Politics / Re: Nigeria Close To Becoming A Failed State, Says Financial Times Of London by Ekotech1980: 3:35pm On Dec 22, 2020
“President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015 pronounced Boko Haram technically defeated’. That has proved fanciful. Boko Haram has remained an ever-present threat. If the latest kidnapping turns out to be its work, it would mark the spread of the terrorist group from its north-eastern base."

WILL THEY TAKE NOTE OF THE DANGER SIGNALS.

Politics / Nigerians Now The Poorest People In The World by Ekotech1980: 2:10pm On May 31, 2019
The Economist Magazine has, in its review on Thursday, revealed that Nigerians became poorer, and in fact, have become the poorest citizens of a country in the whole world, under President Muhammadu Buhari’s first term in office.

The Economist also said that Nigerians will even become poorer in the years to come as average income per Nigerian, according to it, will continue to fall for the next six years, haven continually fallen for the last four years that Buhari came in.

Likening Nigeria’s economy to the long lines of Trailers on queues heading to Apapa port, the Economist said Nigeria’s economy is “stuck like a stranded truck.”
This is despite the growth claimed by the National Bureau of Statistics that “Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew by 2.01%(year-on-year), in real terms, in the first quarter of 2019.”
But the Economist claimed that “by 2030 a quarter of very poor people will be Nigerian.” It said while the inflation is at 11%, some 94m Nigerians live on less than $1.90 a day.
According to the report, “Long lines of lorries stretch like tentacles from Apapa port, the largest in Nigeria. Drivers doze in their cabs, feet flung over dashboards; some sling hammocks beneath the chassis.
“Musa Ibrahim, an ebullient trader, says he has been queuing for two days. He gestures at empty buildings. “Most of the companies you see here they done close,” he sighs.
“The Nigerian economy is stuck like a stranded truck. Average incomes have been falling for four years; the IMF thinks they will not rise for at least another six.
“The latest figures put unemployment at 23%, after growing for 15 consecutive quarters. Inflation is 11%. Some 94m people live on less than $1.90 a day, more than in any other country, and the number is swelling.
“By 2030 a quarter of very poor people will be Nigerian, predicts the World Data Lab, which counts such things.”

Crime / Sallah Celebrations Put Off In Buhari’s Daura by Ekotech1980: 2:35pm On May 28, 2019
WHEN Muslims all over the world celebrate Eid-Fitr, next week, their counterparts in Daura, Katsina State, the birth place of President Muhammadu Buhari, will not be part of it. Reason: The Daura Emirate Council has suspended all activities lined up to mark the Sallah celebration in the emirate due to insecurity.
This came as Northern Governors, yesterday, met behind closed doors with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential villa, Abuja, where they lamented that banditry and kidnapping in the region were becoming more threatening than Boko Haram insurgency.
Also, the Presidency said yesterday that it could not guarantee whether or not the President Buhari administration will put an end to the Boko Haram insurgency.
Some parts of Katsina have remained hotbeds of banditry, killings and kidnapping in recent times claiming scores of lives. Indeed, 34 people were, last week, murdered in some parts of the state by unknown gunmen, an incident which made the state government to assent to a law that prescribed capital punishment for kidnapping, cattle rustling and armed robbery.
The district head of Daura, Alhaji Musa Umar-Uba, was recently kidnapped at his residence in Daura by unknown gunmen and since the incident, no contact was made with him or his abductors and the ancient town has been gloomy. Malam Abdulmumini Salihu (Danejin Daura) made the disclosure on behalf of the emirate council in a statement issued in Daura, yesterday.
Salihu said that the suspension of the Sallah activities was due to the recent security breaches bedeviling some parts of the state.
He said the recent happenings which led to the kidnap and brutal killings of some innocent citizens of the state were saddening and unfortunate. The emirate said it would use the period to commiserate with the government of the state, citizens and victims’ relations over the unfortunate development. It added that during the day, only two raka’at Eid prayers would be observed after which marathon prayers and supplication would be conducted to invoke divine intervention over the precarious security challenges.
The council, however, directed all the 16 district heads, 245 village heads and ward heads, to organize and supervise prayers in their areas of jurisdictions, with a view to achieving lasting peace and stability nationwide.
Politics / Breaking: Resign Now, Deputy Chair Tells Oshiomhole by Ekotech1980: 2:17pm On May 28, 2019
In the aftermath of its loss of Zamfara state to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party PDP, fresh crisis have again hit the ruling All Progressives Congress APC as the Deputy National Chairman, North, Sen. Lawali Shuaibu is up in arms against the party’s National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.

In a six-page letter dated May 27th, 2019, and addressed to the Chairman, Shuaibu held that in advanced democracies, people who fail to add value or build over and above what they met on assumption of duty show some civilised examples, “they honourably resign.”

The letter titled “APC: Its fortune and misfortune, time to act!” also said “It is my honest opinion that your ability to ensure this party flourishes is deficient as you lack the necessary composure and you also don’t posses the capabilities and the requisite experience to run a political party.”

Politics / Stop Cabal Embarrassing Your Government, G9 Tells Buhari by Ekotech1980: 3:50pm On Jan 19, 2019
As reported by ThisDay:
Muhammadu Buhari President Muhammadu Buhari has been called upon to immediately stop the cabal that has consistently embarrassed his government from further dragging his administration in the mud. In a release by the G9, the umbrella body of all Self-Determination groups in the country and signed by its Convener Akogun Tola Adeniyi, the Jagun Oodua, the body laments what it calls the enthronement of dangerous double standards and provocative precedents.
G9 cites the cases of Ali Modu Sheriff’s alleged laundering of N300 billion Borno funds, ex-Governor Adamu Muazu’s alleged corruption, ex-Governor Yuguda’s alleged money laundering, Senator Kwankwaso’s alleged diversion of N3.08 billion LGs funds, Shekarau’s alleged N950 million fraud, the Wamako case, Akpabio’s alleged N108 billion fraud. Orji Kalu’s alleged N3.2 billion fraud, and several other cases that were swept under the carpet once the alleged ‘fraudsters’ joined the ruling APC. So many other recent alleged frauds perpetrated by big names in the current administration that were left untouched were also cited. And yet the same Government pretending to be fighting corruption is vilifying people in the Opposition parties as well as perceived enemies.
In regard to provocative precedents G9 laments that since the unprecedented desecration of the office of the IGP by the government of Obasanjo with the vindictive persecution and humiliation of IGP Tafa Balogun the office of the IGP has not been accorded the historic respect and reverence from the Nigerian public again.
While G9 believes that nobody is above the laws of the land it also believes in the sanctity and sacredness of institutions.
Institutions are the pillars of civilized societies. We are duty bound to protect our institutions and should never sacrifice them on the altars of political expediency and jobbery.
Under President Buhari, the Cabal fingered as the puppeteer of his administration has notoriously desecrated the hallowed offices of both the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Buhari will go down in history as the first President to put his Senate President in the dock! It is a provocative precedent to destroy the national Assembly by getting it invaded by another arm of Government.

BEHOLD, IT'S 2019!
Hours and minutes we waited in watch, Asking in prayers with fervour and touch; Penitent and pliant as suppliants in awe, Pushing and binding and casting by Law; Yet in earnest we hanker for door!
New is the year of twenty-nineteen, Every delight for adult and teen, We shall receive, even pre-teen!
Yours is victory, morning, day and night, Enjoy the fruit of your labour and might; All for you: be right and wise, Rejoice, be glad, it's New Year, arise!

Crime / SARS Operative Threatened To Drink My Blood - Lagosian by Ekotech1980: 7:25am On Jun 18, 2018
A Lagosian, Kamil Mahmud, has alleged being threatened by some operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad. The 26-year-old claimed that the men threatened to drink his blood for allegedly disrespecting them, Punch reports.
According to the report, Mahmud had driven behind his brother’s car to the Ikeja area for an interview on a radio station on Thursday, June 14.
They were returning on Friday, June 15 when three FSARS operatives allegedly accosted them at the Agidingbi area of Ikeja. Mahmud said he was about parking by the roadside when the operatives cocked their guns and threatened to shoot. His words: “I waved my hand to tell them that I was not running away and I just wanted to find somewhere to park. I was thinking it was going to be a normal civilian-police conversation. But I realised the situation was getting more aggressive even before I got down from the car.
“One of the policemen asked me to come down from the car and told my friends and my brothers, who were driving behind me, to stay back. “I came down and he said he wanted to search the car. I told him to go ahead. But before he even tried to search, he had started manhandling me.
“I told him that he had not even asked for my name or who owned the car I was driving and what I did for a living. “He, however, searched me and the car without finding anything incriminating. “I don’t drive with my shoes on; so, when I got down, I was barefooted. I told the three officers more than five times that I wanted to get my shoes, but they looked at me with no response.
“The moment I tried to get my shoes, the policemen went berserk and started slapping and hitting me. One of them was shouting that he drank blood and he was ready to drink my blood. He pulled my shirt and trousers and threw me into their vehicle, a Sienna, without a number plate.”
According to Mahmud, a passerby who wanted to intervene was threatened with a cutlass.
He added that he had attempted to beg the officers when one of them further beat him with a cutlass.
“As I sat on the back seat of their car, one of them put handcuffs in my hands. They never told me what I did wrong.
“The one who assaulted me with the cutlass started the car and drove to Ikeja GRA. On getting to the Area F Police command, the officers refused to enter the premises and I told them that they should take me inside the station and file a report because I really wanted to know what my
offence was. They shouted at me that I still had the mouth to talk.
“The officer driving had a bottle of gin in front of the car; he was drinking and driving. They later negotiated with my brothers and demanded N15,000.
“My brothers went to use the ATM at Conoil Filling Station, but the ATM did not dispense cash. Then one of the policemen got angry and started driving towards Oba Akran road. When we got there, he parked and waited for my brothers.
“My brothers came and told them that they were able to get N8,000. They collected it, removed the handcuffs from my hand and told me to get out of their car,” he further narrated.
Mahmud demanded the arrest and
prosecution of the policemen, adding that he was robbed by the law enforcement agents.
He said the cops wore the F-SARS jackets and had guns with police tags.
When contacted, the Lagos State Police Public Relation Officer, CSP Chike Oti, refuted Mahmud claims, saying those he encountered are not F-SARS operatives. His words: “They are not SARS officials because SARS officials in Lagos state have uniforms that have code numbers with which they can be identified easily and SARS
officials in Lagos state are under the instruction of the commissioner of police not to conduct stop and search in Lagos
state.
“However, the complainant should come forward to give us vital information about the officers, so that we can arrest whoever the people might be; but I know that they are not SARS officials.”
Recently, a gruesome incident reportedly happened at Chinese town in Ojota, Lagos state, when some alleged SARS officers during a raid shot a man they mistook for
an internet fraudster.
The incident sparked massive outrage on social media with Nigerians reiterating their calls for the ban of SARS.

Religion / 34 Catholic Bishops In Chile Resign Over Sex Abuse Scandals by Ekotech1980: 8:35pm On May 19, 2018
Thirty-four Chilean bishops have offered their resignation to Pope Francis over allegations that they covered up clergy sex abuse scandals.
In a statement read out in a press
conference, the bishops say all placed their mandates “in the hands of the Holy Father so that he may decide freely over each of
us,” NAN reports.

It was gathered that in the statement, the bishops also “ask forgiveness for the pain caused to the victims, to the pope, to God’s people and to the country for our serious mistakes and omissions.”
The unprecedented move follows three days of Vatican meetings over the scandal, ending Thursday, May 17, between the Chilean Episcopal Conference and the pope.
José Andrés Aguirre Ovalle, aka “Cura Tato”, was found guilty of nine sexual abuse charges by the highest court of this country.
In 2004 Aguirre was sentenced to 12 years in jail. At the beginning of this trial, the Catholic Church was sentenced to pay 50 million in damages to the victims, but then this sentence was revoked by the Supreme Court.
Ricardo Muñoz Quinteros, priest of Melipilla, was charged in 2010 with eight cases of sexually abusing minors, including his own
daughter. Quinteros is also being
investigated for producing pornographic material involving children.
In 2010, the Catholic Church began an investigation into sexual abuse allegedly committed by Fr Fernando Karadima, after four people came forward with allegations of abuse. He was found guilty and convicted by the
Vatican in 18 February 2011. He was sentenced to a life of prayer and penitence, banned from any contact with his ex parishioners and forbidden to perform any
priestly ministry in public or private except for mass by himself. Karadima has not acknowledged any wrongdoing. There are cases recorded in other dioceses in the country.

The operatives of the state police command numbering over 200 with about 20 operational vehicles barricaded the state
secretariat of the All Progressives Congress as there was tension in Owerri, the Imo state capital on Saturday, Punch reports.
The media notes that arms-bearing policemen believed to be acting on the instruction of the new state commissioner of police, Dasuki Galadanchi, to stop the APC
state congress after the injunction, blocked the secretariat.

However, the state congress was conducted in an undisclosed venue by some members of the party. Hilary Eke, the party chairman in the state, said that the idea was to ensure that security agencies who had become partisan did not truncate the exercise.
According to him, over 1,500 delegates from the 305 wards of the state were electing state executive members of the party under the supervision of officials from the national secretariat, and members of staff of Independent National Electoral Commission.
He said: “Over 1,500 delegates have elected the state executives. The venue of the congress was not disclosed because of security reasons. INEC officials and officials
of the party from Abuja are here.
“Okorocha is not part of the congress; the delegates are the ones electing the state executive. The congress is very peaceful and
we are working hard to make sure that the people take back Imo APC.”
According to the state secretary of the party, Obioma Ireagwu, the party chairman risked a jail term for defying an order of a court of competent jurisdiction. He said that disciplinary actions would be
taken against those who took part in what he described as 'flagrant disobedience to an order of the court', adding that in due course, the party would conduct its congresses, starting from the ward to the state level.

It was previously reported by local media that a federal high court in Owerri, Imo state, ordered the All Progressives Congress (APC) to refrain from conducting today,
Saturday, May 19, congress or any other congress in the state, pending the determination of a suit filed by Mbagwu Augustine and four others against the APC
and 10 others.
In the motion exparte filed on Thursday, May 17, the plaintiffs sought “an order of interim injunction restraining the 1st to
10th defendants, their privies, servants, agents or any one acting on their behalf or any organ of the All Progressives Congress from holding a local government area congress of the APC or any other congress in Imo state pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice for interlocutory injunction”.
Nairaland / General / A Cry For An Urgent Humanitarian Intervention – Sos To The Public-spirited by Ekotech1980: 2:35pm On May 03, 2018
A CRY FOR AN URGENT HUMANITARIAN INTERVENTION – SOS TO THE PUBLIC-SPIRITED
The issue of one Mr. Onu James Chukwudi who hails from Umuchima Uburu in Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State is as pathetic as it needs very urgent attention. It is a case that not only government, but also individuals are to rise up to, in demonstration of our commitment to the responsibility of care and concern for the welfare of fellow citizens, irrespective of which part of the country they come from.
Mr. Onu James Chukwudi, who lived with his family of four in India, got deported last year on the basis of expiry of visa, leaving his family vulnerable to danger. In his own words,
“I was recently deported from India and my family is still stranded in India without any means of survival. I was deported without even my shoe lace; my account was frozen and my restaurant and medical tourism management business closed down over my expired visa. My kids are facing starvation and my wife exposed to Indian rapists. I have written several letters to Ministry of Foreign Affairs and my state government, yet no response from them.”
The case of James is one that needs to be handled as an emergency. Recently, government rose to the occasion and responded appropriately to the issue of Nigerians that were stranded in Libya. Public-spirited individuals, groups and organizations expressed, in practical terms, that we could be our brothers’ keeper. It’s what marks true nationalism – love for the country through love for her people.

Since last year, Mr. James case has been reported on various media. Below are some:

Politics / Re: Buhari Orders Recruitment Of 6,000 Policemen - APPLY NOW by Ekotech1980: 2:57pm On May 01, 2018
I NEED TO GET THIS RIGHT: I THOUGHT THERE WERE 774 LGAs IN NIGERIA - HEAR OUR PRESIDENT IN THE US:

“I have approved the recruitment of 6,000 policemen by the police authorities and I directed that those recruited must come from all the 776 local government areas of the federation.
“Even if it means recruiting one person each from the 776 they should do that instead of going to motor parks, railway stations or market for the recruitment exercise."

Politics / Governor Bello Reportedly Threatens To Sack Aides Over Failed Melaye’s Recall by Ekotech1980: 12:18pm On May 01, 2018
Governor Yahaya Bello has reportedly concluded plans to sack some of his aides following the failed attempt to recall Senator Dino Melaye who represents Kogi
west senatorial district.

The Guardian, citing a source, reported that the governor threatened to sack his aides who hail from Melaye’s senatorial district over the botched recall.
The newspaper also stated that Yahaya Bello may also coerce them to return the mobilisation funds given to them to facilitate the failed process.

A source told the national daily that the state government allegedly disbursed about N200,000 for distribution to petitioners in each of the 552 polling units where the
signatures verification exercise took place with each of the aides mobilised for logistics.

However, the some petitioners who earlier favoured Melaye’s recall were said to have failed to append their signatures as the
appointees reportedly pocketed the mobilisation funds without doing the needful.

It was learnt that 51% of the signatories were needed at the weekend to continue the recall process to the next level of
referendum but only 5.34% was eventually gotten.

Following Bello’s alleged threat to sack the aides, some of the appointees have been said to be secretly visiting spiritual homes
to seek help with a view to retaining their jobs, while others have gone underground. But the governor’s spokesperson, Kingsley
Fanwo, dismissed allegations that Bello was angry over the failed recall and had asked for refund.

“It is funny to claim that the state
government mobilised people for Melaye’s recall. I am a government official and I did not given a dime for the process so it is blatant falsehood as far as we are concerned,” he said.

The media had reported that the attempt to recall Senator Dino Melaye has failed after the Independent National Electoral
Commission (INEC) verified only 18,742 of the 189,870 signatories.
According to Channels TV, the recall process which happened on Saturday, April 29 witnessed a low turnout as only 5.34% of the 351,146 registered voters in the Kogi west senatorial district appeared.

50% plus one of the signatories is what is expected for the verification process to succeed.
Professor Ukertor Gabriel Moti who is the declaration officer for the exercise said the result did not satisfy the requirement for a referendum.

“Nay, they will give us fish but refuse to teach us how to fish. They will scatter us like wild oats and then give us weapons to kill
ourselves. Then, under the guise of rendering humanitarian services, they will take over our land, our oil, our rich culture
and force homosexualism and lesbianism down our throats but at that time, it will be too late to resist. Mark our words."

- We are the ones that refuse to learn to fish; we like to be given fish, rather - bony fish, so it gets stuck in our throat;
- They give us gun because they know it's what we want. Appears those in power want certain tribes and communities to do battle for supremacy. Or, the armed forces will 'deal with with all opposition forces', having exchanged our oil money for 'guns'.

If I were Philip Nweze, I would not cry more than the bereaved.
The fervency of your 'cut-APC-in-Ebonyi-down-to-size' is becoming puerile, to the point of attracting popular sympathy for the APC.
You are unwittingly promoting what you think you are despoiling.
Nwanne, take it easy, to avoid shooting yourself in the leg!
Politics / Re: President Buhari Cancels His Trip To Abia by Ekotech1980: 5:05pm On Jan 09, 2018
I had a dream - and I hope it remains in the realms of dream - that the outcome of the meeting of the president with the governor was that the governor was ordered to allocate an acceptable reasonable expanse of land to the herders as a condition for pacifying the sacrosanct herder-killers. I also saw the governor issuing public statement that included an appreciation to the president for his effort at restoring peace in the state. The dream also featured the taking to court of the suspected terrorist-herdsmen alleged to have been arrested, but that was just the end of the case - nothing again heard! I hope none of this happens!

Please, please, don't let's get it twisted: the minister is right - mangers, middle- and low-level staff in the organized private sector lost their jobs in millions, and 8 million of them tool up jobs as carpenters, bricklayers, shoe shiners, nail-cutters, gutter sweepers, etc. But of these, none of them bears the surname, Ngige!

You are suffering from amnesia to realise that there isn't any change at all.

Buhari's government is same as GEJ. If not a tad better sef.

Herders and soldiers killed many innocent people during GEJ's regime.

People are dying but the victims prefer to play politics of PDP and APC. SMH for Nigerians
TOO BAD!
Anyone that continues to do comparison with the previous administration instead of calling a spade a spade may be asking to go the way of the victims. And may that be their portion!

Nairaland / General / Ngeneukwenu Is A Deity! by Ekotech1980: 9:10am On Dec 27, 2017

NGENEUKWENU IS A DEITY
Who is Ngeneukwenu?
How and why has it become a by-word and curse word on Nairaland forum?
Whoever chose to adopt the name on the forum must have known something about the deity:
Located in the heart of the 'sacred bush', Ngeneukwenu is a 'powerful' deity in Ogwu, Uburu, in Ohaozara local government area of Ebonyi state. He is worshipped by, not only the believers in the area, but also many, many others, especially from the south-southern part of the country.
It is believed that Ngeneukwenu has the power to give wealth, prosperity, protection and goodluck, provided that the patron has and maintains very high moral rectitude. It's efficacy depends on the 'righteousness' of the believer.
No wonder many so called 'men of God' go there to seek power.
Next time you mention Ngeneukwenu, say 'Nweze Udo!'
But, remember, deity is deity!
(This info is from very close quarters! - not a believer in Ngeneukwenu , though.)

I struggle to understand the reason given by this man; was the suit filed in secret and supposed to be heard by the court in secret ?
Innocent seems not to be innocent in this case afterall.
He definitely has something to hide.
How is GTB preventing you from suing EFCC for infringing of your fundamental human right and possibly claiming damages?
Hope the tribal warlords that open their mouths to wide radi to turn this to a tribal war have seen their folly.

Warning the okada man to cease and desist is in order; asking his aide to take the kids home is cosmetic:
- it's a public political stunt
- the kids' happiness ended the moment they alighted from the governor's car; their suffering continues
- that kind of highly-risky overload by the often reckless okada men, especially in that state is commonplace; does the government has any plan to check it, beyond what the governor did?
