Food / As A Chef, How Do You Get And Service Customers? by duyilekan98(m): 5:55pm On Jun 18, 2022
It’s obvious that finances (capital), reach (to reach as much potential customers as possible), servicing (get packaging, organize quality delivery) are still legitimate problems chefs face in building a self-owned thriving business. So chefs how do you automate those processes, so you can focus on what really matters, which is creating amazing meals?

Food / Had Enough Of Just Liking, And Commenting On, Food Posts On Social Media? by duyilekan98(m): 11:40pm On Feb 01, 2022
Would you like a platform that gives you an option to experience high-end meals posted by your favorite chefs on social media, by ordering and having it delivered to your doorstep? If that’s an option you would like to have, then check out https://soulfood dot web dot app for more information. Let’s show you how!

If you ever have any of these thoughts:

1. I’m tired of eating the same things all the time. Where I can I find and try new food options?
2. These chefs be making my mouth water anytime I’m on social media. I would like an option to have those meals from the comfort of my home.
3. Thinking about what to eat all the time is tiring.
4. I don’t want to have to go to a restaurant anytime I want a decent high-end meal.
5. Are you a chef, and you want more out of social media than likes and comments on your posts?
6. Are you a chef looking to leverage the power of social media to establish and grow a thriving self-owned profitable business.

I am following a JavaScript tutorial in which the tutor runs a similar code as below. It's supposed to create a new property called age and set the value to (2022 - birth year).
Apparently, mine outputs undefined.

Anyone with an idea why?

First of all, there’s no object property called age, so what is this.age referencing?

In my example I create an object profile with some properties. I set age to 0, so I can calculate based on current year which I would be passing as a parameter in the calcAge function or method(a method is an object property that has a function).
Initially when I check the value of property, age is set to 0. But when I run profile.calcAge(2022), you can see the age changed to 24.

Who cares if it's beautiful out not as long as it works am ok. But what I have a problem with is the servers. Registering for anything in this country is a way especially when large amount of people want to do the same. Take NYSC registration for example, that stuff is a pain in the Ass. Back then when I was still in UNI just to click for accomodations is war because the server is to slow, it may take to up to 6 hours before you can even click anything. Gosh this is so annoying and yes they have the money and with technology improvement, you could even get a high bandwidth server to use just for a day and then switch back to your default server after everything is over that way you don't end up spending too much but no. I don't even understand what is happening.

I remember back in the days when I was learning website hacking, I decided to practice with one state website like that, I think it was Ondo state, I got on their server and saw there was also a biscuit company website on their server. Can you imagine! Also the biscuit website was just as crappy and ugly as the state website.

Now compared to property pro https://www.propertypro.ng/

Nigerians dont even engage a UI UX designer before they even go to building a site

Business / Re: The Journey Of Tech Startups In Nigeria And How To Establish One. by duyilekan98(m): 4:31pm On Dec 28, 2021
databoy247:
When I started my journey of being an entrepreneur, I focused my interest in web development, designing websites for businesses, companies, private individuals, etc. Freelancing with this skill rocks but personally, I think it does not help you become a businessman or should I say an Entrepreneur. being an entrepreneur means taking control of your outcomes, income. and transactions.

Its very difficult being a full entrepreneur working as a freelancer. While it is good to provide such freelancing service based on your skill like website development, in a country like ours, this translates to feeding from hand to mouth. A lot of businesses operate without the need for a website, a lot of organizations who actually owns a website do not really understand the intricacies of having a website. The norm of “my business owns a website kind kind of feeling” prevails amidst these business owners. They do not care for lead generation, they do not care for closing deals funneled in through a website. Hence, they do not appreciate the value provided by websites.

With the above mentality conversant with existing businesses and new start-ups, I can categorically say that freelancing as a web developer sucks and might make you bankrupt sooner than you think.

This awareness by freelance web developers started brewing over the years and they began to realize that to survive the murky waters of this harsh Nigerian economy, you have to improvise. You have to quit being a freelancer. You have to think “tech start-up”.

This is an emerging trend in global entrepreneurship. Freelancers in a more stable and balanced economy have begun to massively diversify towards and shift their focus in this direction. There is a wave of paradigm shifts. Tech startups can be defined under two spectrums though I cannot categorically say one is correct than the others.

First, a new business that makes use of the internet to deliver a set of solutions can be called a tech startup. They might just be simple solutions.

Secondly, a new business built on technology as its core engine. In this instance, the core component can be a complex new software or hardware. This is also referred to a tech startup.

Now as a freelance web developer, how can you become a budding entrepreneur where your business, transactions, traction, growth metrics can be measured? You can start by doing the
following;

1. Conduct a feasibility study.
Do some asking around about a particular problem, ask some people about something they are experiencing and find out if they will be happy if a solution is made available for such problem. You can also ask yourself, what is that thing you wish to do or have BUT cannot do because there is no website offering such solution. You can conduct your survey on social media. And know that if you can talk to 50 people, you can draw your results from this which
can enable you decide on what to do.

2. Create a website (and app).
Now you have an idea, why not set up a website that sells this idea or product to prospective end users. If you can’t do it yourself, pay a professional to do it for you. Make sure you emphasize the nature of the problem, how your (digital) product which is also a solution can solve that problem, and how much it costs (include discounts where necessary).

3. Setup your customer service channel
As your project is launched, ensure you have a valid medium of communication. Customer service is one of the items that can make or marr your business, so do it right. Have dedicated custom email addresses in place, have a phone line, and more importantly, try to be online at all times. Because people would start making inquiries sooner than you think.

3. Create a budget.
A budget is very necessary for you to commence and grow. You will have expenses like internet connections, phone bills, and more importantly, advertising (which is key). If you do not have enough cash, then you can prepare a budget for the first 3 months. If your service/solution is good, after the first 3 months you should have some income to extend your budget.

4. Accounting
Always keep records of your transactions. It will help you in the long run with your budgeting, expenses, and your profit and loss account.

5. Client database.
Don’t forget to start packaging your client database from day one. Make sure your website is constructed such that orders land in a particular email address so you can have access to client information anytime. Create a list of these clients, add them to an email subscription system. Here you can send them periodic updates and don’t think that because you have concluded your business with them, then you don’t need them anymore. No. You need them. Studies have shown that a majority of your past clients always come back for more. So, create a database and store.

6. Recruit.
As time goes by, the business will become larger that what you can handle alone. At this stage, recruit helping hands. Teach them how it's done and watch your business expand.

In my case I’ve created an MVP(minimum viable product) app first, which I intend to use to carry out the survey. The only thing now is since the app is supposed to cater to a specific demographic of people(in my case chefs), where do I go about finding chefs to test out the value metrics of the product.

So far I’ve not been able to get a single beta tester. I don’t even know how to go about finding any. I made a post about it here on nairaland though https://www.nairaland.com/6913709/interested-being-part-startup-attempt#108879071

Build a Startup but make your target outside Nigeria, that is what I am doing, the more progress i make the more I can share.

Easier to explain with Proof, so till then

But what if what you’re building is something that is meant to solve the problems Nigerians face.

For example I have a chef friend and I’ve been able to access the chef industry in Nigeria, and I have to say it’s a little bit cutthroat. There are not many opportunities, you’re either working at a restaurant, or a self established food vendor(which is extremely capital intensive), or a freelance caterer.

So that led me to seeing how I can help solve the problems chefs face from a software developer standpoint. I eventually starting working on a service for chefs and I’m currently looking for beta testers to test the value metrics of the idea.

Every now and then I hear people saying things like, don’t waste your time on Nigeria or Nigerians, or why not target some other demographic of people. Honestly Nigeria doesn’t help the tiniest bit. There’s a problem and at the same time they stifle anybody that tries to come up with a solution.

We can’t underestimate the power of social media in growing a business. But based on my assessment of Instagram, it does help a couple chefs, but not so much a great effect on the masses. It’s not enough to have people like and comment on your food posts.
