Brixton: Eh...your opinion doesn't count for very much with me, dude. |
I've always found the New Testament God to be much kinder and nicer. The Old Testament one asks you to slaughter your only son like a ram. Or commit genocide. Or to follow all those laws in Leviticus. Why does the tone change so much from the old testament to new? |
Na wa ooo If my god tells me to blow myself up with a bomb, then it would be time for me to change gods, lol |
working like a slave lately...no time for nling |
My little sister just annoyed me right now. She is on her summer break, and pretty much has enormous amounts of time free. I asked her to proofread something for me. She told me some crap about how I should given her one week's notice, etc. I'm thinking to myself, after all the things I do for you, this is how you treat me? When your summer is being spent goofing off, you can't spend 20 minutes to do me one favor? I'm a little angry right now at her. Plus I've had a long and tiring day. Anyway, the other sister has behaved better. If I were physically near this 17 year old one, I would probably smack her. |

The reality is a woman in her 30s who already has a kid is probably not the hottest commodity on the market. That this divorcee is even interested in you when, assuming that he satisfies one of the following conditions: a) good-looking b) kind/witty/funny c) rich he could get a younger woman who doesn't have some other man's kids is a surprise to me. Anyway, it is your call. Just realize that time and events don't really favor your position. |
I would add them all to my harem |
odumchi: The first question I'd like to pose to you all is: what do you guys think is the most urgent problem in Igboland? The most pressing issue in Igboland is that the people have not make me their king and paramount ruler |

I missed what seems to have been a good thread. I'll read it later in the week. Anyway, ogugua88 is a cool chick. Way too idealistic though. But good intentions. |
I need to write a script to process some xml for me. I know how to do this in ruby. I vowed to myself that I'd start writing all my small scripts in python, so I can learn the language. However, I'm kind of tired and need to get this done relatively soon, and am not sure I really want to learn the relevant python library for this. Should I take the lazy way out or not? |
Rackspace is a lot cheaper: http://www.rackspace.com/cloud/cloud_hosting_products/servers/pricing/ 1.5 cents/hour for a 256MB ram machine equivalent. Heroku is pretty pricey I suppose...you can do a lot cheaper by going for Rackspace. |
What do you consider "spam?" Are there no existing Python spam-filtering solutions that you can adapt? |
I've been looking at a few cloud hosting services. Heroku is the one I use. However it is somewhat expensive. 0.05 USD per hour for what they call a "worker instance." Rackspace also offers cloud hosting too. I'm not an expert on this stuff though. I'm not sure if it is available in Nigeria. I think if you have a US/Canadian/European credit card or something, then you'll be fine. You can also pay via Paypal too? |
Anyway, a piece of small advice to GEJ and his handlers. Being a douche to other ND communities is probably not a good idea. |

Java=pain, unhappiness, frustration, low programmer productivity |
If the legislature approves it, then there is nothing that can be done. Unfortunate. |
I'm building a certain application on the cloud. The app was running slow (you only get a certain amount of computing power for free on this service). I was having some folks help me test the UI of the app. Knowing that many people would be using my app simultaneously, I just spun up more worker instances on this cloud computing machine. Then my application became lightning fast. As soon as my users stopped using my app, I reduced the number of workers. I just found this really amazing. Compare it to a traditional web application where you host it yourself on some server you've pre-purchased. You have no ability to scale your application without buying more hardware. Cloud computing is an amazing, wonderful technology. |
you don't need to learn html to learn to connect stuff to DB. You can make an entirely text-based application that also connects to DB. Or a GUI app that connects to DB. DB is DB, HTML is HTML, programming is programming. Let's not mix up these different ideas |
I disagree |
a) You aren't at 20 million yet b) When you get there, you can hire experts to help you scale Don't put the cart before the horse |
