Did you study social studies in primary school? Perhaps you may want to go over your text books again to learn more about Nigeria.
Kirri: wait o when did IELTS become 52k? This is extortion from BC if you ask me.....Gosh
Why do you think it is extortion? Is the price different from what is obtainable globally? or is the cost of conducting the examination far less than the charge? I will appreciate if you can let us know why you think they are extorting us. Thank you.
Nairaland and double standard, shey na sexy wear now whereas when someone wore something similar to an event it was titled "see what xxxx wore to an event". What is the difference between this and the other lady that wore a revealing dress? Are they not both end time dresses?
I saw thread about how to survive as a contract staff in the banking industry and couldn’t help but create one for the IOCs.
Not that I know how to survive but anyone working there can educate the house.
I work in a bank but most times I always wonder if it is the same thing in the oil and gas industry. Maybe because I aspire to work there someday.
The discrimination is real! I can’t help but wonder, in all them oil companies is it the same level of discrimination? Is it as bad as it in banks?
The banks discriminate financially, benefit-wise even when it comes to work, the contract staff get a larger share and the worst part is that there is no hope of being converted to a full staff
So i`m calling on those who have worked in the oil and gas sector, please enlighten the house.

I think what they refer to as contract staff in the banking sector is really "outsourced" positions and not "contract" staff in the real sense of it. So those in the banking sector actually work for a different company other than the bank itself. A contract staff strictly speaking is SELF EMPLOYED. But most companies will not directly hire you except through an agency or umbrella company. So the companies pay the agency and the agency in turn remits the money to you after taking their share. Contract staff are often paid more than permanent staff because of the risk (can easily be fired without compensation) and also because it relieves the hiring company of other responsibilities like medical care, insurance (in some cases) and other benefits. You may look at some of those benefits as being "monetised" if you wish. I am currently a staff but wish to be a contractor later except I get into management. When the oil prices were still high, some of my colleagues charged up to £80 per hour. The downside is if you don't go to work (due to sickness or any emergency) you don't get paid for that period whereas a permanent staff gets annual leave and sick leave with pay.
Finally, those "contract" staff that work in the banks need to wake up and demand what is due to them. If you are an outsourced staff, you deserve other benefits including sick leave, pension contribution and other benefits enumerated in our labour laws. Don't let these companies take advantage of you.
Berrylite: I as much as I discourage goading of petroleum products, I condem the action of DPR. This is not constitutional and if the owners of the facility get the mind, they need to go to court and seek redress.
I agree with you that the action may not be legal but they will be the ultimate loser because even if they win in court, DPR can impose a stiffer penalty on the company for violating its license conditions including revocation of the stations' license.
The foreigners were just watching wicked people. Cccc Lalasticlala
You are talking about the foreigners (probably Nigerians who may be illegals), what about the "Italians" who were there? They could have called the police.
Nairalanders and hypocrisy. If it's someone wearing skimpy dress they will shout to the high heavens - indecent dressing. But this one is bikini body abi?
Dragonking: I also complained to seun about this. The mod should read and go through a topic before he decides to carry it to front page...Everything is not about generating viewing traffic.
safarigirl: ^^^^abeg help me talk am. Tomorrow when I say make Seun give me mod work, e go be like say na play, see the incompetent person that posted that rubbish on FP......I swear the thing is still annoying me
You are very sensible. I have advised Seun several times about the attitude of his moderators and a need to train them but they keep posting unverifiable stories on the front page.
2rutalk1: Why are most Nigerians so shallow in reasoning. The Senator said such businesses should be licensed. Now these guys have the skills whereas our government cannot refine the product optimally, why not train them, equip them, monitor them and give them necessary support to become useful in the downstream sector. Some of you should make out time to study the economies of the Asian Tigers to understand how they grew economically. We are selfish in this country honestly.
If they are licensed, they will go out of business because it won't be profitable. The cost of buying crude, lab tests, optimising production, taking care of the environment, salaries etc. All these will bring you to what the government has already done by licensing modular refineries which have not yet taken off.
Vicboi1: To be honest I agree with him because if the legal ones can't provide the product they should register and observe the illegal ones so that they would supply the products it would bring competition to the refineries and everybody would have to seat up somebody once said that if you can't beat the join them the only reason why fg is destroying them is because the oga's are the top are not receiving their own share of the oil money unless they would be working with full efficiency to supply and this issue of fuel marketers would cool down a little
They are in business because they steal their crude. Are you aware of the damage these refineries do to the environment? Do you know that they do not check the quality of their products? DO you know the damage illegally refined products can do to our vehicles? I do not support it because it will not be profitable for the operators, lead to waste of crude oil, damage the environment and also damage our vehicles. Coming from a Bayelsan who should be concerned about the already polluted environment just makes you shudder. I am beginning to belive the saying about Ben murray Bruce: "Looks like Obama, thinks like Obanikoro".
The problem is that there is no sufficient evidence against him. The PA claimed that he gave the money to him in cash while the EFCC claimed to have recovered the money from the PA. So where did the PA get the money from? Did he pay from his pocket? While the CCT chairman can be removed on moral grounds, I don't see how he can be convicted except the EFCC has sufficient evidence that he took bribe.
How much is spent on maintaining the presidential fleet? - We don't know Where did Punch get their estimate from? - based on assumptions and data obtained from COMMERCIAL airlines. Is their estimate correct? - Highly unlikely since commercial airlines spend more on fuel, maintenance and crew.
ican2020: The Federal Government may have spent about N5.8bn on the 10-aircraft Presidential Air Fleet it inherited from the former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, findings by Saturday PUNCH have shown.
The PAF is the third largest fleet in the country, coming after Arik Air and Aerocontractors Airlines which have 23 and 12 aircraft in their fleets respectively.
Other domestic airlines including FirstNation, MedView Airlines, Dana Air, Air Peace and Overland Airways have less than 10 aircraft each in their fleets.
According to calculations done from estimated data obtained from aviation parastatals and domestic airline operators in the country , President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration will have spent about $58.58m (N11.598bn) on running and maintaining the 10-aicraft presidential fleet by May 29 next year when it turns one year in office.
This means that the half of this amount, $29.29m (N5.799bn), is expected to have been spent in principle on the large fleet when administration turns six months in office by November 29.
According to findings, the PAF contains two Falcon 7X jets, two Falcon 900 jets, one Gulfstream 550, one Boeing 737 BBJ (Nigerian Air Force 001 or Eagle One), and Gulfstream IVSP.
Others are one Gulfstream V, Cessna Citation 2 and Hawker Siddley 125-800 jet.
Each of the two Falcon 7X jets were purchased in 2010 by the Federal Government for $51.1m, while the Gulfstream 550 costs $53.3m, a former Minister of Information, the late Professor, Dora Akunyili, had said.
The factory price of other aircraft in the fleet could not be obtained online. However, airline CEOs put the average price of Falcon 900 at $35m, Gulfstream IVSP at $40m, Gulfstream V at $45m, Boeing 737-800 (Boeing Business Jet) at $58m, Cessna Citation at $7m and Hawker Siddley 125-800 at $15m.
This brings a combined estimated value of Nigeria’s PAF to $390.5m (N77.319bn).
According to airline chief executives and industry experts, airlines spend between 15 and 20 per cent of the cost of an aircraft on its operation yearly. They say that averagely, a little less than one-fifth of the cost of the plane is spent every year on insurance, flight and cabin crew, maintenance, fuelling, catering and training.
Using the least figure of 15 per cent, it means that about $58.58m (N11.598bn) will be spent on the presidential fleet (which is valued at $390.5m or N77.319bn) when the new administration turns one year by May 29 next year.
Apparently, by November 29 when it turns six months in office, about half of this amount ($29.29m or N5.799bn) should have been budgeted for the running and maintenance of the planes.
Foolish journalism based on speculation. More foolish are some of the people here who rather than read the article and comment based on the content decide to reach a baseless conclusion. And the nairaland moderator that moved this to the home page with a misleading title. I fear for the future of Nigeria if her young people have no brains of their own but believe everything they read on social media. God help Nigeria.
bezimo: A persons experience defines what the person is competent eneough to manage thats why most jobs now would require experience in a field similar to the job applied. Its the rational logic everywhere in the world. I guess you can compare competence between a Journalist and a professor on the same platform. On what basis, if I may ask you? The professor is clearly more experienced and competent for the role.
Experience is acquired through training, practice and/or research. That he is a professor does not make him a competent administrator. Adamu Adamu, I understand, has researched and written on our educational sector and proffered solutions to some of the problems we have. It is time for him to prove his mettle. If being a professor equates to competence, why didn't the previous professors make an impact in the education sector? Why was Shekarau and Oby made ministers of education when we had "competent" professors? Indeed it is being propounded today in some quarters that the best minister of education we had in our recent history is Oby, where are the professors?
bezimo: HOW NIGERIA ROLLS! Federal Ministry of Education Senior Minister Name: Adamu Adamu Ethnicity: Fulani Profession: ACCOUNTANT and JOUNALIST Previous Position: Columnist with Daily Trust newspaper ********************************************************************** Junior Minister Name: Professor Anthony Anwuka Ethnicity: Igbo Profession: PROFESSOR OF EDUCATION Previous Position: Vice Chancellor, Imo State University DO U STILL WONDER WHY WE LAG BEHIND?? SMH
But am I suprised? when dullado himself without a result is making the appointments. What can one not expect. A journalist heading a professor of Education in the Ministry of Education!!! This is preposterous.
How does being a professor translate to competence?
ujuvals: I dont know if this is the best platform to express myself but i just want to cry out as there is power in the social media. I am a young girl of 27 years. I live with my dad in lagos, lost my mum 10 years ago and have been sustaining the family for a while now as my dad's business collapsed due to some circumstances. I am a graduate and very hardworking, i have worked in few places in the past but i want to say i haven't been lucky. .
Thanks.
No employer should "test" the patience of an employee by withholding his/her salary. Go to the office of public defender in Lagos and let them help you. Add your previous employer as well if they are still owing you.
POTUT: I wonder where these likes came from. It's a shame. This is the mentality we don't need at this time. Fashola is not the cause of the power problem...so why is he there to fix it? Can you answer that?
Try and read in context. He is there to fix the power problem. There's no need asking him not to use generator because he may not even need a generator in the first place as the minister in charge of power. Where does he live in Abuja? Is it a hotel? Are you aware that there are places in Nigeria that hardly experience power cuts? What if the electricity distributor in Abuja decide to prioritise power supply to his house as a minister? (eye service things). All I am saying is he already appreciates the problem and doesn't need that ill thought out advice from Ben Bruce. A power cut to his house/office will even hamper/slow down his work especially now that people are already complaining that six months is gone.
TonyeBarcanista: You have spoken well. If you observe clearly, he REFUSED to appoint state minister in Defence, Interior and FCT despite the fact that these ministries have lots of loads, but he had Northern State ministers in Power, Transport, Trade and Investment and National Planning. Perhaps to check-mate the substantive ministers. He also had a Southerner to Deputise another in Niger-Delta Affairs ministry despite the fact that the ministry is overrated.
That guy is a threat to democracy
Of what material benefit are those positions to the North that the president will want to keep it for the North alone? Mind you the era of looting is over if your thinking is that the defence budget will be squandered like in the past.
I was sceptical at first about the role the VP will play in this regime but I must confess that I am impressed so far. The man is working, albeit behind the scenes, to put our economy back on track. I don't think the OPs conclusion about the VP is correct.
