PDP Never Again |
Mr Gbawe, what's your thought? I see you viewing. Will Cameron extradite a serving MP to the US? |
Will India do it? Will Brazil do it? Will Malaysia do it? Absolutely not. Nigeria is not a Banana republic. Ibori's case is different as he was not a serving elected official when he was extradited from the UAE. This man can be extradited once he ceases to be a 'Senator.' Though I see the flaw in that argument, it is paramount that we act as a confident grown - up country. Nigeria is not Papua New Guinea (no disrespect to them) |
Thank God. We dont want the likes of Mrs Deziani in APC |
Calculia:And did your people forget to tell you how Biafran soldiers invaded old Mid - West uninvited and caused so much atrocities? People all over Nigeria have their painful stories to tell about the dreadful war. |
I support APC and campaigned tirelessly amongst friends and family for Mr Buhari's victory. Nonetheless, I believe it would be a mistake for Nigeria to hand over an individual elected a Senator by the people of Nigeria to a foreign government. Obviously, this is about Mr Kashamu who faces allegation of involvement in drugs dealing in the USA. My reasons are as follows: 1. It will do so much harm to Nigeria' image abroad The arrest and and handover of Mr Kashamu - a serving senator - will be headline news around the world. The headline 'Nigerian Senator extradited to US on drugs charges' will top news on CNN, BBC, FOX, CCTV and similar media channels around the world. This will only serve to reinforce the most negative perception foreigners hold about Nigeria and its people 2. Only a banana republic hands over one of its 'Senator' to another country for prosecution. If Mr Kashamu is sworn in as a Senator of the Federal Republic on May 29 (?), he becomes a serving senator. It will do Nigeria's reputation as a leading African power no good to be seen handling over one of its serving legislators to a foreign power for prosecution. Nigeria will be a laughing stock. The US will not extradite any of its citizen to Nigeria, let alone a US Senator 3. Yes, there may be low level bad publicity from not releasing Mr Kashamu, but trust me, releasing him will unleash a torrent of negatives about Nigeria because that news will catch fire like nothing else. Such bad publicity will really hurt Nigeria' reputation as a place where foreign investors want to do business. 4. Handing Mr Kashamu over to the US will be a slap on our democracy and a humiliation for his constituents. Whatever you think of Mr Kashamu, his constituents lined up under the sun and possibly rain for hours to cast their vote for him to emerge their representative. As far as the laws of Nigeria is concerned, this man is able to take his position and discharge his duties to his constituents as their Senator. Extraditing him to the US will amount to subjugating our laws to that of the US. India, Brazil, South Africa, Russia, Malaysia etc will not do it. We should not. Mr Buhari's govt should make it clear to the US that releasing a serving Senator to them is not conducive to our image as an independent democracy. Please leave APC / PDP brouhaha aside for a moment and look at this from a national perspective. Even if you hate Mr Kashamu, put that aside for a moment. Once he becomes an ordinary citizen (maybe if he loses re-election in 2019), the US can return to pursue extradition. |
Billyonaire:Benin to Akwa Ibom is a massive drag compared to Lagos - Ore - Benin. While it would make a lot of sense for businesses in the SE and parts of the SS to access goods through Akwa Ibom, Lagos makes more sense for businesses in Benin. Edo State should not waste scarce resources pumping money into a project that its people will gain little benefit from. |
Billyonaire:Probably 10 states (minus Edo). Makes no sense for Edo to invest in a project that is further away from them than Lagos sea ports. Edos and Yorubas have traded for hundreds of years with no problems at all. Lagos remains more viable for someone in Edo State. |
Scholes007:We all want relative independence from one another (at least the Yorubas canvassed for regional autonomy at the national conference). My question is why blame Yoruba for everything that ever goes wrong in our region (SS)? Are some SS folks just following Igbo agenda without focusing on their own issues? They have their region, let them canvass their own interest. |
Calculia:My papa and mama na real edo, but them teach me well well say 'home' is in the village. If I call my people and tell them say I wan fight over Lagos land, them go ask me if my head correct ![]() That's clearly not the case with you. |
Calculia:So, if everybody go answer their papa name, me I go dey answer my papa name for my village. You nko, you wan answer yours from Abule Ebga? You dey craze o. |
Calculia:Olorun gba wa lowo ogun esu o. So becos you dey vex (over nothing in particular), you're ready to kill yourself and everyone else ![]() Total madness |
IHEJIRIKAisBOKO:Bros your own tire person o. No single one of your comments go without insulting Igbos. This is not the way to conduct oneself in a public (albeit faceless) arena. It takes nothing to respect your fellow humans. Haba |
Calculia:Wetin concern me concern Awolowo for this debate now? Bottom line is I, and several others that I know who are not Yorubas simply find the idea of fighting over other people's land laughable. Unnecessary aggression (not talking about you personally) gets nobody anywhere. Especially in Africa. Igbos will end up with a nasty bloody nose, and nobody wants that. |
Calculia:I certainly do not speak for others, but as a matter of public record, no one has heard Hausas or people of other backgrounds threatening to fight over Lagos. This is an entirely Igbo project, and good luck to them. But they should not try to co-opt others into their own machinations. |
Obiagu1:So when did other Nigerians (Edos, Hausas, Igbiras etc) meet and tell you they're willing to fight alongside Igbos against Yorubas over Lagos. Nigerians, except Igbos, recognise Lagos as a Yoruba territory. If your people want to fight over Lagos, you're on your own. |
ezeagu:This idea that Igbos 'control' commerce in Nigeria is yet another chest beating nonsense that bears no correlation to reality. If you say Igbos are dominant in trading, yes, one can let that pass. But 'commerce?' that's nonsense. Igbos do not control Nigerian economy. Fact. |
Mannylex:You need to be realistic - 4th mainland bridge will easily be one of the single most expensive projects on the African continent. An almost broke Federal govt plus Lagos state can't even contemplate starting a project like this. Where is the money? Well, maybe Diezani can have pity on us and lend us some of our money she skived with. Doesn't look like she's in the mood for that right now. She apparently flew out of the country last week on yet another foreign junket. PDP totally screwed the country. |
missangela:Interesting, giving that no party in the history of Nigeria symbolises impunity like PDP. When I think PDP, I think Ekiti under Fayose, Ogun under Gbenga Daniel, Plateau under Dariye, Oyo under Akala...and many more. Equivalent thuggish elements in APC dont readily come to mind. |
'Own goal', that infamous act when a footballer inexplicably scores a goal against his own team and in the process damaging his and his team interest. A PDP victory in Lagos, will in my view, be one of the worst political own goals in the history of Nigeria. For 16 years, the PDP Federal govt punished Lagos for being an opposition stronghold. The same will likely happen if APC holds the centre and PDP wins in Lagos. Consider this: 1. PDP Federal govt neglected Apapa - Oshodi expressway for almost 2 decades despite making trillions of Naira from the ports 2. PDP Fed govt abandoned most federal roads in Lagos, and in many cases prevented and obstructed Lagos State from fixing them thereby subjecting you and I to near-intolerable motoring experiences for nearly 2 decades 3. PDP Fed govt put all types of obstacles in the way of the Lagos Sea port. First it took years to get them to reluctantly approve the project. After that, the Fed has put all sorts of obstruction in the way of the project. This project has the potential to transform Lagos's economic fortune 4. Despite repeated requests from Lagos State to manage the National Theatre and Tafawa Balewa Square and modernise them to international standards, the PDP Fed govt refused, preferring to let both structures lie decaying instead. PDP Fed would rather allow the destruction of an asset than let Lagos State govt manage it - see the National Stadium in Surulere which is now derelict. To slam home PDP's vindictiveness, the Fed govt announced few months ago that the National Theatre Iganmu, probably Nigeria's most iconic architectural building was to be sold to an unknown Dubai company for conversion into a supermarket and amusement arcade! 5. PDP Fed govt told the world that Lagos - State inspired, but privately-funded Eko Atlantic was a white elephant project. However, once the project started taking shape and real signs of success were emerging, the same Fed govt, out of jealousy, then proposed a stupendously expensive, unnecessary, and competing Abuja centenary city, into which it plans to sink hundreds of billions of naira. Rather than put money in mass low cost housing for long suffering masses, the Federal govt in its macho, anti - Lagos stance would rather splurge on building commercial offices for businesses when private developers are perfectly able to provide this need. There are many more examples of how the Federal govt has abandoned, obstructed, victimised Lagos over the past 16 years for refusing to vote PDP. The reality is that the challenges facing Lagos are such that the State govt alone will not be able to drive development at the pace that is required without Federal assistance. As Saturday presents Lagos with its first opportunity in almost 20yrs to be on the same political page as the centre, it would be a monumental own goal not to grab this opportunity and see what 4 yrs of a new 'partnership for Lagos' brings . With Federal govt on its side, Lagos can rule Africa and become a force in the world league of cities. As Lagos improves, so will the lives of you and I. With PDP in Lagos, we face another 4 years of irascible relationship with the Federal govt. Why would I want that? |
ifeelgood:Neither Mimiko nor his deputy is facing elections next week. Their term ends in 2017 - I think. |
bumtos:A company is owned by private individuals, while a government belongs to the people Government money is not Mimiko's money. Mimiko does not have the authority to seize his deputy's remuneration. |
There is really no need for APC to go after Fayose. Fayose is mostly seen as a thug and nuisance by non-Ekiti SW people so he's not a credible potential leader of the PDP in the SW. Mimiko on the other hand is an effective communicator and a calculating politician. He could become an effective rallying point for PDP in this region. He's also a potential threat to Mr Tinubu as a credible SW leader. It is in APC's interest to pull the rug from beneath him, hence why I believe they will go after him. They wont bother with Fayose - he's never going to lead anybody other than his Ekiti people. |
eCollynzo:APC actually won about 55% of the votes in the Presidential, hence why I said APC should win at least half of the HoAssembly. But winning half is not the real issue. 1. Once APC has a sizable number of the House membership, then the deputy governor's position is safe. 2. The next task is to get the long knives out for Mimiko, and this will happen with defections. 3. In Ondo State, I tell you, you don't need a lot of money to secure HoAssembly defections, and before long Mimiko will be facing impeachment.Mimiko has a lot of powerful enemies, with Mr Tinubu being no.1 on the list. Fayose's position is far stronger than Mimiko's. |
eCollynzo:Wait until the House of Assembly elections next week. If the elections follow the Presidential pattern, APC will win at least half of the House seat. Once that happens, Mimiko, rather than his Deputy will need to be concerned about his own position. I've heard one or two things about APC's plan for Mimiko. I suspect a lot will happen in Ondo politics over the next 6 months. |
GoodGovernance:8 years is a long time in politics. A lot will happen between now and then, so its too early to say. But there's no reason no to start doing the groundwork now. |
whoawa:Tackle him for what exactly? What crime did he commit? |
OREMUSSANCTUS:Greedy nature like how? Will he demand a subvention from the CBN? This man makes his money mostly from his Alpha Beta company - a perfectly legitimate business under Nigerian law. With the company helping to increase Lagos IGR from a few billions to over N250 billion per year, I think if the Federal govt feels Apha Beta can help to transform its own revenue generation efforts, why not? If an Indian or South Korean man with nothing but a briefcase approaches the govt with Alpha Beta's idea, na so una go quickly award the contract to them sharp sharp. So why not a Nigerian company which reinvests its profit in our country?? |
PDP will lose more states. It's inevitable. Any tangible recovery for the party is at least 2 years away as most Nigerians are simply repulsed by the party right now. They will need to lay low and rebuild from the ground up again. |
It's sad you feel that way, but I can assure you other Nigerians do not hate Igbos. I've never seen anyone in my social and business cycle shown or express any hatred of Igbos. So, who are these people who hate Igbos so much. Where are they? I think people have enough daily challenges in this country than be preoccupied with a hatred for a particular group of people for no reason. |
