Today, Mr Fisayo Durojaye (General Partner, Ancestors Advisory) shares his journey in finance and transition to venture capital. He also shares insights into the skills investors need to survive in that space such as having a long term view & ability to take losses. He also speaks openly about how retail investors interested in venture capital can access deals in that space. I hope our conversation debunks the myth that there is easy money to be made in venture. Enjoy the conversation. https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9hbmNob3IuZm0vcy80ZWI5NzRjNC9wb2RjYXN0L3Jzcw/episode/YTQ5MjBhZmMtNGI5MC00ZWMzLWI0NjgtZmRjYzQxYTY4NmEx?ep=14

It's no longer news that we have a new sheriff in Nigeria and that he plans sweeping changes to the monetary policy amongst many other things. A key part of the monetary policy is the Monetary Policy Rate (MPR). What is MPR? How is it determined? What is the asymmetric corridor? What is Cash Reserve Requirement and liquidity ratio? What's it's relationship with inflation? With the MPR presently at 18.5%, it's important for retail investors to understand it's implication on their portfolios. Our guest on the podcast in this episode, Mr Temitope Omosuyi (investment strategy and portfolio management, Afrinvest West Africa) delves into all these and beyond. He explains these key economic concepts using simple terms and guides the retail investor against reaching for yield which can be risky. You'll do yourself a lot of good by listening to this conversation. https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9hbmNob3IuZm0vcy80ZWI5NzRjNC9wb2RjYXN0L3Jzcw/episode/ZWJhNTRiZjItNTc1My00MzhkLWEzOWEtODIxYTM3MDY5YmZl?ep=14

BabsO2:As Mpeace pointed out, kindly double check your numbers... Also we need to ask why the numbers for 2022 came in that way (Ghana bond wahala). Will that continue this year? Maybe or maybe not. Excluding the Ghana write down, what would 2022 EPs have been? If gahna bonds do not raise their head again this year (hopefully not), how will 2023 EPs look like as compared with 2022 and with current price? Answers to these questions will help one decide the direction access might be heading to. What do you mean by tier 1 capital issued? All banks have tier 1 and 2 capital. Do you mind elaborating on what you meant.

New article alert... What does the raft of failed banks in America and Europe mean for Nigerian banks? In this first in a series of articles, I pen my thoughts about where our banks are at present and if investors should fret about the ongoing "Banking Contagion". https://stocksng.com/banking-contagion-fact-or-myth/ |

22.04% That's the latest inflation figure from the NBS for March 2023 What does this mean? How is inflation rate determined? How does it relate with interest rate? What is real returns? How should the retail investor incorporate inflation in their investing? These & more are expertly answered by Mr Robert Omotunde (Chief investing Officer, Afrinvest West Africa) in this new episode of the podcast Thanks for listening. https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9hbmNob3IuZm0vcy80ZWI5NzRjNC9wb2RjYXN0L3Jzcw/episode/Y2E0ZmRlZDQtZTcxZS00NDFlLTk2NTctMWVkNTE4MzhiZTk3?ep=14

ositadima1:Based on mean reversion, yes! It's not far fetched that caverton may rise in price going forwards... Everything I have said so far is based on caverton and their dividend history/ possibility of paying a high dividend for 2022. You can look back on everything I have posted on this issue so far... My submission remains the same, caverton and predictable dividends/ high payout ratio should not be used in the same sentence. Can it happen? Of course it can. However the probability of it happening is very much slimmer than that for it not happening. I wish everyone all the best... We all need a bit of luck whether we buy caverton or buy zenith bank... |
ositadima1:No problem boss... Are you willing to stake 50% of your portfolio on that "if"? Anyway, what's good for the 'Greece' may not be good for 'Uganda'... |
ositadima1:Just to help your ministry, look at the chart below to see historic EPS and dividends paid for caverton. Even in the good times, caverton has never been generous with dividends talkless of now that things are tight... Caverton is one of the most dangerous companies on the NGX when it comes to anticipating what dividends they'll pay. And I'm speaking from experience... EPS. Dividend 2017 0.77 0.15 2018 1.2 0.25 2019 1.29 0.20 2020 0.35 0.1 2021 -1.28 0.00 Be careful with Caverton and dividends. What they choose to pay is what they choose to pay...

ositadima1:Lol... Caverton never show you shege before... |

I had an exciting conversation with Mr Suraj Oyewale (Senior Manager, PwC Nigeria) about the Downstream Oil sector and how the Petroleum Industry Act impacts on its players. He spoke about lessons from his upbringing, turning disadvantages into opportunities and brought his extensive knowledge about the oil industry to bear in the conversation. I indeed left the conversation wiser and enlightened. I look forward to adding "richer" to this list once I implement the investing ideas born from this chat. Thanks for listening. https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9hbmNob3IuZm0vcy80ZWI5NzRjNC9wb2RjYXN0L3Jzcw/episode/ZWYxMjc3ZGYtMTExNS00YTllLTk2NDItZDg3MWY3YzFkNDE1?ep=14

creategist:Thanks for the kind words and encouragement... It means a lot to us... As per the Eurobonds, I'm not quite sure which specific Sovereigns he was referring to but I know that the yields on Nigeria's Eurobonds were as high as 12% last month. Not quite sure what it is now... See the picture below for the yields as at November. The challenge with the Eurobonds were s that the minimum amount required to directly participate is quite prohibitive (for me, that is). It can be as high as $200,000. You can speak with the large asset management companies and I'm sure they can hook you up with them. For little people like myself, buying an Eurobond Mutual fund is a good way to enter that sphere. The minimum amount needed to buy into such mutual funds vary depending on which firm one is speaking with. I'll advice that one shops around and one should get a firm that's willing to deal with people like us. I hope this helps...
