PoliticsUnpaid Salaries: Ekiti Workers Chased Out Of Office by Ekiti360(op): 6:19pm On Aug 23, 2018
Unhappy at the lukewarm attitude of Governor Ayodele Fayose to the payment of their salary arrears, angry Ekiti workers on Thursday forcefully chased away their colleagues who have resumed to their duty posts at the State Secretariat in Ado Ekiti.

The workers, under the aegis of Ekiti Workers Rescue Team, said it was wrong for Governor Ayodele Fayose , who accused former Governor Kayode Fayemi of insensitivity for owing one month
salary in 2014 to have betrayed the trust and confidence the workers reposed in him that earned him victory in 2014.

The Workers, who were led by former Chairmen of Nigeria Labour Congress(NLC), Com Ayodeji Aluko and his counterpart in Trade Union Congress(TUC) , Com Kolawole Olaiya, accused the government of deceit over its commitment to defray between six and ten outstanding salaries being owed.

They began the protest at about 8.25am addressed the workers in front of the secretariat , where they ordered their members to leave their offices and begin an indefinite strike.

The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), in a statement by its State President, Bunmi Ajimoko had earlier told his staff of their third tier across Ekiti to begin a strike, but was later called off due to undisclosed circumstances.

The irate workers also dissolved the state executives of the NLC and TUC, headed by Comrades Ade Adesanmi and Odunayo Adesoye respectively, alleging that they have become passive and shying away from carrying out their responsibilities as labour leaders.

The leaders had hardly ended their speeches when the workers stormed the offices and started chasing away their colleagues with cudgels.

They also observed a minute silence in honour of their members who had died due to financial incapacitation engendered by epileptic salary payment .

Addressing the workers , Aluko said: “Today, we are dissolving the executives of NLC and TUC in Ekiti and they stand dissolved , because their leaders, Ade Adesanmi and Odunayo Adesoye have lost their values. They are no longer talking about the welfare of the workers they were expected to defend.

“We decided not to do this protest before election, so that they won’t read political meanings to it. Workers have died, just because they are not paid. In 2014, Governor Fayose said any governor who owed just a month salary because he is building infrastructure doesn’t worth being a governor.

“Today, the governor is owing pensioners ten months, LG workers eight months and civil servants and teachers are owed six months. We are not fighting Governor Fayose but he must pay the workers.

“Shortly after the election, Fayose quickly paid six month salaries and furniture allowances of political office holders, then what becomes of our teeming workers?

“It was sad that Adesanmi and Adesoye decided to give Fayemi three months moratorium to pay workers when assumed office, when they were practically doing nothing to ensure that Governor Fayose doesn’t leave office a debtor governor as he promised.

“We hereby declare indefinite strike commencing from today and only the national secretariats of both TUC and NLC can negotiate on our behalf, because we no longer trust the State leaderships of the two congresses”, he said.

In another leaflet circulated by the workers under the aegis of Ekiti workers Rescue Team, they accused the labour leaders of getting a sum of N14 million as mobilization from Governor Fayose to enlist their backing for the July 14 governorship election.

When contacted, the state commissioner for information, Lanre Ogunsuyi said the head of service should be contacted on the industrial action adding that politicians are not on strike in the state.

PoliticsI Will Complete All Outstanding Projects - Governor Fayose by Ekiti360(op): 7:18pm On Aug 21, 2018
Governor of Ekiti State , Ayo Fayose has reassured the people of the state that he would complete and deliver on all projects he has embarked on during his second tenure which expires on October 16.

The governor cited in particular the multi billion Naira ultra modern market that is nearing completion at the capital of the state, Ado Ekiti, assuring that the over 600 market people who were displaced when the old market was demolished would be first considered in sharing the new shops to the marketers.

This was just as hundreds of Ekiti people particularly indigenes of the state capital, Ado Ekiti, hailed him endlessly as he made his entry into the annual Udiroko festival being celebrated by the monarch of the city, Oba Aladesanmi Adejugbe, and the people of Ado.

Governor Fayose while addressing the teeming Ado indigenes at the Udiroko festival that took place inside the amphitheatre in Ewi’s palace on Tuesday, appreciated the the people of Ado Ekiti in particular for solidly supporting his government in appreciation of which he had ensured great developmental strides in the city as evident in the fly over, urban renewal projects, new market, 750 seater civic centre and amphitheatre inside the Ewi’s palace as well as many road network project that beautified the city.

He promised to keep in touch with them even after he has left office saying: ”

In and out of office we will continue to celebrate you. I appreciate all of you Ado Ekiti indigenes. And thank you immensely for your support.

We appreciate our own priceless Afe Babalola. You are not just a value added citizen, you are the value itself . you are a valuable citizen of Ado Ekiti.

“Anyone who comes to this palace of the Ewi will remember me as the governor who built this amphitheatre. I told you that I will perform and you have seen my performance. I will ensure that all those who were displaced when we demolished the old market are first considered in sharing the shops in the new ultra modern market which we will complete in few days.

” I appreciate you all Ado indigenes you had stood solidly behind us and I want you to stand solidly behind the Ewi of Ado of Ado after we have left office. My good works for you will bring me good fortunes.

“Even if my deputy was announced as the winner, I have an expiry date as governor of the state. It is not the man who governs that matters but what he has done for the people. History will judge me well on my performance as I have delivered on my mandate. I will ensure to work assiduously for the state till my last day in office.”

Lauding governor Fayise for the developmental strides he gave to the capital city, the Ewi of Ado said: “Generations yet unborn will appreciate what you did for Ado Ekiti .

“Fayose has demonstrated consistency . He promised to turn around Ado and he has indeed turned around the town. Ado is now a befitting state capital.

He said he was coming to deliver and he has delivered.

“When he said he was going to build this palace ampitheatre, I laughed because I never believed. But he did not only build the amphitheater as promised, he added a befitting hall to it.

For ever and ever, your name will be remembered in the history of Ado Ekiti.

As you will be living, I will pray the same prayer for each governor that comes here. You will not lose your wife and children.

Also lauding Fayose, Afe Babalola , founder of Afe Babalola University who is an indigen of Ado himself, said: ”

We had been working here in the Ewi’s palace before Governor Fayose came, but what he did here within three years is unparalleled.”.

CrimeOba Gbadebo Ogunsakin Stabbed To Death By Mentally Unstable Man In Ekiti by Ekiti360(op): 5:41pm On Aug 20, 2018
A man reported to be mentally unstable has stabbed a monarch to death in Ekiti state.

Odo-Oro-Ekiti, a community in Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti state, was thrown into mourning as its traditional ruler, Oba Gbadebo Ogunsakin, was stabbed to death earlier today.

Some residents, who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), said the traditional ruler was stabbed with a knife by a man suspected to be insane after a meeting of the traditional council.

A resident of the community, Mr Henry Olu, said the assailant was from the same royal family as the slain traditional ruler.

Olu said the assailant was earlier seen before the council meeting sitting on the throne and was chased away.

The monarch was stabbed by the assailant while he was attempting to enter his vehicle after the council meeting.

Another resident, who did not want his name mentioned, said:

”All we heard was a cry for help from the traditional ruler’s driver shortly after the council meeting.

“On getting there, we saw our traditional ruler in a pool of his blood with a knife in the chest.

”We tried rushing him to the hospital, but Oba Ogunsakin gave up the ghost.”

PoliticsBuhari’s Govt Driving Nigeria To Electoral Chaos - Fayose by Ekiti360(op): 11:08pm On Aug 19, 2018
2019 elections doubtful, Buhari’s govt driving Nigeria to electoral chaos - Fayose

Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose has described the yesterday by-election in Rivers State for Port Harcourt Constituency III State Assembly seat as another sad reality that votes of Nigerians will not be allowed to count at the 2019 election as the elections will be held at gun-point to achieve predetermined results.

The governor, who said it should now be obvious to all Nigerians apart from those who for partisan reasons have elected not to see anything bad in the destruction of the legacy of free, fair and credible conduct of elections bequeathed to the APC government of President Muhammadu Buhari, that Nigeria is in a state of anarchy, said the whole world must not leave the country to be driven into the pit of catastrophe because of the desperation of a few people to retain power.

In a release issued on Sunday, Special Assistant to the governor on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, quoted him as saying that “it is worrisome that the same way they invaded Ekiti State with over 50,000 armed security personnel last month and laid siege on the State for a whole week was how they invaded Rivers State yesterday with men of the State Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) that aided APC thugs to snatch election materials, including card readers and abduct INEC officials.

“Even INEC could not but point it out in its press statement announcing suspension of the election that miscreants and hoodlums accompanied by heavily armed security personnel in uniform stormed polling units, destroying and carting away electoral materials as well as holding electoral officers hostage.

“We thought that we have gone past this era of manipulated electoral process after the 2015 general elections, which brought the APC and President Buhari to power, the country has been taken back to the Stone Age by merging APC with INEC, police, military and other security agencies.”

He called for the arrest and prosecution of the policemen that took part in the shootings and snatching of election materials in Rivers State yesterday, saying “there are pictorial evidence of the policemen on the social media, the police authority must not sweep this under the carpet as usual.”

Governor Fayose said if election in just 142 polling units was so militarized, with gunshots everywhere, “time has come for Nigerians to rise up to this challenge of making sure that the democracy that they fought for is not destroyed by those whose only interest is to retain power in 2019.”

He said; “I warned Nigerians in 2015 and when this reign of tyranny started, I kept warning. Now; free, fair and credible election is dead in Nigeria and election has become what the ruling party must ‘win’ at gun-point.”

The governor challenged President Buhari to stop pretending as if he knew nothing about the electoral malfeasance going on under his watch, adding that “It is the interest of the President that is being protected and it is a disservice to a man who is close to 80 years to allow his country to be turned to a war zone just because he is seeking reelection.

PoliticsFayose Recruits 2000 Ekiti Teachers, Civil Servants As Fayemi Raises Alarm by Ekiti360(op): 12:19pm On Aug 18, 2018
Barely two months to the end of his tenure, the Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, is set to recruit 1000 teachers and another 1000 workers of different categories into the state’s civil service.

The move is currently creating angst within the camp of the governor–elect, Kayode Fayemi, who has rejected the move and called on the citizens to be wary of such employment.

But Mr Fayose has argued that the recruitment was in keeping with his promise to the people of Ekiti State.

A statement on Friday by the governor’s Special Assistant on Public Communication and New Media, Lere Olayinka, said the final process of the recruitment exercise had commenced.

“In addition to the forms already obtained free of charge by the applicants, forms are now available at the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Civil Service Commission, Ministry of Health and other relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies,” he said.

“Forms for applicants seeking employment into the junior cadres of the public service are available at N500 each while those for the senior cadres are N1,000 each till August 24, 2018.”

Mr Olayinka berated Mr Fayemi and his party, APC, for criticising the recruitment exercise.

“With less than two weeks to the end of his tenure in 2014, Fayemi appointed eight permanent secretaries and they are still in office up till now,” Mr Olayinka recalled.

“He also recruited several workers behind closed doors and they are still in the service.”

He stated that Mr Fayemi should wait till October 16 when he would be sworn in governor, rather than acting as an “alternate government.”

“It is on record that Governor Fayose announced in January this year that recruitment will be made into the state public service and this was followed up with distribution of employment forms in May,” Mr Olayinka further said.

“This was consequent upon the existing vacancies in the public service, especially the teaching sector. There are schools without adequate teachers in critical subjects like Mathematics, Physics, English and others. So the students that are resuming in September should wait till Fayemi assumes office?

“Most importantly, Fayose will carry out all the functions of his office till October 16 and since there is need to employ workers, the government will do so through a transparent process.

“Isn’t it funny that the same APC people that criticised the government for constructing a modern Oja Oba Market in Ado Ekiti are now kicking against allocation of the shops to the people? So Governor Fayose should build the market for Fayemi to come and allocate the shops to his cronies?

“The APC in Ekiti State should therefore be reminded that there is still a government in the State and that government will not change until October 16, 2018.”

Earlier, Mr Fayemi had described the last minute move by the outgoing administration of Governor Fayose to recruit the workers as a deliberate effort to put obstacles in the way of the in-coming administration.

A statement by the Director of Media and Publicity in the Office of the governor-elect, Wole Olujobi, berated Mr Fayose for embarking on a last minute mass recruitment to allegedly deceive the unsuspecting victims and set a booby-trap for the incoming administration.

He said Mr Fayose was playing on the intelligence of the people to paint a picture of a man of the masses in clear infraction on the law.

“It is a grand deception and sheer wickedness for a governor that has refused to pay workers and pensioners for between six and 10 months to now turn around to recruit about 2,000 workers in a selective manner to favour his supporters only,” said Mr Olujobi.

He also described the governor’s planned recruitment as an act of desperation by a governor who never cared for the people but would always take advantage of them in a most dehumanising manner.

“Once again, we call on Ekiti people as we did in our recent press release to be wary of Fayose’s last minute illegal deals, transactions and mass recruitment which do not follow due process,” he added.

“Any transaction so done shall be reviewed by the incoming administration.”

Jobs/VacanciesEkiti Govt Commences Recruitment Of Graduates, Fixes Examination Date by Ekiti360(op): 12:43am On Aug 18, 2018
The Ekiti State Government has commenced the process of recruitment of fresh hands into all cadres in the State Public Service.

The Chairman of the State Civil Service Commission, Mr. Wale Komolafe who made this known in Ado Ekiti, said that applicants would undergo competitive examination to ensure that only potential capable hands were injected into the Public Service.

Komolafe explained that the examinations slated for Tuesday, August 28th, 2018 would hold simultaneously to discourage multiple applications and avoid the possibility of any of the applicants getting multiple appointments.

Mr. Komolafe advised interested applicants to obtain employment application forms at the offices of the State Civil Service Commission, the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), the Local Government Service Commission, Hospital Management Board and the Teaching Service Commission.

He added that applicants that had obtained registration forms should submit them with their completed employment application forms.

CrimeShooting In Ado-ekiti As RTEAN Members Clash Over Leadership by Ekiti360(op): 5:59pm On Aug 14, 2018
There was sporadic shooting in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, on Tuesday as members of the Road Transport Employers Association (RTEAN) were locked in a bitter struggle for the leadership of the body.

There was panic in the city for several hours as many residents were reportedly wounded during the clash.

Loyalists of the incumbent chairman, Samuel Agbede and former chairman, Rotimi Olanbiwonnu, reportedly launched attacks against one another following the takeover of RTEAN motor parks by supporters of the former.

Agbede is a loyalist of outgoing Governor Ayo Fayose while Olanbiwonnu is a loyalist of incoming Governor Kayode Fayemi.

Areas like Okeyinmi, Old Garage and Ijigbo were turned to war zones by that rampaging drivers as several gunshots rent the air sending many residents scampering to safety.

The attack sacked the popular Erekesan Market, also known as Oja Oba as business activities were paralyzed.

The mayhem forced shop owners in the areas to hurriedly close for the day and headed home to avoid being caught in the crossfire by unionists.

Many residents sustained injuries in a bid to escape from the scene while traffic came to a standstill as motorists and motorcyclists diverted to other routes.

Armed policemen were drafted to the flashpoints of violence while many people were said to have been arrested.

Crisis has been rocking RTEAN following the discharge and acquittal of Olanbiwonnu and six others who were on trial for alleged complicity in the murder of former National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) Chairman, Omolafe Aderiye.

Aderiye was killed on September 25, 2014 and the trial of the accused persons at an Ekiti State High Court ended on January 27 when they were set free after nearly four years in prison custody.

The latest violence was reportedly sparked by the alleged arrest of Olanbiwonnu by the police which his loyalists believed was another attempt to detain him perpetually.

Reacting to the mayhem, police spokesman, Caleb Ikechukwu, claimed that nobody had been arrested at press time.

Ikechukwu, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said the situation has been put under control while the warring factions have been invited to ensure peace.

He said policemen have been deployed in all the affected areas and have the mandate to protect lives and property.

CrimeMan Shot Dead In Ado Ekiti (Graphic Photo) by Ekiti360(op): 3:59am On Aug 14, 2018
There was panic in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti state capital on Monday evening as another man was killed by unidentified gunmen in daylight.

The News Agency of Nigeria, (NAN) reports that the killing of the man, whose identity could not be immediately ascertained, came barely three days after a close ally of former Gov. Segun Oni, Mr. Bunmi Ojo was assassinated in the capital.

Witnesses said the man was shot at a junction close to the end of the newly constructed overhead bridge at the Okesa/Ojumose Area of the ancient town at about 5:30pm.

According to the witnesses, the victim, who was said to be a passenger on a commercial motorcycle, popularly called Okada, was allegedly pursued to the area where he was later killed by his assailants.

NAN learnt that the killers who also came to the scene on another Okada, ordered the operator of the commercial motorcycle conveying the victim to stop at the spot where he was killed and sped-off immediately they achieved their aim.

However, the assailants spared the operator of the Okada.

The body of the shot passenger had since been moved to an undisclosed hospital by sympathisers who felt he could still survive, as he bled profusely.

The incident led to sudden closure of many shops in and around the Bisi Market located close to the area by their owners, even as many residents who either witnessed or got wind of the killing hurriedly left for their homes .

When contacted, the police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO) for the state command, DSP Caleb Ikechukwu told NAN that the command was yet to be briefed by the Divisional Police Officer, (DPO) of the Okesa Division.

PoliticsEkiti People In Pain Over Apc’s Victory - Fayose by Ekiti360(op): 10:42am On Aug 13, 2018
Governor Ayo Fayose has claimed that the people of Ekiti State are in pain over the victory achieved by the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in the July 14 governorship election.

Fayose alleged that the APC stole the mandate belonging to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) claiming that the opposition cannot celebrate the victory.

He assured that the Election Petition Tribunal will give the mandate to the PDP candidate, Prof. Kolapo Olusola, urging party faithful to remain calm as it launches a legal battle to claim the governorship seat from the APC.

APC candidate, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, was declared the governor-elect by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Fayose who spoke on Sunday while hosting PDP aspirants for House of Assembly, House of Representatives and Senate at the Governor’s Office, Ado-Ekiti urged party supporters to keep hope alive until the mandate is won in the court.

He also assured aspirants for state and federal legislative seats of level playing field ahead of primaries saying their destinies are tied to his own

Fayose said: “We will reclaim our mandate. Let me assure you that my destiny is tied to yours and I will continue to be committed to this cause until you retrieve you mandate.

“The journey of life is beyond today, we have seen today but no one has seen tomorrow. I believe God will return this mandate.

“I appreciate your courage. Life is full of challenges and gives opportunities. Certain things happen for you to know who your real friends are. It gives you the stamina to carry on also.

“Ekiti people and even your distractors will celebrate you. For me I have done in my best for the election, we won and I have no doubt that we will win the battle again.

“Keep hope alive for beyond you, Ekiti people out there are in pain. Go to town you will see that the people who stole the mandate cannot celebrate it as the common man there are more pained.

“Keep body soul and spirit alive because I am sure we will be victorious. It doesn’t matter how close anybody is with me, if he comes to tell you that Fayose has picked me, tell him that he is a fool. I expect everyone to sell himself to the people.

“They who had witnessed my second tenure in spite of all odds and doubts, will also live to witness Olusola’s return as governor of Ekiti. Contest this poll in your own honour. There is a level playing for everybody to contest. I assure you.”

PoliticsPDP Has No Strong Grounds To Upturn Fayemi’s Victory, Says APC Chieftain by Ekiti360(op): 7:45am On Aug 10, 2018
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State, Mr. Akinluyi Kolawole, has declared that he was confident that the governor-elect in the state, Dr Kayode Fayemi will survive the judicial onslaught against him by the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) on the outcome of the July 14 governorship election.

Kolawole, a House of Representatives aspirant in Ekiti North Federal constituency II in the coming 2019 general elections, said Fayemi’s second coming was divinely arranged by God to save Ekiti from bad governance being experienced under Governor Ayodele Fayose.

Speaking on the ongoing petition filed by the candidate of the PDP in the election, Prof. Kolapo Olusola, claiming that the election was rigged, Kolawole stated that the petitioner would be shamed in the end for allegedly trying to subvert the mandate freely given to APC under a free and fair contest.

The party chieftain said allowing the will of Ekiti to prevail could have been the most honourable thing for the PDP to do on the outcome of the election, saying the dangerous step taken would further affect the fortunes of the party after quitting office.

He said the APC was determined to present more damaging evidence about how its members allegedly perpetrated electoral robbery during the election, adding that turning out to blame APC for their woes indicated that the party was bereft of the right strategies to win election.

“It was rather unfortunate that the PDP could be desperate to as far as trying to upturn the mandate freely given to Dr Fayemi and our party in the election. Where were they when Governor Fayose was destroying the party by sending away valuable politicians that could add value to Olusola’s ambition? He chased away all those politicians he thought could be a threat to his continuity agenda and he started raising spurious allegations against the opposition when it boomeranged .

“As Governor Fayose was doing this, APC was consolidating putting his house in order. All the 33 aspirants that contested against Fayemi worked for our party conscientiously in the election when the PDP house was burning because of Governor Fayose’s narrow interest,” he explained.

CrimeMan Kills Father, Commits Suicide In Efon Alaaye Ekiti State by Ekiti360(op): 3:36am On Aug 09, 2018
A 32-year-old man, Lekan Adediran, has stabbed his 80-year-old father, Lawrence, to death after which he killed himself.

Lekan, who is believed to be suffering from mental illness, killed his father on Monday in Efon Alaaye, headquarters of Efon Local Government Area of Ekiti.

The News Agency Nigeria reports that the state police command had confirmed the incident, saying an investigation into the incident had started.

Eyewitnesses said Lekan killed himself with the same broken bottle he used in stabbing his father.

The culprit’s elder brother, Ojo Adediran, who reported the case at the Efron Divisional Police Station, said his brother was mentally unstable, adding that he committed the offence at 9.45pm.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Ekiti, Deputy Superintendent of Police Caleb Ikechukwu, said the corpses of the two victims had been deposited at the morgue of General Hospital, Efon Alaaye.

Lekan’s brother approached the police station in Efon Alaaye to report how his brother killed their 80-year-old father with a broken bottle and also killed himself after succeeding in his devilish act.

Their corpses are presently at Efon General hospital for autopsy. However, the police had been able to maintain peace and orderliness in the town.

We are not relying on the accounts rendered to the police by the victim’s brother alone.

We are still going to conduct an investigation to ascertain the veracity of the claim of insanity and the reason behind the killing and the subsequent suicide option taken by Lekan, he said.

PoliticsNIPR Appeals For Reopening Of Ekiti Broadcasting Service by Ekiti360(op): 7:32am On Aug 07, 2018
Members of the Ekiti State chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) have appealed to the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) for the reopening of the Broadcasting Service of Ekiti State (BSES), shut down in the wake of July 14 governorship election in the state.

The NIPR, however, pleaded with NBC to be compassionate in considering the immediate reopening of the broadcast station if only for the sake of the employees of the organisation, who are now bearing the burden and effects of the closure of the station,” the group pleaded.

This was even as the public relations professionals congratulated the Ekiti State Governor-elect, Dr. John Kayode Fayemi on his victory and election at the recently held gubernatorial election. Rising from its monthly business meeting, held at Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, the NIPR, which reviewed the outcome of the recent poll, commended the people of the state for the prevailing peace before, during and after the election. The institute in a statement signed by its state Chairman, Prince Ade Adeyemi-Adejolu, urged the governor-elect to see his election as a call to service to better the lots of the people of the state, and as an opportunity to rededicate himself to the noble ideals for which the Ekiti State and its people are known for.

Meanwhile, the group pleaded with Fayemi to be magnanimous in victory by seeing the entire state as his constituency irrespective of political and religious leaning, calling on other candidates at the poll to be gallant in defeat, bearing in mind that if they didn’t win today, there would always be another day.

“We further urged Ekiti people and all political stakeholders to appreciate the prevailing peace after the election as an opportunity to come together as one to build the Ekiti dream of their forebears for the benefits of generations yet unborn,” the statement added.

PoliticsEkiti Poll: Tribunal Grants APC Order To Inspect Election Materials by Ekiti360(op): 6:04pm On Aug 06, 2018
The Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Ado Ekiti on Monday granted the prayers of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to inspect election materials and results of the July 14 governorship election in the state.

The APC was represented at the tribunal by Yomi Ariyo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, who led six other counsel.

Justice Suleiman Belgore, while granting the prayers gave reasons for granting the application which was filed on July 31.

He said the counsel had sought the order of the court to access the election materials in order to make photocopy of the documents of the election materials and to use forensic equipment to view the handwriting of the election result and the fingerprint of the election materials.

The request, he also said, was to obtain and photocopy all the election materials which were also in custody of the first respondent, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He added that the request was to seek forensic experts to access both machine and other materials used in the conduct of the election.

The tribunal chairman granted the application, saying this was also approved for the PDP.

Kikiotolu reports that APC candidate, Dr Kayode Fayemi, was declared the winner of the election by the Chief Returning Officer, Prof. Idowu Olayinka, after securing 197,459 votes.

The PDP candidate and current Deputy Governor, Prof. Kolapo Olusola, scored 178,121 votes.

PoliticsLinking Me With APC Is Like Associating Me With Armed Robbers – Fayose by Ekiti360(op): 8:06am On Aug 06, 2018
Governor of Ekiti, Ayodele Fayose on Sunday said that linking him with any All Progressive Congress (APC) leader is like associating with armed robbers

Fayose made this known on his Twitter handle.

Also Also Lere Olayinka his aide has denied a reports that Fayose visited Senator Bola Tinubu in Lagos today.

He said that ‘I remain in PDP and those associating me with the APC can continue to celebrate their own political self deceit. Together we must rescue Nigeria and its people from the APC tyrannical govt.’

Linking me with any APC leader is like saying that I’m associating with armed robbers who stole the mandate of Ekiti people. If it will remain one man that will continue to stand against the tyrannical govt of Buhari and his APC, that one man will be Peter Ayodele Fayose.

— Peter Ayodele Fayose (@GovAyoFayose) August 5, 2018

I remain in PDP and those associating me with the APC can continue to celebrate their own political self deceit.

Together we must rescue Nigeria and its people from the APC tyrannical govt.

— Peter Ayodele Fayose (@GovAyoFayose) August 5, 2018
Lere Olayinka denying Fayose’s meeting with Senator Tinubu ans photo in circulating showing that Fayose visited Senator Bola Tinubu in Lagos today said : ‘Here is the picture APC goons are circulating as one taken when Gov Fayose visited Tinubu in Lagos today.

‘I used the picture on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 (See circle in red).
‘Let me state it expressly that Governor Fayose is not coming to the APC and he did not meet any Tinubu today. Linking him with the APC is like linking the governor with armed robbers who stole the mandate of Ekiti people.

‘If it will remain just one man that will continue to stand against the APC tyrannical govt of Buhari, that one man will be Peter Ayodele Fayose. He remains in PDP.

‘If the dying party, APC is looking for credible people as members that will be available for its final demise, count Fayose out.

‘Governor Fayose remains committed to the task of rescuing Nigeria and its people from the APC and its tyrannical government and no amount of threat, intimidation and blackmail will make him to even consider joining the party, APC.

PoliticsEkiti Election: Olusola’s Petition Will Strengthen Democracy, Says Fayemi by Ekiti360(op): 6:52am On Aug 05, 2018
The Ekiti Governor-elect, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has hailed the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the July 14 governorship election, Prof. Kolapo Olusola, for going to the tribunal in the resolution of the dispute arising from the Ekiti election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission had declared Fayemi of the All Progressives Congress as the winner of the election.

But on Friday, the PDP’s candidate filed his petition at the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, seeking to upturn the victory.

Olusola claimed he scored the majority lawful votes cast in the election, as according to him, the poll was marred by results falsification, ballot stuffing and ballot snatching.

A statement by the Director of Media and Publicity of Kayode Fayemi Campaign Organisation, Wole Olujobi, said filing the action was the right of the petitioner as it would strengthen democracy.

“Even though it is the petitioner’s right to seek legal redress in his complaint, it is a fact that the July 14 governorship election that returned Dr Kayode Fayemi is one of the best elections conducted by INEC in this country in which the will of the people was freely expressed.

“For this reason, Fayemi won one of the best, freest and fairest elections in Nigeria as attested to by the elite election monitoring group, Transition Monitoring Group, which rattled Governor Ayodele Fayose, who thereafter assembled fake observers’ group populated by PDP members who tried to discredit the exercise.

“We won the election in a very free and fair manner and we have no doubt that the tribunal will find this to be the case too in their final judgement.

“Judgement on the petition will be in accordance with the law and not to the terms of the petitioner, and so Eleka cannot be a judge in this case as he sought to do in his petition.

“Now that he has filed his petition, he should leave the tribunal to decide if he won or not and not to prejudge, as the petitioner tried to do in his complaint to the tribunal.”

The statement, however, faulted claim by the petitioner that APC members and Ekiti people, in general, did not celebrate Fayemi’s victory.

“Immediately results started trickling in, almost all towns and communities erupted in jubilation.

“In Ikere-Ekiti country home of the PDP candidate, there was blaring of horns and trumpets while all relaxation points were jam-packed by a deluge of revellers celebrating their freedom from a callous and greedy administration of PDP that reversed all the fortunes recorded by Fayemi’s administration between 2010 and 2014.”

Fayemi also faulted Olusola for complaining that the closure of Ekiti radio was part of measures to rig the election.

“It is baffling that Eleka, who conspired with Fayose to commit treason by illegally seizing a radio station to criminally announce a fake result, still had the temerity to complain that the closure of the station is part of measures to rig the election,” the statement added.

PoliticsSoyinka: Obasanjo Humiliated Bola Ige, Knelt Down For Atiku by Ekiti360(op): 7:58am On Aug 03, 2018
Wole Soyinka: Obasanjo Frustrated & Humiliated Bola Ige, Knelt Down For Atiku To Secure 3rd Term Ticket

Prof. Soyinka has revealed how ex president Obasanjo knelt down for then VP Atiku Abubakar in his desperate bid to secure the ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2003 poll.

The revelation came yesterday as the Nobel laureate gave a rare insight into the high-stake lobbying and negotiations that preceded the PDP’s presidential primaries in which Atiku was highly favoured to win at the expense of his then boss Obasanjo.

Besides, Soyinka spoke on how genuine efforts by Chief Bola Ige to reposition the energy sector as Power Minister between 1999 and 2000 were sabotaged by Obasanjo.

Soyinka was replying a question at a special reading session to mark the presentation of his latest book, “ Quis Custodiet Ipsos Custodes?: Gani’s Unfinished Business” , at the Freedom Park, Lagos.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Louis Odion, one-time Edo State Information Commissioner and The Nation columnist, asked the literary giant whether he believed a sensational claim last year by Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose of witnessing Obasanjo going down on his knees in Tripoli before the late President Muamar Ghaddafi in his desperate bid to secure the Libyan strongman’s support for an extension of his chairmanship of the African Union (AU), since the former Nigerian President has neither denied nor confirmed the account.

Fayose’s account was published by an Abuja-based monthly magazine, The Interview.

Ghaddafi was younger than Obasanjo. Libya is smaller in size and population compared to Nigeria.

Responding, Soyinka said he had no cause to doubt Fayose, given his knowledge of how Obasanjo did the “unthinkable” when his aspiration for a second term in office was similarly threatened in 2003.

Said he: “Before the PDP primaries in January 2003, Obasanjo got everyone he knew could reach me on the surface on the earth including Yemi Ogunbiyi and my son, to get me to help him intercede when it was clear that (Abubakar) Atiku was in a position to take his job. He knew Atiku had a lot of regard for me and calls me ‘Uncle’.”

In the now famous BBC interview few days to PDP’s 2003 primaries, Atiku had declared that he was under tremendous pressure from his supporters to contest the ticket against Obasanjo but was yet to make up his mind in what triggered panic in Obasanjo’s camp.

“The pressure was intense,” the literary giant recounted. “Of course, I could not have knelt before Atiku not to embark on a course of action that would lead to his boss’ disgrace. But I can confirm to you that Obasanjo as President knelt down before Atiku so that he would not lose his job.

“But I warned Atiku that for making Obasanjo to kneel down for you, be sure you would have to pay heavily for that. I guess my warning came to pass if you remember Atiku’s dramatic change of fortune once Obasanjo was sworn in for a second term of office.”

Dispelling the notion that the long-running disagreement he has with Obasanjo is personal, Soyinka said his motivation is the desire that those he described as cause of the nation’s problems do not continue to recycle themselves as the solution.

He also dismissed Obasanjo as a hypocrite for denying that he did not have a hand in the third term agenda in 2006.

Said the playwright:

“I remember I was invited to a conference in Germany around the time the third term game was unfolding in Nigeria. Then, I received this frantic call from officials at the Nigerian embassy who confided in me that they had been told to prepare for Obasanjo’s third term in office. They expressed fears that should it succeed, the country might be plunged into a serious crisis. They were of the view that I could use my leverage to talk to him or help mobilise public opinions to dissuade him.

“At the conference proper, I made sure I continually made poignant innuendos in the direction Obasanjo sat that day. But, typically, he kept shrugging his shoulders and looking the other way.

“But when the opportunity came for a closer interaction at the dinner, I pointedly told him that ‘Obasanjo, you know you cannot try third term’. Suddenly, he charged back at me, saying, ‘Wole, you only have one vote!’ I remember the Nigerian envoy then to Germany, Prof. Tunde Adeniran, jovially remarked that, ‘Ah, Mr. President, Wole Soyinka has more than one vote o. You know when he says anything, people listen across the world.’

“As soon as Obasanjo left the venue, I told Adeniran that ‘with what you’ve just said, be sure you’ve lost your job’. True, soon afterwards, Adeniran lost his job.”

Corroborating Soyinka, Falana said contrary to Obasanjo’s continued denial, the former US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice alluded in her book to how the former Nigerian leader prevailed on George Bush to support his third term bid. This, Falana said, Obasanjo never refuted.

On the parlous energy situation in the country, Soyinka recalled that Obasanjo did not only frustrate Ige but also humiliated him.

He said: “This was a man who said after Bola Ige died that we put somebody there, Bola Ige who did not know his left from right. He owes Bola Ige for maligning him, after humiliating him after sabotaging his genuine efforts to transform the power sector. It was sabotage and nothing less than a terrorist act against the electricity supply of the country.

“Bola Ige was frustrated and his works sabotaged. In fact, he had done his homework before he took office. He summoned a group of experts and mapped out the transformation of the sector. But, he was sabotaged from the inside. Bola Ige asked Obasanjo to remove one Suleman Bello, who was the managing director of the corporation then. The consequences we are suffering today. Obasanjo collaborated and protected the system headed by Mr. Suleman Bello. I dare Obasanjo to meet me one on one on any podium to debate the power project.”
