Henry120: Our JAG's would never fly again. Those birds are gone, the europeans killed those birds with the multiple sanctions they placed on us in the 80's and 90's. The cost of re-activating and up-grading those JAG's would almost be the same as acquiring new birds. Only HAL of india has the technical ability to even re-activate those birds, as the parent company of the JAG's is defunct and liquidated.

if they (SAAF) have 26 Gripens then we have 16 jaguars lol. Those birds will require lots of time and money to reactivate,once they stop flying.Its a colossal waste.

The Nigerian Army is in 28 states battling terrorists and as you suggest is overstreched,SANDF is in peace,and is overstreched just trying to police it's borders.well if there was any real need for extra troops we would call back all our security forces to deal with it cause we have both police and millitary forces in many countries serria-leone and liberia included. when our general says overstreched it is relative not absolute.

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has received the second ATR 42MP surveillance aircraft, after it has been configured to a maritime patrol aircraft by Alenia Aeronautica.
It will be used by the NAF for patrolling missions, such as reconnaissance, Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) control and search and rescue (SAR) operations.
Powered by PW 127E engine and 568F six-blade Hamilton propellers, the 42MP has a maximum cruise speed of 280 KTAS.
The aircraft is equipped with a SELEX developed ATOS (Airborne Tactical Observation and Surveillance System) mission system.
Stations for mission operators, calculators and displays to control the mission, as well as main sensors such as search radar and electro-optical devices are also included.
The installation and integration of the aircraft systems and sensors, to transform it into maritime patrol configuration, was carried out at Alenia's Turin-Caselle site.
The configuration was carried out as part of a $73m contract signed in 2007.
The contract also includes a provision for the necessary training for pilots and operators, delivery of a series of ground equipment (Ground Support Equipment) and spare parts necessary to ensure the airplane’s efficiency and reliability for patrol missions.

Come now be sensible,Nigeria has 3 Westland Lynx anti submarine helics and is buying more,Secondly a Frigate by its nature is anti-sub.Aradu is an anti-sub frigate,so is the Chinese and Indian frigates.We dont need to even send out our frigates to hunt your sub,we will just send the helics out to hunt down and blow your sub out of the water.After all you subs dont have anti aircraft missles. The mission was to begin in September 2013, but after an unexpected advance by the rebel forces in early January 2013 and the subsequent French intervention, ECOWAS decided to immediately deploy the AFISMA forces.On 17 January, Nigeria began deploying air and ground forces to Mali.
We deployed at last count 1200 troops as well as air-cover in the form of attack jets and helicopters and led the force.How can we have a handfull and lead the force?stop lieing.
Notice that Nigeria deployed ground forces and air support in the same month that france intervened.

Thirdly, MINUSMA -A U.N.led peaceKEEPING unit- is now in charge,it is not led by Nigeria and is of no interest to us.so we are not going to be part of it. comprehendo?

AFISMA(of which Nigeria was a member)is a peace enforcement unit which was wound down after its victory over the rebels,it has been transformed to the U.N. PKO MINUSMA of which Nigeria is not taking part.
Again the question is did france fail? Do not digress.
