and our coming to a roundtable with the group would mean acquiescence to the narrative that put us in the same bracket with those wielding illegal AK-47 all over the country and inflicting terror on fellow citizens.

“Even if the above was not the case with Miyetti Allah, bringing a trade group like them in the same vehicle with the nationalities organisations would not have been appropriate as there are organisations of their category for fishermen, farmers, spare parts dealers, and poultry owners among others across Nigeria who are not invited.

Towards this end, we decline participation in the roundtable as scheduled without prejudice to your peace-building effort which is appreciated. “We regret any inconvenience our decision may cause you as we know the efforts that go into putting events such as this together.

“Rest assured of our cooperation in all efforts and dialogues to make Nigeria peaceful, secure and forward-moving provided they are organised in a way that does not subtract from our dignity and value. Once again, we appreciate all your efforts.

In news that will surely come as a shock to James Bond fans and the film industry at large, it was revealed today that longtime 007 Daniel Craig will pass the Walther PPK to black British actress Lashana Lynch in the iconic role.

For years there has been intense speculation about who would take over the reins of one of the most durable and profitable film franchises in history once Craig stepped aside. Much of that speculation has revolved around whether the series might make a nod toward diversity and cast a person of color or a woman for the first time.

But if the report from UK tabloid the Daily Mail is to be believed, the 007 producers are going for a radical twofer: casting a 31-year-old black female newcomer as Bond’s heir apparent.

According to the report, the upcoming, yet-to-be-titled 25th Bond film will reveal Lynch as the new 007 with Craig’s character coming out of retirement for one last mission.

This development will almost certainly divide diehard Bond fans who are notoriously protective about the series, which has spanned six decades and featured six white male actors in the black tux.

I think you have made a fair confession. John Wick does not appeal to you. The same applies to the other fellow. What tickles our fancy is different for each person. It is the reason people need to be aware that you cannot trust the rating of others in all occasions on movies because they may be viewing the movie from a flawed lens of disinterest on the plot, genre or characters involved in the movie.

Listen to Obasanjo, others, Fulani leaders urge Buhari

Amid raging insecurity across the country, Fulani leaders have urged President Muhammadu Buhari to, as a matter of urgency, listen to the advice of former President Olusegun Obasanjo on how to restore peace and stability.They spoke under the aegis of the Gan Allah Fulani Development Association of Nigeria (GAFDAN). Their national chairman, Alhaji Sale Bayari, who spoke with newsmen in Jos, Plateau State yesterday said the Buhari administration ought to listen to other eminent Nigerians in solving the nation’s problems, noting that things were not in order in the country.

Bayari said considering the tribal, ethnic, religious and sectional agitations from the south, east, north and west, things must be done urgently to address crucial issues and avert a national crisis . According to him, there is no part of the country where agitations are not currently going on.

The GAFDAN chairman stressed that the crises raging in the northern states like Zamfara, Kaduna, Niger, Sokoto, Taraba, Benue and Nassarawa as well as the agitations in the Niger-Delta by militants, Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in the south east and Afenifere in the south west constitute a major threat to the survival of the nation.

“In moving the nation forward, the government must listen to some elder statesmen, irrespective of what their political views or affiliation is. Obasanjo is one of them. I have found out that if any government in Africa is to tap one-third of what is in the brain of Obasanjo and use it, Africa will be better.

“Similarly, West Africa and Nigeria will be better for it. Obasanjo knows our problem. And then whenever he talks and explodes sometimes, I have found out that it is because he has made efforts to be listened to without success. He will then feel that posterity will judge him harshly if he does not come out to tell Nigerians and the world the truth of things.

“Undoubtedly, Obasanjo is an embodiment of knowledge, experience and he knows very well the problem of our country, Nigeria. There is nobody, dead or alive, today that thinks the way Obasanjo does or knows what Obasanjo knows. He knows Nigeria, Africa and the entire world like the back of his hand. That is why I am advising this government to tap the brains of people like Obasanjo. He is a person that can lead the government into looking critically at the problem bedeviling the nation and finding a way forward.”

According to the GAGDAN boss, the government should also listen to other statesmen like Yakubu Gowon, Ango Abdullahi, Sultan of Sokoto, Oni of Ife and Obi of Onitsha. “These people have this nation at heart and would not want it to disintegrate. If they put their machinery in place, I bet you that peace and progress will be achieved. But unfortunately, nobody is mobilising them or seeking their input in solving the national crises. These people know what to do or the right people to call, among other things in solving the problems.”

GAFDAN feared that if the crises across the country were allowed to degenerate, the government would not be able to tackle them.“If the nation has been unable to tackle Boko Haram since 2009, then it is a greater danger if crises burst out in other states or regions in the nation.

“Recently, the Secretary of the Government, Boss Mustapha said if the armed banditry was not carefully handled, it would be worse than the Boko Haram insurgency. I totally agree with him because if you look at the way the thing is building up now, you will know what I am talking about.

“Very soon, some religious and insurgent groups may capitalise on it to recruit people for other nefarious acts. We should not allow this to happen, and we should do everything possible to halt it,” Bayari cautioned.

Meanwhile, 30 persons have been confirmed killed and 42 others seriously injured when three bombers detonated Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in Mandarari community of Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State.The Director of Search, Rescue and Operations of the Borno State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Usman Kachala, who confirmed the killings to newsmen when he visited the scene of the attack yesterday, said the incident occurred around 8:00p.m. on Sunday.

According to Kachala, the three suicide bombers, comprising two females and a male, detonated the IEDs in a local tea joint and a film cenre in the community, killing 17 persons instantly. The death toll increased to 30 on Monday as a result of lack of immediate medical attention.

The SEMA director said that his staff could not reach the spot of the incident as the military had closed the road to traffic and the hospital in Konduga did not have enough facilities to handle the situation.“When my team and I arrived at Konduga early this morning, the military prevented us from gaining access to the community to assist the victims. They told us they were given order from above not to open the road until 9:00 a.m.,” he lamented.

According to a News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) report, newsmen who later visited the scene of the attacks along with SEMA team said dozens of the wounded victims were seen being conveyed in pick-up vans by their relations to hospitals in Maiduguri, the state capital, a distance of about 80 km from their town.

President Buhari has commiserated with families of the victims of the bomb blasts. In a condolence message sent to the government and people of the state, Buhari yesterday decried the heinous acts, stressing that perpetrators of evil have judgment awaiting them, not only from man, via the long arms of the law, but also from God Almighty.

Besides, in Taraba State, residents of Jauro Sabai, Kasuwan Bera, Jerbanbur and Kona communities, among other villages, in Ardo-Kola Local Government Area that adjoins Jalingo, the state capital, on Sunday night were terrified by indiscriminate shooting by gunmen suspected to be herders.

The Guardian learnt that the situation has forced the people, especially women, children and the elderly ones in the affected areas to flee their homes for safety. Some of the residents said they suddenly started hearing the gunshots all over their communities on Sunday night.

Though security operatives claimed there was no casualty, an eyewitness told The Guardian that some people, especially those who were unable to run away, were “burnt inside their houses.” Even though it was observed that normalcy has been restored as angry looking soldiers were seen patrolling the areas, there was palpable tension in the Jalingo metropolis.

But for the timely intervention of the security operatives, especially the soldiers, the attackers would have overrun the communities as well as Jalingo, the eyewitness said.

Confirming the report, the state police command, through its Public Relations Officer (PPRO), David Misal, who could not ascertain if the suspects were herdsmen, said: “Heavily armed bandits on motorcycles invaded Tudiri village via Jauro Yinu ward of Ardo -Kola which is predominantly Fulani and Mumuye settlement and set some houses ablaze. On getting the information, we immediately mobilised patrol teams to the area, but before their arrival, the hoodlums have fled into the bush.”

The command said the situation was being closely monitored by the security agencies in a bid to forestall any further breakdown of law and order. At the time of filing this report, some residents were seen moving out of the affected communities en masse.

One of them who spoke to The Guardian, said: “We heard that the herdsmen are regrouping to launch another attack on us tonight. So we are relocating our women and children to Jalingo town for safety.

“Though the police have assured us of adequate protection of our lives and our property, with what we experienced last night, we are fast losing confidence in them. So it is better for us to be proactive because heaven saves those who save themselves.”

At the time of filing this report yesterday, the state chapter of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) was holding a meeting over the safety of corps members posted to the state, as the orientation camp was said to be just about a kilometer away from the affected communities.

Commenting on the crisis in Taraba, the spokesperson of the scheme in Lagos State, Joyce Madaki, said that whatever concerned the corps members was a national issue and NYSC would give it utmost priority. “NYSC doesn’t joke with the safety of corps members. The Taraba incident was unfortunate. Whatever be the situation, the scheme will put things in place for their safety. It will definitely receive well-deserved attention.”

Since the posting has been done already and corps members are expected at the camp from today, Madaki explained: “We do not envisage some of these attacks, the postings have been done already, but wherever such is happening, we know security will be put in place for their safety.”

It is all part of the hype. An OS that hasn't been stressed by power hungry apps and speed is being mentioned. It is too early to compare it with Google. Google has done well for itself by the number of of its own apps which organisations rely on for their functionality. No business will risk toying with a non tested OS. There is a reason the iPhone is still a market leader and Android is a dominant force in mobile OS. What is the selling point for Hongmen? Speed alone? Seriously?

South African president names cabinet 96 hours after inauguration, includes opposition



Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa has named his cabinet — just about 96 hours after he was sworn-in as president.

On May 11, 2019, Ramaphosa’s African National Congress (ANC) won the elections with only 57 percent of the votes, and was sworn in as president on May 25, 2019.

In another 96 hours, Ramaphosa named his cabinet and became the third president on the continent to have a gender-balanced cabinet, after Rwanda and Ethiopia.

While addressing the press on Wednesday evening at the Union Buildings in the capital city of Tshwane, Ramaphosa revealed that he had cut cabinet down the number of ministries in the country from 36 to 28.

The cabinet announced by the 66-year-old president had 14 men and 14 women to achieve gender parity.

“To promote greater coherence, better coordination and improved efficiency, we (are) reducing the number of ministers from 36 to 28,” Ramaphosa said.

“This is a significant move of downscaling our state. Many people believed our government was bloated and this was agreed right across the board. All South Africans are acutely aware of the great economic difficulties our country has been experiencing.

“It is therefore imperative, we place priority on revitalising our economy while exercising the greatest care in the use of public funds. For the first time in the history of our country, half of all ministers are women.”

Patricia De Lille, the leader of an opposition party and former mayor of Cape Town, was also named as minister of public works and infrastructure.

Reacting to her appointment, De Lille said: “I am deeply honoured and humbled to have received the call to serve as a Minister of South Africa’s new cabinet. I have fought for justice in our country for more than 40 years and have no plans to give up fighting.”

The South African rand reacted positively to Ramaphosa’s cabinet, strengthening by 0.5 percent, after an initial loss of one percent before he named the ministers.

Osinbajo receives Imam who hid 200 villagers in mosque




An 83-year-old Imam, Abdullahi Abubakar, who hid 200 villagers during attacks on Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State was on Thursday praised for his courageous act.

Abubakar got the commendation from Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The VP called him a hero and an example of one who could put their own life at risk to save others.

Recall that on June 23, 2018, bandits attacked communities in Barkin Ladi.

Over 200 of them were said to have found refuge in a mosque in Yelwan Gindi Akwati village, Gashish District, where Abubakar is the Chief Imam.

He had insisted the villagers were his “guests” and prevented the bandits from killing them.

The cleric visited the Villa on Thursday in company with several community leaders and diplomats from the US, UK and the European Union.

The VP said, “I commend you for your wonderful act. Imam Abubakar has demonstrated one of the most courageous acts any man can possibly do by risking his life for those who are not people of his own tribe.”

A statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President, Mr Laolu Akande, quoted Osinbajo as saying that Nigeria would be a lot better if people would truly love one another and not on the basis of tribe, religion or ethnicity.

“When people have been wronged, it is always easier for people to accept that revenge or vengeance is the right approach. But as you know, vengeance breeds bitterness and hatred and doesn’t solve the problems created, but causes more deaths and harm.”


The Imam, in his remarks, said he was not looking for publicity when he rescued the villagers, but felt that God only used him to save their lives.

The cleric, who spoke through an interpreter, added, “I pleaded with the attackers not to harm my guests. By God’s grace, no one was hurt. Such an incident (the attack) is rare in my community, but I hope such does not happen again.”

Those on the visit with Abubakar were the US Ambassador to Nigeria, Stuart Symington; Deputy Chief of Mission, US Embassy in Nigeria, David Young; an embassy official, Kathleen Fitzgibbon; and the German Ambassador to Nigeria, Bernhard Schlagheck.

It's not as if the women like to stress themselves so much, but some have very unsupportive spouses who don't help at all. You'll be surprised these same women NEED to work( note: not want to work) . Their wages are needed to send the children to decent schools, contribute to the rent etc. Many cannot afford to outsource housework, and especially going to the market and cooking as every dime saved matters.
I'm very sure women who have very rich husbands, or who earn a lot to cater for all their responsibilities and still have more than enough left afterwards will have no problem outsourcing chores, cooking etc.. Such women usually have cooks, nannies, drivers etc anyway.
Until you have a family you're responsible for, you can't say for sure if you will outsource or not. It all depends on your finances and the total family income coming in.

I agree with your points. The most important thing here is for people to marry the person who values them, supports their aspirations and is willing to accept their disposition to marriage. It would be a type mismatch for the lady to marry someone who loves homemade meals. You need to understand the love language of the person you want to marry and ask yourself if you can meet up. There are men who do not care about these things. We need to understand that our disposition to these things are mostly influenced by how we are brought up, the environment we have lived in and the things we cherish. If someone prefers manual approach to taking care of the home rather than using machines, respect them for it. If they prefer otherwise understand with them. So far as they are not imposing the approach on you there should not be a problem. I see people bashing those who are stressed because of housework and using Regina as their model. This is how people set themselves up for failure.
What is the rate of success in model you have adopted for yourself?

IAAF may stop Team Nigeria from Olympics, African Games over ‘missing’ $134,000


World athletics ruling body, IAAF may have put the machinery in motion to stop Nigerian athletes from participating in this year’s African Games in Morocco, the World Athletics Championships in Doha, as well as the 2020 Olympics Games in Tokyo following the country’s refusal to return the $134,000, which the IAAF mistakenly paid into AFN account two years ago.
The amount was said to have been paid by IAAF as part of its $15,000 annual grant to member federations for the year 2017. But instead of the $15,000, the IAAF mistakenly paid $150, 000 to the AFN. The IAAF accountants later discovered the error and subsequently asked AFN to refund the excess payment.

Former Secretary-General of AFN, Amaechi Akawo, confused about the amount, allegedly contacted his superiors at the sports ministry then, but soon after, the money ‘developed wings.’

In IAAF’s letter to the AFN on Tuesday May 13, 2019 made available to The Guardian, Jee Isram, Senior Manager, Governance, Member & International Relations Department wrote: “You were informed on March 14, 2018 by our CEO of a payment made by the IAAF to the bank account of your federation on May 17, 2017. A sum of $150,000 was transferred by the IAAF of which $134,000 was wrongly credited.

“We promptly notified you of this overpayment and followed up several written correspondences, as well as a meeting with you in November 2017 requesting that you reverse the bank transfer for the overpaid amount to no avail.

“On June 28, 2018, you informed us that the ministry of sports was ready to refund 50 percent of that amount and despite several telephone conversations the amount was still not paid.

While we were in Asaba in August 2018 during the African Senior Championships, we met with the minister of sports and the Permanent Secretary. We discussed about the return of the funds to the IAAF and until today we have not heard anything.

“We understand that the minister of sports will be stepping down soon and it is imperative that you arrange for the return of the full amount within two weeks at the latest. Failure to receive the funds back within that period, we will have no alternative than to apply appropriate sanctions against your Federation,” IAAF official said.

Despite global concern, Air Peace says it’s premature to cancel order for 10 new B737 MAX aircraft



Despite global concerns raised about the technical functionality and safety of Boeing 737-MAX 800 airplanes in the wake Sunday’s crash of the Ethiopian Airlines killing all 157 passengers on board, Nigerian carrier, Air Peace, says it has no immediate plan to cancel its order for ten of the aircraft’s model for its fleet.

Following last Sunday’s ill-fated crash, China’s aviation regulator on Monday swiftly grounded all its 96 Boeing Co 737 MAX 8 aircraft in its fleet.

The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) said all Chinese airlines were ordered to suspend their use of the 737 MAX 8 model of aircraft by 6 p.m. (1000 GMT) on Monday.

The aircraft is the latest version of Boeing’s workhorse narrowbody introduced into service in 2017.

But, since the introduction of the model by Boeing, indications are that Sunday’s crash involving the Ethiopian Airline was the second of the 737 MAX 8.




The first incident was in October, 2018 when a 737 MAX 8 operated by Indonesian budget carrier, Lion Air, crashed 13 minutes after take-off from Jakarta on a domestic flight, killing all 189 passengers and crew on board.

With such concerns, of its 737 MAX 8 bound for Nairobi crashed minutes after take-off on Sunday, killing all 157 people on board, the Ethiopian Airlines promptly ordered the rest of their carrier in its fleet of the jets to be grounded immediately.

Ethiopian Airlines said the decision will remain till further notice as an “extra safety precaution” even though it did not know the cause of Sunday’s crash.

By the end of January, Boeing said it has delivered about 350 of the 737 MAX family jets to customers around the world, with another 4,661 on order.

Perhaps, the undelivered order includes ten ordered by Air Peace to boost its fleet.




But, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday quoted the airline’s spokesperson, Chris Iwarah, as saying its management was not contemplating any decision about canceling the order. He described any such decision as premature.

Iwarah said the airline will continue to act in the interest of the safety of the flying public.

He said the multi-million dollar deal signed between Air Peace and the American aircraft manufacturer, The Boeing Company, on September 13, 2018 for the delivery of 10 brand new B737 MAX 800 aircraft was still on.

“At this moment, it is premature to begin to talk about things and conclusions that have not been put in the public domain.

“Investigations into the crashes involving B737Max 800 are ongoing. So, it will not be fair at this time to begin to make definite comments on those issues.

“We are still in the domain of investigation. But, we want to assure the public that we are following the development very closely,” he said.

The Air Peace spokesperson said the airline had not yet taken delivery of the ordered aircraft, adding that before then issues surrounding its safety must have been identified by global aviation experts.

“We also trust that Boeing is capable of responding to the issues technically. They have the capacity to respond to that.

“I want to say clearly that we will not engage in anything that will jeopardize the lives and safety of our passengers. There is no basis for talking about canceling the order.

“Any step we take now will be premature until investigations are concluded. So, we are following the investigations very closely to ensure that at the end of the day only the right thing is done.

“Whatever steps we take will be in line with what favours safety and what is in the interest of our passengers,” Iwarah said

He further explained the B737 Max Air were “suspended” by those already operating the equipment to enable investigation run its course.




“If investigation runs its course and they feel that there is nothing to be worried about, they will lift that suspension and continue to operate the aircraft but on our part, we have not even taken delivery.

“We are currently working with Boeing, we are also asking questions and following all developments because we are a safety conscious airline,” Iwarah added. (Additional report from NAN)

Buhari runs a govt with no direction – Financial Times


The Financial Times of London says President Muhammadu Buhari has been running a government that lacks a clear direction in the last four years.

The respected newspaper therefore called on the President to see his re-election as an opportunity to do the right thing.

The Financial Times said this in its editorial which has been read and shared thousands of times around the world.


It said there was no clear economic policy like that of Rwanda and Ethiopia.

It read in part, “With his renewed mandate, it is now Mr Buhari’s task to rebuild faith by running a dynamic and successful administration and by building the institutions that can lay firmer foundations than in his previous term.

“The omens from his first four years in office are not good. During that time, the former military leader ran a lacklustre administration with no obvious sense of direction. There was no coherent economic strategy of the sort being attempted by the likes of Ethiopia, Rwanda or west African neighbours Ghana and Senegal to produce the rapid growth needed to haul tens of millions of people out of poverty. It is an indictment of its leadership — both military and democratic — that the continent’s biggest oil producer should have more people living in absolute poverty than any other country in the world.”


FT advised the President to appoint more technocrats in his second term who can help turn things around.

The newspaper said the anti-corruption war must be more holistic and less selective.

FT added, “Mr Buhari’s priority this time must be to set out a coherent agenda, implemented by technocrats rather than ideologues, to turn things around. Nigeria desperately needs to create a level playing field for business in which access to foreign currency, permits, and other requirements is both predictable and rational.


“His much-vaunted crackdown on corruption must go beyond taking action against a few minor officials. Some big scalps would help. More important still is to implement systematic changes — whether by reforming institutions, using technology or by removing arbitrage opportunities — to create a more transparent environment. People should prosper in Nigeria based on what they know and how much value and employment they can create, not by their connections.”

INEC spends N226m to administer oath on corpers, others



The Independent National Electoral Commission spent N226.3m to administer oath of allegiance on members of the National Youth Service Corps and other ad hoc officials undertaking the general elections, The PUNCH has learnt.

The details are contained in INEC’s budget for the general elections which will end on Saturday.



The document read in part, “Printing of 730,000 copies of oath of loyalty and neutrality forms at N10 each; administration of oaths on all election personnel and staff at N300 per personnel.”

According to INEC, over one million ad hoc personnel, mainly drawn from the NYSC, were recruited for the elections.

The commission also spent N10m to print certificates of returns for winners of the Presidential, governorship and legislative elections nationwide.

Meanwhile, it was learnt that the 4, 695 smart card readers destroyed by fire in Anambra State on February 12 would cost INEC over N847, 179, 885 to replace.

The information was obtained from the 2019 budget of INEC which amounts to N189bn.

According to the budget which was obtained by The PUNCH, one card reader costs N167,063.

It therefore implies that 4, 695 card readers will cost N784,360,785.

Each of the card readers also contained a 16 GB SD card which costs N6,000 per unit amounting to N28,170,000.



The spare batteries and SAM cards of the card readers cost N29,954, 100 while SIM cards cost N4,695,000.


The grand total stands at N847,179,885.

INEC had also insured its property against fire, burglary, electoral violence and malicious damage for N131m.

However, it could not be confirmed if the insurance covers voting materials or just INEC buildings.

When contacted on the telephone, the National Commissioner for Voter Education and Publicity, Festus Okoye, said he could not immediately confirm the cost of the burnt card readers.

Okoye further stated that he did not know if the devices were insured, adding that “it usually takes up to six months for insurance companies to indemnify victims of disaster.”

ICYMI: ‘Only 28 candidates registered for common entrance exam in Zamfara’


The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, on Wednesday said the Federal Government was worried about the low number of candidates seeking admission into its 104 colleges across the country, who registered for the 2018 National Common Entrance Examination.

The minister, in a statement released in Abuja by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Education, Mrs. Priscillia Ihuoma, noted that only 28 candidates from Zamfara State registered for the examination.

Pleading with state governments, heads of schools and interest groups to persuade school-age children in the areas with low registration to register for the examination, he said that a directive had been given to leave the portal open for registration until April 13.

Adamu said the report of a stakeholders’ meeting held recently indicated that Taraba, Kebbi and Zamfara states had the lowest number of candidates who registered for the entrance examination. While Taraba had 95 candidates, Kebbi had 50.


The release read in part, “Ahead of the 2018 National Common Entrance Examination for admission of candidates into the 104 Federal Government colleges on Saturday, April 14, the minister has expressed worry over low registration for the examination so far.

“According to him, the report of a meeting of major stakeholders in the education sector said candidates registered in 2018 stood at 71,294 as against 80,421 that wrote the examination in 2017.


“The report further shows three states with the highest number of pupils registered so far are: Lagos with 24,465 candidates, the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, with 7,699 and Rivers State with 4,810 candidates respectively. On the other hand, three states with extreme low registration are: Zamfara with only 28 candidates, Kebbi, 50 and Taraba, 95 candidates respectively.”

The minister said the examination would go on as planned and urged state governments, parents, heads of schools and relevant interest groups in areas to take steps to remedy the situation.

Breaking: Atiku presents 6-point demand to Buhari


The Presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in last week’s election, Alh. Atiku Abubakar has presented a six-point demand to the federal government . Top on the demand was unfreezing of opposition politicians’ bank accounts.

Another major demanded presented to former Head of State and Chairman of the National Peace Committee, Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar (rtd) was demilitarisarion of sequent polls. Gen. Abubakar led members of the committee to a meeting with Atiku and his running mate, Mr. Peter Obi in Abuja yesterday night. The NPC was expected to meet President Muhammadu Buhari government with the demands . Other demands by Atiku were:

*That accreditation of voters should take place before voting in subsequent elections.

*That there should be no deployment of the military in subsequent elections.

* That INEC should open its back end server to all participating parties.

*That there should be a release of all politicians detained illegally by FG.

A source at the meeting disclosed that Atiku “warned that tensions are building up in the land.” NPC team included Cardinal John Onaiyekan, Bishop Kukah and Rev. Fr Atta Barkindo of the NPC secretariat.

Atiku and his team informed the group that the election of Feb 23 was the worst in 20 years of the return to democratic rule. That it was marked by brazen rigging with no consideration to the will of the people.

They listed the following as the issues they had with the polls:

*Deployment of the military was unconstitutional and in breach of Supreme Court judgement.

*That resultantly, a lot of malpractices between the INEC officers, the ruling party and the military took place to undermine the votes/voters of the PDP.

*That there was collaboration between INEC and FG to undermine the sanctity of the votes of the people.

*That this is the worst election in 20 years. No improvement from 2015.

It was learnt that Gen. Abdusalam and his team pleaded with the PDP flag bearer to avoid anything that could jeopardise the nation’s peaceful co-existence.
