To those idiots saying a whole former chief of defence staff with entourage, are you people blind ni!
Didn't you see the pictures on the front page? He was travelling with a driver! No escorts or anything. Which is how its supposed to be! Someone who has retired from the military should not be entitled to any escorts. Besides this guy stole money meant for troops on the frontline in the North East. He was the chief of defence staff that was responsible for purchasing fake second hand aircrafts that killed 2 pilots. He deserves no sympathy from anyone!

Crime / Re: Alex Badeh Assassinated On His Way To Abuja by duni04(m): 11:22pm On Dec 18, 2018
Badeh was stripped of everything after he was found guilty of stealing from soldiers. All his assets have been frozen. No entitlements or benefits. I doubt if he would have had the resources to manage an entourage of guards. Besides the stigma in the armed forces because he stole the money belonging to soldiers on the war front would have even discouraged himnfrom having soldiers around him.
I have read the disgusting comments on the front page talking about Nigeria being a failed state and all the other rubbish! This man stole billions from soldiers on the frontline. He shouldn't have any sympathisers! Who's to say he wasn't gunned down by an angry soldier or family of a deceased soldier?

Politics / Re: N800bn Subsidy Debt: Oil Marketers Get First Tranche Of N236bn by duni04(m): 10:07am On Dec 18, 2018
theoldpretender:

The problem is getting our refineries working will only mitigate things small...because our refineries fully working cannot meet all our fuel needs (the last one opened in 1988....30 years ago).

Dangote is there...but when it opens,it isn't going to go to full capacity yet...and even at full capacity...it won't meet all our needs.

As for subsidy....here is how it works. Say, I am a seller of shirts. I buy shirts at N2000 each and plan to sell them at N2500,making a profit. Government comes in, tells me to sell my shirts at N1500, and pays me a subsidy of N700 per shirt, giving me a profit of N200...which isn't enough for all my needs, nor does it let me do things like employ more salespeople, or buy shirts more easily.

That is what government has been doing to marketers...and why we ended up with the debt we are paying in the first place...and why GEJ (I am no fan of his) wanted to do something 'irrational' like remove fuel subsidy...because it was not sustainable.

And another thing...back to the shirt analogy....other people wanting to get into the shirt business would see my profit issue...and refrain frominvesting. Had I been allowed to make my profit normally, other people would have been attracted into shirt selling...and eventually prices would vcomedown via competiton.

Subsidy makes investment in the petrol sector difficult...and that includes building new refineries. Why build a new refinery and then sellfuel at a price less than the refining cost from the get go...? (Dangote took loans to get his refinery built...and i doubt he would love to sell at subsidy prices.). That is partly why our refineries are not working well....it isn'tprofitable to run them under subsidy regime.
Bros good analogy but Nigeria stopped paying money as subsidy to those PDP oil marketers in 2016 after that criminal Jonathan left!
These debts that these marketers are claiming are legacy debts that that criminal Jonathan left. He basically paid them billions of dollars for importing nothing! They paid Jonathan back with massive political patronage and donations. That's how the likes of Bamanga Tukur and Arekesola got richer and richer. Thanks to Buhari their cases are still in court.
Back to the subsidy issue, In all oil producing countries of the world, except those in the first world, there will always be debates as to whether the government should subsidise petrol imports so the citizens can enjoy the oil producing status the country enjoys. It's the case in most of the gulf states, Mexico, Libya and even Brazil. Nigeria is not exempt. And it's a very valid argument! People in oil producing countries should not have to pay the same price for petrol as people elsewhere. International finance organisations like the IMF and World bank always preach deregulation and liberalization in these countries because these subsidies that exis in these countries are always fraught with Corruption so the economic benefits of the subsidies do not essentially trickle down to the population. Is it then possible for an oil producing country like Nigeria to practise a regulated downstream oil sector so that it's citizens enjoy the benefits of its oil wealth? The answers yea! The current model we have in Nigeria where the state oil company, NNPC bypasses the fraudulent PDP middle men and imports all the petrol by itself, is working! Though Nigeria may be losing massive revenues inorder to subsidise petrol for its citizens, the benefits can be easily tracked and documented unlike what obtained in the past under that criminal Jonathan.
Even when Dangotes refineries come on board, there will still be that argument as to whether Nigerians should have subsidies by virtue of our oil producing status, or whether we should eliminate them.

That's the legacy they left behind!

Please list examples of people who have joined and escaped persecution or conviction. Please also note that the only 2 ex governors that have been convicted are APC members. Saraki was an APC senator that wanted soft landing in his trial and jumped ship when there was none. Adebayo Akaka thought joining the APP would make his trial for stealing disappear. Same as Orji Kalu. They're thinking otherwise now.

There's something you fail to realise! The APC as it is today is premised on the personality of Buhari. It doesn't stop corrupt elements from joining the APC. Orji Kalu defected to the APC and started singing Buharis praises. All his praise singing hasn't stopped his corruption case in court. Same as Dariye_ that has been convicted and adebayo Akala.
There is no law in the APC or any other parry in the world that prevents anyone from crisscrossing to another party. But the fact is that anyone that crosses into the APC knows that the expectation is that you're whipped in line and must to the path of the party leader, Buhari. If you're nabbed for corruption you should know that you won't get any special treatment by virtue of your membership of the APC.

There's something the PDP specialises in doing. They tell us our problem is in Nigeria's structure. They spend billions arranging conferences and settling tribal elders to solve these "structural problems" while they loot us blind!
See the nonsense conference Jonathan organised where billions was spent settling stupid old men to come and talk about rubbish! The same old men Jonathan eventually gave dollars to for election campaign!
Buhari has been able to prove to us that our problem is accountability and Corruption! Not structural rubbish! Everyone must be held to account!!! Simple! If you're supposed to build a bridge, build it and don't steal the money or award the contract to your friends! Simple!

firstly..those who cause destruction in these 16 years are now in APC.
secondly, PDP themselves could argue about the past 20 years before they took over,or did Nigeria history started in 1999?
thirdly, stop accepting excuses from your failed leaders., the realistic thing is that APC is not going to rule forever, sooner or later another party will take over, should we accept their excuses of lack of performance when they blame APC/Buhari for 4/8 wasted years?
if we keep accepting excuses, then when exactly are we gonna get a good Nigeria?
The 3 @ half years is part of Nigeria history that can never be got back.
I can take excuses, not when it has gotten past the 3rd year, and not when they can't deliver on their own campaigned promise.
Bros I'm not expecting excuses! I'm telling you that you can't build an economy in 3years! The China that that daft was referring to in the debate, they built their economy in 3years? They are enjoying the benefits of the foundation built by chairman Mao and zepeng in the 60s and 70s.
I'm very convinced that with the foundation the APC is laying, economic growth isn't far from is at all. We are actually seeing projects where our money is being spent on! Unlike this locust PDP years where the projects only existed on paper. Nothing was done! Maybe it's because there is no more fanfare associated with commissioning projects as used to be the case in the past.

Bros subsidy was a scam under Jonathan because Jonathan gave the likes of Razak Arekesola and Bamanga tukur millions of $USD to import nothing in the name of subsidy. It was a massive fraud!
Today's subsidy doesn't pay anyone to import anything. The NNPC does 100% of the importation. Nobody is getting any free money again for doing nothing. That's the big difderence.
I bet you the fist thing the Atiku PDP will do if they come in is to strìp the NNPC of sole importation right and start paying people again to defraud Nigeria. I pity anyone that supports those gluttons.
Politics / Re: Throwback:why Buhari Removed Fuel Subsidy – Osinbajo by duni04(m): 3:20pm On Dec 15, 2018
I think a lot of Nigerians are guilty of ignorance in this issue of subsidy. The FG did not increase fuel price to N145. They simply put a cap on the price, above which no marketer is allowed to sell!
Fast forward 2years and the FG through the NNPC is now the only importer of petrol. Why? Because the other importers pulled out because they couldn't get forex to import. Even if they did, they would be selling at a loss because the N145 cap is still there while the price of oil has more than tripled from $30 in 2016 to $60 today. The NNPC is importing petrol at a massive loss and offsets this loss by using NLNG dividends to augment it's books.
The FG cannot transfer the tripled cost of petrol to the people at N220 because it simply won't fly! That is why the NNPC is still taking this loss/subsidy.
This kind of subsidy is very different from the PDP subsidy where there was plenty of forex for marketers to import products, but they would import very little and fraudulently claim they imported millions of litres of petrol or not import anything at all and yet get paid by the PDP led government.
The Nigerian media is very guilty of not letting Nigerians know exactly how this petrol subsidy works and how different it is from the PDP subsidy! This is something that affects everybody's life in Nigeria and judging from the comments here, Nigerians don't know anything about it! It's shameful!
The Nigerian media is complete Junk! I

Journalists are contributing to the shame of corruption in Nigeria. This man is scheduled to be arraigned in court next week. His arraignment date was fixed a long time ago. He knew this!
The EFCC invites him to shed more light in the case preparatory to his arrignment. The first thing he does is call all this fellow journalists and lie that he's been hounded for cyber crimes. And the same journalists that know that this man is scheduled for arraignment next week, go out and put cyber stalking as their headline for Okupe's arrest. Is this just incompetence on the part of our journalists or deliberate mischief?

I think should read through Buhari's reasons for not signing the amended electoral act. Are they tenable and factual reasons? The answer is a big yes! Its ok to criticise the government and even seek for perfection in doing so. But in a very volatile environment like we have in Nigeria, where someone can take someone elses words out of context and use to sstart inciting violence like the PDP is doing, i think she should mellow down and try to be reasonable.

What body language? You are seriously asking me that.
What has buhari done to deal with sections of his military involved in crimes against humanity? Even in the recent shia shooting.
Absolutely nothing.

Your government is culpable and you are sharing the culpability with them by supporting inhumanity.

Trump just pulled out of the ICC. Why?
Because the ICC is holding the US government to account.
So there is no way you can accuse the ICC of hypocrisy.

They have called out nations far powerful than Nigeria. It is not their fault those nations are stronger.

Even then, the US government has done enough in trampling Human Rights violations within its own military.

A lot of soldiers are in American jail for that.

What has Nigeria done?
What has Buhari done? Is this a 19th century kingdom where the king orders for the head of people that commit crimes? I like Buharis style of following procedure and not usurping the roles of agencies saddled with certain responsibilities.
The one i'm familiar with, the killing of Shias in Kaduna. The state government set up a commission to investigate. The commission concluded that the military had the right to react to provocative force from the protesters. Then the arbitrary killings by SARS, the VP started the reform SARS campaign with new rules and a help line to escalate rights abuses.
I'm not saying things are perfect human rights wise. I feel more needs to be done. But the ICC itself has no locus standi to poke it's nose anywhere in this country. The Nigerian human rights commission should be at the forefront of any human rights campaign in Nigeria. Not that dubious ICC.

It is not their fault both nations are superpowers sitting on UN veto powers.

If Abuja did not send people to crimes against humanity- what have they done as punishment?

How has the buhari govt or other past government punished sections of the military culpable in such acts. ?
That is one of the reasons why the leahy law prohibits the US govt from doing any serious military deal with countries like Nigeria.

There is overt and covert culpability at all levels of government.

Have you even listened to the way buhari speaks?
His body language and utterance like a dictator?
How does he speak? What nonsense body language? Has he ordered the military to kill people? What rubbish are you saying?
I'm telling you that the very people who control the ICC and draft laws that seek to whip other countries of the world into submission - excluding themselves, are the primary breakers of these laws. Most countries of the world are mulling pulling out of the ICC. South Africa pulled out, China thinks the ICC is an Western joke, even America was considering pulling out at a point. Yes I have sense. The Russians killed hundreds of Chechnyas during the wars of the 90s and 2001. How many Russian military leaders have been prosecuted? I'm not oblivious of the fact that the Nigerian military is culpable in the deaths of many innocent people. Heck even our police is very culpable. But first of all, these are not state sponsored killings. Nobody in Abuja is telling the military to go out and kill innocent people. No! These killings are due to a complete lack of professionalism in the Military and zero training in handling civil unrest. That aside, in cases where there is state sponsored killing of innocent people like it happens in Chechya and Guantanamo bay where prisoners have been killed after severe torture, how many Russia or American leaders have been prosecuted by the ICC?
