Cameroon’s Navy has taken delivery of two new Spanish patrol boats and a landing craft, providing a major boost to the country in safeguarding its maritime domain.

Cameroon’s Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Jean Mendoua, commissioned the 23 metre Aresa 2300 landing craft and two 24 metre Aresa 2400 CPV Defender patrol boats at the Cameroon Navy Base in Douala on November 21. The commissioning also included a presentation meeting as well as a tour of the boats while moored at the Naval Base, according to Grup Aresa Internacional.

The Spanish shipbuilding group has worked extensively with Cameroon, supplying a sizeable number of vessels to its Navy, which has 12 Aresa boats in service. This figure includes six Aresa 750 Commandos RIBs - delivered last August -, five 1200 Stealth RIBs and one 1200 Defcon RIB – delivered in May 2013.

Further deliveries will take place in February when two 32 metre patrol boats will be delivered.

Grup Aresa said that for the Cameroon Navy, the Spanish shipbuilding group is providing two years of technical support, as well as spares and boat refitting services.

Cameroon’s navy is relatively well equipped in order to secure Cameroon’s oil installations and prevent maritime crime and is optimised for coastal and river patrol, especially in light of rising levels of piracy in the Gulf of Guinea.

It has around 40 coastal, inshore and river patrol craft as well as several combat patrol vessels.

Air force:

The Cameroon Air Force (Armée de l'Air du Cameroun) theoretically possesses a fairly well balanced force of relatively unsophisticated aircraft, although many of these are now ageing and serviceability levels are likely to be low. Emphasis is placed on transport and utility operations in support of ground forces. Combat capability is modest and restricted to a few armed trainers that can be used for ground attack, COIN and close air support roles. Six Atlas Impala jet trainers purchased from South Africa in 1997 had a lengthy gestation period before becoming operational and did not enter service until late 1998. None of the Impalas are currently in service. Apart from a few ultralight aircraft, these are the most recent additions to the inventory. Cameroon's air arm lacks training aircraft and has also experienced a significant decline in transport assets, most recently involving the 2001 grounding of the remaining three DHC-5D Buffalo aircraft.

The air force includes three main aerial bases, in Yaoundé, Douala, and Garoua. The air force staff is divided between these three bases, located within each military region. The Yaoundé base is a helicopter and liaison platform; the Douala base is a logistical and tactical transport platform; the Garoua base is an attack and training platform. The first two bases are timeworn. There are no stopping systems, no radio-navigation installations, and no lighting apparatus. No major investment has been made for a long time. The Garoua base is the more modern and the best equipped and "conforms" to NATO standards having been built by the Germans, following an invitation to tender. The PANVR[1] (Pole Aeronautique National a Vocation Regionale) is located on this base. Large aeroplanes can land easily on this base. However, the site is not well maintained.

The Koutaba aerodrome is home to the Bataillon des Troupes Aeroportees (BTAP).
Finally, the Bamenda aerodrome could become a fourth aerial base, with the stationing of the airborne rifle commandos (fusiliers commando de l’air – BAFUSCO AIR): currently 60 people under the command of a lieutenant colonel assisted by eight officers work at the site. Such a deployment is large by Cameroonian standards.
Currently, the air force has 6 Dassault/Dornier Alpha Jets (2 are currently inoperable) as attack aircraft; 3 Lockheed C-130 Hercules and 1 Aérospatiale SA 330 Puma transport aircraft, 1 Piper PA-23, 1 Aérospatiale Alouette II, 2 Joker 300, 7 Humbert Tétras for training and 2 Bell 206 as observation and liaison aircraft. The independently operated Presidential aerial squadron has 1 Grumman Gulfstream III, 1 Aérospatiale Dauphin and 1 Aérospatiale Super Puma, which are not part of air force equipment. Maintenance of aircraft of this squadron is better than for those of the air force..

At that seminar, the question before the assembly was how to put the Satellite in the orbit. When I say, orbit, I mean geo-stationery orbit. The Americans, after thorough research, discovered that the only way to launch a better Satellite was to put it right into the Geo stationary Orbit.
Incidentally, Nigeria was found to be located 29 degrees local angle to the orbit, about 46,000 miles away which means that the orbit was very low to Nigeria.
Right there, we had to liaise with them and they had to bring a boat, the dome with a complete set of network command and a recording station. They actually launched the Satellite in Texas, America but was controlled in our office in marina, Lagos, Nigeria. Although Russia first launched a satellite, it was however not in the Geo-stationery orbit. So the American Satellite was the first that went to the geo stationary orbit single channel.

Prof. Ita Ewa, the Minister of Science and Technology said on Thursday that Nigeria would launch three satellites and send astronauts to space by 2015.

Ewa stated this in Abuja at the ongoing ministerial briefing to commemorate 2012 Democracy Day and anniversary of President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration. He said the move was part of government efforts to boost the
economy through space technology.

NigComSat-1 Communications satellite providing rural internet access - launched on 13 May 2007, aboard a Chinese Long March 3B carrier rocket, from the Xichang Satellite Launch Centre in China. The satellite was the second Nigerian satellite to be placed into orbit. On 10 November 2008 (0900 GMT), the satellite was reportedly switched off, because it lost both of its solar arrays. The satellite was owned and operated by Nigerian Communication Satellite limited, an SPV, incorporated as a state owned enterprise, fully funded and owned by Federal Government of Nigeria. The satellite you are talking about is NIGCOMSAT-1R. It is a communication satellite for Broadband Internet,telephony and broadcasting, not NIGERIASAT our surveillance/earth observation satellite.Simply put, no country will route Earth observation satellites through another country due to the obvious security reasons.(intercepting the data for spying).

Msauza: Firstly, SA Army deployed without Airforce because their main objective was to train CAR Army and not to engage them in war. However, the rebels seen them as mercenaries and started attacking about only 200 SA soldiers who were poorly armed. The decision was, however, made by the parliament of SA that their troops should be withdrawn from CAR, but, instead, the Airforce should be on stand-by to witness their safe exit in CAR.

Should the rebels have tried anything to attack SA troops again, they should have faced the hell fire, they never experienced before.

tell me is the "insurgent camps" and "strongholds" civilian areas ? Baga was a battle between ground forces and Boko haram, and HRW never sent anybody on the Ground to validate their pics,our satelites picked it up and we proved the area is small.

The offensive is ongoing in all three states put under emergency decree, including Adamawa and Yobe, but Borno state is expected to see the most intense fighting.
Many have warned that there is a risk of high civilian deaths and Nigeria’s military has been accused of massive rights violations in the past, including indiscriminate attacks on civilians.
The operation is the largest against Boko Haram.

you do understand that the statement "There is a lot of casualties" alludes to boko haram ?
The other is a warning of civilian death. No where does it suggest civilian casualties from an air-strike.

The Nigerian Air Force involvement in ECOMOG started on September 17 1990. Four units of Alpha Jet landed at Lungi airport on September 20, 1990.

In Op Liberty (1990-98) and Op Sandstorm (1997-98), more than 20% of air power employment was Close Air Support (CAS) and Deep Interdiction Mission (DIM) missions for ground forces.

In CAS missions, 350 sorties were flown with 266 sorties for Air Interdiction missions in Op Liberty. This represent 26% of combat support missions.
NAF A-jets were also used as armed escort to C-130, Super Puma helicopters and civil aircraft. About 9% of A-jet missions were dedicated to maritime and air patrol.

The Nigerian Air Force however lost three (3) A-jets (with no crew losses) while ten (10) sustained Category 2-3 damages.

Weapons employed were conventional unguided munitions e.g. Beluga cluster bombs (CBU),Durandal cratering bombs, 250kg GP bombs and 125kg drag bombs.

A-jets as configured were not perfect platforms for the delivery of these bomb types which necessitated steep dive bombing runs therefore exposing the jets to tripple-A fire.

In CAS missions, 556 sorties (21%) were flown; in Air interdiction missions, 613 sorties (23%) were flown; in Counter Air Operations 116 sorties (4%) were flown; in armed recce, 701 sorties (26%) were flown; in maritime recce and attack, 240 sorties (9%) were flown.

F7 are interceptors and we use alpha jets on the boko boys.Spare us, your jets dont fly,neither your pilots.
