I think it all depends on individual circumstances , if say you have 500,000 naira and you might have need of that money for your immediate needs in about 3 to 4 months , then its bad idea for you to invest in PO , also individual risk taking ability should be considered here , easimoni i have read your webpage and i like whats is there , but the thing is it may not suite just about every individual cos of the above reasons .I have personally decided not to buy firstbank public offers, don't get me wrong this does not in anyway mean that the stock isn't a good one ,but when i read properly through the prospectus , i came to know that it may take me up to around November or December for me to be able to sell it ,now the money that i want to invest in firstbank offers i have decided to use it for stocks that would do well in about 1 to 3 months like C & i leasing , cornerstone and other stocks like that , so it all depends on individual situation .
InvestmentRe: First Bank's 100 Billion Naira Share Offer by egoldman(m): 3:57am On May 29, 2007
If you want to invest your money and let it stay there in the stocks you bought for over 1 year then IPO might good for you , but if u would like to get back your money in about 2 to 6 months then don't go for IPOs .
You stand to make more money when you do the IPOs, though this is not always the case , cos sometimes if you have a smart and honest broker you may also earn money with your money than someone who invested in IPOs and waited till they got they certificates to be able to trade .

I think that it would be a good idea if the NSE , would make it compulsory for all securities listed with it to have their own websites, same also goes for all the registered stockbrokers , this will improve things a lot .

The day we start to view people in any post from the competency point of view is the day we start moving forward , all this talk about tribes and zones would never move this nation forward, it would only make us more ethnic minded .

@ egoldman,
You are correct. Anyone who already owns shares (or by some miracle gets his certificate by that date) is free to sell. You don't even have to wait for that date. The wait for certificates is what precludes me from buying public offers. Let's hope the e-whatever makes things better.

BTW, do you know what your broker charges for transactions? Mine appears to be charging a lot more than the 2.23% in your previous post. I might have to threaten to move my account.
The new fees from my screenshot would take effect from the 1st of june according to SEC , if your broker charges u anything above the current fees as seen on the screenshot , then u need to ask them why .
meanwhile i would like to talk to you about some stuff if you dont mind , u may contact me denchuks@gmail.com same id also for yahoo messenger .
PoliticsRe: Igbo Igp Reality Or A Joke? by egoldman(m): 4:12pm On May 27, 2007
Cant we be ashamed to be reasoning like this ? why is it that unless someone from ur tribe is at the helm of affairs , you would always feel cheated ? who told you that having an igbo man means the lot of the igbos would be bettered ? almost all of our past leaders were from the north, have this made northerners better than the rest of Nigeria ? have the babangida , abacha and other northern ex leaders of Nigerian bettered the lot of the north ? the answer to all this is no and what it proves is that competence has nutting to do with ethnicity .
would the Yorubas say that obasanjo has made them better than the rest of Nigeria ? again the answer is no . so the IGP should be someone that is competent , someone that knows that he would not be there to protect his tribe , but to protect the interest of every single Nigerian no matter what state or tribe they come from .
This is why we have been slow in our democratic march , cos we assume that unless our tribe man is there , then we are been cheated . when will the time come for us to vote someone in government based on how competent they are and not cos of weather they are from our tribe or not ?until that day comes , i think we would just be deceiving ourselves thinking that we are practicing democracy .
Personally, i feel with what he has achieved with efcc , Ribadu is the best man for the job of IGP , let us come out of this tribal mentality bullshit and join the rest of the civilized world.
Now b4 they would call my head i am a pure igbo man ( okoro boy ) grin grin

I saw in the Firstbank prospectus that technical suspension would be lifted on existing shares on 5th of july 2007, does this mean that those who already have existing shares of first bank may start trading their shares from that date ? i ask because i already have some firstbank shares , but don't like the time it takes for them to send the certificates for the public offers ( heard the e-allotment might be faster )
PoliticsRe: Eu Parliament Wants Aid To Nigeria Stopped Until Fresh Polls by egoldman(m): 10:43am On May 27, 2007
The election was rigged and there is not doubt about that , however considering the Nigerian situation would it really be in the interest of peace that the election be reversed ?I don't really think so , though we didn't have a perfect election , the fact that we would be moving from one democratic government to another is some sort of achievement , we should build from there , those calling for reversal of the election processes do not really know what the impact would be to the stability of the nation .
meanwhile while we are here yapping about the the past election and weather eu should suspend aid or not , same eu who i feel have been practicing democracy for longer time us have just released 1.5 billion naira aid to Nigeria again .Does this mean they are not aware that the election as rigged ? I don’t think so .Below is the link to the news about the latest eu aid ;

Yeah i do that too but its not all of them that i get that way . i wish i could have some site where their websites are all listed .Its clear that several of the quoted companies do not actually have websites, i think the NSE should make this mandatory .

Here is something else that i think might be of some use to investors , below are the details of the new fees structures for buying and selling on the secondary market ;

It’s our lack of decency that will make someone to carry such amount of money. We think that we are above the law. Didn’t Andy Uba and OBJ do the same thing in the US. Nigerian elites are lawless people, so they see law as a mere piece of legal document meant for the weak.

He should rot in jail. This is the kind of diplomats we produce. A diplomat who does not understand the law of his host country.

Hello guys, i live in mumbai in India and i feel that i may know a bit more about this case than most people , so here is what i have to say ;
what the guy did was wrong , its pure crazy to carry such amount of money in cash , but plz dont forget the country involved here in the first place . Indians cant be trusted with anything that has to do with money , i say this from personal experience .
when this case first come up , the Indian press said its possible that this money was connected to the 2 or was it 3 Indians that are being held in Niger delta , but the Indian officials that intercepted the diplomat disputed this at once. why they did this i do not know , how they come to be sure that it was not meant for securing the release of those guys i don't know , or does anyone here think that ransom money like in the case of people kidnapped in Niger delta, are paid in and open and official ways ? even in Iraq and Afghanistan , ransom are paid by westerners to secure the release of their citizens and they never accepted that anyone was paid , but we all know that money exchanged hands b4 their citizens were released .
The second theory about the source of this money which i strongly suspect to be true is that , the high commission itself here may have inflated their budget and this guy was taking home for himself and some of the officials their share of the proceeds, we know the consulate guys here and we know this is very possible, but the indian officials didnt tow that line , though i don't expect them to , as all they would do is to give reasons why the money should be an Indian money .
The Indian officials said they suspect that the money was connected with the Nigerians drug syndicate operating in India, well this is nutting but a way of trying to see that the money is not returned to Nigerian government , for those that care to know , what you have in India as Nigerian drug dealers do not make such amount of money , ask anyone that has been here for sometime and they would confirm this for you , if this had happened in a place like London , the USA or Southafrrica or Columbia then such theory would hold water , but certainly not in india , but then this is a way of saying that the money would be their own .
in summary i have to say that i support the guy who said it would have been better if this guy was caught in Nigeria , so that the money would be kept with our government as we need every penny now , as for those that say he should be put into prison in india , well the immunity thing wont let that happen , they didn't arrest him as they don't have that power and they also don't have any power to try or prosecute him , the worst they would do is to ask Nigerian government that the captain be recalled .
i support that the guy be prosecuted now that he has traveled to Nigeria , but all the more i would like to know if the Indian officials would return the money to the Nigerian government , this am sure is where you would understand why am not happy that this money in their hands in the first place , you don't trust them with money , never .
