cheddarking: EXACTLY WHY I'M PRO-AMALGAMATION.I've thought about this before in the past. The problem with this line of reasoning is that it means you have to accept history EXACTLY as it happened. Since any change in it would jeopardize your existence. The Holocaust, trans-atlantic slave trade, eradication of the Native Americans, Ghenghis Khan's pillages through Asia and Europe, the Allies defeating the Axis powers in WW2...presumably if any of these things had turned out slightly differently, I would not exist. But it would be quite selfish of me to argue in favor of the Holocaust for this reason, I think. This is why I said earlier that perspective matters...if you want to argue that X was good or bad, you have to also mention who it was good or bad for. |
The luxury of living in yankee, I suppose. If I lived in Pakistan, Saudi, Kano or places like that I'd probably tread more carefully when it comes to Islam and freedom of speech in general. Or at least, I'd put more effort into making sure that my words could not linked to my public persona. |
Katsumoto: When you look at the HDI table, you will observe that Nigeria is the lowest ranked Oil exporting nation despite being the 7th largest oil exporter in the world. Angola which fought a war for 27 years is ranked higher than Nigeria despite only ending its civil war in 2002. That is a big shame.Angola produces lots of oil and has a small population (~20 million), though. So, it makes sense that in a short period of time they'd be able to rapidly climb up the rankings. |
I agree that Nigeria is a tremendous disappointment and failure. I also agree that the trajectory of countries like India seems more promising than that of Nigeria. India will probably develop more rapidly over the course of the next 50 years than Nigeria will, yes. But all I am saying is that despite this, as of right now, the lot of your average guy in India isn't much better. Let us not be fooled by the IITs into thinking that every Indian is an IITer; your average Indian is a stark illiterate. Let us not be fooled by the success of Tata, Wipro, etc into thinking that the average Indian is a savvy businessman; your average Indian is probably an impoverished farmer in the bush somewhere. |
Shout out to my homie Fashola |
Are you very sure about that? You should double check that your claim is true, lest someone call you out on it... |
REALITY101: His reasons for not releasing his tax record is understandable. Btw it's none of your damn businessI agree, it is none of my business. But can't the same be said for Obama's college records? Yet Trump is asking for them. |
Interesting. Nigeria nominal GDP/capita data is comparable to that of India (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_%28PPP%29_per_capita) but using PPP there is a big gap between India and Nigeria. From your links (http://hdrstats.undp.org/en/countries/profiles/NGA.html and http://hdrstats.undp.org/en/countries/profiles/IND.html), India ranked 134 in HDI, and Nigeria 156. Healthcare seems to be what is dragging Nigeria down....life expectancy of ~52 at birth for a Nigerian, 65 for an Indian. Interestingly enough, Nigeria leads slightly in average years of education for adults (5 versus 4.4). So I suppose one can argue, assuming that the PPP/capita and HDI data is reasonable accurate, that the lot of your typical Nigerian is worse than that of your typical Indian. But not substantially so I think....being ranked 134 versus being ranked 156 probably isn't a huge difference qualitatively. |
Reality101 is entitled to not support Obama. The past 4 years haven't been great in America, so it is not unreasonable to be unhappy with Obama's presidency. Just because you are black and you decide to vote Republican or support Republicans doesn't mean you are an uncle tom. |
btw, has Romnney released his tax records yet? Why isn't Trump asking for those to be released? |
Obama probably doesn't have anything to hide...no reason for him not to release his transcripts. The guy graduated magna cum laude from harvard law after all, so it is probably reasonable to guess he did reasonably well at columbia. |
Seun: Yes. It takes a muslim to know what will offend other muslims. Think about it for a while, and you'll realize that I'm right.Doesn't it then take a Christian to know what will offend other Christians? That line of reasoning simple doesn't work, Seun. To justify your different treatment of Christians and Muslims, you'll have to use another approach (like the one I mentioned earlier in this thread). |
Katsumoto: You conducted a fair assessment but your patriotism wouldn't let you realize that India, for all its problems, is light years ahead of Nigeria. Is it, though? India seems to be better at the top end of things (education, industry, etc), and probably a better place for your typical university graduate. However, the lot of your average man is nearly identical in both countries, is it not? |
Obama probably had a relatively decent college transcript. He managed to transfer into Columbia, and from there entered Harvard (where he graduated magna cum laude and was the first black president of the Harvard Law Review). So clearly the brain power is there...those latter two accomplishments are especially difficult to do. This is even ignoring observing him when he speaks and reasons...he is obviously a very intelligent guy. |
God bless boob1es. Sustenance for babies, enjoyment and pleasure for grown men. |
iykak47: How, the man's surname is it not Soyinka?Because he is not THE Soyinka. The well-known one who people sit up and pay attention to when he speaks. It would be as if my name were Tunde Obama, and some prominent newspaper quoted me and put out a headline "Obama supports the US invading Iran!!!" |
The thing is, it was pretty much mandatory at a time in the corporate world. So if you had a nice job on wall street or something, then you'd have had a black berry. I don't think it would be accurate to characterize men on wall street or corporate america as effeminate (or at least more than any other group of men). |
cheddarking: I be Yoruba/Igbo Hybrid so i'm very Pro-AmalgamationBros, the protectorates amalgamated were the Northern and Southern ones ![]() So your existence is not directly dependent on that event (though if that event hadn't happened it might have changed history in other ways that would perhaps have prevented your parents from meeting...). |
Lmao. Weight training does NOT cause the size of your thumbs to change. For most people, anyways. And of course, since Blackberry at one point had, what, 50% of the smartphone market, definitely lots of people used to own 'em. |
PDP also seems to have returned empty-handed, no?
|
@AjanleKolo: The IITs are amazing. At least, judging by the average quality of their graduates who I have met before. Some of these good developing world universities will not have facilities on par with say those in the US or UK, but will still have a very academically strong student body...they can compete with anyone in the world. |
when will soon arrive |
How much did the naira depreciate during your beloved Abacha and Buhari's rule |
oyb: if my memeory serves, those range rovers are now indian cars - tata bought them over two years agoCorrect. Land Rover is a British car manufacturer with its headquarters in Gaydon, Warwickshire, United Kingdom which specialises in four-wheel-drive vehicles. It has been owned by the Indian company Tata Motors since 2008, forming part of their Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) group.[4] It is the second oldest four-wheel-drive car brand in the world (after Jeep).[5] |

Heh. Maybe we should leave it at that, lest we interfere with the debate that will take place ![]() |
Heh. Straight out of Tom Sawyer. |
owen4u:Well said, minus the strange symbols in your post |
batiatus: he needs to come and lay a foundation in the north as well in other revive the educational sector in the north. Why? Let northerners revive their own educational sector. |
Chrisbenogor: Those arguing in favor have a huge case, its pretty easy, the debate is by no means a slam dunk for the against team.I guess it depends from whose perspective you are looking at it...one can argue that from the perspective of those in the southern protectorate, it was pretty harmful. But there are others involved of course. |
