FORMER governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, yesterday, advised the Anglican Bishop of Ekiti Diocese, Rt Revd. Christopher Omotunde to relinquish his position as a cleric and join active politics. Fayose, through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Idowu Adelusi, was reacting to a statement by the Anglican Bishop describing Fayose’s tenure as a waste and non-beneficial to Ekiti people. Adelusi said: “Only a cleric, trying to justify the blatant rigging of the last Ekiti governorship election by the All Progressives Congress, APC, would describe the physical transformation of Ekiti by the Fayose administration as a waste. “Even the blind feels the good works of Fayose and perhaps Bishop Omotunde and the likes need to change their eye glasses to see well. “Our fathers have a saying that it is disheartening when one hears a statement of gullibility from a place where one expects to hear the words of wisdom. “The records of the Fayose administration are there for all to see. The Ekiti people, who Fayose served for almost eight years, know that his time was a great blessing to them, which is why they call him the architect of modern Ekiti. Bishop Omotunde should remove his priest’s garment and mount the soap box if he is minded to be this politically partisan.” Reacting to the Bishop’s comment about developmental projects from the Federal government to the state, Fayose said: “Assuming that was the case, it only confirmed President Muhammadu Buhari as an autocrat who must not be criticised, and not a democrat who should take criticisms in his stride. “We make bold to say that Ekiti State, under Fayose and PDP, has witnessed more economic and physical development in the last four years when compared to neighbouring APC-controlled states which have openly venerated President Buhari as their god-father. What has Ondo, Osun, Oyo, Ogun benefited from the Federal Government? What has even Lagos, where the APC national leader comes from, benefited?” http://kikiotolu.com/wasted-years-comment-youre-partisan-fayose-tells-anglican-bishop/

The Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has asked workers to collect their outstanding four months salary arrears from the incoming governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi. He said the monies he could have used to pay them as expected had been withheld by the Federal Government for Fayemi’s resumption. “They paid other states Paris Refund, they didn’t pay Ekiti; Fayemi should help me pay the money. “They didn’t pay N2.2bn Budget Support Fund; my promise is fulfilled but the money is in the hands of the federal government, they should help me to pay.” Fayose spoke on Wednesday during the inauguration of a new school he built in his Afao-Ekiti home country as part of his legacies projects. The governor told the gathering that he did not borrow money from anywhere to fund any of the projects. “With all these legacies projects, I didn’t borrow any dime. I do not owe any debt, if they say I’m owing; they should show evidence of transaction. “Besides, no governor can borrow without the knowledge of the Ministry of Finance and the Debt Management Office.” Fayose urged the incoming administration not to neglect the school or abandon any legacy project. He said the school named Gifted Academy International would receive students from Ekiti and outside on 50:50 ratio. “The school is equipped with modern equipment, laboratories, furniture and Closed-Circuit Television for surveillance,” he said. He urged the people of the town to preserve the heritage and support government in sustaining it. http://kikiotolu.com/hold-fayemi-responsible-for-your-salary-arrears-fayose-tells-ekiti-workers/ Lalasticlala Mynd44 Dominique Fynestboi MissyB3

In what could be described as divided loyalty to the strike declared by labour to press for a new national minimum wage, some workers in Ekiti State civil service reported for work on Thursday. Labour, through the National President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Com. Ayuba Wabba, on Wednesday directed all labour centres across the 36 states of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory to begin a nationwide warning strike today (Thursday). The strike began midnight Wednesday. When our correspondent visited the old Governor’s Office and the new Secretariat along Old Iyin Road at about 9.30am, some workers had reported at their duty posts while some were absent. The commercial motorcycle riders, commercial drivers as well as banks were also opened for business transactions in spite of the directive that there should be a total shut down of the country. Drivers and motorbike operators were seen plying major roads of Ado Ekiti in large numbers. The popular Erekesan market and shops located along Basiri-Ajilosun areas and other commercial nerve centres of Ado Ekiti were operating full-fledged businesses contrary to expectations of the people. Virtually all the private schools also opened for operation as their vehicles were seen conveying pupils as early as 6.30am. When asked why he decided to report to work, a worker told our correspondent that he did so because of the fear that other workers might not be enthusiastic to join the industrial action in Ekiti, since the state government could not even pay up to date even with the present N18,000 minimum salary scale . The NLC Chairman in Ekiti, Com. Ade Adesanmi, and that of TUC, Com. Odunayo Adesoye, on Wednesday directed that all public and private business centres should join the strike. http://kikiotolu.com/nationwide-strike-records-poor-compliance-in-ekiti/

The trend of kidnapping has again returned to Ekiti State with the abduction of a bus driver and two others. The driver whose name was given as Mr. Julius Ogunsemi was seized by suspected gunmen along Ikere-Igbara Odo Road at about 11.00 am. Sources revealed that the suspected kidnappers called family members of their captors on Thursday demanding for a ransom of N5 million before they could be set free. Ogunsemi, 70, was said to be carrying eight passengers in his Suzuki mini bus locally known as “Akoto” when the gunmen reportedly struck. The armed gunmen positioned themselves on a very bad portion of the road which forced vehicles to slow down before pouncing on their victims. The suspected kidnappers, who were said to be five in number, abducted three persons and allowed five others to go. They were said to have abandoned the mini bus about five kilometers from where they abducted and ferried their victims farther before taking them inside the forest. A family member who craved anonymity said: “What those who were in the bus told us was that, eight of them were in the bus around 11am. As they drove towards that route, five hefty men emerged from the bush and stopped the bus. “We were told that they were on a bad portion of the road where driver would have to slow down when these evil doers came out and started asking about the identities of those in the bus. “After doing the screening, they only abducted three of them and allowed others to go untouched. They drove them in that bus for over five kilometers before they dropped the bus and entered into the bush and took them in another vehicle”, he stated. “They have contacted the families of those abducted. What they demanded was N5 million ransom for the release of the trio. “They have only called once and they never called since they did that on Thursday. We are still establishing contacts with them but that has not been successful.” The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Caleb Ikechukwu, said the report of the kidnap was yet to reach the state command at press time. Ikechukwu said: “I don’t think the family has reported this incident to the police, because we are yet to be briefed here at the command. “But I want to assure that the police will swing into action and ensure their safe return as soon as we have truthful information about the incident”. http://kikiotolu.com/driver-two-passengers-kidnapped-in-ekiti-gunmen-demand-5million/ Lalasticlala Mynd44 Dominique Fynestboi MissyB3

The police have paraded one Chidi Okoye Christian, for alleged rape of female students of the Ekiti State University (EKSU). The suspect, who is not a student of the university, was arrested and paraded with his accomplice, Odunmbaku Kayode. Smartphones, ATM cards, a Raleigh bicycle, a cutlass and a pistol were recovered from him. Speaking at Iworoko Divisional Headquarters, Chief Security Officer at EKSU, Captain Tunde Ajayi (rtd), said seven students had been raped by Okoye in the last three months. Ajayi, who was flanked by the Investigating Police Officer, said most of the victims live in nearby Iworoko. The EKSU guard noted that the suspect usually carries a pistol with which he threatens his victims. Ajayi said: “With a good knowledge of the neighbourhood where Okoye himself resides, it was easy for him to unleash terror in the middle of the night and return to his room, which he shared with an accomplice, Kayode Odunmbaku. “Okoye confessed, and he was identified by his father, who told the police that the suspect has been a wayward boy who ran away from home. “The duo will be charged to court as soon as police conclude investigation”, the CSO added. http://kikiotolu.com/18-year-old-boy-reportedly-rapes-seven-university-students-in-ekiti/ Lalasticlala Mynd44 Dominique Fynestboi MissyB3

The Ekiti governorship election petition tribunal will continue its sitting in Abuja. The decision to relocate the tribunal from Ekiti state followed a request made by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the panel. When pre-hearing sitting commenced on Monday, Adebayo Adelodun, counsel to the PDP, had asked the panel to move the tribunal from the state high court to Abuja, citing security concerns. “My lord, on our way to the tribunal, we were accosted by some crowds with sticks. We were on a spot for several minutes until a senior police officer came to us,” he had said. “We have to be safe first, in life, safety comes first, we are professionals and we move around to do out job. Sir, we hereby request that this sitting should be shifted to another venue, probably Abuja because of safety.” The three-man tribunal chaired by Suleiman Belgore granted the application but didn’t disclose the new venue. “So on this, there is merit to this application, and it has been granted. The new venue and date will be communicated to all counsels within 48 hours,” Belgore said. Speaking to TheCable on Wednesday, a counsel to one of the parties involved confirmed Abuja as the new venue. According to the source who preferred to remain anonymous, the tribunal will commence sitting on Monday, September 24, at the Akpo high court judicial division, Abuja. Following the July 14 governorship election, the PDP had rejected the result announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Kayode Fayemi, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was declared winner of the poll, beating PDP’s Kolapo Olusola. In its petition, the PDP had alleged, among other things, that the election was marred by widespread electoral malpractices and disenfranchisement of its supporters. http://kikiotolu.com/ekiti-governorship-tribunal-moved-to-abuja/ Lalasticlala Mynd44 Dominique Fynestboi MissyB3

The Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, has said Economic and Financial Crimes Commission of having hates him and insisted that he would not appear before its officials for questioning before October 16. The outgoing governor whose tenure is set to expire on October 15 had earlier written to the commission that he would be available to answer questions from the operatives of the commission on the said date. However, the commission in its reply told the governor to make himself available on Thursday, September 20, 2018. But Fayose, in his reply on Tuesday, cited the danger of violating Section 308 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) which vested immunity on him as a sitting governor. Fayose said he was moved to write the commission after reading in the media of its directive to the Nigeria Customs Service and immigration to arrest him on fears that he could run away from the country before the expiration of his tenure. In the letter addressed to acting Chairman of the EFCC, Mr. Ibrahim Magu, a copy of which was made available to journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, Fayose chided the commission for what he called the “unprovoked personal hatred and malice against my person”. The governor said in consideration of events in the past few months, the EFCC had “Presumed my guilt even prior to the commencement of an investigation.” He added, “This raises a serious question about the impartiality, independence or neutrality of the commission in the matter,” adding that he felt “harassed, intimidated and embarrassed by the imputation of crime and the innuendos of criminality underlining your correspondence which has been maliciously circulated widely.” Source: http://kikiotolu.com/efcc-hates-me-ayodele-fayose/ Lalasticlala, Mynd44

Ekiti State government has said that over 1,500 forms have been sold to those interested in buying lock-up shops in the new Oja Oba market in Ado Ekiti, which is about 90 percent completed. Special Assistant to the State Governor on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka said in a statement issued on Thursday, that all previous shop owners, whose shops were demolished to pave way for the new market will be considered first in the allocation of the over 700 lock-up shops. Last week, the government had through open balloting, allocated the over 200 open shops in the market to beneficiaries that were expected to pay a sum of N200,000 for the outright purchase of each of the shops. It urged beneficiaries of the open shops to pay up or lose their allocations to those on the waiting list. The government said allocation of the lock-up shops will be done transparently, adding that "no amount of blackmail by those who did everything to frustrate the construction of the market will prevent the allocation of the shops to Ekiti people who are eager to resume business activities in the market. "It is funny that the same people who never wanted the market built are the ones now kicking against allocation of the shops, ostensibly to allow for the sharing of the shops among their cronies when they assume office. "They want to short-change those whose shops were demolished for the construction of the new market, but the government of Ayodele Fayose will not allow that. We will stand by the masses and protect them against the impending oppression. "In few days, the government will stop selling forms and will announce date for the allocation of the shops and give deadline for payment." A total of 48,000 Ekiti Youths have so far indicated their interest to and sat for the ongoing recruitment exercise advertised for only 2,000 vacancies into the various cadres in Ekiti State Public Service. The State’s head of Service, Dr Olugbenga Faseluka, in a statement sent to NAN, said the recruitment exercise was aimed at filling available vacancies in the public service. Faseluka, in the statement issued by his Media Officer, Enoch Seun, stated that the retirement of workers who were employed en masse between 1981 and 1982 by the Adekunle Ajasin- led government of the old Ondo State, had created a lot of vacancies in the Ekiti Public Service. The Head of Service said though there were more than 2,000 vacancies, the state government was merely filling 2,000 critical job vacancies. He explained that these category of workers who transferred their service on the creation of Ekiti State massively, exited between 2016 and 2017, having spent the mandatory 35 years in service. He insisted that the ongoing recruitment was the only major recruitment embarked upon by the present government in the last four years. He clarified that some categories of applicants such as sweepers, security guards and gardeners would not partake in the written examination but would be subjected to oral interviews because of the nature of their jobs. The Head of Service assured all applicants that the recruitment would be merit-driven and not based on political patronage, adding that successful candidates would still undergo interviews. http://kikiotolu.com/48000-applicants-compete-for-2000-jobs-in-ekiti-h-o-s/ Lalasticlala Mynd44 Dominique Fynestboi MissyB3

Members of gbado community, Gbonyin Local Government Area, in Ekiti state have staged a protest after a man hanged a commercial motorcyclist. A middle aged man, simply identified as Toyin a.k.a Toyin Yalayala, was reported to have hanged another man named Apeteshi on Thursday in a farm settlement in the community. Toyin reportedly employed the service of Apeteshi to convey him to his farm located in front of an abandoned factory belonging to Senator Gbenga Aluko, near Ode Ekiti. When they got to the venue, Toyin allegedly overpowered Apeteshi and hanged him with a rope. He then tried to bury him in a shallow grave he had already dug. But people who were at the shoe making factory heard the agonizing cry of Apeteshi and decided to check what was going on. When they arrived, it was already too late. Apeteshi was dead and they caught Toyin trying to bury him. The men apprehended Toyin and later handed him over to the nearest police station in the area. The deceased's wife is heavily pregnant and has been informed of her husband's death.
