I think the reason Facebook will be pretty hard to dislodge is that they are pretty proactive about neutralizing threats.

Google+ came out, they implemented many of its best features into Fbook.

Instagram came out and started racking up users, they quickly purchase them before a rival (like Twitter or Google) could buy.

They are doing a pretty good job at this particular task, imo.

Yahoo is dying, pretty much. lol.

I don't think that Yahoo should be brought up in the same sentence as Google and Facebook any more.

The latter two have at least positive prospects for the future.
InvestmentRe: Facebook Shares Opens At $42 As Trading Begins by ektbear: 7:35pm On May 18, 2012
Google actually doesn't make much money from any of its other businesses.

Android doesn't generate a lot of revenue or profit for them.

The OS is free, is it not?

Basically they are an advertising company, just like Fbook.
InvestmentRe: Facebook Shares Opens At $42 As Trading Begins by ektbear: 7:33pm On May 18, 2012
violent: Goldman sachs is selling half of its stake at IPO. If they really think the shares will be worth more in the future, common sense will mean they are more likely to hold on to it now!

This is just another bloody bubble....looks like the world never learns anything from history after all.

Facebook may be a good investment, but like any other investment, there's a price where it becomes a bad investment. Any price that puts the value of facebook above a company like Citigroup and Boeing combined together, just does not make any sense!
hmm

News Alert
from The Wall Street Journal

Facebook shares opened around $42 but fell to as low as $38 in their first half hour of trading before underwriters stepped in to support the price, according to people familiar with the matter. The debut was marred by a 30-minute delay, coupled with reports from traders about lack of communication about orders.

Lmao.

Boot-licker of Fashola. I don't give a damn about Fashola. He isn't the point. There is a bigger issue at stake here.

Honestly, some of ya'll are dumbazzes...I probably shouldn't be wasting my time expecting you to see the larger picture.
HealthRe: Federal Doctors In Lagos Begin Solidarity Strike For Sacked Colleagues by ektbear: 7:27pm On May 18, 2012
GboyegaD: In as much as the strike is uncalled for, you do not conclude that it is none of their business. They all belong to same professional bodies and an injustice to one is an injustice to all as such, they are only trying to forestall a re-occurence of another by a tyrant government by making a statement.
Do the federal doctors have a grouse with their own employer?

Aren't doctors in my own Ekiti State also part of this same union?

Do you know how angry I would be if they decided to do solidarity strike and even a single person died or didn't receive treatment as a result of such a strike?

If you don't have beef with your employer, then you shouldn't strike.

If your employer is paying you what you've agreed upon, then there is no reason for strike.

Solidarity strike is pure and utter insanity.
InvestmentRe: Facebook Shares Opens At $42 As Trading Begins by ektbear: 7:23pm On May 18, 2012
Marketing pays a lot of money.

You can make billions of dollars a year serving advertisements. This is the core business of both Google and Facebook, and it is highly profitable.

Just as legitimate as making money from selling potatoes, cars, fish, etc.

dayokanu: It depends on his audience, OBJ frequently speaks in Yoruba when addressing people in the Ibadan
Ah. So this Buhari speech was not meant for the entire nation, just the local audience.

I see.

texazzpete: Because if they did not offer any form of housing to SOME of these doctors, the gross inadequacy of the salaries paid to the doctors would be blindingly apparent.
The point is, pay cash equivalent of the housing.....

Perhaps if you read my comments and posts more carefully, this would be clear.

I cannot remember when last you posted an intelligent comment on this Fashola/doctors issue. All you do is parrot the State Government's position, attempting to use the hippocratic oath's tenets to place the doctors as the guilty party. You also forget Fashola swore an oath to protect the lives of Lagosians too.
This seems somewhat implausible, given that I don't know what the state government's official position is.

Look, my position isn't really about Fashola. As you all know, I'm a free market sort of guy. I believe that employers should have freedom to employ who they want at wages as low as they can find, and that employees should have freedom to work where they want, at wages as high as they can find.

Am I enjoying pointing out the hypocrisy and selfishness of these doctors and their union? Yes, I am. But that actually isn't the heart of the matter. Freedom for both employers and laborers is.

The incremental improvement in remunerations the doctors are asking for will not amount to any massive sum. I challenge you to multiply 788 by an optimistic estimate of 30k increase per head and see if it is an apocalyptic sum like Fashola and his goons are claiming. All this has become is a matter of pride and hardheadedness on the part of the Lagos state govt...and praise-singers like yourself have swallowed the bullcrap hook, line and sinker.

Years and years of dialogue and threats and still the employer has not budged. Lagos state deserves a well motivated workforce of doctors and i wish the good citizens of lagos have the brains to understand this. As i am fond of saying, I have yet to meet any Lagosian who has ever given a medical doctor a discount on account of their noble profession. Asking people to give up the chance to better the lives of their families just because 'they have to save lives' is frankly mor0nic.
This is all irrelevant to my position.
PoliticsRe: Buhari's Comment In Hausa And The True Translation ( No Blood Mentioned ) by ektbear: 7:09pm On May 18, 2012
As a guy who wants to become a national leader, why doesn't he speak in a language everyone can understand (English) rather than his own regional language?

Very strange....

I would have loved to buy some this morning, but didn't wake up in time sad

As far as the future goes, I simply have no clue how their stock will do.

You can't just confiscate his assets just because Nigeria has broken up.

He'll still be quite wealthy even in a post-Nigeria setting.

Ibime: Shut the hell up!

If you dont know how key Unions are to civil society and Governance, best remain quiet.

Where you around in the 90's when the Unions brought IBB's regime to standstill?
Of what relevance is that to this present situation? Whatever they did in the 90s is fine and well, but no excuse for solidarity strike in 2012.

I am familiar with the value of unions to society. But I am also aware of some of the obstructionist tendencies that they have.

If this vague, abstract and irrelevant crap is your only argument, then you simply have no argument at all.

Please don't waste my time ever again with garbage like what you just posted.
PoliticsRe: To Become A Millionaire In North America Is Hard! by ektbear: 6:37pm On May 18, 2012
So the US sucks because although poor talented people can easily become millionaires, poor, untalented ones can't?

Which country on earth do large #s of poor untalented people become rich? undecided

I think you underestimate these people that you believe had/have no talent...

In any case, for the vast majority of people across the world, they'd choose to immigrate to the US over almost any other country..
HealthRe: Federal Doctors In Lagos Begin Solidarity Strike For Sacked Colleagues by ektbear: 9:39am On May 18, 2012
This has nothing to do with ACN.

In case you haven't noticed, I'm right-wing and pro-business on issues like this.

Solidarity strike is bullsh1t.

Unless you have a direct beef with your employer rather than somebody else's employer, go to work!

Moreover, how can you be striking and enjoying the free accommodation your employer has provided?

What sense does that make?

That is hypocrisy on the part of these so-called striking doctors.

If you believe in your cause so much, then vacate the free housing the FG is providing you.
HealthRe: Federal Doctors In Lagos Begin Solidarity Strike For Sacked Colleagues by ektbear: 7:59am On May 18, 2012
Let them continue to strike.

Hopefully they will be fired by their employer (FG).

If not, they will incur the anger of the masses as people are turned away from the federal hospitals in Lagos.
PoliticsRe: To Become A Millionaire In North America Is Hard! by ektbear: 7:57am On May 18, 2012
Most North Americans have a pretty good life, despite not having anything near 1 mil in NW.

Makes no sense to say, "Hey, it is hard to be a millionaire in location A, therefore X, Y, Z about the life of your median resident of location A."

Your logic is faulty.

Plus...it is easier to be a millionaire in say the US than in most other countries. Dunno if the same is true of Canada or Mexico, though.
HealthRe: Federal Doctors In Lagos Begin Solidarity Strike For Sacked Colleagues by ektbear: 7:11am On May 18, 2012
Solidarity strikes should be illegal.

If you have no beef with your employer, then you should not be permitted to strike.

Especially if you are an essential worker like a doctor.
HealthRe: Federal Doctors In Lagos Begin Solidarity Strike For Sacked Colleagues by ektbear: 7:04am On May 18, 2012
Oyb, explain to me the sense it makes for doctors working for the FG to be striking "in solidarity" with doctors working for a state government.

Should doctors in Zamfara also strike because of a local labor dispute in Lagos?

What of doctors in Zimbabwe?

What justification do they have to strike, given that they have no grievances with their employer?
HealthRe: Federal Doctors In Lagos Begin Solidarity Strike For Sacked Colleagues by ektbear: 6:19am On May 18, 2012
Fashola should stand firm, and refuse to back down. The doctors must learn who is the employer, and who is the employee.
HealthRe: Federal Doctors In Lagos Begin Solidarity Strike For Sacked Colleagues by ektbear: 6:18am On May 18, 2012
So these guys enjoy free accommodation while they strike, no?

Why on earth does either the state or FG offer free housing?

Don't they realize that it makes it easier for the doctors to strike?
HealthRe: Federal Doctors In Lagos Begin Solidarity Strike For Sacked Colleagues by ektbear: 6:17am On May 18, 2012
What the fvck type of bulls1t is this.

Solidarity strikehuh?

Because the Lagos government didn't recall its employees? What business is it of yours who the Lagos government decides to hire or fire?

These doctors are all crazy.

The unions 100%, absolutely must be broken.

Evil and monstrous entities, unions.
Foreign AffairsRe: Somalia Should Leave The African Union by ektbear: 12:34am On May 18, 2012
Imagine. Since 1994.

No government. Civil war and chaos, for nearly 20 years.

Think of the incompetence and stupidity this suggests is typical among Somali.

I was too kind earlier when I called them mongrel dogs.

Even dogs know how to form a pack. Somalis do not grin
Foreign AffairsRe: Somalia Should Leave The African Union by ektbear: 12:31am On May 18, 2012
Olodostein: Why are you letting a mongrel dog make you angry?

He bragged earlier about trade with Arabs and other foreigners, perhaps not knowing that rather than selling corn or beef, they were selling human flesh to Arabs.

We should have pity on him and his people. They are like children. Too immature to form functional states like other peoples do.
Foreign AffairsRe: Somalia Should Leave The African Union by ektbear: 12:02am On May 18, 2012
Having big lips and a big nose hasn't particularly been an impediment in my life, heh.

Otoh, presumably the chaos, unrest and starvation in your homeland has been an impediment for you and many mongrel dogs who look like you.
Foreign AffairsRe: Somalia Should Leave The African Union by ektbear: 12:01am On May 18, 2012
Whether you have Arab in you or not, I damn sure know you have a lot of ugly and stupid in you.
Foreign AffairsRe: Somalia Should Leave The African Union by ektbear: 11:49pm On May 17, 2012
And no, Ethiopia will not break up. It will even expand and place under its control large chunks of Somalia grin

Useless people that are too incompetent and violent to even maintain a country, lmao.

Imagine, since 1994, absolutely no government?

And this is an ethnically homogeneous, religiously homogeneous country.

Well, perhaps it is too much to expect mongrel dogs to form a society, like human beings. Their natural state is lawlessness and chaos..
Foreign AffairsRe: Somalia Should Leave The African Union by ektbear: 11:44pm On May 17, 2012
Eh...

I don't particularly find Somalis attractive, personally.

You guys look like mongrel, half african, half arab dogs.
