as you can see, the ones in the picture look fairly young, so its possible they are also part of a breeding program.

Alitalia, Virgin, Iberia do offer flights that cross the continental air space of the U.S.

They are not limited to just New York and also fly into Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Seattle, etc

These are international airports which those airlines have slots to fly into.

Arik has its greatest passenger base in Newyork, it does not have to fly to Las Vegas or Seattle.
