gboye_1999: Oh yes...the infrastructural decay.
Its prevalent every where though and its a Nigerian debacle. I trust if our governors were honest with what comes presently from the National Cake, it may not be this severe...
Lets not forget, No international airline is a charity... Seriously if the demand was there they will be the ones begging to fly to Enugu and Port Harcourt. For example: Air France has daily flights to Port Harcourt due to the high patronage from French multinationals and even foreign oil servicing companies whereas British Airways shut down their PH office years back so as to consolidate and reduce their footprint.

Back in 2003, Airfrance had only 1 weekly flight out of Port harcourt, today they have daily flights....
Its basically DEMAND and SUPPLY for every business. We look like morons when we force them on issues like this.

Trust me....the demand in Lagos is growing and they have seen the opportunity in Kano as well.
What our thieving politicians (no matter the tribe, colour and lineage) should do is have an economic plan/blue print to turn our towns to goldmines. What local resources could bring comparative advantage, develop an ecosystem around it...Trust me the airlines will come where the need to.
Besides what happens to the local airlines if all towns and major cities have international airlines flying to them.
MAJOR cities need international airports.
Are you saying we should close down all the other international airports and have only Lagos, so that local airlines will survive?

Those dark ages are behind us forever.

Why would a 300+ capacity jet be flown past kano through to Enugu only to return over 190 of the passengers back towards kano.
Igbo folks here should stop with the silly argument. angry ...

They are not usually used literally.

ACM10: grin grin

This comment got me rolling. This is a wicked uppercut.

Jokes apart, anyone that passed through medical school to final year deserves respect. I remember that a certain set of medical students of UNN were 400 in number in their first year. That was during the tenure of Professor Ginigeme Mbanefo. The school senate was livid with anger that they convened an emergency session to discuss the issue. Prof. Mbanefo simply told them to relax. Assuring them that the medical school has a way of separating chaff from wheat. Their population were cut to half in first year alone. 2nd MBBS further reduced their size to 100. About 90 eventually graduated. It is only someone who does not know how exams is conducted in medical school that harbours the thought of "runs". In some courses, you will have to be examined by 10 different examiners consisting of external examiners who are authority in that field.

I will also like to know the name of the school where medical students runs their way through. grin
Actually just about 50 of the original members of the class.
The other number was made up by repeat and change over students.

Anyone talking about runs is a joker, go ask Tony Nwoye.

sweet_gala: that makes no sense geographically. Why would you fly over kano into Enugu and then ferry over 50% of your passengers back towards kano. Do you have knowledge of logistics. They need to organise connection flights from Enugu , PH , ondo state, Benin towards kano,ABJ or Lagos.
We are talking about planes not paper kites here.
So all flights should stop at Kano then instead of Lagos going by your Jakande Geography.

la furia: There is no record of arm smuggling through international airline, and who will do that will there is the port as alternative.
Since the easterners are known to smuggle drugs/cocaine through airport, direct flight to Enugu isn't the right (does this make sense to you?)
Even the aviation minister can't tell Qatar airways in their face that the reason is to stop arm smuggling.
One last question, don't people smuggle guns to the east?
The last time I checked the SWestwerners hold the world record for drug smuggling. (Most weed swallowed).
So Lagos, should have been shut down since.

I presented a genuine concern , if you choose to view it through bigoted lenses, that is your biz.

You must have been on planet pluto for you not to know that Boko Haram that just recently killed 19 motorists, Al Shabab that carried out the Kenyan mall attack, etc are all Al Qaeda linked African terror groups with ties to the middle east.

speedyboi: Asa was just an example.
Abuja Peeps like MI. They also like Artists like Omawumi, waje, Tiwa Savage, Onyeka Onwenu, Banky W, Darey etc. And that's because they usually make music not noise! And to top it all, they usually come with live band to stage

The limit to which they like the likes of flavour, P-square, wizkid, Iyanya, Davido etc is just to dance to their music at the club or add them to playlist. But to go waste money to see them lip sync on stage? Hell Nah!

@the bolded, the show was held in dem lugbe, kubwa et Al...I guess? undecided afterall...na abuja people dey call those places too. Cos I don't see people doing that. For this same abuja where people go stand up and go home if the artist no come stage on time? Or if the show is disorganized and started late? I don't think so!
U have started saying thrash.
Psquare and 2face will pull more crowd in Abuja than Asa or nneka.

Abuja is not in the moon, it is in Nigeria.

sweet_gala: Yes a fair share of international airports, however remember that air travel is a business and if FG wants to extend a network country wide the demand need be provided to make it profitable for the airlines , they need to enable them through concessions.
Do you really believe, that with the spate of international terrorism going on, it is safe to allow regular direct flights by Qatar airlines to Kano?

I don't.
The earlier you realise it is a very genuine concern the better for you.
TravelRe: Qatar Air Blocked From Plying Kano Route by eaglechild: 11:53am On Oct 21, 2013
sweet_gala: You fail to get the gist, and I doubt you are a successful business man.
You have to evaluate you product placement, and the demand and movement of commerce.

Let's ask the question what is the destination of a Qatar flight that originates in any part of Nigeria? Multiple destinations is the answer with stop-overs possibly(increasing the number of destinations)

You can not force a commercial airline who are in business to make profit to fly a jumbo jet to a destination where they would not be able to fill up the seats. They'll suddenly have low demand and high capacity, and then reverse in the other destination of choice.

What the aviation ministry need to do is enable qatar airlines team up with a local airline who would ferry Enugu passengers to kano airport and back.
Or better still Kano passengers to Enugu and back.

The Kano State government says it is not aware that the application of the Qatar Airways had been rejected.
In a telephone interview, the Commissioner for Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives, Alhaji Danburam Abubakar Nuhu, said the government would react to it officially when the airline briefs it on the development.
According to him, there are no regular international flights in Kano at the moment.
“Kano remains the centre of business in the country. We are working hard to see that Ethiopia Air that is flying from Enugu comes here because the volume of business in Kano is higher than that of Enugu. A group recently rated Kano as second to Lagos in contributing to the country’s economy.
“The group, known as Renaissance Group, said Kano State contributes $10 billion annually to Nigeria’s economy after Lagos. You know aside from oil, Kano State is the second contributor to the GDP. Our textile market annually contributes N10 billion to the economy, Dawano market N20 billion,” he said.
But former Managing Director of the Nigerian Airways, Captain Mohammed Joji, said the Open Air Policy allows airlines to land anywhere in the country.
“The same policy was signed with USA in 2003 when Mrs. Kema Chikwe was Aviation Minister. The policy is not good to developing economies like ours. If you sign it, it will kill the economy of the county because they will not pay any commission for BASA,” he said in a phone interview
The same Kano state government that cried itself hoarse for Festus Odumegwu's removal because he suggested that Kano census figures were stretched to the point of being more populated than Lagos.

Yeah we all know they are good at extrapolating figures.

When their planes get blown up in Kano now.
Some oily folks will come out and start shouting that safety was not considered.
Now they are being offered safer options.
They better accept it.

They should keep off Boko territory unless they have a hidden agenda.
Note that all the airlines shouting for Kano route are middle eastern, very good move by the ministry.
We don't need an illegal Boko arms window.
TravelLuanda Is World's Most Expensive City by eaglechild(op): 8:41am On Oct 21, 2013
For the second time in three years, the African city
of Luanda has been declared the most expensive city in the
world for expats by Mercer, a human resources consulting
firm.
While it's true that most of the Angolan capital's population
lives in poverty on the outskirts of the city, in the center,
Porsche Cayennes share the road with Cadillac Escalades
and the latest Range Rovers.
Hugo Boss makes such a killing here that it opened a
second store within walking distance of the first.
For those not familiar with Luanda, however, the ranking
may come as a surprise.
Tokyo (which took top spot in Mercer's survey last year)
makes sense as the world's most expensive expat city.
So might Moscow or New York.
But Luanda?
