chillex8: I avoid any mechanic or electrician that recommends removal of coolant thermostat and direct wiring of cooling fans.
Me I avoid them based on the following...
1. The ones that tells u this is Nigeria.. Thermostat is not needed ? This is very common among Honda cars
2. The ones that believe using water instead of coolant.
3. The ones that like to convert Automatic a/c compressor to manual .. This is very common among nairaland mechanics ( especially the so called car gurus) they known themselves here
4. The 20w50 oil crew.. The ones that will tell you it is ok to use as long as you change oil every 2k to 3K miles .
5 . The ones that can only fix certain Japanese cars
6. The ones that don't read owners manual ...
7. The ones that just pour engine oil without checking the oil capacity of engine
8. The ones that will drawn you a graph of ambient tempt . and explain to you that W stands for winter . And we have no winter in Nigeria and there is no need to use the recommended 5w30 .. That 15w30 is what we should be using
melviniyke2002: wud need oil n filter ending of Feb.don't knw if u can source for original denso SK20HR11 or NGK IFR6A11 iridium plug for me......d 2 service I hv done I used Mobil 1 extended... Can I switch to Pennzoil 5w 30.
Switching is not a problem .. For my 2011 infinity I switch from Mobil 1 extended performance to Pennzoil 5w30..
For normal cars like Toyota and co .. USA Castroll magnatec will do fine as long it has the API seal on it and you are sure of the authenticity of the oil ....
For the oil filter and the iridium plugs I will check that up for u...
For all your engine oil and oil filter needs.. We at dru23 got you covered ..
Am a USA based businessman that exports Auto products into Nigeria .. We take pride in what we do and you are rest assured that the product are 100% genuine ...
Pennzoil oil 20k naira 5w30 and 5w20 .. This is one of the premium oil brand in the world .. For your premium and luxury cars .. We highly recommend Pennzoil for the ultimate peformace and engine protection..
Castrol 5w30 16k naira..... For your normal Toyota cars and Hyundai etc USA Castrol will do very well and you are assured of engine protection.......
Miscellaneous items oil filter 3k naira and Car spray freshner 2500k ....
Due to Nairaland mechanics and so call oil experts ;Ddeviating from owners manual.. ( The likes of Honda, Ford, Toyota should invite this guys on nairaland to board of directors of these billion dollars company )
We encourage car owners to always read and follow owners manual at all times ..Failure to do so you have your self to blame.....
Now in case that car owners have either knowingly or unknowingly wreck havoc to their cars.. Than you are at the mercy of the mechanics .. Prevention is better than cure.......
Impeachment trial after expiration of his tenure.. Does that make any sense?
The impeachment trial is to banned him from ever holding office. Since he is a 1 term president , under the constitution he can still run in 2024 for the presidency.
If the impeachment trial goes through, he won't be able to either run in 2024 or hold any political office
izzou: I stand to be corrected. Hybrids are not a good car for ehailing in Lagos
Please don't misinform people abeg. The simple reason is because there are very few technicians that can handle it.
Cars are machines and their efficiency is below a 100%. If your hybrid car stops at Alakuko, or a bus stop at Shangisha, are you advising the driver to just call anyone to look at it?
And please stop talking about fuel. The number cost in this business is maintenance.
I can net 20k driving on batteries alone, and a bad shock absorber would take it all away
True talk ... it is a matter of laugh now and cry later
Wartsnigeria: I have actually never driven it beyond LUTH premises and that's just one time. I drive a hybridLexus against all odds as set by Mr dru23.
I have nothing against hybrid cars.. But for the Nigerian expertise is where the problem lies ....Nigerian is still struggling to maintain and follow owners manual with petrol cars, na hybrid they want maintain......
It is like me encouraging people to drive electric cars in Nigeria .. The government can barely provide 24hr constant light .....
GAZZUZZ: Google can be misleading , owners manual might not be available.
Nairaland is free.
Sir Google is still your friend.. Abi Google for Nigeria dey different from Yankee own .. Update either ur phone or Google to USA version... Google still ur friend sha
shollywendy1: It is possible too for hp drivers if the car is not injury prone. Where drivers stays and God's grace says alot on how much you earn. Have never made less than 11k a day and close 2pm daily during this winter. At least , I have 9/8k left after expenses everyday. If I'm to be on rental or hp, I will conviniently remit 25k still left 15k weekly. But we can't deny the fact that the winter is real this year
Victoraguwa: I will do that tomorrow engine never opened and serviced with 5w20 fully synthetic oil
We have all your imported oil.. We can waybill from Lagos to ur location ....
If your car is direct tokunbo or you have been following owners manual we welcome your business.. But if otherwise continue using what u are using ......
Our imported oil from the USA plus owner following manufacturer advice will prolong your engine lifetime.. Anything short of that you are damaging your engine
OJURONGBE1: When I see Ford Pathfinder, Explorer, Edge, Focus, Fusion, Taurus & F150 on the road, I wonder what the owners would go through when the motor start its madness. Funny enough, some of these Ford brands i see on the road looks new/chacha tokunbo. Is it the interior & the build they fancied or the series of headache the car would subject them to that lured them?
Nigerian maintenance culture is bad to start with.. We need to hold car owners accountable too ,not just the cars alone .....
People fail to read owners manual at all times. All cars are not built equally. This is why tokunbo engine is a big business in Nigeria.......
Example : you see people on the forum here using fuel additive on their cars without reading owners manual .but if you read owners manual, it tells you using fuel additive might damage your engine. Same with engine oil ,the car manual states 5w30 oil ,car owners and mechanics alike will say 20w50 oil is fine and change oil every 3k miles due to Nigerian hot weather . You think this mechanics should be working with the car company themselves. when the car start having issue it now becomes the car fault or brand etc ...... We need to hold car owners accountable, just because a Toyota can take some abuse does not mean other brands can take the same....
Infiniti Fx45 is one of my favorite Suv out there. Nigerians will tell you the car gives too much issues etc , when they themselves are not maintaining the car ..
So the brand of car you mention needs the right owner . And some brand also do tend to have issues on their own too..... It is a double edge sword
OJURONGBE1: I no abuse am o. I followed all the necessary maintenance procedures. Engine oil was Mobil1 5w-30 Transmission oil :Motorcraft Mercron Lv used immediately the car came in . But as I dey sort one issue, na hin another dey resurface... Na fuel pump use me suffer pass. I changed 4 for ojuelegba before e work. Engine seat nko? AC Nko? Many electrical problem nko? Make person thank God for Life sha.
davit: Guys, which is the best way to handle steering while driving? Gazzuzz, radautoworks, Blackbishop, izzou your input will be helpful.
Ur right foot on left side of steering and place your left hand on the right side of the steering.. This is will give u optimum control of the car... you might want to sign your will before doing this though
pope191: I speak regarding that Honda evil spirit and not in general, like I pointed out about the guy that just gained engine problem from get go of buying a toks across water. On d 31st I pick a rider with his wife and they some wot make it clear to me, about going to buy a car, if I can help them to check, told them no, but I can call a mechanic around the area. The guy test drive four cars and it's just one problem or the other (Toks). I hope we can see this as an understanding chat and probably a room for me to learn.
Most Nigerians don't know about vehicles and we have this mindset mechanics are debious. Are they right? An average Nigerian is debious and anyone living in Lagos or Port Harcourt is expected not to have certain sluggishness or drag attitude in them, so need to check and balance on handling an average Nigerian seem important. On issues of using engine to 250k or 400k, most cars coming into Nigeria are almost DOA (most). Some have already done 280/300, Bishop and d geng will now fine tune it to 83k ( my father is watching them). Secondly, almost every new thing in this country outside cable wires are fake, courtesy of us going to China to demand for low quality as per the strength of our money. It is so bad that one is not sure of the beer or beverage one is consuming again as we have some folks producing these products in their sitting room, from mobile 1 to conventional mobile or any kind of oil moving the market is been refill somewhere in this country, conventional mobile practically dry up in cars now and if one does not carry out proper check before leaving home, that's how pearl1910 will b blowing reserve oil on 3rd mainland bridge to island So! in a nutshell, to maintain cars and trust the process in this country? it's either one is buying oil from Dru direct when its due for service or just forget about 100% accuracy, when it comes to taking care off cars with our local products.
As I can't tell d condition of the Honda presently I rest my case... But it won't b advisable to make a profit of 200k after 3 months and use 150k to solve problems, that is hustling backward. I know what my first car use my eyes to see, Just the door handle, I can't get it else where unless Ladipo, even with that "Go ask Obi, u don check Ugo place, if nah Toyota now, I get", the stress just doesn't worth it.
Please I'll like to know, do the vulcanizer's over there use fufu to fix tyre? Just wondering
Car business is a tough business to get into... Buyers need to do their due own diligence......
Felicity0001: This is called constructive critism... Good way to criticize and not the other way of always using the sledge hammer at every slight opportunity at your disposal whereas you still go back to seek the help of the same person/people you just condemn.
There is no ideal state on earth here unless in heaven, reason I dont like advising people on the choices instead I tell them the prons and cons but not discouraging them.
If you wanna buy a car for the job do your feasibility study and if the hybrid supersedes the petrol car in profit margin why not? Go for it. After all both cars are not meant to serve a life time.
The world is advancing and in 15-20yrs to come I seriously doubt if 40% of the world's population would still be using petrol cars. Many countries are already giving free tax and insurance to people using electric cars, world leaders are thinking of saving the world trying hard towards the green house effect. I think The vice president joined other world leaders by signing Nigeria into the use of electric cars. So why discourage people from advancement? I dont get!
Or have we forgotten that Nigerians are wired to jumping into any skill or business thats selling? I can bet you that a lot of schoolers are already acquiring a skill on the latest technology wrt electric cars. So with time things will fall in place. But as for me I'll join the train from it starting point because I dont have all the life to live till when it g9nna get to it final destination.

kanuisagoat: The truth is, our mechanics are really trying. Go to edmunds and other car review websites and you'll see hundreds of car problems that still remain unresolved despite countless visits to the dealership.
I have even seen someone say Acura or Lexus(can't remember which) had to fly in their engineer to his city to disgnose and resolve the issue with his vehicle when the dealership he bought the vehicle from couldn't resolve it.
Even the engineer that was sent could not resolve the issue so Acura had to replace the vehicle for the guy.
Those were engineers with modern tools, scanners, and tens of years of experience. How much more our own local mechanics. While it can be argued that quite a number of them incompetent, cconsidering what is available for them to work with, they are really trying.
