Travel / Re: Which Country Would You Like To Relocate To Within The Next 5 Years? by Ekun123: 4:40pm On Jan 10
I will remain in Nigeria except on visit elsewhere for a justified reasons like business, training, holiday e.t.c

I have come out of the delusion that beauty is goodness. You can achieve whatever you want even more easily here than elsewhere.

But everyone is free to exercise his decision.

“There are two ways to be fooled. One is to believe what isn't true; the other is to refuse to believe what is true.”

Of all forms of deception, self-deception is the most deadly. Out of all deceived persons the self-deceived are the least likely to discover the

fraud.

Travel / Re: Seeking Honest Advice: Considering Relocating Abroad - Need Your Thoughts by Ekun123: 4:53pm On Jul 27, 2023
Alejo2000:
Hello fellow Nairalanders,

I find myself at a crucial crossroad in life and would greatly appreciate your valuable insights and diverse perspectives. I have worked diligently in a private organization for 15 years, managing to save up to N20 million. Additionally, I own a 3-bedroom apartment. and a few plots of land in three different states in Nigeria -

OPINION: Welldone. This is good Achievement for 15 years hardwork.

Current Situation:
Recently, I was disengaged from my job, and this has prompted me to contemplate a major life decision. I am 45 years old, and my wife is 42 years old. Together, we have three children, two of whom are in secondary school.

Contemplating Relocation:

Given the circumstances, I have been seriously considering the possibility of relocating to another country with my family via study route. Two countries have caught my attention: the UK and Canada. I believe that I still have around 15 years of active career working life by the Grace of God, and I am open to exploring new opportunities abroad for the betterment of my family's future.

Reasoning:
The motivation behind this move is to provide my children with a better education and quality of life while also embracing new experiences. However, I am fully aware that this is not without risks, as it would involve utilizing my lifetime savings and making a fresh start in a foreign land.

OPINION: Personally, I don't totally share this illusion of this so call better education abroad and my experience in the industry doesn't show that. Getting certificate abroad without being skilled or getting the needed certification in your area of specialization gives no advantage. Infact, you stand a chance of working as a professional in Nigeria than going abroad and do any menial job to survive because of the unceasing bills and some biases. Today, with this bad 9ja education. Professionals Like Medical Doctors, Nurses, Teachers and ICT skilled personnel are being recruited to work abroad. Where are the ones that studied abroad when they are taking the one with bad education from 9ja?

Seeking Your Advice
:
I humbly seek your honest advice and opinions on this matter. Here are some key points to consider:

Family considerations: How will relocating impact my children's education and overall well-being?
OPINION: From statistic for those who are not carried away or being western-toxicated. Many relocated families are battling with different issues with their children in terms of morals, attitude and have lost many children to bad influences. I deal with familiar issues from colleagues every time because I have them plenty in my team. But, some don't come out to say the truth except you are close family. I sojourned in Western Europe and can attest to these realities . My opinion is that when they have acquired the maturity to think for themselves as adult, It is not a bad idea for their master program.
The one I will never do is living somewhere working and my family is in another country. I will not live a miserable life in the name of giving any children better chances of survival. I love and cherished my balanced and quality family life.

Age and career transition: Is starting a new in a foreign country feasible, considering my age and accounting background as my profession?

Financial stability: Should I be concerned about using my savings for this move? What steps can I take to ensure financial security in a new country?

Visa and immigration: What are the challenges and best practices in obtaining permanent residency in the UK or Canada?
OPINION: Getting visa is not difficult if your papers are correct, nah your money go suffer.

Job opportunities: How promising is the job market for accountants in these countries? Are there viable prospects for career growth?
OPINION: If you have your certifications and quality professional experience, you will eventually get job after understanding the place. Which career remains after 45 yrs? You will work and collect your salary. It is only an entrepreneur that can think of being rich. A salary earner well just plan to be okay except the person steals. And it is not easy at all to do business abroad, tax and regulation will kill you from the inception.

Investment options: Alternatively, what investment opportunities in Nigeria can provide a stable income stream for my family?
OPINION: There are investment opportunity 9ja that you can explore and you will have no regret. You just need to be patient to pass through the learning curve. It is never like a miracle but gradual.

Conclusion:
I am deeply grateful for any advice, personal experiences, or suggestions you can provide. Your valuable insights will play a significant role in shaping this crucial decision for my family's future.

Thank you all for taking the time to read and respond to my post. Your support means a lot to me and will help me make an informed choice.

Warm regards,

GENERALLY : We tend to be on under pressure because multitude are doing something without looking at our personal and unique case critically. You can generally check the overall well being of your friends or family or colleagues who have been abroad in the last 15 years and you are here in 9ja. And review their well being financially, family-wise, their children ,their achievement, their savings and their personal fulfilment. It will give you a fair idea of wholistic view of whether to go or to stay. Because life fulfilment is beyond taking beautiful pictures from a nice scenery even if the person is planning suicide in the moment.

I don't feel the pressure may be because i have been there. I am cool in my 9ja and any child that want to go can go is free but I am here with my spouse, period!

The decision is majorly yours after listing your values and your target in life. You will be able to decide with your spouse. MAY GOD ALMIGHTY HELPS YOU AS DECIDE. AMEN .

Family / Re: Why Do People Who Borrow Money Find It So Difficult To Return In Due Time? by Ekun123: 5:07pm On Jul 24, 2023
Engaging one another for one thing or the other is part of life activities and it is quite inevitable, hence you have to have a guided way of dealing with the realities of the common occurrence in your localities. If you find it too cumbersome, keep borrowing everyone money without collecting it back. It is not ease to be disciplined but there is no progress without discipline. Everyone is entitled to his own style. There is reward for both ACTIONS and INACTIONS.

Why are you turning yourself to bank?
Family / Re: Why Do People Who Borrow Money Find It So Difficult To Return In Due Time? by Ekun123: 3:52pm On Jul 24, 2023
Observations
It is obvious common occurrence that most borrower don't bother to pay back once there are close friends or relatives.

Some borrowers will just pretend as if no transaction ever happens and even come back to ask for another one.

Some borrowers will never deny borrowing but will never priotize your your repayment. I have one that scatter the whole bulk money and finally finish paying after five years. He is completely blacklisted in my book and I told him.

My rules now:
(1) No borrowing to anyone including relatives or close friends any amount I cannot forget, no matter the urgency.

(2) I develop a simple agreement format to ensure it is binding. You have a choice to object, then go and borrow from bank.

(3) There must be a witness aware of the transaction and sign for me and one for you.

(4) If you ever default once and never discuss why you are unable, it is consider intentional and you are block till eternity.

(5) I take pleasure to tell you NO if I cannot afford it without remorse, no unnecessary emotions.

(6) Any engagement that look transaction-like with anyone must be written and well spelt out. Most people are not comfortable with this but I have no regret to leave to go.

(7) I have unwritten credit rating for my friends based on past experiences and is guiding my interaction with them and is working.

(cool I don't also go for borrowing as first option. Optimization of budgeting first, Recategorization of needs/wants, Re-priotization of needs and avoidance of unnecessary expenses (data usage optimization, suspension of subscription, avoid uncritical social gatherings, avoiding trivial family spendings except for my parents). If all these are not sufficient, borrowing for importance thing that cannot wait.

THESE MEASURES ARE WORKING SERIOUSLY FOR ME AND I DON'T FIND MYSELF IN A MESSY SITUATION WITH MY EXPENSES OR WITH FRIENDS OR RELATIVES. IT WAS STRANGE TO THEM INITIALLY BUT NOW MAJORITY HAVE ACCEPTED AS MY SYTLE.

Haymus007:
A friend of mine borrowed some money from me and since then he has refused to return back my money. I still don't know why people can be so desperate when in need of some amount of money for something urgent/important but fail to return it ASAP.

NYSC / Re: One Year And More After NYSC - How Is It Going? by Ekun123: 2:36pm On Jul 17, 2023
Tri7nity:
With the level of graduate unemployment in Nigeria, were you me asking yourself what you will do after NYSC and boom you were done with service. One year after, how has it gone? Share your experiences. Let's learn together
.

If you fail to plan, you are automatic planning to fail. It is no news again in the country there is no enough job opportunities for school leavers. You know this before even go to school. In addition to mere certificate. It is either you develop other skills by learning in area of need and make legit money. Or you develop professional skills by getting certify in specialized area depending on your educational background and your interest and compete for the few opportunities that are available as vacancies. But if you are complacent for the whole NYSC year enjoying the little allowance without a plan of what is next. Don't blame Government, blame yourself.

Even if you don't go to school at all. How can one stay nine years on earth and cannot find out what to do. In 3 to 6 months online, you can learn digital skills online and be earning little by little till you become better.

There are graduates who learn how to weave school cardigan, bought the weaving and brand for different private schools and individuals and organize it as a small factory that is progressing today. NYSC can achieve this, it is not so expensive, if you organize your life. It is either you lack idea or you are not ready or you are not ready to grow gradually. There are uncountable gaps to be filled in this 200 millions plus population country than for someone to contribute nothing in nine years and blame government.

Join professional network, and see what your mates are doing to survive. At least you can copy and paste, if you cannot conceive your own idea. But I am not telling you, everyone will be Dangote but at least, you will live a decent life and be fulfilled .

Islam for Muslims / Re: Islamic Ruling On MMM by Ekun123: 1:42pm On Nov 18, 2016
As salam alaykum, There are basic questions that still left unanswered in this MMM thing. Which transaction are they doing to get such huge return? It is a game of some gaining high and others will eventually lose which is not ethical. The populace have to be saved from action of a Muslim either in business or any other thing. I saw a similar response to somewhat similar question.May ALLAH be our guide.

Multi-level Marketing
The Standing Committee for Academic Research and Issuing Fatwas has received many questions about pyramid marketing companies such as the “Business” and “Hibbat al-Jazeerah” companies, whose work may be summed up as being the attempt to convince a person to buy a product on the basis that he will also convince others to buy; they in turn will convince others, and so on. The more levels of participants there are, the more the first person will gain in commission, reaching thousands of riyals. Every participant convinces others to join in return for a large commission, if he is successful in getting new customers to join his list of members. This is what is called pyramid marketing or network marketing.

Praise be to Allaah.
The Committee replied: This kind of dealing is haraam, because the purpose of this dealing is to earn commission, not to buy the product. The commission may reach tens of thousands, whilst the product is not worth more than a few hundred. Any smart person who is offered a choice between the two will choose the commission. Hence these companies rely on marketing and advertising of their product which emphasizes the size of the large commission which the participant can earn, and offers the incentive of a large profit in return for a small sum, which is the price of the product. The product marketed by such companies is merely a screen or a means of earning these commissions and profits. Because this commission is really the point of the transaction, it is haraam according to sharee’ah for several reasons:
1 – It involves riba of two types, riba al-fadl (involving exchange of goods of the same type but of different quantity) and riba al-nasi’ah (involving deferred payment of a larger amount than would be paid if it were paid immediately). The participant pays a small amount of money in order to gain a lot of money, in other words he pays cash for cash of a different amount and with deferred payment. This is the kind of riba that is forbidden according to the texts and to scholarly consensus. The product which the company sells to the agent is simply a screen for this transaction; it is not what the participant is seeking and it makes no difference to the ruling.
2 – It is a kind of gharar (ambiguous transaction) that is forbidden in sharee’ah, because the participant does not know whether he will be successful in finding the number of purchasers (participants) required or not. No matter how long pyramid or network marketing lasts, it must inevitably reach an end, and when a person joins the pyramid he does not know whether he will be in a higher level and thus make a profit, or in the lower levels and thus make a loss. The fact of the matter is that most of the members of the pyramid lose out, except for the few at the top. So what usually happens is loss, which is the case of all ambiguous transactions. One of two things may happen, and it is usually the one that is most feared. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) forbade ambiguous transactions, as was narrated by Muslim in his Saheeh.
3 – These transactions involve consuming people’s wealth unlawfully, because these contracts benefit no one but the companies and some participants whom the company encourages with the aim of tricking others. This is what is forbidden in the Qur’aan, where Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):
“O you who believe! Eat not up your property among yourselves unjustly”
[al-Nisa’ 4:29]
4 – This transaction involves cheating, deceiving and tricking people, by showing the product as if that is the purpose of this transaction, when that is not the case, and by enticing them with the idea of large commission which people do not usually earn. This is the kind of deceit that is forbidden in sharee’ah. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever deceives us is not one of us.” Narrated by Muslim in his Saheeh. And the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The two parties to a transaction have the choice, so long as they have not parted. If they are sincere and open in their dealings, the transaction will be blessed for them, but if they lie and conceal anything, the blessing of their transaction will be erased.” Agreed upon.
With regard to the view that this transaction is a kind of brokerage, this is not true. Brokerage is a transaction whereby the broker receives payment in return for selling the product, whereas in network marketing the participant pays a fee in order to market the product. Brokerage means marketing the product in a real sense, unlike network marketing where the real aim is to market the transaction, not the product, so the participant markets to others who will market to others who will market to others and so on, unlike brokerage in which the broker markets the product to those who really want the product. The difference between the two is quite clear.
With regard to the view that the transaction is a kind of gift, this is also not true. Even if we accept that, not every gift is permissible according to sharee’ah. A gift given in return for a loan is riba. Hence ‘Abd-Allaah ibn Salaam said to Abu Burdah (may Allaah be pleased with them both): “You are in a land where riba is widespread among them. If you have some right over a man and he gives you a load of straw or a load of barley or a load of fodder, this is riba.” Narrated by al-Bukhaari in his Saheeh.
Gifts are subject to the rulings on the reason for which they are given. Hence the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, concerning the zakaat-collector who came and said: “This is for you and this is what was given to me as a gift”: “Why don’t you sit in the house of your father and mother and see whether you are given any gifts or not?” Agreed upon.
These commissions are only paid for the purpose of joining the network marketing scheme, no matter what names are given to them, whether they are called gifts or anything else. That does not change their nature or the ruling on them in the slightest.
It is worth mentioning that there are companies that have appeared in the market which follow the practices of network marketing or pyramid marketing, such as “Smartest Way”, “Gold Quest” and “Seven Diamonds”. The ruling on these companies is no different from the ruling on the companies mentioned above, even though the products they offer may vary.
And Allaah is the Source of strength. May Allaah send blessings and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and companions.

Business / Re: International Airlines To Reduce Flights To Nigeria Next Year by Ekun123: 5:36pm On Dec 27, 2015
When does the number of international flights coming to the country becomes an indication of a robust economy when none of the flight is even national carrier. It simply tells you as a nation : (1) That a large chunk of your resources is going outside to benefit others (2) It is an indication of the hypocrisy of being a citizen of a country that you can boost of knowing five states but you know every street of elsewhere
(3) It is an indication that frivolous trips are being made with our money even when they are not absolute necessary (4) It indicates we want a change but we don't want to change our flamboyant ways even when the reality of our oil returns cannot sustain it (5) It is an indication that we don't look for solutions to our problems locally except abroad.
I do agreed that the CBN should regulate the amount of dollar in circulation with policy that will boost economical activities for genuine business people who are not doing so at the disadvantage of the country. If we think we will get it right in our economy without having some drastic practical measures to align ourselves with realities of our situations. We will building our castles in the air. If we want change, we should be ready to change out styles. Majority of Nigerian populace do not understand what constitute a balanced system, hence misrepresent every parameter of abuse for good lives. May GOD helps us as a people!!!

NYSC / Re: Should Hijabs Be Allowed In NYSC Camps? by Ekun123: 9:04pm On Nov 26, 2015
EMPHATIC YES. Muslim ladies should be allowed to live their life normally. Have you asked yourself the need for the orientation camp of NYSC before deployment to place of assignments? What additional values does the weeks added to the whole service year than opportunities of immorality.
What should guide the content of services to a nation is your priority at the time in question. Today our economy is not stable because the education system is collapsed. You want to deny a section of people opportunity to contribute to the nation's growth because of futile orientation camp madness. Exempt them from camp and post to their places of assignment directly. Marching like a soldiers add no value, country who make military training in service to nation compulsory are in perpetual state of war. I think these soldiers should be in NE find solution to BH than disturbing innocents female Muslims graduate in an unnecessary orientation camp.
Let us go to the fundamentals before talking of banning hijab. Graduates should rather that one year in entrepreneurship program or other program that will correct this inadequate education system before going to labour market. Let us be guided at least for once.

NYSC / Re: Should Hijabs Be Allowed In NYSC Camps? by Ekun123: 8:44pm On Nov 26, 2015
Every matter is treated with a kind of sentiment in Nigeria. Nigeria is a secular state, as such everyone has right to practice his own faith. Those who choose to go naked in public are not rebuked for their provocation. Muslims ladies should be allowed to live their modest life everywhere in the globe and be screened like everybody if need be for security reasons. It is only in Nigeria everything is taking overboard. They fought the non- interest banking without any understanding, today non-muslims are the benefiting unlimitedly. Despite Saudi Arabia have their women in purdah, you hypocrites run there for economical reason, Dubai is not far from your leg and yet there are Muslims and use this hijab. What make it difference in Nigeria?

I simply REDUCE MY FOOD INTAKE, REDUCE MY TASKS ON FRIDAY, TAKE AT EAST 30 MINS NAP BEFORE GOING FOR JUMAT SERVICE DEPENDING ON MY SCHEDULE. I never have the same problem again, I am always alive throughout the khutbah. I hope these will work for you.

As salam alaykum waramotullahi wabarakatuhu, Nice one, May ALLAH(SWT) makes this our way of life easy and accepts our ibadah.

JUST A REMINDER
" Ibn Abbas reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him,
said to a man and he was admonishing him, “Take advantage of five before
five: your youth before your old age, your health before your illness, your
riches before your poverty, your leisure before your work, and your life
before your death.”

Family / Re: Why Is It A Challenge For Single Mum's To Get Married? by Ekun123: 5:55am On Apr 16, 2015
It simply depends on how far is your understading of life as regards talking about a union. The fact that a single lady has a child does not make her not to be a good spouse. How many single without child that are so worn out because of their past events and may not even be productive again without your knowledge? Some single without issues are so attached to their as if they were maaried before. So.what difference with a married one? Some ladies found themeselves singles by circumstance beyond them. Forexample, 24 yrs that got married and have a child and the husband died after three years due to accident. Is that her fault?
Mindset, social acceptance, indecision, Unnecessary criteria for spouse selection and not being realistic are major part of the problems.

Family / Re: My 2 Months Old Marriage Is Crashing - HELP ME by Ekun123: 5:21pm On Apr 10, 2015
Hello my brother, I am particularly touched with your case. Many may assume is just one of those stuff for gisting but the reality is that we have many couples expriencing this ugly situation.
To be on point, you are two different people from different background who are try to be together to run a family. In this your scenario, PATIENCE is the first tool to survive and you have find a suitable time outside the various scenes that normally happen and try to explain things in a very mature and understanding way.
Let her understand that sometimes you don't need to be too serious on some matters not because they are not important but they more delicate to handle, otherwise you will cause more damage than good. Exprience has shown that every partner in a union will have some attitudes that the other will just have to endure when it seems difficult to be changed. I am sure every professional develops their professional attitudes through training and re-training and never a sudden achievement. You may need to sermonise and positively tease her to understand you in a sensible way. This is what make you a man that can head a home. "TO BE A COMPLETE HUSBAND IS NOT TWO MONTH JOURNEY AND NOT JUST TO SAY I LOVE YOU BUT TO BE ENDURING AND PATIENCE WHEN EVENTS DEMANDS". Just like this one! God is your strength. Pray hard also.
