PHILipu1:The guy was most probably not in his correct state of mind when he wrote what you responded to. Otherwise he has truly lost his mind. The only other way IMHO to look at it is that the guy wrote satire, which is then perfect. After all, that crowd-pulling, PhD holder whole local Bishop himself wrongly characterized Olatunji Dare's satire on Nnamdi Kanu's infamous 'Jubrin from Sudan' fantasy. ........ P34c3 ..... ... |
Muttee:Mr. Oshiomhole is right on this issue. For one thing, those two governors don't have the party machinery or the political movers and shakers in their states behind them, at least for the time being. Secondly, the Chief Executives of states (read: Governors) can no longer control the Resident Electoral Commissioners in their states, unlike what obtained in the recent past, including in some states such as with Ms Khan in Rivers state up through April of 2015. Third - and most important - governors no longer commandeer the instruments of coercion and security apparatuses in their states. For the above reasons and some other, those governors who've never learned the art of door-to-door campaigning and carrying the people along, are essentially toast going forward, especially for the 2019 elections. IMHO, love him or hate him, Oshiomhole is doing a fantastic job for their party, the APC, and it will show during future elections, just as it contributed in the official outcomes of the several elections held under his watch as his party's National Chairman so far. ........ Why can't people already flagged as corrupt just lie low and not keep playing macho/front line politics? One would think by lying low, they stand a better chance of enjoying their supposed loot? Or if they're not looters, have a better chance at a peace of mind by lying low? Are they cursed without they knowing it? ........ P34c3 ..... ... |
Paul Usoro Picked Up Two Days Before His First NEC Meeting As NBA President Usoro's arrest came two days before he presides over his first National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting as President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) on Thursday. by SaharaReporters, New York Dec 04, 2018 https://secure.saharareporters.com/sites/default/files/styles/normal_medium/public/Paul%20Usoro.jpg?itok=L9T3cTCw Paul Usoro, President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), was arrested on Tuesday in relation to multiple corruption allegations, SaharaReporters has been told. However, he was released on bail and has been charged to court. Usoro's arrest came two days before he presides over his first National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting as President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) on Thursday. He emerged NBA President in August following an election that one of his opponents said was characterised by “corruption, massive vote buying, vote capture, rigging and a skewed process”. Earllier in November, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had narrated Usoro’s alleged role in how the sum of N1.7 billion was withdrawn from the Akwa Ibom State government’s accounts and diverted for personal use. In a statement of defence filed before the Federal High Court in Uyo and seen by SaharaRepoters, the commission indicted Emmanuel Udom, Akwa Ibom State Governor; the Accountant General of the state, Uwem Sunday Andrew-Essien; Commissioner of Finance, Nsikan Linus Nkan; one Margeret Thompson Ukpe and a company, Paul Usoro & Co.[block] In August, the anti-graft agency had placed a freeze order on all bank accounts controlled by the Akwa Ibom State government, leading to the filing of a N50 billion law suit against the commission by the Attorney General of Akwa Ibom State. However, in its response, EFCC said it acted within the purview of its enactment act that empowers it to place a stop order on any account suspected to be involved in any crime. It said on March 10, 2016, the sum of N700 million was withdrawn in cash from the state’s Accountant General’s imprest account. EFCC stated further: “That out of the said N700,000,000.00, the sum of N300,000,000.00 was deposited in cash to the Zenith account No. 1014604466 belonging to Paul Usoro & Co on the 14th of March, 2016 without any contractual relationship between Akwa Ibom State and the said Paul Usoro & Co. “That the 1st defendant (EFCC) invited Paul Usoro (SAN) who volunteered extra judicial statement confessing that the said N300,000,000.00 was his professional fees for handling Mr. Udom Emmanuel’s personal matter before the election tribunal. That the remaining N400,000,000.00 was also diverted to private use. “That in similar vein, the total sum of N1,100,000,000.00 was also removed from the Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Justice account No. 1011191486 domiciled in Zenith Bank Plc and lodged in the Paul Usoro & Co’s account number 0690123425 domiciled with Access Bank Plc without reasonable justification." The anti-graft agency claimed that out of the N1.1 billion, Uwemedimo Thomas Nwoko received a kickback of N65million from Paul Usoro.[block] The Akwa Ibom case is not the only bribery allegation against Usoro. In October, the National Judicial Council (NJC) asked President Muhammadu Buhari to dismiss two judges after they were investigated and found to be guilty of corruption allegations brought against them by the EFCC. The affected judges were Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia of the Federal High Court and James Agbadu-Fishim of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria, who had been in the news for at least two years for allegedly receiving bribe from Usoro. NBA’s NEC meeting holds on Thursday (arrival on Wednesday and departure on Friday) at the NBA Auditorium, NBA House, Plot 1101 Muhamadu Buhari Way, Cadastral Zone A00 Central Area, Abuja. Attendance is restricted to only statutory NEC members, who are the national officers, past presidents, past general secretaries, branch chairmen, branch secretaries, branch NEC representatives, and chairmen and secretaries of sections. Court gives EFCC, SSS, Police 72 hours to arrest Diezani December 4, 2018Press Release https://i0.wp.com/media.premiumtimesng.com/wp-content/files/2017/08/Diezani-Alison-Madueke1-e1444333146952.jpg?w=1024&ssl=1 Former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke Justice Valentine Ashi of a Federal Capital Territory High Court, sitting in Apo, Abuja, on December 4 ordered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, the Nigerian Police Force, the Department of States Security Service and all other security agencies to apprehend and arrest a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke within 72 hours. The order was made, following a motion ex parte made before the court by counsel to the EFCC, Msuur Denga, praying for an order of the court, to issue a warrant of arrest against Mrs Alison-Madueke, to enable the Commission apprehend and arraign her for alleged financial crimes in Nigeria. The EFCC investigated the former minister along with Jide Omokore, a former Chairman, Atlantic Energy Drilling Company, following a petition dated October 2, 2013, from Coalition Against Corrupt Leaders, CACOL, bordering on money laundering and official corruption. EFCC said in a statement that investigations into the petition revealed that Mrs Alison-Madueke as supervising minister of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, was found to have engaged in illicit and monumental fraudulent dealings in oil transactions, which she entered into on behalf of the Federal Government. Mrs Alison-Madueke and Mr Omokore are also alleged to have accepted and given gifts in properties located at Penthouse 22, Block B, Admiralty Estate, Ikoyi, and Penthouse 21, Building 5, Block C, Banana Island, Lagos. They are to be arraigned on February 25, 2019 on a five-count charge for the offences, which are contrary to Sections 26(1) of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000. When the matter came up on Monday the Commission however filed application for warrant of arrest, condition precedent for Mrs Alison-Madueke’s extradition protocol to bring her back home to face trail. The prosecution told the court that Mrs Alison-Madueke, who is currently in the United Kingdom, jetted out of the country while investigations into the alleged fraudulent acts were ongoing. The court today, granted the ex parte motion, and ordered the security agencies to provide Mrs Alison-Madueke within 72 hours, for her to face the charge preferred against her. “The Inspector General of Police, the Chairman of the EFCC, the Attorney General, the Department of State Services, are hereby ordered in the name of the President, Federal Republic of Nigeria to apprehend and arrest the first defendant and produce her before this court for further directives within 72 hours,” the judge held. BREAKING: SaharaReporters Floors Saraki At Appeal Court... N4bn Judgement Overturned The Appeal Court judges — Honourable Justice Ibrahim Mohammed Musa Salauwa, Honourable Justice Chidi Nwaoma Uwa and Honourable Justice Hamma Akawu Barka — unanimously ruled that the judgment be nullified and assigned to a new trial judge at the lower court for a retrial. by SaharaReporters, New York Dec 04, 2018 https://secure.saharareporters.com/sites/default/files/styles/normal_medium/public/Saraki%20%281%29.jpg?itok=JKJl3ghH The Court of Appeal in Ilorin, Kwara State, has nullified the lower court’s judgment that awarded a N4billion cost as sum of damages against SaharaReporters and its founder, Omoyele Sowore, in a suit between the two and Bukola Saraki, Nigeria’s Senate President. On Tuesday, the Appeal Court set aside the judgment of Justice A.S. Oyinloye of the Kwara State High Court in Ilorin delivered on June 28, 2017. The Appeal Court judges — Honourable Justice Ibrahim Mohammed Musa Salauwa, Honourable Justice Chidi Nwaoma Uwa and Honourable Justice Hamma Akawu Barka — unanimously ruled that the judgment be nullified and assigned to a new trial judge at the lower court for a retrial. The account of Sahara Reporters Media Foundation, a Non Governmental Organisation, was garnisheed in a suit between SaharaReporters, an online citizen journalism news website, and the Senate President even though the foundation was never named in the suit, neither is it a news publishing platform. Justice Oyinloye had entered a judgment of N4billion against SaharaReporters and its founder, Omoyele Sowore, over allegations of defamation involving Saraki. However, the judgment was used to obtain a garnishee order against the foundation, a separate entity. Sometime in 2017, Saraki had sued SaharaReporters and its founder to the tune of N1billion each as general damages for four different publications on SaharaReporters. He also sought the court “for injunction restraining the Defendants from further writing, printing or causing to be written, printed or circulated or otherwise published of the Claimant, the said or similar libel". However, Stanley Imhanruor, a senior lawyer from Falana & Falana’s Chambers, who represented SaharaReporters at both the High Court and the Appeal Court, argued that his clients were never served in the motion on notice neither were they given an opportunity to defend themselves during the hearings that led to Justice Oyinloye’s judgment. Paul Erokoro, Saraki’s lead counsel, had claimed in court that he could not serve the counter affidavit on the counsel for SaharaReporters because there was no address for service within the court’s jurisdiction. He argued that he had no obligation to serve counsel directly unless the court ordered him to do so or if he sought the court’s leave to serve counsel directly. Imhanruor contested this argument, stating that his chambers had sent one Adams Adebara to the chambers of Tunde Olomu & Co to pick up the counter affidavit, to no avail. He told the court that, rather than give the document to Mr. Adebara, the chambers rudely dismissed him. He explained to the court that Saraki’s lawyer had asked Adebara, who was to collect the counter affidavit, to meet with him on the premises of the court so that the bailiff could serve him, but Erokoro failed to deliver on his promise. He told the court that multiple calls to Erokoro were ignored. The case was, however, withdrawn from the lower court, having lost faith in the process and an appeal filed at the Court of Appeal. The protracted case had taken several turns before the eventual judgement of the appeal court. In one of the hearings at the Federal High Court in Ilorin, journalists and student activists who had gone to court to observe the hearing were harassed by alleged loyalists of the Senate President. Reporters from CoreTV, AIT News, and ChannelsTV who were in court to cover the proceedings were harassed and their cameras seized. They were also forced to erase footage of the court proceedings and the assaults that took place in the premises of the court. The touts, perceived to have been supporters of the Senate President, also assaulted a middle-aged woman, Funmi Jolayemi Ajayi, stripped her naked and beat her. Ajayi, a civil society activist, had travelled from Lagos to observe the court proceedings in Ilorin. salford:Exactly. I wrote the following elsewhere: "Amosun is in fact hiding behind a finger by insisting on he being on the same ticket/ballot day with Buhari. Amosun knows very well that if he's on any party's ticket other than that of the APC on the day Buhari is on the APC ballot, he (Amosun) cannot guaranteed himself the win to the senate seat he's contesting for. Amosun has no liver to leave the APC as that party presently operates in the South West. Simple." ........ P34c3 ..... ... |

It's easy and convenient for some to forget that Jonathan did all in his power to stop the use of the Card Reader, once he realized it was going to drastically curtail classical rigging methods of the past 16 years prior to 2015. Those rigging methods include acts such as thumb printing of multiple ballot papers by single individuals, stuffing of ballot boxes with phantom ballot papers, and writing of fake voting results in the homes of mostly PDP's bigwigs and passing those results as official outcomes of elections. Those were some of the things even Yar'Adua himself acknowledged were prevalent in the election process that brought him to power. And Jonathan wanted to continue with them? By God's grace, this our Obodo Nigeria will never go back to that dark age of blatant election rigging. Enough is enough. ........ P34c3 ..... ... |
