Crvrider: The bolded is exactly Dru's point. If the whites are having a hard time getting their cars fixed, how much more down here in Nigeria where quite a number of mechanics don't take the time to update their skills.
Dru was only stating what he felt was the obvious. I follow chrixfixit on youtube and this guy is a bad ass mech. He uploaded a video of changing the battery of a Prius and without the right skill set and tools an attempt to do that will turn that car into a lemon.
Blackbishop: Oga gazzuzz na now I understand why you ask me to see beyond my horizon. The mentality of some people on this particular forum is just beyond reasoning.
Am just done with some Larger than life Human here. You need me contact me on my page or WhatsApp. This is my last post here.
NYCnextStop: Baba why are you contradicting yourself. First it was that there are no technicians for hybrid cars and now it is the stress and time to get the car fixed
See eh... there’s no cutting corners to excellence. Once you are good at what you do people will always find you. Even people with normal cars don’t mind waiting for long hours to have their cars fixed.
You can’t be wherever you are and dictate what happens here. There are lots of hybrid cars here with plenty technicians also. Stick to what you know
davit: How I wish others would understand your point! But, nevertheless, let whoever wants to go hybrid go. When the battery wahala starts or wiring issue, keep it to yourself.
You do well sir , I just remembered, when my Blue Honda civic was giving me several issues, some of those issues were fix and others couldn't be fix .. So I was told to take the car to a Honda specialist in Ladipo .. This Mechanic only deals with only Honda cars only nothing else .......
When I got there the place was full over full with people waiting for their cars to be fix .. I was there waiting with I beg and I beg to attend to me ..
After waiting for more than 3 hours. He was able to attend to me .. It took him less than 1 hour to fix the issue, it was a very simple and it cost me about 3k naira . Few weeks after that another issue arise with the car ,car was taken to the same mechanic.. He was busy he didnt have time to attend to my car .. My driver was there for a full day ,and we was told to come back the next again ..next day came and the same shit ..the guy no get time too many customers etc ...out of frustration of begging and out anger I sold the car .. I wish I didn't and just wait ,but I was so too upset ..looking back now I wish I didn't sell the car .. The car was sold less than 1 week I put it up for sale .......
My point here with hybrid cars that only few specialist mechanics that can attend to it . The hybrid owners will go through 100 times worse than I went through.. If the owners are willing to wait for hours to days to months before a hybrid specialist attends to them . Than good luck to them ..
Keep mind it is not good to be switching mechanics up and down with any cars ,talk less of cars like hybrid...
This is my last topic on the matter .. I owe nobody any apology.. Common logical reasoning sometimes is not common ........ No more talk on this matter again ....
Blackbishop: Baba nobody dey vex here for him, but condemning in totality is not right.
Constructive criticism is the process of offering valid and well-reasoned opinions about the work of others, usually involving both positive and negative comments, in a friendly manner rather than an oppositional
GforGee: Argue? I don't do that, sorry to disappoint you. Now, I've not done a census of the number of mechanics in Lagos or anywhere but I can tell you that there are thousands of them. Quick question, how many have you tried? Nobody says you shouldn't state the facts, but you go a long way to condemn. I guess it makes you happy!
You fail to be objective and fail to read and understand. Condemn or constructive criticism......
My views are more of constructive criticism, than of condemnation
You asked how many mechanics have I tried.. Enough to know that you don't touch a hot kettle twice ..
GforGee: Y'all should try to understand each other and not throw jabs (I wonder why you even enjoy that ). Dru is based in USA, and every mechanic there is competent, thus making him carry the same mentality to Nigeria that any mechanic (roadside or otherwise) should be competent. My guys here for Naija knows better about Nigerian mechanics that not all are good (as a matter of fact, you have to try many to find a competent one). Since Dru have experienced lots of incompetency, he has made up his mind about certain things. I think we should see his point of view even if we don't see his point. Mr Dru, I think you should also be calming down ooh. Don't go start thinking Nigerians are incapable, no, we are not, na our leaders dey draw us back. You will be shocked at what we can do under the right circumstances and with the right tools. For example, how many mechanics do you think are able to afford a torque wrench, which they need badly They will always want to improvise. So next time, please ask those on ground and don't just condemn us, it actually makes some people agitated. And from what I've known on Nairaland since I've been visiting since about 2011 or so - No be everybody sabi take/absorb words for understanding.
Unfortunately alot of you guys here on nairaland read, but fail to read without understanding.. You guys tend to read with either 1 eye or with two eyes close
The issue of mechanic came up with hybrid cars.Somone wanted to get my opinion on hybrid cars especially prius. I stated basically not in nice way coz am not here to please anyone , that it is not a good idea coz Nigerian mechanics are not skilled enough to work on them , and even if they are skill enough they are not too many of them to handle ..
It will not make sense for you to drive down from Ogun state to Lagos to look for an Hybrid mechanic.. That is not counterproductive at all .. There is a lot of cars petrol cars like Acura Mdx ,Ford cars, Volvo and some Japanese cars that local mechanics are still struggling to learn and fix ..mechanics in Nigeria are still learning work and most don't have the correct tools to do the job etc ..
Nigeria mechanics will you tell certain cars are good because that his the only cars they know how to fix and anything else is bad .. People bring in cars based on Nigerian mechanics skills on how to fix them etc . Some cars out there are actually good ,but not enough mechanic that know how to fix them , and you think I will advice someone to bring in hybrid cars...
There was an article years ago that I read how wealthy Nigerias will cargo their luxury cars overseas for regular maintenance check and fix..
In my past post I stated that USA mechanics are crazy too ,and even some car dealership mechanics are careless and they can mess up your car ..
I stated that when I got my Infiniti g25x , I took it to a white middle class to upper class mechanic shop neighborhood area .. I refuse to take my car to ghetto area shops ...
If any mechanic here is offended, it is because they lack confidence in themselves.. If you are good at your job you will ignore my comment and keep doing what you doing..
Most cars owners have trust issues with mechanics . And most will not leave their cars overnight at a mechanic shop..
Whether you like it or not I speak facts. Oya argue with your keyboard
pope191: Boss Felicity started the fire... They still have feelings for each other, they both enjoyed working together, but reality sucks. It's either they both see a therapist or speak to each other honestly, admit faults and let d process of healing take it place.
abbey621: I'm also a US citizen, words like treason is the exact reason why we have chaos in the US right now. Both sides are guilty of playing politics with American lives and your accusation of treason will not hold up in court. I do agree with you tho, there is no evidence of election fraud and Trump needs to move on.
Only 1 side .... It starts with "R" Mr. Republican am neither a democratic or Republican.....
Felicity0001: Don't mind them... Na bad belle people.
I always say, "a person who always pin point faults in everybody he works with or relates with is tje one a with problem".
How possible it is that even with how talented and hardworking Nigerians are, yet we dont/won't have one, just 1 good and competent mechanic that have at least 70% knowledge on electric cars. Is that possible? And all our mechanics are bad. Lies!
Pearl1910: I second this opinion because I have had first hand experience.
Nobody is belittling Nigerian mechanics but just stating the facts that there are no enough competent mechanics/technicians for Hybrid cars yet in Nigeria. (see Hvac's situation now he has to sleep in Asaba cos of minor fault and mechanics are still doing tombotombo)
Also our maintainance culture is very bad, we patch/manage our cars, and we change parts only when they are bad, we don't follow required service time...doing that with an hybrid will tell in the shortest possible time and the cost will be catastrophic. Fixing only one cell is patching and you know it. But u are okay cos the car don start. That car cannot charge and discharge properly again and your 'fuel savings' will be going down d drain.
If u have a Prius that's still serving you, good luck to u, (please tell us the MPG/KmPL you get on it) But I will not advise someone to go and buy it, except his pocket is deep.
swiperthefox: That's why Nigeria is a mess. No functioning cell in the brain. Someone is destroying a 240+ democracy and you are attacking the legislator's personal life because she wants to do her job.
Don't mind him joor.. He is 1 of the hoodlum that supports the president of hoodlums in Aso Rock ..hoodlum supporting hoodlums
swiperthefox: Now, it is 50-50. Kamala Harris has the tie breaking vote. It is good for him to be a 2 time impeached ex president that didn't finish his tenure.
Jeromejnr: You didn't even counter or say anything intelligent. Just the normal Nigerian emotional meltdown you guys have.
Am based in the USA bro.. You just sit at home and talk out of ur ass... time and time Trump has undermined democracy, time and time again the Judges that himself elected and even his own Attorney General that himself hand picked stated that there is no evidence of election fraud...
He even invited the Georgian Republicans that were in charge of elections to the white House . They told him there is no evidence of fraud ...so what more evidence does he want .. He has not only exhausted his rights under the law, but he has gone way behold of treason and borderline dictator... he needs to accept defeat and move ......
Don't interfere with our politics, focus on urs ..USA will find a way to sort themselves out in the long ...
Jeromejnr: Its not against the law init because its favours you..but yall were disturbing Trump when he was questioning and investigating votes which was his duty by law.
Trump too doesn't owe anyone any explanation.
People like you are the reasons why Nigeria is a fail state. You reason with the same place you shit from... ANUS
obalala: Dead this talk about Pruis bro... I’m not advocating for anybody to buy it.. just stop the exaggeration about owing one in Nigeria or abroad, it’s not as bad as you’re projecting it pls...thank God a former Nigerian user commented. Pruis wey Dey everywhere for California .. order lyft or Uber and you have a 70% chance a Pruis will pick you up... The numbers of pple using it in Lag is increasing doesn’t mean when you randomly snap a picture you expect to see a hybrid in it... what kind of sample collection is that sef ... I enjoy silently reading this thread but on this exaggeration about Pruis dead the matter Gee.. I won’t be replying you on this matter again
I guess you don't read much at all ...we talking about lack of technical expertise in Nigeria.. You talking about something else ... go and sit down and read to understand, and not read like a 5 year old
One thing is to read and it is another to understand.. Read to understand sir .. Have a lovely day sir
obalala: I currently use a Pruis will be 2 yrs next month in Nigerian roads no major fault and I haven’t spent one dime on “the Kazeems” .. had a challenge at first in finding the right mechanic when I needed to do oil change but all that is story now..if you’re very observant you will notice more Pruis cars in lagos roads of recent “don’t they know the battery is expensive? Why are pple Shipping it more into 9ja? Every time I go for servicing I see loads of Pruis Uber drivers there (next time I go will snap) in btw my colleague at work has been using his Pruis since 2016 and only changed 2 battery cells till date.. . I can’t vouch for other Hybrids but Pruis remains a King..
Oga no car dealer in his right frame of mind will just go auction and buy hybrid cars or Prius like dat . Those loads of hybrid Prius are more likely request orders from people that personally wants them ... If you compare the ratio of non hybrid cars to normal cars ,the ratio is very low for hybrids .... And you also stated that you will snap the loads of Prius when next you go for servicing etc..
Me I can snap a picture of cars in the whole of Lagos State only and you will not able to locate any hybrid cars ,na Corolla and big daddy camry u go see. Nigerian car dealer has taken all the Corolla ,camry from the USA , pretty soon Nigerians will be exporting those cars back to USA ,before USA government sanctions the Nigerian government for theft
Please keep in mind those Prius hybrid you see coming into naija are from auction and very cheap ,because nobody buys them.. And most hybrid owners will get rid of their hybrid before it starts giving them issues.. Hybrid battery can last couple of years, so before it expire it is sold at the auction..
We have nothing against your hybrid sir, na maintainence and technical know how of our naija mechanics ..
