Usbeel: Yankari is functional, also, few months ago, Gov. Yuguda assign new chairman for it, and since the begging of 2013, it is undergoing renovation and new changes for international features, that is why the gate fee was changed from N200 to N5000 adults, and N2500 for children/students! Thanks I am a wildlife enthusiast and would like to visit. Are there lions in the reserve? |

Properties › Re: Demolition Going On At Ojudu/Alagbole For The Ogun Road Project by eaglechild: 8:13pm On Oct 24, 2013 |
DrDapcee: My family has multiple properties earmarked for demolition on this road… the income from these properties sustain the big family. The future is bleak. We have done nothing wrong. We have c/o. we made adequate clearance for future road expansion as adviced by our architect. Some of the houses date back 20yrs in age. All going down. … We did not get any formal warning from the ogun state government. All we saw were markings on our property. No written notification. No media communiqué, nothing. We went to Abeokuta and we got conflicting reports both from the government office and the ministry of lands. In summary, they assured us that demolition would only start in 2015. They requested quotes for value of our properties…. running into nine digit figures. We gave them. They offered less than 20% of the current value of these properties. We asked for a design of the road so that we can plan a structured demolition of our property ourselves so as to preserve the memories of these properties and minimize destruction by their hungry bulldozers. They did not give us any. We were in the dark, confused, anxious, unhappy, disappointed. All of a sudden, we heard Amosun came last Sunday, spent about 20mins, walked about a 100m and was heard to say that work would commence tomorrow(monday). I encourage development in every level and agree that Yakoyo /Alagbole road needs an overhaul, but why put the cart before the horse. Amosun mentioned that he had warned us 2yrs ago about the proposed destruction. Why did he not use this period to compensate us so that we would not be in this current situation of unplanned homelessness after many years of comfort? I pray none of you become homeless, it is a wicked experience. Amosun never engaged stake holders of the area. When development started in the area back in the late 80’s and people were ignorantly purchasing the land from omo oniles, was there any advice from the government against such? If indeed there was a master plan for that road, why did the government not clamp down on development of that area during the early 90’s when development of that area was in its nascence? Amosun has wielded his power immaturely and insensitively. Such impunity should not go unpunished regardless of the intention. Did you know that taking the road through the vast undeveloped area surrounding alagbole/yakoyo would save the government more money by saving on ‘compensation’? Why was this option not explored? This road would link to the Lagos/Ibadan express way about 5km from Berger junction. This has exposes many problems that face our country. We the residents of this area are also human, powerless against the selfish govenrment but still human and deserve some respect. It is us today, but remember it can be you tomorrow, in another form. We should challenge such insensitivity to citizens. Most of these houses are the sole source of income for the owners. where do they go now? where would they sleep? compensation whenever it arrives will not alleviate the current distress and trauma. God, we leave this in your hands. Fight for us, no body else will. A very insensitive APC led government. The best move will be to settle it in court. Sad indeed. |

Usbeel: I hope you know Bauchi is one of the fastest growing city in Nigeria(population), also, the state business activities is boosting in a high rate, especially because of this bokoharam thinX, this make some of Borno and Yobe people choose to settled in Bauchi, and previous Jos crises. More so, the state has the Nigerian National Park(Yankari) which receives visitors from parts of the world daily, and also, our people will no longer travel to Kano/Abuja/Lagos for flight things! I love wild life. Is Yankari still functional? What does it have to offer? |

Car Talk › Re: Japanese Or German Cars- Which Do You Prefer And Why? by eaglechild: 1:36am On Oct 24, 2013 |
Siena: I agree. Ownership of a marque may change, but the heritage remains the same.
Italian cars are the best on planet Earth? I disagree with this.
Mainstream Italian cars, like Fiat, Lancia and Alfa Romeo compete against the mainstream German marques. These Italian cars are high maintenance, and can be described as fragile. The average comparable Japanese car may not match the performance of the Italian rivals, (which are argueably real driver's cars) but are streets ahead in terms of durability. As a daily driver, An Alfa Romeo 156 2.0 TS is highly strung, a Toyota Corolla Sport, BMW 120 M-Sport or Audi A3 1.8T Sport isn't.
The supercar sector has been dominated by the Italians - Lamborghini, Ferrari, Bugatti, Pagani, Maserati for many years. Then the Nissan Skyline R32 / R33 came along, narrowing the gap. Today, the Nissan GTR is a formidable contender, a sport Grand Tourismo, with 4 seats and performance to seriously threaten the Italian masters. Very few Italian supercars are practical as daily drivers, and definitely not for a family. Then there's the Porsche, which is as practical as it gets, especially the Panamera, which has supercar performance in a 5-door, 4 seater body. It will also outlive the Italians.
Down the road from me is Verdi Ferrari, all they cater for is supercars. Google them, and see what they're up to. Italian supercars spend a lot of time undergoing surgery, as they break often. I like them, but as a daily driver (and sole means of transport) not practical. If you're referring to outright pace, then a Caterham 7 will run rings round the average Italian supercar. Oh my goodness, you almost made me come by mentioning PAGANI, CATERHAM and NISSAN SKYLINE etc in the same sentence. You know your cars. Pagani is as exclusive as it gets. Just like the Caterham. My take is, no one knows how to make a car drive better than the Germans, for now. However, when it comes to reliability the Japs have it. Very practical example, my friend got a new BMW 5 series some years back 2007 with a full BMW motor plan and warranty, along the line (3 years) he just had to give up the car as he was always at the dealership. Broken AC(my old maxima has its AC running for 6 years) Faulty electricals i think power seats/nav Kept changing the light bulbs etc Bear in mind you have to use PREMIUM everything from petrol to oil to run flat tires. I once drove the car and i have never experienced any family car that drives better. He did not upgrade his model but opted for a 2012 Toyota Fortuner which has not seen the dealership except for routine. I think German cars are too finicky, they need premium everything including maintenance for you to enjoy them. Only VW maybe is an exception, Yes they are mostly luxury brands but lexus and infiniti are not that choosy. |
