SuperS1Panther:The number of actual Yoruba-speaking people in Akoko Edo is significantly reduced now. We are talking a few villages along the boundary around River Ose. From these villages to Ibillo and all the way to Igarra, you'll find people with Yoruba names & obvious Yoruba ancestry, whose parents speak Yoruba but who can not muster a word in Yoruba. Things changed in the early 70s when Ogbemudia or the then Governor forbade the teaching of Yorubas in their schools. The current generation of young Akoko Edos look more to Benin, than Akure or Ibadan. I believe they'd probably prefer to remain in Edo. |
numericalguy:You're such an idiot. I cant be bothered. |
I go to bed tonight fearful, very fearful for the safety of women in this country. If a man in such a position can threaten a womam in such a horrible and sickning way, I just wonder how common unreported rape must be in this country. |
If you're comfortable threatning to rape a woman, then it raises the question whether the man has indeed raped a woman before. |
That any man can publicly threaten to rape a woman is shocking. That the man in question is someone paid from the public purse is very worrying. Is there any reason why this man cannot be arrested, handcuffed & taken to a police yard to explain himself? Surely, threatning physical harm is an offence in this country, or is it not. |
Trioxocarbonate:What exactly will Igalas do if APC asks Faleke to step in. |
Trioxocarbonate:It's up to APC. If they ask Faleke to step in, so be it, and nothing will happen. It just seem very indecent to say that people from a certain part of a state must never accede to the position of Governor of their state. As Africans, where is our decency and respect for others who might be less opportuned than us. Once we are bigger than others, we try to vanquish their rights as if they dont exist. Why? |
donphilopus:This is simply a poor assessment. He may not last 6 months? How? Why is everything do or die in Africa. Do Igalas own Kogi? Where is the constitutional justification for impeaching someone because they are not from your tribe ![]() And, if APC choose Faleke, that means Tinubu has imposed him on Kogi abi? |
azimibraun:Things dont always work like this in Nigerian politics, particulalry when you have crafty 'external forces' involved in shaping the selection of candidates. If INEC determines that Faleke can step in as APC's Guber candidate, this Echocho guy will likely not be chosen as the running mate. 1. Giving Faleke an opportunity to break the Igala domination in that State is probably a greater reward to some than accommodating Igala's preference for Echocho 2. Echocho is a very ambituous man who has contested Governorship primaries in both PDP and APC 3. Making someone as powerful and ambituous as this a Deputy is asking for trouble for Faleke The more likely outome is that 'external forces' in APC would end up picking a low- profile, probably elderly Deputy for FalekeAPC can then use the next 4 years to launder and build the profile of this deputy so that he can become useful in winning Igala votes for a Faleke's 2nd term. This is what I think will happen. |
Eliyi gidi gan. How sad. |
RexTramadol1:Even if it was Jagaban, nothing would have been wrong with it. Is there a law that bans opposition members from being involved in legitimate business? |
Where is the scandal in Oando (a private company) buying oil assets from Connoco Philips an American private company. The transaction simply required the consent of the Minister for Peroleum because it is an oil asset. That's all. This woman sat on the approval for so long - so what is wrong if Tinubu came to urge her not to be an obstacle to a transaction between 2 non government owned companies .She's trying to create a scandal where there is absolutely none. |
Contract will be reviewed and if necessary put back out for public bid. There is no justification for paying 1% of the nation's commonwealth under a scam contract. Once the investigations are carried, and if the contract if put out for a bid under new and fair terms, if Remita likes it can bid, otherwise it can zap off. It wont be missed. Enough of stealing is not corruption. End off. |
laudate:Does what you write up there make sense...even to you? Money is missing in your house. You call everyone present and threaten to call the police. Your houseboy goes on his knees saying '...Oga, please dont call Police, I will refund it' According to you, that is not an admission of guilty. Some of you people are so corrupt, you have buried your morality. |
The funny thing is, the company simply dips its hands in our collective commonwealyth and pays itself what it likes, then passes the rest to the CBN. Then when they are cuaght, they rush to return some of the money. Never seen a country like this before. Shouldn't Remita pass ALL REVENUES to the owner of the money, and then the owner (Ministry of Finance or CBN) pays for their service? How can it be that Remita pays itself from the money it collects ![]() |
laudate:If it wasn't a scam, why did the CBN confirm today that Remita or its owner company has 'hurriedly' refunded N8 billion naira. They forgot the N8 Billion in their back pocket before abi? Abeg so siddon. |
meforyou1:Yes, nothing comes for free. But that does not mean the government has to pay way overboard for a very ordinary service. In any event, the software is so poor and unstable, you have to laugh at the way Nigeira continue to deceive itself. For a whole week a couple of weeks ago, we were unable to make a government payment, because the banks cant process payments. Why? Remita only works between 8 - 9 am. After that it normally crashes! We went from bank to bank, same problem. And now, to hear that this same company has paid itself over N25 billion and claiming more. What a country. The contract is a scam. |
The whole thing is just a scam. Now, we learn that the CBN has its own platform that it can use. Also, how do commercial banks transfer their capital ratio reserves to the CBN? (somethings banks were doing long before there was anything called 'software'). Do these banks also pay 1% for this transfer. I know for a fact that an off-the-shelf software with a few modifications can be had for less than $100,000 (20 million naira). So, where is the company's entitlement to tens of billions come from. It's a SCAM. |
People can say what they like about the existence of a contract bla bla. But that does not change the fact that a new government is entitled to look at what is quite clearly a scam contract. Op's attempt to conflate personal credit card charges in the US with the TSA charges is nonsense. If the government put out a bid for 0.1% of total collection as charges, many companies, including from abraod will happily bid for the contract, because even at 0.1% fee, it is still a very good contract for doing little. You supply a one - off software that requires nothing more than a handful of people to keep it going and you want to take 1% of the country's entire domestic earnings. The remaining 170 million people will have to contend with 'just' 99%. The contract is just another example of the wickedness of the PDP/Jonathan administration. Op can say whatever he likes, but this contract is going down. APC will will review the contract and deal with it accordingly. |
It does feel strange to be lined up with your sisters and married off all at the same time. |
“But the problem is this will lead to more agitation for Biafra,” Obioha said. What a joke and what a country. |
What a never ending saga. _________ Leaders of Igbo socio-political bodies,Ohanaeze Ndigbo, and Njiko Igbo, another prominent pan-Igbo association, described the portfolios assigned to Igbo ministers as ‘disappointing.’ Speaking with one of our correspondents on the telephone, President of Ohanaeze Youth Wing, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, who spoke on behalf of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, said Ogbonnaya Onu and Chris Ngige deserved ‘more influential’ ministries than Science and Technology, and Labour and Productivity, respectively. Isiguzoro said, “We are disappointed that somebody of the calibre of Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu was assigned to Science and Technology ministry, even Dr. Chris Ngige should have been appointed as the Health Minister instead of Labour and Productivity. “Okechukwu Enalama should have been appointed Minister of Finance. “Igbo ministers did not get juicy portfolios, except perhaps Ibe Kachikwu and Rotimi Amaechi, who are our brothers from the South-South. “We are not happy that we did not get the juicy portfolios, although we are happy that our brothers from the Niger Delta got. “Nevertheless, the era of impunity has gone and we expect all the Igbo ministers to perform excellently. “We expect them to close ranks and work towards developing Igboland.” Also, President of Njiko Igbo, Reverend Okechukwu Obioha, said Buhari relegated Igbo ministers to the background in his cabinet. But he admitted that the association was not surprised. He said, “They are adding more salt to the injury, we expected that. We can see that we (Igbo) are not wanted in this country. At the moment, the sharing of the national cake is between the North and the South-West. “What will Ngige be doing as Labour and Productivity minister when the Federal Government is not employing anyone, or creating jobs? “Even the Foreign Affairs portfolio that was given to an Igboman (Geoffrey Onyeama) is of no consequence because already Buhari has travelled to most of the countries and he will continue to do so. “He has travelled in six months more than the immediate past president travelled in six years. “So the Foreign Affairs minister will just be a rubber stamp. “Buhari has taken the Ministry of Petroleum Resources for himself, making an Igboman the Minister of State. “So, he (Buhari) has virtually given the Igbo nothing. “But the problem is this will lead to more agitation for Biafra,” Obioha said. http://punchng.com/buhari-denied-us-juicy-ministries-igbo-groups/ |
The company is owned by John Obaro and Ernest Ndokwe, two Igbo men, and the only reason this corrupt arrangement is in place is because the then Minister of Finance, was Igbo. Central Bank Governor, Igbo. Then Secretary to the Federal Government, Igbo. Then add the utterly confused and ignorant President Jonathan. But Igbos would want us to believe that Yorubas and Hausas are solely responsible for ruining this country! How can you put 1% of the entire evenue of a country to a single company, and the remaining 170 million people get to share 99%. For what? This is a company that simply provides a one-off software, that you can buy for less than $100,000 (N20 million) and can be maintained by less than 30 people. Yet, they are carting away with N50 Billion naira. It is part of the Jonathan legacy of corruption. Just imagine that Jonathan won, this nonsense of contract will have continued for years to come. I confirm that Chief Kolade is Chairman and not a shareholder in this company. Companies who seek government contracts often put 'highly respected' members of the company as paid Chairman of their company. The That is why ex President Gowon is Chairman of several companies but he is not the owner of these companies. They just use these men/women as the public face of the companies. Other than Mr Obara and Ndokwe, the other directors are employees of the company, not shareholders. |

Governor no dey go welcome people for airport anyhow o, unless the guest na President, VP etc This tells me 2 camps are forming with eye on 2019. Jagaban Camp - El Rufai, Osinbajo + most South West + some nothern governors Atiku Camp - Saraki, Sokoto State Governor, HoRep Speaker + some nothern governors + SE and most SS. The battle line is shapening up. |
liberty300:Mr Soludo was a terrible CBN Governor who almost brought Nigeria's banking system to total collapse. Under him, gangsters masquerading as bank CEOs used depositiors money like it was theirs - one of them aqcuired over 100 properties in Dubai and other places. Unfortunately, Mr Emefiele does not radiate the confidence of someone who knows what he is doing. But we have to stick with him and hope he comes good. |
Intervening in this public way just months after leaving office is unprofessional. It undermines Mr Emefiele. Mr Sanusi is either an Emir or an Economist. He can't be both. |
Beremx:I just dont get Nigerians. So because we voted APC, we must support every rubbish that these people do. Why should this guy be flying a private jet for a short trip from Abuja to Lagos. Why can't he fly commercial aeroplane like everyone else. Those saying its ok since the jet belongs to Nigerian Customs miss the point on so many levels. What is Nigerian Customs doing buying multi million dollar private jet in a country with millions of poor people. And if APC is truly for Change, shouldn't they be selling off these costly vestiges of corrupt PDP govt? Do the heads of Customs in the UK, Japan, Ghana, USA etc fly private jets?? |
Court of Appeal postponing a ruling indefinitely is rather curious. Did they panic because of SaharaReporters expose yesterday? This is the sort of thing you get from a High Court in a PDP - controlled state . This should not happen at the court of appeal. |
There must be very few countries in the world (mostly banana republics) where a Senate President will face these serious allegations and not resign immediately to clear his name in court. But I am not holding out hope of a resignation from Mr Saraki. From what I have read about him, he seems like a man so self absoved with himself and possessing an unrivalled sense of pride and entitlement. But the decent thing to do is to resign that position now. Otherwise, all the good name Buhari is trying to build for Nigeria internationally will vapourise. Having a sitting Senate President sitting in a dock will make the country a total laughing stock. |
Flyoruboy1:I see a lot of kids getting into meaningless arguments with Easterners about oil in Lagos, oil in Ondo state, bla bla. The oil in Ondo cannot support the SW economy from Badagry in Lagos to Ifon in Ondo state. Manufacturing will play a key role in driving SW regional economy. For that it will be Lagos and Ogun, and to a lower level, Oyo. Just an example, Dangote's refinery in Lagos will employ thousands of people directly, most of whom will earn over 100k per month. The multiplier effect on the Lagos economy will be huge. The SW can attract big investments because t is relatively peaceful. Now, they just need to go back to prioritising education. |
Tinubu flies his own private jet into the US as he pleases. So, why he go dey follow GMB up and down. Even within Nigeria, have you ever seen Tinubu following GMB up and down? They sat down as equals when bringing ACN and CPC together - infact I remember many occasions when GMB would fold his hands behind him like a little boy listening to Tinubu during the early days, But level don pass level now sha, as GMB is the boss now ![]() Still, Tinubu is not at the level of Amaechi, Fashola and the other younger ones. He respects Buhari as the President, but his level don pass make he dey follow am up and down. |

Deputy for Faleke
