Hannania: No language is useless or has "less prospect". It's all about you mastering your domain, and keep developing.
When you learn C#, you'd easily get Entry role based on your knowledge not the technology. When you're employed, the firm would tell you to pick their stack. That's why they check for program proficiency and not much of mastery in entry level roles.
So pick a language and get good with it by proving you can build projects. OK, thanks for your response. |

Hannania: This question has a relative answer depending on background, IQ level and access to the right info. But here's what applies to an average person in 6 months:
1. First decide if you want to venture into the front end or back end. You might even have an interest in UI/UX, so make your research and ask questions.
2. Learn the following based on your choice:
Front end(Html, CSS, Javascript, and a framework(React, Angular or Vue.js)
Backend ( a little touch of HTML, JavaScript/Python, PHP or Java. Then pick a framework(Node.js, Django, Laravel or spring respectively for the languages above)......then learn Git/GitHub and a database(MySQL, PostgreSQL). At this point for the backend, a mentor will tell you from where to go or get an internship.
6 months of dedicated practice can get your fit in the door, then you build from there.
PS: Your learning should be with one goal, Building projects and growing your portfolio. If you want to get Juicy jobs even for entry-level, Crack Data Structures and algorithms, you'll be above your peers.
As you can see, learning depends on various factors What do you think about learning C#/.net in 2022 instead of going the Javascript/php/python route? |

mideactive: I'm talking about entry requirements, not about their curriculum. FUTA that has Bio 101 and Chem as their as part of their 100level curriculum,I just don't understand the need for Bio and Chem in software engineering. Then check other Universities. BUK for example don't have Bio or Chem in their SWE curriculum, and their entry requirements is the same for core Engineering courses. |

mideactive: I browsed through the course requirements to study software engineering in Nigerian Universities,I saw physics, biology, Chemistry and agric-sceince as a must. I still don't understand what the aforementioned subject has got to do with software. This practice is not the same in other institutions in other countries of the world, why only Nigeria? Perhaps, most of the software produced in Nigeria are for commerce and business purposes and not science related. Why are they killing the dreams of commercial students that may want to dabble into software production? Why the unnecessary bottle-neck? I wish our education system can be fixed to handle so many inconsistencies that's is dragging the nation backwards. What do you mean by the above? Show us any University around the world that offer Bsc. Software Engineering without Maths and Physics in their coursework. Below is the curriculum of Software Engineering in the University of Auburn USA for Freshman and Sophomore.

Altairx440: JavaScript hands down.
JavaScript is the language of the web, there are many career options available, both front-end and back-end. Plus if you know JavaScript you will be able to easily pick up many C like languages, for example Dart.
C# is also good especially for game development, but the job market is not big enough especially in countries like Nigeria.
Then there's Go, commonly referred to as the modern C, Go is simple and elegant but the job market is almost nonexistent in Nigeria, also you'll have deal with pointers and other details which will definitely bug you as a noob.
I started with JavaScript, then to Dart, Kotlin, Go and now Rust, All in the span of 3 months, though I now only use Dart and Rust. JavaScript was the eye opener for me, it will be for you too. 3 months experience? Anyways, these are your opinions which are really not totally correct. |
