Given that you and the other user experiencing abysmal speeds are using the same device, the culprit is most likely the modem of your device.

Some Samsung devices, especially those meant for the African market, are unable to receive the MTN 5G network at the moment.

MTN is in talks with Samsung to resolve it. Apple devices, from Iphone 12 to 13 which are 5G enabled, are also unable to get on the MTN 5G network. This is also being ironed-out with Apple.

However, If you own a Xiaomi, Infinix, Tecno, Nokia, OnePlus and other OEM 5G device, you should already be getting 5G network in locations where available.

MTN 5G is transmitted over band N77 and N78.

The downlink speed is quite impressive. Although they still need to optimise the infrastructure as the pings are too high, which is not good for gamers.

I'm even more impressed with the 100Mbps upload speed, that's very high for 5G.

As for the high ping, it's because the test server is thousands of kilometers away. Try using speedtest.net app and select a local server.

I tested 5G at awolowo road ikoyi yesterday and I got a whooping 732mbps up.... we were able to download a 12gb movie in 11 seconds...

I asked you of your variant for escalation purpose. The communication from the network support team is that some Samsung 5G devices and all iphones from 12 to 13 which are 5G compatible aren't getting the 5G reception at the moment but that will be resolved soon. I know people with S21 ultra that are not getting the reception even up till now.

I stay in Abuja and use a 5G device.

Yet nothing.

I've gotten 5G in Maitama, Asokoro, Gudu, Kubwa. 5G is available in a lot of areas in Abuja. The devices i got the network are Nokia x10 and a ZTE MC801A 5G router.

What phone do you use?

S22 ultra. I've been getting it from the very first day it got launched. Remember it's not everywhere in Lagos, so if you aren't where it's available, you will not get it.

But yeah, Samsung devices (at least the 22 ultra I know of oh) are getting it.

5G requires low antennas almost at every 100 meters from each other. In developes countries, they are found on street lights and artificial trees decorations. Who is going to install that all over Nigeria?

May be they mean getting fast 5GHz internet and not 5G network (or it is marketing tactics to make you change your SIM and pay more). This is not too complicated to understand. For example during the lockdown, London installed it on their streets. It not like one tall antenna like we know but multiple low antennas. "No be one antenna, no be 2 antenna, no be 200 antenna". So they would install all those antenna so you and your friends could tweet faster? It's a small minority that would have 5G phones and I wonder how much that small group can generate for MTN.

There are various types of 5G deployment; Low band, Mid band and High band (also known as mmwave or millimetre wave). The one you are referring to being deployed on London street lights is the mmwave.
The 5G deployed by MTN is the Mid band, NSA or Non-Standalone version, which is transmitted over 3.5GHz. This type of 5G relies on existing 4G core deployment. This is the type of 5G that is deployed in most parts of the world.

By the way, mmwave is very expensive to deploy, hence only a few service providers use it, and it's the fastest 5G type. Even in the US, it's only deployed in a few locations compared to Mid band and Low band.

This is not true. MTN 5G is widely available in Abuja and Lagos as we speak. Did a few speed test using a Nokia x10 even in a location where MTN hasn't even deployed a 5G base station, yet got 496mbps.

MTN is still currently in talks with Apple and Samsung as their devices are not getting the 5G signal. However, if you have a Nokia, Infinix, Tecno, Xiaomi, Oneplus or Oppo 5G device and in a 5G location, you will be getting the 5G signal on your device using a 4G sim.

Is anyone using MTN getting 5G signal on their Poco F4 in Lagos or Abuja?

Please does go money still work? If it does, what is the spend limit per month?

In this scenario, the system disputes the whole amount including the coupon. However, if you eventually win the dispute, only the amount debited from your card is refunded to your card. The coupon amount is supposedly refunded as coupon. But given that your coupon may have since expired, you will not be getting it.

You seem not to even understand the gravity of the situation.
One way or the other people use financial institutions,even if they are poor,be it POS,Momo,etc.
The banks simply allow crediting of the account,but won't allow money to be taken out.
For those they feel their transactions won't pay for the funds they stole,they just send police after them because it's fraud and we are talking of the 2 biggest set of organisations in Nigeria,MTN and the banks,that can easily mobilise the police or EFCC to go after the thieves.
If they can't get back the money,they are charged to court and would be jailed!
You think it's one ₦10k or ₦100k scam against Mr owolabi or Chukwudi we are talking about here where the person would be lamenting and cursing the fraudster only.

The people involved in this fraud didn't really think it through. Otherwise, they would never have gotten themselves involved in it.

What MTN is doing is called 'phased rollout' of its VoLTE service. Tecno Phantom X, Infinix Zero X, and Infinix Zero X Pro and all iPhones from 6 upward and some Samsung phones are supported for now. More devices will be supported in the coming months.

I don't think there is any FTTH provider in Nigeria that has better pricing-to-speed plans than MTN's Fibre To The Home (FTTH) broadband plans.
