It's coming Rome!

Southgate has arguably the best pool of talents in this tournament, but he keeps on using the same Kane + Sterling combo. It was his downfall today.

Imagine having players like Rashford, Foden and Sancho on your bench. Blasphemy.

The irony is that all the players Southgate brought on for penalties missed theirs.

I'm reading some Spanish tweets and the Mexicans are disappointed we didn't bring our European based players.
It was all business.

The excuse for not inviting foreign based players was useless.

The plan was to get a substandard national team with some repute, hype the game to sell tickets and merch, then effectively thrash the team in front of the 'home' fans. Everybody wins. Our home boys taste US for one week, Mexico boys prove dominance at 'home', money is made. The only people that will suffer are the real fans who paid to see a classic and were dissapointed.

The whole thing is like all those nonsense WWE John Cena setups when they'll hype the opponent, outnumber Cena etc. Then Cena wins against all odds, fans are happy, money is made, etc etc.

It's very shameful.

Andreas Cornelius is the closest player to Onuachu that I've seen. Exactly the same style of play.

Imagine leaving a tournament with no games won, no games drawn and not a single goal scored.

Turkish football needs a dramatic overhaul. This is so phucking depressing.
The irony is that they were winning big games before the tournament, destroying Norway and Netherlands. Everyone saw them as the black horse of the tournament, especially as they were drawn into a relatively easy group. The whole thing is embarassing.

You don't go on all out on a team clearly bigger than you, unless you want to be spelt. You sit back and try to take advantage of opportunities. The playing style was good. The only problem I had was the fear making them make poor counter crosses.

For those saying that there's nothing special about the US team. Let me ask you, how many crosses and passes were mistimed or inaccurate?
How many mistimed clearances under pressure did the US defense make? How many clear cut attacking opportunities? How many duels and challenges did they win? How many times were they outpaced to a ball?

They were good, but nowhere near their peak performance.

You don't go all out, but you also don't sit back in for basically the entire second half when you're losing by 1-0, and possess no counterattacking plans to even attempt to equalize at all.
SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by drDoom3(m): 5:04am On Jun 17, 2021
The entire game was just a cycle of

US pass in our half - US attack - We win ball back - Clear ball aimlessly - US get ball back - US pass in our half

and the cycle repeats and so on.

We are actually 38 and supposed to be the whopping team of this tournament.

Some people think you can come from Africa, to play the no1 team on their home soil and win them easily just like that... this is a wonderful result.. the 2 goals were all scored during the injury time of both halves. This is to show that the players gave good account of themselves but felt lackadaisical during both added injury times
Game that I watched lol. I was embarrassed by the way we played. It was like we had already given up from the 20th minute or so. Is that how we will go to the next Women's world cup? Any big team we face, we sit back and let them play in our half for 90 mins and hope they only score like 2 goals, then claim we did well because they are higher ranked than us? lol.

Well I think the falcons in the set of Perpetua Nwokocha and Vera Okolo would have scored against this U.S team. There was nothing really special about this U.S team.
I thought I was the only one seeing this. I watched USA at the last world cup, they were much more deadlier than this. The reason it looked liked they played well was because we kept inviting them on to attack and soaking up pressure. If you want to park bus, at least have a counter attacking threat, else it will just be a walk-over. The most annoying thing I noticed in this game was that we were a lot stronger physically than them. Alozie was much more athletic than Rapinoe, that was why Rapinoe was quiet throughout. We were winning aerial and ground duels. I feel like if we had come out to play them, our athleticism would have caused their backline some problems. The few times we did that, look at how they easily gave the ball away.

We just automatically assumed that because they are the number 1 in the world, we had no chance against them and our best bet was to sit back and soak up pressure. That is not how football works nowadays. Better to threaten them in the attacking end and lose 4-2 than to pose no single threat throughout the game, look weak and impotent, and still lose 2-0.

Look at the game against Portugal, see how it started. If we had taken our early chances, we might have scored up to 2 goals in the first 30 minutes. If we decided to sit back throughout the game like we did in this one, Portugal may have scored one and that's it. But we came out and showed them what we could do, and if not for silly defensive mistakes we would have beaten Portugal.
SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by drDoom3(m): 4:10am On Jun 17, 2021
Asides our keeper and Ebi, then maybe Alozie, the rest were really disappointing. I expected Oshoala to be better at reading games, considering her experience. Coach looks 30% good tactically, 70% clueless.
SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by drDoom3(m): 4:08am On Jun 17, 2021
Our lack of attacking threat, midfield and tactics is too poor. I feel like our players can actually harm this US team. We have shown that we are stronger than them in aerial and ground duels, but nothing else asides that.

Tactically, if I was the coach, I would have fixed Oshoala in the US half. She shouldn't backtrack or make her defend. Once we get the ball, loop it over to her, with her strength, height and pace she can torment those US defenders.

Our subs were piss poor. One thing I noticed was that our local players have no football sense. The number 6 that came in was consistently trying to dribble and hug the ball. Very foolish. Our tactics coming in were quite good at the beginning of the game. Press, but sit back. Keep the ball in their half as long as possible. Our game collapsed when we decided to stop pressing upfront and just go into full on bus parking.
SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by drDoom3(m): 2:58am On Jun 17, 2021
Once we stopped posing any attacking threat, the game got done and dusted.

Starts for Esther Okoronkwo and Michelle Alozie. Zogg on the bench. Ebi likely pairing Okeke at CB again.

SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by drDoom3(m): 1:06am On Jun 14, 2021
Our players lack fundamental football sense. Its appalling. We are more athletic, more pace, more everything. But when you don't have football sense, all those other stuff are useless.

I still prefer Zogg to Okeke at CB.

Okeke is athletic, but not smart enough to play CB. Better as a RB or LB.
Ordega is not ready for this game.

Second half, I would bring in Zogg for Ogbonna. Move Okeke to RB, remove Ordega for Okoronkwo/Payne. Tell Oshoala to stay upfront for counter, she drifts inside too much.

Ariyo was underwhelming for me. Also the no 18 has not been bad as you say. That ball by Ordega was a clear goal. It was just quickly removed.
What did you expect her to do with that horrible supply?

That number 18 plays like Etebo. Pacy, gra-gra, strong, but no ounce of football sense or game reading ability. If she passed to Ariyo in the first half with that ball she threw to the sidenetting, we probably would have been leading.

Nigeria 0-0 Jamaica

The Jamaicans bossed the midfield for the majority of that half, and made Oluehi to make 3 saves
If not for Oluehi, we would have been at least 4 goals down this first half. Embarassing to say the least.

The only Nigerian players that played well this half were Payne and Zogg. The rest were shit, even Ordega. Chikwelu in the middle is a time bomb, the no. 18 only knows how to play gra-gra, no football sense. Where is Oshoala and co?

JohnBullMySon:
did you see the denied goal?
Which denied goal? No goal was denied.

If we play US like this, we might collect up to 7. Embarassing.

They isolated Ariyo upfront, made her mark continuously, then the mumu coach removed her around 40 mins because she was "tired". This is a very simple game to win. Payne has pace. Ordega too. Remove the number 18, remove Chikwelu. Drift ball to the wings, tell Ordega and Payne to chase, cross for Ariyo in the middle. She's tall and aggressive, will probably win aerial duels. Also looked dangerous at times. An Onuachu type of player.

If not for that offside call, Okoye would have registered another howler…

For real though, I don’t think Gernot Rohr is the right man for this team at all. The lads have largely been uncoordinated in their approach to this game.

It’s now crystal clear that the SE, under Rohr, that the individual brilliance of the players + the average to poor form of the likes of Algeria and Cameroon at the 2018 WC qualifiers were the factors that helped the SE to score so many goals against those teams.
Second half, we want to see the new players he invited. The man is so afraid of losing that he keeps on with the same players he thinks will win, but we still end up losing. Why don't we try out the players we invited and see what they can do? You can't keep doing the same thing and expect different results.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by drDoom3(m): 4:57pm On Jun 08, 2021
Considering the number of goals these guys have in Europe, their lack of attacking threat is ludicrous. Second half, yank out Musa, put in Iwuala. We need guys who can drive at Cameroon's defense, and this first half, only Simon came close.
