Very false information!! Rhesus is not a leading cause of miscarriage. Plz this should be taken off front page to prevent misinformation. |
The hatred for doctors by Nigerians is appalling. Cases of gossypiboma exist everywhere, and research shows that incidence is low in Nigeria (despite the poor state of health facilities and renumeration of the doctors) compared to other countries. Fact is, with better funding, proper equipping of health facilities, training and retraining of staffs, better renumeration, optimal staffing of health facilities etc, we can bet that incidence of gossypiboma will be close to 0 in Nigeria See some research below https://pssjournal.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s13037-017-0140-2 https://www.dovepress.com/abdominal-intraluminal-gossypiboma-demographics-predictors-of-intralum-peer-reviewed-fulltext-article-CEG How many retained surgical foreign bodies occur in the US annually? Approximately 1,500 cases of RFB occur annually in the United States [1]. RFBs undergo two types of foreign body reaction [3]: The first is an aseptic fibrinous response, resulting in formation of a granuloma, which can then undergo calcification and decomposition https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2833312/ The incidence of gossypiboma has been reported as high as 1 in 1000 to 15,000 intraabdominal operations There are many more. Yet for 2 or 3 cases in Nigeria despite the bad theatre lighting, poor theatre facilities, poor staff training and retraining, shortage of manpower, poor pay, poor financial capacity of patient to pay for surgeries (the pay for surgeries in Nigeria is one of the cheapest in the world even without a good functioning health insurance scheme) etc, Nigerians demonise their best. All Nigerians do is demonise doctors, no wonder they (doctors) will continue to abandon the country. These same people that demonise doctors will shout hosanna to their thievery politicians. Shame. |
Post like this should be banned. We can't continue living as if we are in 1930. This forum should be for providing right info, good education and not for spreading lies, mischief, unfounded beliefs or absolute rubbish. This post is an example of such negative write-up. N/B: Contraception is for all that is sexually active irrespective of age. Investigate the author of this post, and we won't be surprised at the number of induced abortion she had procured but will openly criticise one who don't want to be a victim of unsafe abortion. |

With the happenings in the country, APC should not be winning election anywhere But we have grown more than party politics as both big parties are different sides of same coin, hence the focus should be on individuals and not parties In Edo state, even the blind man can see that Obaseki is a Goal. I really wish Osho-ole will go against him, so Osho-ole can be put in his place by Edos PMB losing elections in Edo was due to the PMB and Osho factor Both belongs to the Abyss Obaseki is a goal, though there's more room for improvement |
They can do d surgery even if the patient is still bleeding, as long as they stabilze her before the surgery and have blood available also intraoperatively By the way, there are medications to stop or reduce bleeding from fibroids. And if she's perimenopausal, pls advice she gets hysterectomy done, as that is d only permanent cure for fibroids. All d best |

When I read things like this, I ponder on so many things. because Nigeria is a country where all impossible things become possible. I once had a patient like this who was 12 months pregnant according to her and yet sees her menstruation regularly. She said her first pregnancy was same, and she delivered a baby after 22 months at a hospital in Port-Harcourt. As at the time she was seeing me, she was 47yr old. She had her first baby 3 years earlier. When we examined wat we felt was nodular and corresponded to 30weeks uterus (implying huge fibroid). So we sent for an ultrasound scan that revealed there was fibroid. She then said same was seen in her first pregnancy till she was asked to go to the said hospital in PH. There she was managed and delivered later. On further interrogation the husband claim he was around wen the delivery occurred and was outside praying till he heard the cry of babies. They told us that the same God will do this. The nurses and doctors around us were suspicious, but I calmed them down, and inquired about the name of the place but was told that they have forgotten d name. I then gave them antenatal drugs and asked they do another USS elsewhere and see me in a week time. I also told them to also help with name of the place. But the couple never returned. Also had a case recently where a couple after 15yrs infertility were blessed with a set of twin in a clinic also in PH. However wen one of the twin fell very ill and was to be transfused neither the father and mother's blood was compatible cos both were A+ve while the child was O negative. I knew this was possible, but eye brow was raised and DNA test done revealed none was the parent of the twin. In summary, wat I am saying from this story, is dat it is possible that it was a wrong diagnosis by the sonologists, or that the woman eventually got pregnant even after the USS (cos fibroids don't necessarily prevent pregnancies) or that some other Nigerian factor played a part or that the testimony is incomplete. Hence before we rush to conclusions on any story get all the details of the complete story. |
Most likely anenceohaly with severe spinal tube defect. Very bad prognosis |
MademoiselleMiel:Plz rhesus isoimmunization hardly cause miscarriages as stated in d post. I put up a reply on this post to correct the wrong impression. Also it is not so common among blacks, however during ur next pregnancy a Rhesus antibody titre can be done for u and if negative u should have rhogam during and/or immediately after the pregnancy. For prevention of recurrent miscarriage see a gynaecologist asap and see my post in the health section for possible causes of miscarriages. All d best. |
Hello sir,are you a Dr? Yes |
Interesting, but OP some of the information u gave are obviously wrong 1) that the father is Rh + does not mean d child must be Rh +. Don't forget that the genetic makeup could be +/- or +/+, hence we advice that the rhesus status of d father and child be checked esp at birth b4 giving Rhogam 2) Miscarriage is one of d least complications of Rh isoimmunization, the common ones are jaundice, kernicterus, Erthroblastosis fetalis and hydrops. 3) Rh isoimmunization is hardly complicated by recurrent miscarriages 4) the common causes of recurrent miscarriages are Genetic factors Chromosomal anomalies Cervical incompetence Uterine anomaly Luteal phase deficiency Drug misuse/abuse Diabetes PCOS Antiphospholipid syndrome Connective tissue diseases etc Plz though Rhesus isoimmunization is a big problem, its complications are preventable and treatable, and it is very uncommon among blacks. Use of Rhogam is to prevent it and IT HARDLY CAUSES RECURRENT MISCARRIAGES |
