I haven't gotten this low speed before since 5G went live here in Abuja. The minimum i get is 150Mb/s and above.

Now, given that your phone doesn't support band N78(Mid band) and yet getting 5G, however, at very slow speed. This further makes me believe that MTN may have deployed Low-band 5G in addition to its Mid-band 5G.

Yes, all devices that support WiFi 2.4GHz and 5GHz can connect to it.

If 5G isn't available in a location, it automatically steps down to 4G or 3G as the case may be.

Technically, it doesn't support band N78, so it shouldn't work. It's also possible that MTN supports more than one 5G band, but they have only made known of N78 (3500 MHz)

So, are you still getting the 5G network now?

BTW, why is your speed so abysmal?

I recently traveled to lagos but never got 5g reception, even in Ikoyi.

Thought you or someone here said only exynos suffers from the issue of not discovering mtn 5g.

Those whose phone support Google's RCS (Rich Communication Services) and using MTN Sim are the ones receiving those messages.

By the way, MTN now support RCS. With RCS, you can chat using supported text messaging application, like Google messaging app, with other RCS users. This works as an instant messenger using your internet connection, not airtime.

From my observation, it works when the sim is on sim one slot.

This is normal. Only those who pre-ordered are eligible for the Powerpack. However, once the Powerpack is widely available, you will be called to come and get it at the office where bought the router.

This doesn't stop anything. They simply remove the sim and insert it in another phone. Always make sure to set a sim PIN for your Sim cards. That way, when they remove the sim and insert it in a different device, it will ask for the PIN, which they don't know. Thereby, making the sim inaccessible.

On Warri currently 12pro, 12pro max and 13 and I’m yet to see 5g on any of these devices

I don't think it's live in Warri just yet. Or are you getting it on other devices, router or phone?

I bought a UK used s21, apparently its ATnT locked initially but got unlocked
One thing I noticed is that I can't change the network mode (4g, 5g, 3g) it's stuck on 5g
And also there's no Data Toggle on the status bar, I have to go to settings to switch on data
And I can't find the latest OneUI 4 update on it

I'm not directly comparing them as they are fit for their customers, but I just believe for unlimited package, I'll be getting unlimited usage. For 25k you could get 120gb from MTN/Airtel but for 25k you can't get more than 50gb because of the throttle clause from them. I'd like to know if you currently use them so you can enlighten us better

Problem with flashing different regions is that if you aren't careful you might not get security updates as often as you'd want. Mine is even US (Verizon), so I should get the 5G sef.

The SM-S908W is actually the Canadian variant and doesn't support 5G band N78, hence why you may not be getting the 5G signal.
Verizon uses SM-S908U, which is the US variant.

I use SM-S908W. I got 5G the very first day it went live. Got it for a couple more days but it has since reverted to 4G.

I am curious, have you tried flashing a firmware from a different region? Firmwares can be gotten from Sammobile or XDA.

Note that this will help in resolving the challenges of some Samsung devices not getting the 5G network.

Chief, do you know what exactly the issue is with Samsung and Apple phones? those are supposed to be premium brands and they are carrying last casually...lol

The feedback from the MTN network support team is that, some Samsung devices, especially those meant for the Nigerian market, have their 5G disabled via software. As a result, they don't receive the network. That is why some S21, S22 and some other 5G supported Samsung devices aren't working, while some variants of same model are working.

If I owned one of those 5G Samsung devices that support 5G band N78, and yet not getting the MTN 5G in an area where available, what I would do is to flash a firmware meant for a country overseas, say UK, for instance. That should, theoretically, solve it.

Concerning Apple devices, Apple has to whitelist MTN network in order to get 5G working.

The UPS will not be sold separately, they are very few for now, hence only customers who pre-ordered are given for now.
Eventually, it will be widely available and bundled with every router.

For Walk-in customers, your details are taken down, so that when the UPS is available for those who walk-in and buy, you will be notified.

Though some Walk-in customers were erroneously given the UPS when they started selling the routers.

Recent iPhones are known to achieve far more speed than Android, even the likes of S22 ultra.

Just go on YouTube and search for speed test between iPhone 13 or 14 and 22 Ultra.

iPhone 13 and 14 would give you greater speed than even dedicated routers or MiFis if all conditions are the same.

iPhone picture is over saturated and not nearly real life colour. The shadows coming from the 12s makes it more realistic. About the ties, this has to do with auto focus. 12s tends to focus its power on the box rather than the ties. With time you shall understand the camera better.

I'm yet to get a 5G signal in Abuja on my S21+. I've been in several areas that are supposed to have coverage and my phone's 5G bands should cover.

This is a known issue by the MTN network support team, and they are actively working with Samsung to resolve the issue around some Samsung devices (those meant for the African market are the affected ones) not receiving 5G signal. If you buy an S21 plus from the US or UK, you can already be getting MTN 5G on it. Notwithstanding, issues of some Samsung and Apple devices not receiving MTN 5G will be resolved very soon.

5G speed test in my area, even though there is technically no 5G deployment in my area yet. I only get one bar and i have to hang my 5G router on my window to get the one bar.
