I have forgotten the name of the company, but apparently they have been in business for a few years. |

Firefire: As much as I agreed with your line of thought, I want to ask you, how much more or low will Naira exchange for USD before it is deemed to be at "appropriate level of market forces" ?
FG was subsidizing Naira at 155/$ as of Oct. 2014, before the devaluation of about 27% at current rate of 197/$.
Yet, Naira keep depreciating, don't you feel the government need to Re-approach her existing monetary policies ? \ The simple answer is I don't know. But I know the slide is temporary and due to current low oil prices and our failure to plan for times like this. China is also devaluing her currency to stay competitive but there is a limit. |
Business › Re: Naira Finally Crashes To 260 Per Dollar, Its Lowest In 42 Years by dustydee: 10:37am On Dec 12, 2015 |
Firefire: I was charged 225N / USD today for international online transaction .
We are getting closer to Dangote's prediction of 500/$.
May God deliver Nigeria and Nigerians. lMaybe not that low, but I think the government should allow the naira to drop to the appropriate level based on market forces as seen on the parallel market rather than defend the naira at N197 to the dollar. Our low reserves will not support the naira at the current rate for long. Nigeria should start diversifying the economy to earn more foreign exchange in the face of low oil prices. |

AmNotADullard: Plenty of thanks to you sir, Intellectually, I am far of better than so many of my peers, I read lots of things, articles, whereas they limit themselves to just 'chatting', but then, if in exams things still get awful, what use is my intellect, I figured my reading technique long long ago, and have been 'upgrading' poco a poco it, but still...nothing seems to be happening. My last semester, I have never deprived myself of such amount of sleep in my life, but still people that didn't read in my own view are performing better. In addition to what you are currently doing, also try to understand what each lecturer wants. Learn what the "style" of the lecturer is, ask those ahead of you what some lecturers require (beware of negative comments and concentrate on how to get the best out of the lecturer no matter how wicked people say he/she is). Sometimes it is not so much about knowing something but presenting the way the lecturer wants. Your performance may also be affected by your depression. You need to take your mind off your problems. Go out more, make a few friends, socialise more, become more involved in fellowship. |

nairalander2015: Good day nairaland. As I write this... I am depressed, simply depressed.. If suicide led to heaven mayb i would have been a victim. Truly itz nt everyone who smiles that is happy. MY story I was born into a deeper life family 20yrs ago.. And I can say i regret being born into deeper life.. I would ave preferred been converted there than being born there. My travails started in secondary school.. Wen i failed to attend a fellowship, my mum talked harshly, slapped me an said i was a dishes disgrace.. Just because i failed to attend a school fellowship.. And I knew that I wasn't a bad kid.. Jes the gentle type.. Since then it has been bad... When others celebrate their mum.. I can't.. I am as far from my parents as anything.. Jes because they are deeperlifers.. I can't seat comfortably with my parents.. Cos of principles. Next was the battle concerning trousers.. She woke me up one black night with a thundering slap over a slim trouser.. Imagine dat was @16.. I cried and cried dat day.. Dat God made a mistake borning me in deeper life... Jes because i walked with a girl.. She banned me from going out.. Even at a young age... Threatened me that she"ll disown me if I marry a lady who wears wigs, trousers.. Omg.. Now.. I am in the university.. I never want to go home. I hate home.. I am depressed.. So so depressed.. My dad didn't send me any cash for a month cos a friend told him I failed to attend a midweek service.. Imagine.. Yet i am not rebellious. I know fellow guys like me who had big problems with their children but they were rebellious.. But i am not I feel depressed writing this.. Spirituality without love is a disaster.. Aw i wish i wasn't born to a deeper life's family.. Itz a curse.. I am tired.. Itz threat all the time. I am not close to my parents.. Imagine.. Seems i should just die.. I now see my mum as a enemy.. Anytime i see her i am sad.. Talks too much about simple things in a bad manner quoting Bible over needless things.. Watching ball outside is a sin.. Visiting friends is a nono.. Cos they are highly placed in the church.. Yet no one to share my burdens with.. So sad... Yet they think i am happy..i know many out there experience something similar but are helples.. Oh God have mercy on me.. Itz calamitous to be the child of a fanatic especially if you don't wanna be a fanatic also.... Advice pls.. What can I do? So so depressed.. Feel like dieing to be reborn elsewhere Are you sure you are in the university? I could barely read and understand what you wrote up there. |

zibi2: We would like you to come to our aid and intervene in the situation in a spirit of solidarity. What we demand in addition to addressing the highlighted issues are:
OER to render an unreserved apology to affected staff for treating them with indignity; That the severance package be reviewed to an amount obtainable in companies that have retrenched staff recently especially where the staff are unionized. At least four years’ gross pay would be acceptable; OER to agree in writing that, should oil price return to at least $50/bbl, the affected staff who are still available would be reinstated since performance was not the basis for the pruning down exercise; OER to maintain benefits due to staff throughout their search for another job; OER to promise in writing not to victimise staff once the business fortunes reverse and staff are to be reabsorbed; PENGASSAN to mandate OER to establish Union in the organization; Most of these demands are not realistic especially for a company like Oando. They have not done this exercise the proper way but you cannot ask them to retain your services when they do not have the means to support it. Would you rather work for free? Because if they start owing you salaries now you will be the first to complain. But the compensation should be higher. They could have also given the staff an option of pay cut. |
Career › Re: OANDO Staff Appeal For Support And Urgent Intervention In The Mass Sacking by dustydee: 10:48am On Dec 10, 2015 |
Wow. The national assembly needs to pass a law on how companies can conduct redundancies like this. The businesses are there to make profit but must do so with a human face. In the UK for example "If your employer is planning to make 20 or more employees redundant within a 90-day period, your trade union, or elected employee representative if you don't have a union, should be consulted before anyone is given notice." Additionally, the government pays a stipend to employees that qualify even though it is not compulsory for the employer to pay. Nigeria can have something similar that compels employers to pay severance packages to employees who are made redundant for no fault of theirs and to give adequate notice so that you don't just wake up one morning to find out that your job is gone. They should at least give you time to plan for the immediate future. |

The letter have been served. I know they will not go back on their decision because my issue gives them sleepless night. They're are constantly on my case.
Thanks for your contribution. I feel a little better. They should deduct from those over paid and credit those underpaid. Is that difficult? For those who may have left the company, the bank can be asked for a reversal. If you are responsible for preparing the payroll, this you can easily do right? More so I do not think you will have a lot of discrepancies for most of the staff. |
