From experience 03 to 05... if you are buying a tokunbo, make sure you buy a good..follow the Manuel advice on type of engine oil and especially ATF oil or gear oil ..make sure you use Honda ATF and coolant too ... Honda engine are almost bullet proof ,but transmission, u must use Honda ATF .. Those that have ears let the hear .. You fail to follow this advice, you are on ur own

To me mechanic are more corrupt than politicians.....I just changed mine currently...my Toyota Camry recently develop a fault ie engine oil leaking underneath the car...he charges me for 25k ND i bargain with him for 20k... fast forward I paid him 20k,took like 5days before he said he has fixed it... after using the car for sometimes, yet still the same fault... luckily my friend introduce me to another reliable mechanic ND he did this same issues just for 8k
My brother you are very correct.. At least 80% of them are corrupt..... Mechanics and a manager almost run me out of uber business... a lot of them don't know poo ...but luckily for me now I have a good mechanic now from Togo ...... But if people take the time to learn the simple basics of car maintenance, I can assure you that trips to the mechanic shop will be less frequent ....a lot of people on forum unfortunately and fortunately are at the Mercy of a mechanic...

Quite correct sir the recommended oil for my car is SAE 5w20. However the last oil change or rather the first oil change I did after I bought the car (Nigerian use) was Mobil xhp. Secondly can you please advise: every 2-3 days I pour a medium sized cup of water in my radiator, is this normal? However, if I decide to use coolant I was thinking of going for the one made by Total and then mix 50/50(coolant/water). What's your take please, first with regards the oil and then the coolant? Waiting...
Never, never ever use water in your radiator unless for emergency purposes, the constant use of water in your radiator will coz rust and damage the radiator.. Water in your radiator boils at high speed compare to coolant.. Most of my stuff I import.. I do use Prestone coolant ..... I can only vouch for what I use..
Since am not a mechanic, I tend to use common sense and research when dealing with my cars.. My advice is for you to take your car to a professional shop like radauto in Lekki ..have them check the engine and radiator if the car .. To see the extend of the abuse if any ... if there is no sign of abuse, than you can than start or continue to care for your car. That will be my advice...

Your crv uses 5w20 but at the same check your oil cap too. I do have the 5w20 for sale for 17k. Make sure you use high grade oil filters .. Also if you have not been using the correct oil for your car, it might be too late to use mobil oil .. Mobil 1 oil is might to keep and protect your engine running .... It will not work after you might have abuse your engine.

How is a civic?

What is the comparative advantage over an elentra 08?
I currently use an eletra 08 in good shape and I use the Mobil 1 only for service. The car engine is just doing fine. I have had issues only with front suspension which making a like noise now.
In my own personal experience, the civic is a bit stronger than the elantra suspension wise. The elantra has a better ground clearance compare to the civic... so each car has is owns plus and minus... the elantra suspension at times makes a lot of noise.... Most time with car parts like suspension, you need to get a brand new one or better yet a very good quality tokunbo.. Once you can get those those things rite ,you wouldn't have an issue .. I don't want people coming out saying that elantra has bad suspension etc ..if you get good quality part. You will be ok.
Also the reason why am going for civics, 03 to 05 ..it is Base on the fact that I can get it cheaper, way cheaper than the elantra.. And keep in mind the elantra is getting more expensive to buy.. Getting an elantra is almost as expensive as corolla.. With the civic I can get my money back faster than the elantra, due to fact the civic is cheaper for me to get.. Continue using Mobil 1 oil 5w30 and you will enjoy the elantra for years to come. And also I do have two elantra on my fleet.. Good cars no major problems at all

@Dru23,

You still have this for sale, if yes how much?
You have the Fram oil filter? how much

The Mobil 1 extended performance says 15miles, is it recommended to keep to the 15k miles before oil change.
Can this Oil be used for servicing Toyota Camry 2005?

Thanks
Yes I have 0w20, and 5w20 for sale 5quarts 17k naira.. The fram oil filter is mainly for corolla, matrix, vibe and I have for elantra too. All fram oil filter is 2k ..
The Mobil 1 oil Extended performance is good for 15k miles oil change.. But I do it till 12k miles oil change, especially on my uber cars.. And the fram oil filters is also good for 15k miles oil. Change... if you are using your cars for uber, imagine the amount of money you save by using the extended performance.. An average uber driver does about 2k miles a month. Depending on the type of oil you are using, u either change oil every month and spend 5k naira or change every 7k miles depending on the oil type.. But either way extended performance still saves you money in the long .. This is how I ran my cars on uber tested and proven...
Ps. Be on the look out for 5w30 around May ending . And yes you can use it for your camry 05 .

Would like some enlightenment, and advice pls.
My brother follow the manufacture advice at all times.. Those corolla engine don't come cheap at all ..certain brand of engine oil are good on all weather.. Plz and plz follow the owners manual.. It will say it on the oil cap. If you use a good brand of the 0w20 ,it will do fine regardless of hot or cold weather

One thing almost every "uber don cast" driver here doesn't realize or failed to acknowledge is uber was not designed for rental. Once you accept this fact, a major psychological barrier is lifted and clarity may be gained.
Acceptance is key for both driver and landlord here. Uber has a model that it operates globally and that is- drive your car at your own pace to make extra cash.
We in Nigeria found a way to build a model (Rental) around this model. Here uber has no hand, that's why uber doesn't directly provide drivers or vehicles.
The uber is slavery conversation can therefore only be effective at driver/owner level. That's why people who drive their own vehicles aren't crying so much as rental drivers and landlords. Uber is like airbnb
Gazzuz and the fence crew are on the fence because of the inefficiencies that arise via the third party (drivers). If Gazzuz or dru23 drove their cars themselves, they'll spend much less on maintenance and generally enjoy higher profitability.
Personally, I don't see how 35k is so hard, its grossing 15k daily after commission. 5k for fuel, 5k for landlord, 5k for me. A mistake I think we make is wanting to remove all our expenses, including personals, from our earnings before arriving at a net income. Anything outside of fuel and recharge card for data and calls cannot be classed under operating expenses. Suppose you earn a salary of 100k after taxes and contributions i.e. pension/him etc that is your NET. Not after house rent, feeding, fees etc, all that will come out of that 100k as living expenses. How you manage it will determine how far it'll take you. But we want to remove fuel, rent, commission, dstv, Netflix and then bank 40k as net for the week... Naaa.
Finally, we need to understand and respect each other. What I put in is different from what others might. I looked at Jesusson2020 hours online and number of trips and juxtaposed with mine... I did 42 hours 33 trips against his 72 hours. Numbers don't lie. Now if he's paying his rent consistently and owner services and maintains car appropriately it'll take some time for any major car trouble to come up. Saying his engine will soon knock is plain evil.
Also, we must understand that e-hailing does not begin and end on nairaland. There's only a fraction of drivers/landlords/riders on this thread so lets stop sounding like this is the e-hailing national assembly where all matters are decided. Plenty people no know or send una here. I went to Denis at Akoka to fix my a.c. some months ago, I got to know of him on nl but the guy no even know of nairaland. Lets just chill Abeg.
There's an entitlement mentality drivers here have which I think needs to stop. Let's not confuse it with having high self esteem. If anything, I smacks of an insecure and fragile personality. Drivers need to earn what's desired and not Command it, you have to be at a certain level in life to be able to command things of others. Someone here said taxify has more drivers than uber therefore it'll ruin uber if they continue to lose drivers and I'm wondering if its drivers that are requesting rides or riders.
Lets think in perspective, but most of all let's live and let live. I must not see the world through your eyes.
Have been so busy to reply you... what you need to be asking me is how much is my maintenance costs etc.. You are talking about assumptions .. Deal with facts and facts only... yes we can agree that profitability is not like what it used to be ,when uber first came into Nigeria market.. That is Fact #1 ...Fact #2 it does not mean that the business is not profitable... also my profitability is a combination of at least 5 things...
1. Good driver ...if you have a good driver, your maintenance costs will reduce.. If the driver drives responsible, it will cut down on cost.

2. Mechanic... you need a mechanic that it is trust worthy. In the past I had very bad mechanic.. A lot of them use wrong parts and did poo jobs. I found out that I end up replacing the same parts over and over again.. It was a nightmare, most time the mechanic was using wrong parts... the new mechanic I have now is very good...

3. Maintenance... I maintain my cars very well ..from experience bad oil, coolant etc were constant issues for me. I had to sell all my uber cars due to the issue .now I do my own oil change and use my own oil filter.. With Mobil 1 oil Extended performance.. I change my oil and filters every 12k miles.. Compare that to someone changing every month and spending 5k naira doing oil change..

4. Types of vehicles... for you to succeed in this uber business.. You need good cars and reliable cars too.. You have to look at the currant profit margin of the business.. You have to t yourself, those it make sense buying corolla ,elantra, for the business.. Especially when the cost of those cars tokunbo go for about 1.6m upwards.. At the beginning I was shouting elantra up and down .. But as the profitability of uber changes, I had to adjust myself.. It didn't make any business using a car of 1.6m for uber anymore.. How long would it take you to make your money back.. So I had to look for alternative and I started using 03 to 05 civics. Those cars are great and rugged enough for uber.. And the landing cost for me is just excellent.. If I tell you my landing cost, you will not believe me ..so I don't need to reveal that to anyone...
Conclusion : Just because you didn't succeed in something ,does not mean others can't succeed ... once I get my other business running and stabilise, I will stop posting on the forum or I will do less of posting.. No matter how much you try to teach people, they still don't get it .. And pretty soon people will wonder why the next person in the same line of business is doing better... people need to learn from others...

Have you had any of your drivers drive a manual car before? Did they complain that it was more difficult.

I've seen manual versions of good cars, near tokunbo conditions that are cheap, like 2004, Honda accord, 2001 Honda civic, 2009, 2010 Honda City, etc. They are cheap because they are manual drive and most people want automatic transmission.

But I keep hearing that you shouldn't do taxify or uber with manual transmission, that one may regret it.
You can use manual drive on uber/taxify or any e hailing.. The question is that how many drivers will except and delivery rate .. Point blank to be on the safe side .... I take God beg ,stick to Automatic and Automatic only... to avoid stories
