Mogidi: Atiku was customs controller at Murtala Mohammed airport at the time, he has never denied receiving a call from Buhari to let in those 53 suitcases. : Buhari replies Jonathan, explains ‘53 suitcases’ saga (Read 2990 times) mary123 (403) Upcoming (f) | 3 years ago Buhari replies Jonathan, explains ‘53 suitcases’ saga Monday, 21 March 2011 00:00 Nuruddeen M. Abdallah & Yushaú A Ibrahim, Dutse E-mail Print PDF 138Share [General Muhammadu Buhari ] General Muhammadu Buhari The Presidential Candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) retired General Muhammadu Buhari yesterday in Jigawa State described the allegation of corruption levelled against him by the President Goodluck Jonathan campaign team as “nonsense, untrue and unfounded.” The Director, Presidential Campaign Council of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Mike Omeri had in a press statement accused General Buhari of exhibiting double standard in public administration while in government. Speaking to newsmen in Dutse, General Buhari said there is no iota of truth in the entire allegation, adding that “what happened was that, we have a policy during my regime that anybody that comes into the country his/her luggage should be checked at the Airport”. Later in a statement issued by his spokesman, Yinka Odumakin, Buhari said, “Our attention has been drawn to another lousy outing by President Goodluck Jonathan’s ‘Chemical Ali,’ Mike Omeri...who ran to foul the atmosphere with a thoughtless charge that General Buhari is not sincere about his resolve to rid Nigeria of corruption.” He said Omeri’s only evidence to support his assertion is the fabled “53 suitcases” of 1984. Buhari explained thus: “in 1984, the Emir of Gwandu whose son (Almustapha Jokolo) was ADC to General Buhari was returning to the country from overseas. The head of state, on learning of his arrival, asked his son to go and receive him at the airport as they were only playing squash at the time.” “Coincidentally, the Nigerian ambassador to Libya at the time, Dr Tahir Waziri had arrived at the same time with the emir with his three wives and 16 children. They all came with their belongings as he was coming home to take up a new appointment as chief of protocol to the head of state.” “It was the suitcases of the family of 20 that were counted as belonging to the emir and falsely presented to the public. General Buhari has over the years asked those who have questions over the matter to go to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, who was at the head of Customs operations at the airport on the day,” his spokesperson said. Meanwhile, Buhari has asked Jonathan to explain “what happened to the case of N104m seized from Nancy Ebere Nwosu who allegedly swore to an affidavit to the EFCC that she was laundering money for Dame Patience Jonathan.” He also wants the president to explain “the announcement by the then EFCC spokesman, Mr Osita Nwajah on September 11, 2006 that the sum of USD13.5 million was seized from another associate of Mrs. Jonathan which the anti-graft body said belonged to the now first lady.” Buhari says Nigerians need an explanation on “who presided over the FEC meeting on October 2009, where a 4 km runway at Abuja Airport was awarded for N64bn? Whereas, late President Yar’adua was already in Saudi Hospital as at the time!” Also, Nigerians need to know “what happened to the USD30billion Yar’adua left in the excess crude account that is virtually empty now? The spokesperson explained that no amount of cheap blackmail will stop the desired change Nigerians are poised to effect in April polls. |

Mogidi: If Fela broke the law what of the emir of Gwandu with 53 suitcases filled with dollars? Was it because the son of the emir was ADC to Buhari? From what I know, investigations into the alleged smuggling were still going on before Buhari was overthrown. |

Mogidi: You failed in your attempt to interpret what he said, Buhari was on a vengeance because of the song Fela wrote in 1978 criticizing Buhari for the missing $2.5bil stolen under his watch at the petroleum ministry. Did Feel break the law or not? Well according to the judge he did. Buhari stealing whatever and whenever doesn't even count. All those beer parlour conversations people cook up. If someone stole 2billion dollars in 1978, would the person be borrowing money to buy nomination forms in 2014? |

Don't mind those PDP. They think Buhari is like Jonathan that grants presidential pardons to exconvicts and drops corruption cases for political reasons. |

calaway: APC is just full of LIES!! FELA was innocent, Buhari was witch hunting FELA for exposing and writing a song about the 2.8 billion dollars that got stolen while buhari petroleum minister in 1978.
you will pay the penalty for lying against the innocent dead.
This is the TRUTH:- On 4 September last year (1984), minutes before leaving the country for an extensive tour of the US, Fela Anikulapo Kuti was arrested at the airport of Lagos. Fela was supposed to have carried 1600 English pounds with him instead of the maximum amount of 50 that one person is allowed to take out of the country. An accusation that Fela’s defense did not deny but explained by pointing to the 45 people in the retinue of the musician. And 1600 divided by 45 is nowhere near 50pounds it was just that all the money was in his pocket as the leader of the troupe So twas Buharis fault that the judge didn't buy Felas excuse\defence? You're arguing like it was Buhari that tried the case himself and sentenced FELA to prison. |

U mates are busy thinking of how to better their lives and the communities and people around them, you are here insulting a man that has done no harm to the country If e dey pain you too much, why don't you take up arms or a weapon and go to the north and fight boko haram your self. Or better still enlist yourself into the army to assist them? Arsehole I just pray and hope that its not all Nigerians that think like Mr Lurcky else we're in big trouble |

xcolanto: Did you read what you wrote at all? @ bolded.. Your claim there is no security in the north east is outright lies and falsehood!!! Knowing fully well the plot to stop GEJ going to the polls is real so any amount of militarizing is definitely needed. GEJ would be a 'fool' if he doesn't secure his declaration grounds against opposition evil plans. Seriously I give up! If you see nothing wrong with the status quo, where we have terrorists within our borders, controlling entire towns and villages without any military resistance whatsoever, then we truly deserve Jonathan as our president. There's no point calling someone clueless when the people that voted him into office are more clueless than he is. |

xcolanto: Whoever calls GEJ a coward for beefing up security is the lowest of the lowest life! How desperate can people be to come across as daft! If the notherners think they can bomb their homes all year round they shouldn't think they can take it to the capital. If a man is being robbed because his fence is low it's only natural that he increases the fence to protect himself. Opposition party should get a life and not be a cry baby on anything with GEJ's name on it. Its not about beefing up security in Abuja. Its about the morality of sending tanks and soldiers to patrol the streets of Abuja in preparation for Jonathan's declaration when there is no military presence at all in the North East. Its like the soldiers in the North East were even withdrawn and redeployed to Abuja for Jonathan's declaration. |

This is just shameful! Jonathan doesn't seem to care about what's going on in the North east, as long as it doesn't get to Abuja. Its more shameful that the President hasn't deemed it for to address the nation about the violence there since he declared the state of emergency last year. |
