We should also understand that sometimes news like this are released very close to an event to distort the mind set of the public towards the possible out come of an event.
Thank you.

Getting convictions in corruption cases are notoriously difficult. A one day old law graduate will tell you that. It's simply because of the doctrine of law Nigeria as a country has chosen to adopt - where the onus of proof lies on the accuser to prove. You are innocent until proven guilty. In some climes, it's the other way round, where you are assumed guilty until proven innocent.

I think this case will also be thrown out like a lot other stories like it simply because the efcc have a history of bungling cases. And believe me it's not about PDP/APC factor. Remember Saraki worked? The whole of Kwara state knows Bukola did not inherit that kind of money he spends.

So in order to mold the common man's opinions, people with vested interest start sponsoring stories around events like this whether true or not.

Let's change our criminal laws (especially financial crimes) to guilty until proven innocent and you'll begin to see more convictions, because thieves and embezzlers will then have to prove how they got their money.

Honestly it's all fake news designed to embarrass prof and to pit him against his boss, which appears to be the strategy of those opposed to his potential emerging as the next presidential candidate. I spoke at length with Bode yesterday, it's all made up news.

However their's a set of people who want the news to be true by all means, so that they can use it to justify their position on the Yoruba and/or the VP. When you tell them it's fake news, they say no smoke without fire etc. Well if you're in that category, I'm sorry I can't help you.

Pastor Indeed.
In what way is the vice-president muscling the press? Did he send soldiers or police or even the dss after these fake news broadcasters? He did the right thing by briefing his lawyers who took on the case. If there was any substance to the story or the media has any proof to their story, do you think they'd quickly apologize as they have done?

People are just impossible. Imagine the story that would have gone round if the professor had kept quiet and not responded to the fake news. Otherwise people who have no competence and are obviously of bigoted mindset will ruin his life's work.

The boss who made the tribal slip at the time was Ochereome Nnanna, chairman of the editorial board. It's no wonder he lost the position, but it's obvious from the FIRS story that they still have incompetent journalists running the place.

APCHaram:
This is total nonsense.

As stupid as this govt is, this policy of easing on borrowing is not a bad idea towards stimulating investments and consumer spending. The only thing the CBN has to do is reduce lending rates so as not to over inflate the economy.

These useless banksters have double standards when viewing developing and western economies.

The Federal reserves has a 0% lending rate for banks and loan rates are hovering at no more than 3% and 15% for business and consumer loans respectively.

Buhari is a dunce, agreed but these jew rat banksters need to be ignored.
My thoughts exactly. Very soon, a lot of uninformed jobbers will jump on the back of this uningenious idea to castigate the federal government, for the simple reason that they hate Buhari. In their own countries, almost every body has a credit card. Any sensible body knows that lack of access to finance by Nigerian msmes has contributed in no small way to a stagnation of the Nigerian economy. Finally the central bank is forcing greedy and shyllock banks, (who ordinarily declare huge profits at the end of each financial year), into lending more and the likes of Fitch are not happy about it. They must be mad in that place.

I'm not looking at it in feminist light.

Her connection might have helped but if she murdered him because he was abusing her, she does deserve some mercy
And you deserve pity. So you justify her very early release on the basis he might have been abusing her? God have mercy! So who told you he was abusing her? Also self defense did not come up in the case because, then you might have a point. She did murder him, and from facts it was premeditated. However the murder rap couldn't stick, maybe due to the quality of her representation or official cover-up. Remember the prosecution are her colleagues in Oyo state ministry of justice. But at least a manslaughter conviction was upheld. She ought to have been made to serve out her sentence, as repudiation for her actions and justice for the deceased.

If the role were reversed, would feminists like you be saying that he deserves mercy?

Meanwhile, many closet rapists and rape apologists on this thread.
When it hits close to home, people's tune will change. A woman just confided in her family 33years after she was raped. Her brother was initially saying Busola shouldn't have waited 20years, until she shared her own experience. Another man was blaming Busola and saying they should have forgiven as Christians till his 14year old daughter bursted out that Uncle has been doing the same to her. Uncle has been arrested by the police now and the man is distraught because his own baby was violated.
Who says their life must stop? Discretion is the better part of valour. Taking and appearing in such pictures flaunted around the internet, shortly after Busola only serves to create an already established impression in the minds of a lot of people that they are in this for cheap publicity and blackmail. And by the way it is many of those who purport to support Busola that are the closet rapists and rape apologists. Many are shedding crocodile tears. In any case, my post has nothing to do with support or otherwise for either party. I just find it rather in bad taste that they'd milk this particular case and try and trend on social media.

asuustrike1:
This is pure psychology to suppress an individual in the name of respect. What did the Prof did was wrong in all ramification hence using this cheap blackmail to score a point isn't right. This gives room for other persons to continue with same thing which becomes a norm. Many will use this parameter to suppress younger ones because they have grey hair. There are instances were you consider the aged. For example you politely ask an old man that he is sitting on your sit and he politely tells you to allow him seat considering his condition. In this case you should just move to the next sit because you considered his attitude and response to the situation on ground. However when you do same thing to another in the same age bracket and the response result in pomposity then it might result to quarrel. Forget the fact that he is old, many wouldn't take it likely with him. This attitude is exhibited by many old men claiming to be right. Someone persons on this forum condemning the young man for confronting prof( if the story is true) shows that they can be easily suppressed and blackmailed. Seats are allocated on planes and buses to solve issue of this nature. When you follow due process you are respected more instead of hiding on the notion of culture and norm to suppress an individual. Some persons even said that the young man lacks home training without considering his feelings at all. This is what many politicians do in Nigeria when they hide on religion or culture to commit an actrocity.
Obviously you lack understanding in certain areas. You try to equate the physical abilities of the aged to that of younger people by insinuations. It's only until recently that I also, began to appreciate the respect and cultural considerations that the African society accords their aged. My mother will be 80 this year and the physical and mental transformation she's gone through in our eyes sometimes just beggars belief. I often wonder how a vibrant, sometimes aggressive bundle of energy can be so transformed. It's even worse if they also have mental challenges in addition, as remembering things and being easily confused are normal traits in the aged. It will happen to us all at some point if we grow to a ripe old age. Sadly being a celebrated literary icon and Nobel laureate does not exempt you. If you consider that the erudite professor is 84 years, you might excuse the fact that mistook his seat for another or needed a more comfortable one. Whichever it is, we can't situation the physical and mental abilities of the aged with the young and for that reason alone, culture and tradition notwithstanding, showing them respect and considerations is wisdom.

Please how will this provide jobs in a sustainable manner?
Thanks
Ignorance is indeed the worst form of poverty.

I really don't have your time to explain too much, but let me give you a few pointers.

*There'll be direct employment of more railway workers - drivers, ticketing staff, cleaners for the coaches etc, administration staff, engineers, IT people etc. This is going to be replicated at all stations/stops, so my small list is by no means all encompassing.

*Then indirect jobs - where do I start? - commercial activities around train stations, ordinarily will employ thousands, contractors working for NRC. Printers who would print tickets, the efficiency in moving goods and services inland Nigeria will create better efficiencies and hence more jobs etc, etc.

Think of what the GSM had done in terms of job creation? Something similar awaits. That's why we need to build infrastructure. Any leader willing to do that gets my vote.

PoliticsRe: National Assembly Leaders’ Elections: Management Picks Secret Poll, by DuxofMen: 9:43am On Jun 09, 2019
Does this headline make sense?

How can they use secret voting when, according to the same report, it's not the standing rule? They even attempted to make Saraki and Dogara change the rule at the last minute but it didn't happen, so all of a sudden, who has changed the rules? This is not only lazy reporting but senseless as well.

Just read below;

"A senior member of the management team of the federal parliament told one of our correspondents on condition of anonymity on Saturday that the elected lawmakers had already been given House Rules stipulating the voting method.

He said, “There were attempts to amend the rules of both chambers to give room for a secret ballot but the idea was frustrated by the outgoing leadership.

“I’m aware that advocates of the secret ballot method mounted pressure on the outgoing Senate President, Bukola Saraki, and Speaker, Yakubu Dogara, and stressed the need to amend the rules in line with the global practices.

“There is no way management will come up with a voting method different from what is contained in the rule book distributed to elected members since April.”

Also you have die hard people like Omo Agege insisting that secret voting is not in the rules. Any attempt to use secret voting may cause big trouble o. Hence I'm afraid with the open thing, APC will still be able to manipulate their lawmakers and ultimately have their way.

What is wrong with that? If there were serious issues where Pdp won let it be looked into also. I’m not a stupid zombie for any one. I’m talking about a credible process for everyone.
If you don't know let me tell you. Nigeria's elections have always been fraught with irregularities. No be today. Even the so called credible elections of 2015. Only difference is that there's more awareness and medium for sharing such awareness. More people are on FB, Nairaland, twitter, whatsapp etc. But to generally discredit the process and say we're going back to the dark days because the candidate you support lost is nothing but sour grapes as far as I'm concerned. Between 1999-2015 pdp has a history of manipulating and even writing results. Until we can have a higher level of elections, we are not likely to have a perfect process but to discredit the entire process simply because your candidate lost? Haba.

Let me tell you, in the south whilst a lot of people didn't vote (I know of at least 3 who didn't, despite that they have pvcs), the talakawas trooped out enmass to vote in the north and they all mostly voted for Buhari. You're free to do make your research. Whilst most of you armchair chancers were busy analysing on the internet, Buhari's marchers were on the ground in most parts of the north going from hut to hut teaching old and young people, especially the illiterate ones how to thumb print, especially unto the space beside the broom. These people had been sensitized and mobilized for months to vote in a particular way. The results have now shown and we the so called elitist south are complaining. Fa fa fa foul!

Next time there's elections, mobilise your young ones who'd rather play football on the empty streets to go and exercise their civic duty.

Your writeup is in good faith, if you believe in getting it right in Nigeria, you should stand up against injustice and broad day light robbery.

Development devoid of openness and equity cannever be welcomed by all. If the will of the people is continually suppressed, where lies the patriotism of a common Nigerian? If change only begins with you, but your leaders look the other way when integrity calls for them to exhibit same act of sincerity, what then spurs you to bieve in such system?

By what we are seing, a seed of disunity, disobedience to laid down rules, wanton pettiness to National course and unpatriotism has been planted judging from a shameful display by the constituted authorities towards willful suppression of the will and voice of ordinary Nigerians.

It is not enough to keep preaching peace when victory bought by disobedience to rule of law, oppression and denial of fundermental franchise pervades.

Think!
These are what you see. But my friend you should open your eyes more, because I see different.

I see a judicious and equitable utilisation of Nigeria's resources to bring about infrastructural development to the country. I see a country where finally Nigeria's money will be spent on Nigeria and not just the generality of Nigerians but that all Nigerians must feel the impact of government spending. Not where a few will corner the riches of the country and go and hide it in US, EU, Uk, Dubai etc. And by the way more looters will be uncovered and return our stolen patrimony. Tradermoni and marketmoni to get bigger

I see an expansion of the social intervention programs nothing of which any other government had done before, where 9 million school children are fed daily, where there's conditional cash transfer to the poor, where even old biafran soldiers and police got paid their entitlements that had been denied them for decades, where all owed benefits of retirees and promises of government (for instance to victorious golden eglets) etc, were paid by this government. Remember some of these promises were made over 30years ago.

I see a Nigeria where all of us will begin to live within our means. This will direct our collective psyche to re-recognize corruption as exactly what it is.

As we consolidate going forward, our economy will experience true and genuine growth. Not the paper growth it had experienced in the past. Massive infrastructural development that can only engender this true economic growth is what will happen because this government will not squander Nigeria's money or allow kleptomaniacs near our resources. Watch out for more rail development from Calabar to Lagos, Port Harcourt to Maiduguri etc, The Mambilla power project which 16 years of pdp rule couldn't complete, the second Niger bridge nko? Ongoing road rehabilitation etc. (Chei shame to enemies of progress).

Critically, importation of refined petroleum products will soon stop and the good news is that more dollars can be saved as a result. My guess is that the Naira may begin a slow but steady road to appreciation. Happy days ahead.

God bless the federal republic of Nigeria.
