Lord_Reed: Serious wahala o! I have postponed my new phone hunt to next year January, I want octacore now!Hahahahaha. I don't know if I'd be able to live with the tension till that time o. Imagine if that M3 is released with that glowing label at the back as shown in some 'leaked photos' or the S1 is really priced low. I doubt if the WP8 will able to distract me from all that till around March next year. Gosh! These guys are driving me nuts! |
Lord_Reed: This December/next January should see some interesting price wars.I'm trying to imagine what the market would look like by then. I'm getting worked up already on which to pick. I'm still torn between the S1 and M3, now this news. Don't even know what to think about everything any more |
Nice...the big names are getting attracted. More options for users. This chip should force prices down. That score is scary lol |
Gosh! What kind of 'wahala' is this ehen?! |
mr.drizzy:Ha! Just noticed it. Well you know it was you . Hmm...didn't think about the glass protection part. I'd take it like that if I have the chance without a flinch. It's not as if I'd be using the device as a skateboard lol. The specs is too nice to worry about that for me. |
@ Mr. Drizzy I like the fact that they launched a new OS. As much as promising as it is, I feel they woke up too late. They should have done what they are doing now 2 to 3 years ago at least. I just want a break from them for now. I'd try & wait for their next full touchscreen if I can fight off the temptation of the Z10 long enough before they do. As for the Firefox OS, we will not be seeing it on a high-end device anytime soon so that's a turn-off for me already. Looking forward to what Ubuntu has to offer. Also, the guys that left Nokia to develop an OS Nokia rejected have something in the making & it looks promising too. Sometimes I just wonder how we arrived at this point where the so many options can almost drive a person nuts. I get your drift about the android thing. Obviously, duplications are helping them in the number of apps war with IOS. Nokia has to do more no doubt but many developers (I think) are just too neck deep in the android-IOS sphere. I'm hoping Nokia won't fall for the android bait eventually. @ Lord Reed These Xiaomi guys are wicked o! Just when I thought I've had enough torture from Jiayu, they confirmed my fear. I've been reading speculations about this phone for some time. This sounds better than the Jiayu G6 & S1 put together. Now the question would be the price. I doubt they'd be able to launch this with the $300 - $320 price range going by what's loaded in it. If they pull that off, then Jiayu & the rest can kiss loads of customers goodbye. I'd even wait 6 months to get me one. Only snag is the resellers that shoot up prices crazily. |
Lord_Reed: Not really interested in WP8. I had a WinMo6.5 and I didn't enjoy the experience so I don't trust MS yet. Besides I have played with a Lumia 920 nothing special in there. As for BlackBerry I just want them to release bbm for Android so I can say goodbye to it.Oh ok. Sorry about that...but I just meant something to fill the space while the main 'food' is ready. U know when u are so hungry and the smell of the food being cooked is so nice but the food has to be heated for a while more. Sometimes u just find something to calm ur salivating tongue & rumbling stomach. I'm new to the WP platform so I'm hoping before my interest wanes, I'd be able to get the S1 or any other nice android phone. Tons of people are waiting for the cross-platform BBM version. I stopped subscribing months ago already & just use wifi. |
hancock: Honestly thats why I ve ordered for a nokia lumia 920 off ebay. Just cant stand the argony of waiting for a device you cant predict its availability. I ill probably just kill the tension with another phone experience in windows 8 along with my aged galaxy s2I'm suspecting you o! Have you been spying on me / reading my mind? I almost thought I posted your reply while 'sleep-walking' on nairaland. Only the Lumia 920 & S2 part made me confirm it was another person that posted that. Hope we'd be able to rub minds on the WP8 when your 920 arrives. USPS still tossing my 820 around Lord_Reed: Men all these guys are really spoiling me now o! How can I buy a BlackBerry now? I haven't craved devices like this in a while. I feel a literal hunger!Blackberry? Dropped the Z10 last minute. In case you don't have one yet, allow me recommend that you get a WP8 phone instead. It will be more interesting as you'd be having a completely new experience with it |
Chei! This will make it harder for me to wait for 3 months at least before I try & get one o! *goes off to find some industrial glue* |
This is the 2nd or 3rd site I will see quoting $300 - $350 price range. It would be a steal if it actually sells for that at launch. It's quite dicey to believe they actually have the phone in stock so it's better to still keep watching. |
Lord_Reed: Jiayu S1 $320 Nice.A source / link would be nice ![]() |
@ Fiscalcliff Seems we have a lot in common. It just doesn't make sense to lose so much on new tech I'd get cheaper if I wait 3 - 6 months. Also, like u mentioned, that will give time for any little errors here & there to be fixed. Although I'm eagerly waiting for the launch of the S1, I know very well that I won't be getting it soon. I just want it launched quickly so that I can start reading praises & bashings that will follow in reviews. Kindly share results of ur research on the G6 & S1 whenever is okay for u. I know the G6 will have the largest battery ever in a phone. The S1 is to use a 3000mAh if I'm right. Anyway, to make my waiting period easier, I ordered a Lumia 820 via ebay. That should keep me busy & distracted till towards end of the year when I may then order the S1. It would be nice to see the Ultra Z take a massive tumble by early next year too lol. If u call ur own style 'super glue' then mine should qualify as industrial glue lol. Noted the customs car auction thing & may take u up on that later ![]() @ Mr. Drizzy If u have to judge Jiayu based on their designs, I feel they've not done badly if u consider the age & size of the company. Do u remember what Samsung, HTC (and other big names') phones looked like 7 - 10years? As regards moving too fast, they are fighting in a crazily fast market. This is an era where the Nokias, Blackberries, etc of this world are playing catch up. I wouldn't complain of having too much RAM on that kind of chipset 'cos it will make a difference in the next 1 to 2 years as regards running certain programs that will spell out minimum requirements. Plus if it was coming from the big names, they charge u higher so maybe its better value for money. I may admit I'm wrong though if I see a very geeky analysis on this. Allow me to remind u also that we are already hearing of 3gb - 4gb RAM on phones. |
@ Fiscalcliff Lol @ the wallet super glue thing...couldn't agree more though ![]() Have you considered the G6? I think it has some of those features you are looking for. Bad side is that it is yet to be released along with the Jiayu S1 Wicked people! |
hancock: just like you I have ordered for nokia lumia 920. I cant play the waiting game anymore. hopefully towards the end of the year these phones will readily be availableThat's great! Congrats. Good to know we are on the same boat. The waiting game is really killing I tell you. The 920 is quite a 'machine' but the weight & limited memory (especialy) made me pick the 820 instead. By the end of the year, I'm sure they would put out specs of phones in development that would keep people waiting again. Gosh! What a wicked cycle! Lol |
Ok cool. WP gurus in the house, please start a thread for general Windows Phone OS discussion. ![]() |
Very glad to see people coming out to identify with the WP8 OS. Please let's start a thread on it. I'm completely new to the OS. Do we need to have a census? Lol |
ThaProf: Thank you jor. It'll make a lot of sense. Current users, intending users and past users will be able to share their views and help one another with fixes and all.It will be nice to have one. U may be suprised at the number of people that would come onboard. Got one (an 820) but it's yet to arrive. Looking forward to where I can get good pointers. Thanks |
balogunsam: I haven't used or reviewed the Cube....its just the Pipo i am familiar with.Ok thanks sir |
pannyman: I tried to open the Amezcua website but it would not open. This in my book is a red flag. Guys, let's be careful.Sir, try and investigate things thoroughly before u say it's a red (or whatever colour) flag. There must be an error somewhere. That said, u should have simply googled the name to scan through whatever results that come up. |
Lord_Reed: Wow G6 is nice especially at less than $300. A few sites seem to have it.You see it's a very tempting piece if the price hovers around the $300 region. Save for NFC, 4G & the processor; it may turn out to be a steal. From a video I saw, I'm quite sure of quite a good build quality. |
@ Balogunsam Good day. Between the Pipo and the Cube of the same processor, which is the better option in terms of build quality and other factors? |
mr.drizzy:That's true but the Jiayu batteries seem to perform quite well as they claim. I've read quite a few reviews by users. Would be nice if Madam Peachie can also give us an update on the battery performance too. The G6 is said to have a 5000mAh battery. That plus the size and MediaTek Turbo processor were what attracted me in the first place before I took a closer look at the S1. How has your experience with the 520 been? |
mr.drizzy:Hahahaha...you are completely right with your financial views. Couldn't agree more. I personally try to find the cheapest way of getting these devices 'cos you spend so much on something and the silly companies just launch a 'newer' version after 3 months . There is a very high possibility I'd end up with the S1. Hopefully they will launch it soon. I'm quite won over with the specs. The processor it carries made me change my mind on the G6 which touts just 'the biggest battery ever in a phone'. A Lumia 820 + Jiayu S1 isn't a bad combo by any standards. Seriously, where is Peachie? This Jiayu G4 must be very nice o Jiayu please release the S1 already I want to disappear like Peachie too! ![]() |
Lord_Reed: No the Find5 doesn't use the snapdragon 600, its the snapdragon S4 it uses.Confusion galore. Thought I was the only one having this sort of issue. That Ultra is too tempting. S4 is quite annoying in terms of the finishing (the plastic back cover specifically) which makes feel so cheap. I may just sell the one I may get later next year. G6, Ultra & S1 are my options as of now though. |
Lord_Reed: Ok yeah just checked the price of the Oppo Find5 that uses the same chipset and it's $460 in India that's about 74k in naira not exactly cheap.I get your drift sir but I'm hoping Jiayu will launch it with a slightly lower price at least. If it's that expensive or higher, I may just wait out till it drops or snoop around for a dissatisfied owner putting it up for sale lol |
@ Mr. Drizzy That's some good news. I just hope they won't have released andriod version 8.0 by the time these Jiayu people release the S1. I can live with the specs really & I'm sure the price won't be cut-throat. I hope they won't have issues with the RAM on it. I can play safe by waiting 1 to 2 months after the launch before I make my order lol. Glad to hear you've got a Windows phone. I hope you will be able to give some pointers on how I'd enjoy it. The phone already arrived at my cousin's. Couldn't ship out to me yesterday 'cos of the weekend so by next week I should get it. Looking forward to it. I hope we haven't hijacked or derailed the thread o |
@ Lord Reed I get ur point sir but it's possible they peg the price at $500 or even lower. The reason is that big names like Song, Samsung, etc spend a lot on R & D, IMC amongst other capital intensive plans so they have a higher cost of production to recoup back plus as much profit they can grab. Smaller industry players have lesser figures to worry about hence the price margin. |
mr.drizzy:Yes sir...check my last reply to Madam Peachie. Even then, I couldn't do it from here 'cos I got it from ebay America ![]() By the way, have you checked the specs of the S1. It's got everything...from MHL to NFC to gorilla glass, FHD, etc. Only thing I think it may miss is the 4G capacity but my Lumia 820 will cover for that lol. Besides, variety is the spice of life ![]() @ Peachie Please help me beg Jiayu to end this waiting game o! ![]() You've disappeared ever since your phone arrived. I'm guessing it's a case of '...and they lived happily ![]() |
mr.drizzy:From ebay lol. The G6 without 4G & NFC will be too ridiculous at that kind of price. G4 advanced version be a good buy but then the S1 with the snapdragon processor is also tempting. It's torturing how I keep looking at many options lol |
@ Peachie Congrats ma'am. Would be expecting to hear updates from u once a while as u discover more about the phone. If it took that kind of 'wahala' to get ur phone in the U.K (apologies if I'm wrong about ur location), I wonder what I'd face if I asked them to ship to Doha. Anyways, congrats once again. @ Mr. Drizzy The G6 waiting game is still on (and annoying if I may add) plus they seem to have increased the price to $500. If it's that high when it launches eventualy, I'd probably lose interest. Came across a crazy price for the sony on some site like that. $920 or thereabout. Anyway in the main time, I've ordered a Lumia 820. Don't want to end up with 2 andriod phones. |
*adjusts on chair* Such a long wait. Already ran out of popcorn days ago. Glad to hear it's been confimed. I knew u are a 'madam'. Laughed when someone thought otherwise earlier in the thread. @ Mr. Drizzy I've been waiting just like u o Wonder when the G6 will be released. These Jiayu guys do know how to keep someone waiting. They don't seem to know how much a device like the Sony Z Ultra is tempting |
