Meanwhile, to more important news, breaking news on sky is that Mertesacker will have a Medical with Arsenal today. The end for Djorou be that, him long rope don end and Arsenal have called Bolton's bluff, let them go and find the club that will take Cahill now. |
ritchboy:I will not for once say he gets everything right, if you are not winning trophies every action is scrutinized for a club of Arsenal's stature (a stature largely attributable to Arsene himself). Even on this thread there are as many opinions as there are contributors as to what is the right or proper thing to do. I judge Arsene from a very wide perspective over a long time span and overall, I'd say he has done very well with what he had to fight with in respect to what he competes against. It is true he set the bar very high by himself and sticks to his game plan against all contrary opinion he doesnt believe in. I personally would have that than some coach who would set the bar low, grumble about what money the board makes available daily and change his strategy with every storm the media creates. |
edoyad:Is that really a proven fact? ![]() I dare say even if it is, by how much exactly? and what exactly is his scope of duties to merit such wages? those are information not available in the public domain, but it tells me there is something he is seriously doing right to evoke such commitment from the board I personally don't even need much information personally to see it, I read our financial reports immediately they come out. The day Arsene stops delivering to those who employed him, I can assure you they won't need any prompting from you to chuck him out. ![]() |
edoyad:Most people hear what they want to hear, the club also repeatedly stress that they are devoted to sustainably running the club. Money is available to buy afterall they've bought Gervinho and all these other players. What they can't do which should be clear is competing for the top talent with those who are not bothered with balancing the books, hence why our negotiations are long and drawn out and why we are missing out on top talent (each year our pull also lessens as the trophy drought continues). They also need to keep their eyes open for young talent so that they can be caught young and developed hence why you have the Miyaichis, Campbells and co. Take a look at the turnover in playing staff that Coogar pointed out yesterday, if I'm not mistaken within two years only 2 of a starting 11 remains, Arsene himself has stated that is not how to build a big club, he cannot come out and say he can't compete as that would be self defeating, anyone who isn't looking at things solely from an emotional perspective should be able to see what is going on. That is the whole point I think Debo and I have been pointing out all the while, at present Arsenal fans need to readjust their expectations. I readjusted mine a while back but even then an 8 - 2 trouncing still hurt badly. In all honesty that shouldn't have been allowed to happen for any reason. |
edoyad:The board knows something you don't. ![]() Arsene Wenger at present keeps Arsenal afloat with their financial strategy. Have you read Nasri's recent interview? http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2896/premier-league/2011/08/30/2642751/manchester-citys-samir-nasri-concerned-over-arsenal-transfer I've said it on here many atimes, Arsene has been selling to buy since about 2005, what keeps setting us back is the influx of money, I think he wanted to stop the rot right about last season but City threw a spanner in the works again. Like Slim pointed out at the time his statements about selling your best players and being a big club were calculated to get the board to loosen the strings. All these players could have stayed for Arsene if they didn't have their own lives to think about, if I'm not mistaken he even convinced some of them to stay beyond when they would have ordinarily wanted, Henry and Fabregas to name a few. People keep on harping about him selling this or that player but I'm yet to find one of them who is annoyed with Arsene for selling him. Even most of the Arsenal legends who know their stuff asking Arsene to spend don't want him gone, they know he is still the best man they have. |
naijababe:Don't worry, he is already on his way to QPR if the press are to be believed. How a player can smile after that beats my imagination, maybe he already knew he was on the way out sha but even then what happened to professional pride? Nasri still felt so bad we lost 2 - 0 on his last match. |
In other news, Young to be on £40k/wk. Na dis kain tin Arsenal dey laik. And he will wear the No. 9 jersey. Seems arsenal rate the Korean national team captain so highly
Why the chap nor refuse that number 9 ? him nor know the history of that shirt for Arsenal? ![]() anyway maybe yesterday's defeat is the sacrifice to wipe away some jinxes sha. ![]()
Ramsey is clearly not yet the material for arsenal's midfield, let be sincere. Even Cleverly who I know very lttle about oozes more class, IMO.
I like Ramsey, he just needs to man up and show more bottle, you earn the right to play and when the going gets tough the tough get going. He has probably been picking up a few bad habits from Arshavin but he is too young to be doing that and if he doesnt learn from yesterday, he never will. He still has a long rope to pull with me cos of that leg break. Good to see the club taking responsibility and repaying the fans who paid to watch such a debacle. I am still expecting something from the players, they need to take some responsibility too, they need to show that this will never happen again, and by the squad, that includes those who stupidly got red cards to miss the match as well as those who were too scared to go to OT and decided to fall sick. ![]() |
slimshay:The annoying thing about the first goal was that it was exactly what he did in the goal we conceeded to Boca Juniors in the Emirates. |
Ibime:Not me, I've always owned up to Djorou's lack of concentration and poor decision making. I even mentioned it when he and Squillaci were part of a reserves team that conceeded 4 goals against a Blackburn reserves team only for him to turn up with a good run in the first team last season. |
slimshay:Just find me someplace to get that mind wipe abeg. I'm still screaming when I awake after drifting off ![]() |
slimshay:Honestly Slim, I've watched a lot of those goals over and over again, the positions Ramsey and Rosicky were on a good number of the latter ones were disturbing. Jenkinson will get a lot of blame but that boy was seriously short changed yesterday by Djorou mostly but also by our MF players atimes he was even double teamed and I was shouting where the hell is the support. One thing Jenkinson is not lacking in is spirit, hence why he got the assist for RVP's goal just because he hustled. I've always known Ramsey's off the ball work is poor, that is what makes Wilshere better than him at present, teaming him up with Rosicky wasn't such a good idea but what option did Arsene have? It was painful yesterday my broda, I'm still asking around for where I can get a memory wipe. If you still have any doubts about the Ramsey Rosicky axis, go and watch the Benfica pre-season match again, it was exactly the same way our MF was overrun yesterday. By the way, I've finally given up on JD, some ailments are incurable. |
@Slim Ramsey along with Rosicky are major culprits in our losing so badly yesterday, they were not useful going forwards and utterly useless tracking back. Yesterday was a game that called for grit more than finesse but unfortunately they couldn't produce the required grit. Of course, they still tried to play tippy tappy but yesterday required more than that. When finesse fails you, then you hustle and harry but they were not prepared to do that. |
mukina2:Who wouldn't? |
When I need you - Celine Dion. |
It just got a whole lot darker. ![]() we'll get through this, we got through the 6 - 1 drubbing in 2001. |
I agree it was more of a physical collapse though, the positions of Rosicky and Ramsey on most of those goals were shocking, even Denilson's much publicised inability to track back was never as bad. |
proudly9ja:There isnt anything positive about this barring that it can't be worse than this. I didnt expect us to win but I expected to see more fight from our players. We couldnt have possibly done worse with our academy or reserve squad. The players should give this week's wages back like the Wigan players did as apology to the fans for such a debacle. It was all stacked up against us and I would have even gladly shrugged off a 2 or 3 goal scoreline but 8 goals is a tad too much. |
Disappointing scoreline, didn't expect much from this match but the score line is terrible. |
Thank you jare Theo, A-40 na your boy dey give us hope o. |
Come on lads, we are the arsenal |
only FFP can save everyone from this City juggernaut, see them beating Spurs like small boiz on their own patch? Frimpong was right, money is the root of all evils. DK, yu never start to dey pee your pant for UCL? ![]() |
allboyz:However they want to do it, I say YES, I trust Wenger to not get mugged. Straight swap or + cash or player addons I still say YES. ![]() |
Seems Joel Campbell didn't get a work permit, Feyenoord should be glad to get him since they can no longer get Miyaichi. Coquelin (who is preferred to Lansbury) and Ozyakup might be involved today if some players don't pass late fitness tests as we're down to the barebones. If there is any truth in a Arteta for Bendtner swap, I say a big YES. |
If true, lille will feel very bitter about this and we can as well kiss hazard's siggy goodbye. We totally gazumped this one if d reports are considered true. We dare not complain when the clubs relatively bigger to us do same.
I didn't hear anyone on this thread complaining when Inter snatched Alvarez or when Campbell's deal seemed like it'd been hijacked at the time. If anything most people blamed arsenal for not being fast enough so why the hypocrisy now? How sure is anyone that Arsenal was aware of this supposed medical and what part did his agents have to play in all these? I distinctly recall Robinho thinking he was coming for a medical at Chelsea when in fact he was going to city. ![]() Forget that stuff about us not being able to get Hazard becos of this, if we have the cash and they need the money, a deal will be done. Player transfer is mostly about money. |
I come in peace, I hope Drogba is OK. |
Even if he is a replacement for Hazard sef, that isn't Arsenal wahala jare. His contract isn't finalized yet abi? Isn't that the same way Campbell initially missed a medical as well and everyone was screaming blue murder that Arsenal was slow and haggling too much? ![]() I don't know who he is replacing, give him a chance to play first and then you can start coming to conclusions. I would have liked Hazard, if I'm not mistaken I asked for Hazard and Gervinho on this same thread even before last season ended but if 56m is Lille's valuation of Hazard just because they think Arsenal has money, then I'm very glad we snatched Park from under their noses. We will go back for Hazard when they become more reasonable ![]() |
Undecided on this, 3.5m looks like another bargain buy when we do have money. However I recall, this Park guy scoring against Nigeria in the World Cup and scored 13 goals in the french league for a club that went into relegation, besides anyone Arsene buys must have something. If Lille are that miffed about it then the guy must have something to offer. |
Maybe this will distract this troublemaker and give us some peace on the Arsenal thread. I couldn't watch Hertha vs VfB today cos of the supercup and the Barca show as usual. |
So na Borat dey borrow pose? You will need double Wildcard to beat me abi you don go borrow one dey pose? ![]() my condolences to Hans Westerhoff, Kaiser Munich's odds have just been shortened. mukina2:It was man against boy. ![]() |
proudly9ja:You are right as to what people want to hear sha, that is where it becomes important for individuals to draw a distinction between the facts and popular opinion. There is an increasing disconnect between the two and unfortunately the media influences us all. It is amazing that the media can create a storm but at the end of it all claim that they were only reporting it all along. ![]() Definitely this season will be exciting, City and Chelsea have made serious statements of intent with Liverpool not far behind, not that Fergie has much more to prove but if he does it this season, he will move up another notch on my respect scale and our new "transition season" should also be an interesting rollercoaster and as an eternal arsenal optimist, I'll still keep believing the boys can surprise us. |
dayokanu:What we bought is future value, we also bought Squillaci for 3m and Joel Campbell for less 1m so you aint saying much. We need to have young English talent coming through and that is how much they go for. This is not the Bundesliga. Besides 15m is still a far cry from the 50m+ that the likes of City, Chelsea, Manure and Liverpool have spent so far in this transfer window. |
debosky:Mesef thought 6m was too small but still Bolton are not professional, maybe they are vexed because they know we won't up the offer too much whatever it is, the fact that they are so vexed to go public means they want to sell sha, they only want to make as much as possible from it knowing we are cash rich. Arsene says negotiations are ongoing so I hope we meet somewhere in the middle. |
