Iolo:
@OP,

I like it. I think what we need in Nigeria are a set of huge what-to and how-to manuals to immune the Judiciary off corruption.

Did mister A steal 1billion naira? If proven yes, then how many years does that attract in the manual. This way a culprit can't bribe a judge to send him to prison for 6 months or pay a fine after stealing billions of Naira.

Don't know much about the penal codes but I don't think such crime for punishment details are this precise. And precision is just what we need to fight corruption.
@Iolo:
That will equal a death penalty. Its more than 100yrs jail term under AMOUNT. If he have accomplice, they too will get their fair share.

We need brute force against corruption. Such effort must be universal in Nigeria. Not dealing with your enemies, finding a soft landing for colleagues and intervening your brothers and friends.

Why all these disgrace? Why is he borrowing for things we can do ourselves? So of all our problems, na to enter bus be the greatest?

$100 Million + Interest + Bonuses, access, exchange and things we will forfeit - just to still buy from them? We are more helpless than I hoped.

Each time I hear that ''high-powered delegation'' nonsense, I think Billions of Naira is about to be squandered,
And even worst, they giveaway everything that will make Nigeria money - Tax exemptions for years, free import duties, little oversight, allow them charge large fees.

Lets have you say on this proposals
Politics › Proposal To End Corruption In Nigeria by egift(op): 2:50pm On Nov 25, 2011
Nigeria's biggest problem is Corruption. Even other major challenges in this nation revolves round it. I believe that if we successfully clam down on corruption, over 70% of our problems will be solved.

Also most corruption issues in Nigeria is financial. Its always about money.

My Proposal
In order to set Nigeria free from the evil grip of corruption, I hereby propose that all financial crimes in Nigeria, should be based on the following:

AMOUNT
- N100,000 = 1yr jail term
- From 50yrs jail term should come with hard labour (but most be fully severed).
- Amount of money valued from a 100yrs and above, the jail term should attract capital punishment (death).
- If the money is returned in full, the culprit should serve one-third the term.
- If the recovered loot is anything less than the amount but more than half, half a jail term will apply.
- If any money is recovered at all, then two-third the jail term based on the first 3 proposals above.
- Aiding, abating and conspiring, should get half of whatever the main culprit got.

DAMAGE
Extra punishment should be given based on the number of people disenfranchised (deprived of benefits) due to that financial crime.
- 5 to 100 extra 6 months.
- In hundreds 1 year additional jail term.
- Extra 1year for every one thousand, not more than 10,000 people deprived.
- If 10,000 to 100,000 people where deprived of benefits, then add 10years.
- In millions not more than 10million, extra 20years to the jail term in AMOUNT above.
- If up to 50million Nigerians where deprived of benefits because someone stole money, then capital punishment.
- Also if the person did return part of the loot (in AMOUNT) and as well apologize (in DAMAGE category), half of his DAMAGE jail term will be reduced.
- If found to have threatened or attacked those affected during the trial, 50% of the DAMAGE jail term should be added to the actual DAMAGE term.

MOTIVATION
This is Nigeria where some will try to out-smart the system, so the circumstances or situation surrounding the financial crime should also matter. (This is for the culprit to support his case or for the prosecutors to squeeze the punishment).
- If the culprit intentionally committed the crime, the exact jail term should be awarded in full.
- If one was persuaded, forced or threatened to commit it, the one that did the forcing should bear the full punished and if the culprit benefited and did not report in full, should get half.
- If the culprit, was forced but later reported in full, should be allowed to walk free.
- If the culprit is threaten to do more, one-third of whatever he got should be added.

Financial crimes should be based on amount, motivation and damage done.
Politics › Re: List Of The Problems Affecting Nigeria by egift(op): 12:20pm On Nov 25, 2011
If all reported case of Corruption at all level are not swept under the carpet but severely punished even for a year, Nigerians will think twice about the implications before doing a thing.
Politics › Re: Suggest Your New Chairman Of Efcc To Mr President. by egift(m): 12:15pm On Nov 25, 2011
The truth is that EFCC requires someone who:
- Averagely is not corrupt, ready to die, and will not be afraid to step on anyone's head (as long as its the right steps).
- Someone with a name recognition that his/her legacy is feared by many.
- Someone you can just call in any useless type of favour to plea on your behave.
- Some that will tell your godfather "I do not have time to see you, get a good lawyer for your boys and meet us in court".
- Someone that can tell the President - "we are doing the right thing here, don't bother asking".
- The person can even ask the court to restrain even Mr. President from interfering in this investigation.
- Not a PDP member.
- A Nigerian that can go to Senate hearing and tell them he is ready to resign now if they do not want him to prosecute financial criminals.
- Even tell the Senators to be worried about their upcoming cases than to plea for someone else.

Sai Buhari - Only Buhari my people - imagine he was in charge.

Dora at NAFDAC is the one everybody is asking for.

Her ministerial adventure as Nigeria's town-crier was putting a round pole in a square hole. Even worse, she sounded like Beaf (of Nairaland) most things because she was in a position to defend the evil of PDP.

If Buhari steps in, many of our Politicians will embark on an emergency medical trip and vacations even before Buhari say a word.

The issue is:
Is Jonathan interested in a strong/independent EFCC leadership or a good stooge?

Until then we can know what to suggest to him.

That passage of the bible can only be applicable if there was an offence committed by the clergy. But a case where there's no offence. It's not bribery ,it's extortion.

Since this officer believes in the bible , What I will recommend the preacher to do is to show the officer Luke 3:14

Luke 3:14
And the soldiers likewise demanded of him, saying, And what shall we do? And he said unto them, Do violence to no man, neither accuse any falsely; and be content with your wages.

You people are always in a hurry on the road to nowhere. If Buhari is involved, he will be arrested, same goes for Tunde Bakare, IBB, Atiku, Ciroma and the host of other greasy "hero's" you have.
^^^
Beaf: This post of yours summarize the reason why you lost your respect where I am.

You will not blame a man that have been proven to be part of the PDP's masters who have founded and nurtured Boko Haram in order to intimidate opponents. But you are looking for ways to rope individuals whose name have not even surface on this matter.

My people imagine Beaf telling people not to hurry. How long does it take him to coin "Ayatollah Buhari and Atifku". Beaf you are very shameless.

Decentralize power from Abuja. Let states and local governments have more authority and responsibility (including the power to produce, use and sell - without begging Abuja).
