Mystic1: Ah ah!! But in the screenshots above you called Pogba shitty in one and Lazy in another. How far na? Abi na lekkie fotochop the shots?
What are you talking about? Nothing like that. Go back and read again, it was about having poor match day or not being able to help the team. Also that Pogba was allowed to have 90 minutes always no matter his performance.
Most importantly, I am still waiting for when I said he is waste of money.
lekkie073: pogba is lazy..... Pogba is A shitty Player....
what more do u need as 'points'?
those terms r used when u describe someone in perpetuity. meaning Dats how he has been, Dats how he is and Dats how he will continue to be
eph1 is an adult. can anything change dat? behaving like a teenager wouldn't change dat, abi?
I never said Pogba is lazy or shitty. You are trying too hard to make a point that will never exist. I remember saying Pogba was over holding the ball and doing unnecessary leg over. I was one of those who was very lenient with Pogba because I knew he had potentials.
You no know ball. Match day criticism is normal, mostly after a defeat to a small team and everyone here pounced on Rooney while protecting others.
SailorXY: I think "genuine" matchday criticism should not apply to new players for obvious reasons, but that's my opinion. If Pogba was playing poorly now & you propose he's offered as burnt offering to the gods of Edo, nobody will oppose it.
If you made Kante your benchmark that's nobody's fault. It's because you were influenced by opposing fans who were so eager to ensure your new players don't settle in well. There's no rule that says who started better will come out tops after all is done.
I wasn't even making the post because of you, it's just a general observation.
Listen to yourself. How can genuine match day criticism not apply to new players? Schneiderlin, Fellaini, Darmian, Butner, Lindelof, Di Maria, Falcao, Tosic, Obertan, etc should never have been criticized because we had a few players who turned it around the second season?
Some guys are still saying Pogba is yet to play against the big 6, so we should be calm and not carried away.
lekkie073: nah.... just there there is a time for everything. a time to post rubbish emotionally and a time to be reminded of the rubbish u posted emotionally
You are the one that is being emotional. Nothing in those screenshots to suggest Pogba was being called a waste.
No player, whether 1 million pounds or 100 million pounds that didn't get match day bashing last season.
Moreover, Pogba was mostly shite last season. Herrera and Valencia won the team player of season when we had Pogba.
Direct comparism between Rooney and Pogba while quoting Pogba's price tag after a poor match. Pogba was not the main culprit for that poor game but alas, he was mentioned along with his price tag.
That was because Rooney's weekly wages of 300k was mentioned week after week.
Again, mention of price tag didn't mean I said it was a waste of money. Reason maturely. It meant he was suppose to bear the biggest blame ahead of Rooney.
lekkie073: u don't need to call him barberlord when u say "considering d amount of money blah blah blah, ain't u indirectly saying the same thing as 'waste of money'
I can't see anything in what you dug up. Normal Rooney talk on a match day.
SailorXY: I think we need to learn how to be patient with new players. For those that played this game even @ street competition level here know that sometimes it takes you time to get going when you step onto an unfamiliar pitch.
The way we join fans of other clubs to jump on our new players here is appalling. Yes he's not playing well but is he the first like that? In recent memory we have seen the likes of Vidic, Evra & de Gea all mess up their first few months till they had a turn around & became gods. Agreed not all will be good signings but @ least give them room to fail.
Where are all the "waste of money", "barber to barber" chanting mongrels now? abeg we call ourselves "supporters" for a reason.
On your last paragraph, some of you are mistaking genuine match day criticism of players to mean condemnation. That was what Lekkie073 just did.
To set the record straight, I never called Pogba any of those names - Barber, haircut, waste of money -, but considering the amount of money that he was bought with and the fact that that he was performing far below Kante, he deserved the scrutiny.
patrickmuf: I feel the closest player to Pogba in our books in terms of passing range is Andreas Pereira, we should recall him come January and let him deputize for Pogba...Herrera should rotate with Matic for games against the bottom teams at Old Trafford, Mou should rotate to avoid burnout of key personnel. Now unto the next game, if Shaw doesn't start at Basle then he is officially gone. I'd love to see Rojo and Shaw in the first team for the trip to Basle I just hope Mou will not start Matic and Lukaku, they need a bit of rest...
patrickmuf: You are spot on, I was going to respond to those criticizing Mata but thank God you did, he makes us play better along with Pogba, always showing up for a pass...Mhki is the one that should buckle up...
Mkhitaryan likes to be very direct while Mata is more useful in the slow build up. The more direct player is usually the better player, but he needs good build up players around him to help his directness.
The more direct player is likely going to make more wrong passes, fail to make a good first touch and lose possession because he is thinking of how to attack with the ball rather than making a pass (backward, sideward, forward).
So a player like Mkhitaryan might go to a team like Barca or Bayern and excel while a player like Mata might go to such teams to make up the numbers. In United, Mkhitaryan might play better with a player like Pogba and Martial. These guys take men away from the number 10. He will be able to do counter with a player like Rashford when Pogba gives that long pass.
lekkie073: maybe u didn't watch evra when he arrived. after 3 games ppl were already writing him off. this time last season ppl (like elampiro) were already talking rubbish about pogba. I guess they can't say the same presently.
You are wrong. Show me what rubbish I wrote about Pogba at this time last season.
We need to buy another midfielder who can play near as good as Pogba in case of injuries.
Pogba is boss of midfield. Gbosoa!!!
Good game. All the players tried. I think Lindelof will be good. Mata did well, even beyond my expectation. I used to support Mkhitaryan, but I think Mata can do it.
Also, Martial proven he can deliver when started. Martial and Rashford can be our next Rooney and Ronaldo.
But I don't understand what role Ibrahimovic would play in the midst of these fast young guys. He might just cause a selection problem, except he agrees to play from the bench.
funlord: Since Patrice evra has been sacked by his club and he is eligible to play for us in the champions league does it not make sense for us to just sign him up on a 6 month contract till the end of the season? He is still better than all our current left backs combined!
Some people earn millions monthly. Some bank managers earn N1million, some regional bank head earn 3-5 million. We have people who earn higher, and those oil workers. We have governors, politicians.
airmark: ''As life goes on I'm starting to learn more and more about responsibility I realize everything I do is affecting the people around me So I want to take this time out to apologize for things I have done''
Put the blame on me for morata's goal. Put the blame on me for azpilicueta's perfect cross. Put the blame on me for bailey airmarking.
I am the reason for your pain, you can put the blame on me. You can put the blame on me. You can put the blame on me.
1-0 at the bridge una dey celebrate like this. What if you guys beat United home and away in UCL as we did to you guys in 2009, or if you beat United in UCL final as we did in 2008, that means sky will fall.
chrisley024: Why would Jones, a CB, be coming out that far to mark Yoko who does not even have the ball CBs rush into the midfield to make tackles or interception snuffing out danger not to be policing a midfielder. Jones should've have either; pressed Azpi to prevent him from making that pass, though the huge distance between the 2 could make it hard, or stayed with his CBs which means Morata wouldn't have nodded the ball unchallenged. But dude exposed his defence and yet did nothing in the midfield to prevent the pass from coming in. Infact, when the the pass was made Jones was infront of Matic looking clueless and marking no one.
Unto da next game
Did you notice that most analysts blamed Smalling or/and Bailly for the goal?
patrickmuf: But at the same time, what he lacks in physicality, he makes up for it with superior technique. I am so sure if Pep was our coach, he'd be fielding a team that has Martial, Mhkitaryan, Mata, Herrera, Rashford and we'd be playing excellent attacking football. Mourinho has to approach big games with a mindset to win, we should stop trying to contain other teams, let them worry about us, I am so sure most opposition players fear Martial, Rashford and the likes but Mou set's up to contain them rather than make them ulter their plans to deal with our attacking threat. If Mou was to coach Barca and they came up against Palace, he'd tell Messi, 'hey look, this is Zaha, he is very dangerous, you need to track back to limit his effectiveness'...
When last did you see superior technique from Mata?
Queenlovely: Rip sir. I know him very well. A coworker at NLNG bonny Gas company.
I just slipped and lost conscious at Lyon in France. Doctor recommended regular heart check-up. Ever since I never missed an appointment. I do comprehensive Medical test
It looks like you know everyone. Na who you be?
You know celebrities, you met Jim Iyke, you met this, that.
I checked your profile pic, it same you. But you get fine face sha.
Leyqute: Quite right. We are have one of the slowest midfield players in the league. The speed at which we pass the ball around is the slowest amongst the top 6 teams. In addition, the transition from defence to attack isn't what it should be and we don't have the player who can deliver that final pass.
But we have a run of fixtures which are very winnable. If we keep up with this confidence level we'll reduce the point gap by the end of the year or even be on top.
Pogba is back Fellaini is back Rojo is back
No excuse.
But next season, we might need to upgrade on Herrera and Mkhitaryan.
Nevertheless I can't absolve Jones of any wrongdoing. He didn't block Azpili's cross, didn't force him into making a mistake or to put in a poor cross, and above all, he didn't in any way contribute in defending the goal. All he did was to create a space for Alfa Blue to run into which pulled Smalling out of his position.
He wasn't tracking Azpilicueta initially, it was when Azpilicueta kept advancing towards our area that he decided to track him.
The whole defensive set up was bad. Smalling being the centre of three man defence should never have gone out of position. If he stayed, there was no way an incoming area ball would beat him. He would even have directed the rest players to take positions. But he joined four others on the right, yet Chelsea still managed to pass us out of the that position into the middle.
It was a similar thing when Jones picked a yellow. Hazard escaped three markers before Jones hacked him down. Why crowding one player or the ball?
Zonal marking should have solved it. Three men at the back should have stayed tight leaving the rest to roam.
"I thought they got killed in midfield.Jose Mourinho, since the Liverpool game, has talked about not being able to freshen it up. I thought Herrera, Matic and Mkhitaryan got absolutely ambushed.
"(N'Golo) Kante was doing his job brilliantly, (Tiemoue) Bakayoko was running off him, (Eden) Hazard and (Cesc) Fabregas were dropping in and controlling the match. United were just well short in that area. If you dominate midfield in the big games, you're in business and Chelsea did. I think Pogba is a big miss because of his confidence and arrogance. He takes the ball into tight areas, holds the ball, beats a man. Michael Carrick, too - he delivers those passes up to strikers, to the side of defenders, and I think those two players would have made a big difference."
The intent by united was there but if you haven't got quality and composure in midfield, you're going to struggle. Passes weren't connected, whereas with Chelsea, there was rhythm in their passing. Chelsea had rhythm, United only had moments. For me, Fabregas was the man of the match because he got control of the game and that was the difference for me. Chelsea's midfield gripped this game. I don't feel Manchester United's midfield did."
"Were Chelsea deserved winners? Yes. I think United had 15 minutes at the start where they showed intent. There was a big chance for Marcus Rashford, a good chance for Lukaku about 20 minutes into the game, Chelsea started to get a handle on it and it was in midfield: Bakayoko's runs, Kante controlling the defensive line and - more importantly, Hazard starting to drop in with Fabregas."
"Manchester United started with real purpose and intent to go and damage Chelsea - you could see Jose Mourinho felt that if he could get that first goal, that this crowd could get anxious and the players might lose confidence. But from 20 minutes onwards, Chelsea were by far the better team. They really put in a good performance. You talk about them being champions last season and dropping off this year but that was a high level."
Good one. I was also going to say this about our midfield. Matic, Herrera and Mkhitaryan are slower in movement than Kate, Bakayoko. Perhaps, the reason our defenders were coming into midfield to halt Chelsea.
We are very fast at the back and front but slow in the middle of the park. If Fellaini started we could have distorted them with long balls, and if Pogba were available we could hold the ball better.
I read Lingard was about to come in for Mkhitaryan before the goal, then Mourinho changed his mind and called Lingard back. That shows he knew we needed some speed in midfield. The team will learn from this.
patrickmuf: Can you imagine? Mou thinks Mata isn't physically suited to go up against that Chelsea team but across the street is Pep doing wonders with players of similar stature...For Mou, it's all about physicality...
The truth is Mata is not as strong as those boys and doesn't have half their speed. Mata has also been in poor form.
If Mata is in form, we could play him and Blind to help Mkhitaryan with passing. Our technical play was good in the start of the season when Mata, Blind, Pogba and Mkhitaryan were on the field together. Although Blind left a hole behind him most times.
patrickmuf: That we lost isn't the ish, I'm yet to understand what our game plan was all about, we weren't attacking with any conviction nor were we resolute in defence, Chelsea had us split open time after time as it was obvious our center backs didn't know who they were supposed to mark...Mou shouldn't have waited till we were a goal down to alter the formation and personnel, he could have been more proactive...Mhkitaryan has been serving us shiit or rather served us shiit for the entirety of the first half, why persist with him when you have an arguably better player in Mata on the bench. Very poor performance today.
Sometimes coaches get their tactics wrong. It happened to us yesterday. Mourinho always want to 'nullify' Hazard.
I didn’t watch first half yesterday, but I saw the highlight. In the second half there was so much policing of Chelsea players around the field such that we lost shape at the back. Jones got his yellow card marking Hazard high up the field. Bailly also went high up many times to tackle. Smalling too went high but did some neat jobs going out of position, although in two occasions from the highlights, Jones and Bailly covered for him.
We have to stop thinking Chelsea have superior players than us. With this match we have given them psychological advantage over us after we beat them last season.
The last minutes of the match revealed we could have played better. But I have a feeling Mourinho told himself that if we must lose to Chelsea, the scoreline must not be high. Last season when we lost heavily to Chelsea, we played some good football.
Now you can see why Ashley Young couldn't move. Zappacosta was right there.
Overall, if we played zonal marking instead of man marking in open play, there was no way two of the defenders wouldn't be in the box waiting for long balls to clear. 5 players were drawn to the right leaving the center open.
It looks like Mourinho told them to go press for the ball as soon as Chelsea got it. But it backfired
Jones going back and Matic going back. No one is tracking Azpilicueta and there is no way Jones knows if central defence is vacated by Smalling and Bailly (After all Jones can only see two United players ahead of him . Matic has a better view of the situation.
This is the goal. (Bad network won't allow me to make a gif)
After watching the replay, I think Jones is at fault the most. Matic (or even Young) should be the one marking Azpillicueta, not Jones. Bakayoko ran into the space he created and drew Smalling away from Morata. That's how the goal happened.
I have watched the replay many times. I think I have to exonerate Jones.
There is a Chelsea player (number 21), who Young was keeping an eye on. Jones was right to go for Azpilicueta as everyone else went to the right. We were five players against three Chelsea players on the right.
Matic saw Azpilicueta advancing towards our box, Jones was going backwards but instead of Matic to go take out Azpilicueta, he was also running into our box area. As Azpilicueta kept advancing, Jones went for him, Matic however stopped tracking back freeing Bakayoko
chrisley024: What exactly did he go into that midfield to do? The guy he went to mark still ran into our box resulting in Smalling tracking him and the space was created.
There was no one in central defence while Chelsea were building. Smalling, Bailly, Matic all joined Valencia and Herrera on the right side of our defence. When the ball came to the middle, Jones was trying to track Bakayoko, but the ball didn't go to him, so Jones tried to stop Azpilicueta from making use of the ball since he was already out of position. At that point, Matic should have been slotting in for Jones. But Matic failed to track Bakayoko run into our box which got Smalling confused.
At the end, it was man marking that caused all the confusion. If all three defenders were to stick together throughout, and midfielders allowed to do with the first markings, it would have been a better match for us in my opinion.
