Igbo ewegi Eze. - Igbo have no King. We could have those we regard, respect and those whose voice count, but we do not have King. Anyone promoting one don't have a clue to what it means to have Igbo Heritage. Alternatively, you could go for Igbo Representative (for ceremonial purpose) - Truth be told, that person will not speak on my behave or that of a true Igbo person (considering the complexities and divergence of issues here daily). |

Abuja – The Federal Government has reiterated its determination to address the problem of corruption to ensure the success of its transformation agenda and restore the good image of the country. Vice President Namadi Sambo made the reaffirmation at a dinner in Abuja on Thursday as part of the ceremony in honour of recipients of the Nigerian National Order of Merit (NNOM) for 2010 and 2011. He described corruption in Nigeria as a cancer which had been frustrating government efforts toward improving the quality of life of the people. He said government would fight “this cancer” to a standstill to ensure progress of the country. “I want also to seize this opportunity to assure Nigerians that we will fight corruption very seriously. Corruption has been a cancer that has gone into the marrow of this country and Insha Allah we will address it and do away with it in this country.’’ The vice-president said the Federal Government had also resolved to promote science and technical education at all levels of the education system. He said research and development was one of the government’s key cardinal points under the transformation agenda. Sambo said the Federal Executive Council had approved the immediate establishment of five specialised universities to boost science and technical education. “Human capital development is one of the major cardinal points of this administration. “You will recall that the Federal Executive Council has already decided that each state of the federation must have a specialised university and already five universities have been approved and they have taken off and by 2012 all outstanding states will have a federal university “`We have directed the ministry of education to boost the development of science education and the improvement of science education in this country will be the major part of our policies.’’ Sambosaid some parts of the country had started witnessing stability in power supply and promised that the government would soon inject additional megawatts into the national grid. He said the government was investing heavily in the coal to power energy programme as part of a deliberate effort to boost electricity supply, adding that already Enugu, Benue, Kogi and Gombe states had been selected for the commencement of phase one of the Coal Power Plant project. Sambo said that the government had embarked on the construction of more than 3,000km of dual carriage ways across the country. He congratulated the recipients and urged them to continue their good works for the progress of humanity. In his remark, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. Ayim Pius Ayim, expressed appreciation to President Goodluck Jonathan for increasing the monetary reward for winners of the Nigerian National Order of Merit (NNOM) by 100 per cent. The Chairman of the Governing Board of the Nigerian National Merit Award, Prof. Ouwafeyisola Adegoke, said the board had resolved to continue to perform its responsibilities diligently. (NAN) |
Reps Reject Fuel Subsidy Removal https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-816068.0.html |
President Jonathan is a wasted opportunity with the rate of his anti-Nigerians policies. |
NIGERIAN youths have expressed rage against Federal Government’s proposed removal of subsidy on petroleum products as Minister of Youth Development, Malam Bolaji Abdullahi, engaged them in a dialogue through social network to get their contributions. The youths, in their various comments, wondered why the refineries in the country were not functional, asking the government to learn from Niger Republic which has just built a new refinery. They dared the minister to mention the cabal working against the country’s interest. One of the youths, Oluwasegun Damilola, said: “They keep lobbying us to accept this oil subsidy removal. They say it’s for our own good, we say we don’t want, is it by force? “I actually think subsidy should go, but with the right targeted interventions to replace it.” Another, Godwin Amaize, said: “On the issue of subsidy removal, we recognise that the biggest issue is the issue of trust.” They were of the view that government needed to go back to its drawing board on the issue as the reasons given for the removal of fuel subsidy were not convincing. Struggling hard to convice the youths, the minister said, “much of the benefits of subsidy profit the rich rather than the poor. The rural areas are already paying more for petrol. Subsidy allows smuggling of subsidised petroleum products to neighbouring countries where it is sold at a higher rate. “No insensitive to make refineries work, because of imported fuel, as long as we keep subsidy, refineries will not work. “It takes time to build trust and trust is measured by performance, let us give time for the government to fix things.” The removal of subsidy is like driving a change, most of people, we tweet with did not oppose the issue of fuel subsidy, but what to do with the proceed of the subsidy. It is the issue of trust.” “The removal of subsidy is just one consequence of deregulation of the down stream sector. Government can not say because he wants to deregulate and start building refineries, but it will be economically viable to take up the policy for the investors to know that the government is determined to make the meaningful change in the society.” http://www.vanguardngr.com/2011/12/subsidy-youths-boil-as-minister-holds-tweet-meeting/ |
Keep it up people. Nigerians will defeat Jonathan on his anti-people policies. |
THE House of Representatives, yesterday, rejected President Goodluck Jonathan’s planned proposal to remove oil subsidy by January 2012. The legislators rejected the proposal during the consideration of the report on the Fiscal Strategy Paper submitted to the National Assembly by President Jonathan. They averred that the proposal was premature, just as they called on the President to source funds to finance items for the deficit expected in the 2012 budget. While considering the report of the Joint Committee on Finance, Appropriation, Legislative Budget and Research, National Planning and Economic Development, the members also tasked the President to be cautious in the implementation of its Public Private Partnership, PPP, policy. They observed that rushed implementation of the PPP could lead government to abandon its social responsibilities to Nigerians. The legislators held that PPP should be restricted to specialized areas where the private sector has comparative advantage and expertise to deliver results. Besides the House asked that the Federal Ministry of Finance should provide comprehensive details on capital projects to be funded through the PPP to the National Assembly before the submission of the 2012 budget. Part of the demands made to the finance ministry also include provision of indicative envelopes for the various sectors, as part of the main report, to enable the National Assembly assess the level of alignment with top line investment priority areas as indicated in the first National Implementation Plan. The House in the report approved daily crude oil production figures of 2.48mbpd, 2.55mbpd and 2.58mbpd for 2012, 2013 and 2014 respectively. The recommendation on debt sustainability proposing N794 billion as domestic borrowing in 2012 as well as the provision for both external and domestic debt service in the MTTF were approved by the House. They, however, kicked against the lumping together of all public debts noting that it should be stopped since it did not provide any meaningful information. “Data should be disaggregated since specific information is required to determine the extent to which the foreign and domestic debt levels can accommodate the proposed federal budget deficit financing options. In the future, the Debt Management Office should provide an analysis of the impact of the private sector and measures to reduce domestic debt,” the adopted report said. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2011/12/reps-reject-fuel-subsidy-removal/ |

A friend of mine was considering bringing in some Chinese Ipads for us to market because they will be cheaper. I have not really had experience with those other version of "Ipad". I also do not know how people will recieve it. If they will expect it to be like the Apple gadget. If you have seen or used the Chinese Ipads type, what is it like and what limitation does it have compared to the original ones? Cheers! |
The truth is that what President Jonathan wants to do is called Price Increase not We produce and sell crude oil, and buy refined fuel. |
1. The money spent on fuel subsidy does not go directly to the pocket of average Nigerians. 2. Removing the money spent on imported fuel subsidy will nearly double the price of fuel thereby making life very difficult for the average Nigerian. Therefore the only way to do anything about it that will benefit average Nigerian is to build refineries (private & government), produce what we consume and we will not have any need for fuel importation or adding any subsidy. |
Beaf:No. Just like BEAF of Nairaland. GEJ is a complete coward. How about that turkey, abi peper soup? |
Enugu – No fewer than 15 countries are expected to be represented at the maiden International Conference and Inauguration of Prof Chinua Achebe Annual Lecture series next year. The one-week conference, organised by the Faculty of Arts of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), will hold between Jan. 30 and Feb. 3, 2012 at the university. According to him, Achebe, an Emeritus Professor of English, served Nigeria in various capacities. “He has served this nation at various capacities crowning these services with his scholarly inputs at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. “He is a proud Igbo man that has, in his writings, projected Igbo minds, Igbo cosmology, Igbo traditions, Igbo social and political order more than any other person. “We have received responses from over 15 countries – Africa, Europe, and America, even Asia. Then all Nigerian universities.’’ Okafor said that Achebe had agreed to participate in the conference expected to be declared open by President Goodluck Jonathan. He said that many people, including Jonathan, governors of Enugu, Anambra and Abia States, some other notable Nigerians and foreigners, would be honoured in the course of the event. Notable authors such as Prof Wole Soyinka, Prof Nwando Achebe, Chimamanda Adichie, are expected to present lectures at the conference. A plank seller, Musa Abdullai, 47, on Tuesday dragged his wife, Mariam, to an Ikorodu Customary Court, Lagos, asking for dissolution of their 15-year-old marriage. Abdullai accused his wife of negligence towards the children and the family. The petitioner, who has three children by Mariam, wanted the dissolution because of her unruly behaviour lately. “My wife is very troublesome, and very stubborn. She is disobedient and does not know how to take care of the family. “She does not give the children food on time, or rather, she prefers feeding them with remnants she brought from parties,“ he said. The respondent, Mariam, 38, denied all her husband’s allegations and begged the court not to grant the petitioner’s request. “Its been long my husband dropped money for food at home. “At times I would only have N100 with me, which is why if they are doing any party around the house, I would tell them (children) to go and get food from there. “I pay for almost everything in the house,“ she said. Mariam told the court to appeal to her husband as she was not ready to quit the marriage. The Court President, Alhaji Nojeem Isiaka then told the wife to kneel down and beg her husband for true reconciliation, which she obediently obliged. Isiaka, however, adjourned further hearing till Dec.12 for possible reconciliation. (NAN) http://www.vanguardngr.com/2011/11/man-47-accuses-wife-of-negligence-wants-divorce/ |
Worst of all, the President Jonathan's government consumes a larger sum of money within months from the national purse than IBB did in his entire administration |
@All: What is Jonathan doing about it? I see, he is continuing the Chop-I-Chop system of governance. |
How more pathetic are we going to decend before we take a break for good. So this government is saying IBB is preventing them from solving the problems of Nigeria but they have a smooth methods of ensuring the stealing of Nigeria's wealth without IBB knowing about it or preventing them. https://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/319598_10150375123509263_363111729262_8549242_763462731_n.jpg |
The fight against corruption in Nigeria is still looking very ugly. Now the EFCC is getting new boss, my question what is the problem with the commission? Is it bad leadership? Is the corruption the are fighting hypnotizing them? What are the factors hindering EFCC from doing their work and getting results? https://www.elombah.com/Mrs.%20Farida%20Waziri%20handing%20over%20to%20Mr.%20Ibrahim%20Lamorde.jpg ^ Mrs Farida Waziri, handing over to Ibrahim Lamorde |

Another eye-service propagandist steps in. |
yuzedo:^^^ Am not tool cool with your choice of all the prohibited words, but agree that Jonathan should have name a monument after Ojukwu. I hope he will still auto-correct himself by naming a national monument after him - else the zoologist will be useless than we hoped. |
"IBB is like a father to me. Even since my days as deputy governor" - GEJ after paying IBB a visit |
Seun:I do concur to your post. But since in the case of Nigeria, Corruption is already a Monster - I recommend we implement a process able to challenge the Monster and also serve as a deterrent. |
We need solution to Today's Problems - not electioneering for 3.5yrs away. Don't know what is PRIORITIES ![]() |
I don't think being loved by your people makes you a great Nigerian, though. They are two separate things, in a multi-ethnic country like Nigeria. I don't care for the dude personally, but i can at least respect that he must have done something to make his people so fanatical about him.
Ojukwu was a great Nigerian. His opting for Biafra was the love and affection to the suffering of his people and not to spite the Nigerian federation or hatred against other Nigerians. His acts were very real and selfless. Even the things he fought to prevent are still hurting Nigerians now. Ojukwu you will always be in our hearts. Ndewo, odogwu! |
Kobo, me self I don nearly faint too. If only our leaders will be contended with moderate and use the wealth of this nation to solve our challenges, Nigeria should be among the finest in the world. |
Corruption in Nigeria is: - Hampering development - Keeping the poor in the dust and uplifting the rich - Draining our national resource - Setting us many years backward and more. |
