How is this going to "crash" the cost of Internet services in Nigeria? Is it not clear from that interview with Funke Opeke that Main One has no hand in prices the retailers set? Ma'am Funke and her team are "expecting" prices will go low because of competition. Brothers and Sisters of Nigeria, before Main One, there was competition and prices didnt go low. Who will these retailers be, wont it be the likes of MTN, Zain (or whatever name the GSM LovePeddler has sold itself to at that time) and others? Do we know these people to consider price "crash" during competition? I am happy for the Main One o, but its all BS to jump into conclusions and "expect" internet will be cheap because Main One has spent Trillions of Naira bringing Europe to West Africa. Main One is out to recover cost so no dulling on their "competitive" pricing scheme for retailers and the retailers as we know them will not show any dulling in slamming huge fees on "the fastest internet connection in Nigeria" or whatever ad phrase each retailer will tag it with. And we for our part will show a no-dulling attitude towards getting MainOne-EffBeeT. Someone should call Germany and tell Chris and RJ wassup'ing, make dem start to prepare test bed.

WebmastersRe: How much does it cost to design a website by DualCore1: 8:28pm On Jul 06, 2010
You intend to update a school's news and results without a database from your end? When you are not there, what happens?
Its best you do things well. Don't see this as a "basic" site. You are about to develop an online solution for a school so think it out properly. The school should be able to have a panel where they can update necessary things as and when due.

jmoore:
What will you yourself charge to design a website for a secondary school or a church?
You really want someone to throw you a figure to work with.  cheesy

School websites have gone past the days where all they do is Home, About Us, Staff, Contact yada yada.

Here's an excerpt from a school site i am about to develop.

Features
Admin Area: This is the single user who has access to all parts of the application and can make changes across the application. The admin
can add teachers, classes, students and parents. He can view records, edit records, delete records and carry out overall management of all
users.

Teacher Area: This user role can be assigned to a class. The role of the teacher is restricted to the class he is assigned to. This means the
teacher cannot carry out some functions on a class not assigned to him. The teacher can view student records, update them and add his
comments which can be seen by the parents.

Student Area: Each student will have a profile online. This profile is accessible by a username and password for each student. The student
can view records and comments meant for him. He cannot edit records or comments.

Parent Area: Each student will have a parent area that is accessible to the parents alone. They can view the records of their children and
communicate with the teacher or the admin.
I cannot tell you exactly how much I am charging them but its above 300,000 for development and I am charging a recurring amount for maintenance. Well there are other payment options I gave 'em but this is the one they've accepted.

My pricing is based on a few things (how I work):
1. I am working alone
2. I am building it from scratch with xhtml, css, php & mysql which will mean some sleepless nights and diggin into google for papers on things i havnt done before (if any).
3. Its closed source, my codes are under my copyright and they cant see or touch the core.
4. Its for a single domain, this means if they try to run my work on a different domain, it wont work.
5. The site is theirs the codes are mine.

It will be way more expensive if I was given them my entire source after work or if I was outsourcing any part to someone else.
You need to consider how much you will be spending to get the job done and how much your client is budgeting for the job.

There is no single, correct answer to your question.
WebmastersRe: What Do You Look Out For When You Choose Webhosting? (webmasters Only) by DualCore1: 12:42pm On Jul 05, 2010
Yes its realistic, yes its needed. However, with a good knowledge base, support articles on your site and a good service you will hardly have to answer support hotlines every time.

WebmastersRe: (survey) Pls Who Is The Best Web Hosting Service In Nigeria And Why? by DualCore1: 1:26am On Jul 02, 2010
And when everybody goes bla bla this, bla bla bla that, you are going to somehow tune this thread into this https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-472175.0.html right?

You really think you havnt created yet another ground for adverts to start flying around, right?
You really want everyone to believe you didnt see the Child board to put this exactly where it should belong.
C'mon people.

I'm going to over look this and drop my candid opinion on that other thread since that what you're asking for.
