lekkie073:Is it only Otelul you saw there? Did you not see he played against Everton? And I thought had Arteta, Barkely, Tim Cahil at the time. He also bossed the midfield in the Britena Arena in a crucial game in the run in 2012/13 season. 2016 Rooney bossed the midfield in two games in Wembley He bossed about three league games He bossed the Russia game and the game against Wales. This is someone who is not an out and out midfielder. |
Everyone is entitled to his opinion. I know since SAF's era, 90% of the time Rooney has played in midfield he has performed outstandingly well. Some have often said he could be as good as Scholes if he continued there. Same he did under Moyes, the game against West Ham comes to mind. At Wembley, Rooney bossed the midfield twice in FA semi final and final. Yet they said he cannot pass. If Mourinho implied Rooney cannot pass in midfield, then he wouldn't have penned him for the number 10 where it is more difficult to pass. |
Ferguson lauds 'brilliant' Rooney after Man Utd midfield role 3 years ago < 500 READS M nchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson was delighted with the performance of Wayne Rooney in central midfield on Sunday. The England striker was moved into the middle of the pitch for the clash with Stoke City at Britannia Stadium and Ferguson was full of praise for the way he performed in the 2-0 victory. "He was brilliant. I was thinking he possibly needed a different role in terms of getting his confidence back. He has been under a bit of criticism, not serious, but there were some doubters nonetheless," he told Sky Sports. "He's a fantastic player and our job is to get that confidence and form back. I thought a spell in midfield would do him the world of good and it worked for us." www.tribalfootball.com/articles/ferguson-lauds-brilliant-rooney-after-man-utd-midfield-role-3926361 |
Elrony substabdard midfielder hailed by SAF Ferguson hails midfielder Rooney Thu, Nov 3, 2011 Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson praised Wayne Rooney's performance in an unaccustomed central midfield role in the 2-0 Champions League victory over Otelul Galati. The England international played in a withdrawn position in the weekend win over Everton and found himself alongside Anderson for the Group C match because of injuries to Michael Carrick and Tom Cleverley, while Darren Fletcher is working his way back to fitness. Rooney responded by dictating from deep as it was his long diagonal pass which started the build-up to Antonio Valencia's eighth-minute goal and he rounded off a laboured team performance with a hugely-deflected goal seven minutes from time. "I think he was our best player. He showed great awareness of that role," said Ferguson. He added: "His selection of passes at times was very good and showed great energy and determination - we got a really good performance out of him. We had injuries and that is one of the reasons we played him there. Cleverley is injured, Carrick is injured, Darren Fletcher played on Saturday but it was better he played next Saturday. "It was an option for us and a good option because he has all the qualities you need to be a central midfield player. The first thing you have to say about him is that he receives the ball very well. "He is aided by the fact he plays in a forward role, when receiving the ball is more of an issue but that was an advantage for him. I am not surprised the team we were playing against were aggressive in defending so he has to take credit in being able to handle that part." www.express.co.uk/sport/football/281468/Ferguson-hails-midfielder-Rooney |
elrony:How did I defend Rooney? I am only making clarification. Again, Rooney actually defended himself when he came from injury last season. He did very well in midfield, but I actually prefer him in attack. Let him fight for his place there. |
SailorXY:This kind of asumption is why there is so much argument on this thread. Then there are some whose brains are conditioned to read any news concerning Rooney in the negative. This is why it was hard for these people to comprehend what Mourinho said yesterday. As for you, no one has argued with you when you said all the players start from same level. No one argued with you when you draw a formation without Rooney. Wetin be your own sef? Everyone is going to fight for his position. We are also going to have some injuries. For instance people complained last season Herrera was not being used, but when everyone else was injured Herrera was given the chance and he got tired of it. Even if Rooney starts from the bench, it is a long season where many things will happen. May be the rejected stone will be the corner stone. Rooney is like a cat with nine lives. But wait! You even missed the argument completely. Lekkie073 implied SAF wanted to sell Rooney. But Lekkie073 was wrong. |
FIVE THINGS WE LEARNED FROM JOSE MOURINHO'S EXCLUSIVE MUTV INTERVIEW Jose Mourinho shared some of his immediate plans at Manchester United when he provided an exclusive one-to-one interview to MUTV after his maiden press conference. We pinpointed the following five things that we learned from Mourinho's conversation with MUTV reporter Stewart Gardner, which was first shown on the club's official television channel on Tuesday evening: TRAINING STARTS ON THURSDAY When asked how hungry he is to get started, the new manager replied: "I'm desperate! I want to train on the pitch and, in spite of many players not being here to start pre-season, I have a group that is waiting for me on Thursday and they will feel my passion!" A DIFFERENT STYLE WILL BE PLAYED Mourinho explained he will bring his own style of football to the club. "Yes, we want to play differently than last season. Mr [Louis] van Gaal is an absolute top manager and his philosophy is very clear. My philosophy is different. It's not better, it's different. My football is different. I am more vertical, I am more intense and I like the ball possession as a way to create a chance to be vertical. I don’t like ball possession as a way to just keep statistically possession of the ball and be afraid to play a game with transitions. Transitions always come during a game. I’m not afraid to lose the ball, I’m not afraid of risk." WHY WE SIGNED BAILLY The manager feels Ivory Coast defender Eric Bailly possesses a rare blend of qualities. "It’s not so easy to find a big guy who is really fast. But he is a player that we believe has all the attributes. He is very strong physically and [is also] very fast." ENGLAND TRIO WON'T PLAY ON TOUR Although United's England Euro 2016 contingent of Chris Smalling, Marcus Rashford and Wayne Rooney are set to travel with the squad to China later this month, they will not feature in the games against Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City. "I'll take them but I'm not going to play them," revealed Mourinho. TWO YOUNGSTERS PROMOTED INTO SQUAD FOR WIGAN Tyrell Warren and Axel Tuanzebe are likely to be involved in the pre-season friendly at the DW Stadium after the two young defenders were name-checked by the boss during the interview. He told MUTV: "I don't know them well but I just trust Nicky Butt, [head of football development] John Murtough and the [youth] structure's judgement, when they say we have a few players who, in a couple of years, can be first-team players." |
Rooney requests transfer Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that Wayne Rooney has put in a transfer request to leave Manchester United. Last Updated: 13/05/13 10:26am Sky Sports Speculation in recent days has linked Rooney with moves to Paris St Germain, Bayern Munich or Chelsea in the summer. The 27-year-old forward was omitted from the squad for Ferguson's final game in charge at Old Trafford, a 2-1 win against Swansea, fuelling the rumours of an impending exit. And Ferguson confirmed after the match that Rooney has asked to leave the club but indicated that he is still hopeful the England international will change his mind. "I don't think Wayne was keen to play, simply because he's asked for a transfer," the Scot told Sky Sports. "I think he wants to think things through in his own mind. I think that's a good idea. We're not going to let him go. "I think he's maybe a bit frustrated at being taken off once or twice in the past few weeks." This is the second time that Rooney has asked to leave Old Trafford, also requesting a move in October 2010 before agreeing a new deal with the club. Sky Sports' Gary Neville says the striker needs to sort himself out. "Wayne is an emotional lad and you can see in the last couple of months he hasn't quite been himself," said Neville. "Wayne Rooney wears his heart on his sleeve. He fights every refereeing decision. But he has been a bit vacant on the pitch. You can see something is wrong. "But there is nowhere to go from here. I have seen players join Real Madrid and other great clubs in Europe. But they always want to come back. "If you play for this club for 20 years it is not a bed of roses. You struggle mentally at times. He will be going through a difficult moment. "But in a couple of weeks he will be coming away with England. Then he needs to have the summer off and hopefully get his head back to being a Manchester United player." Neville feels Rooney's family, and agent Paul Stretford, have a crucial role to play over the next few weeks. "This is a good kid," said Neville. "He needs to surround himself with his family and his players. The ones who have been here for a long time will bring him round. "He is not someone who will make rash decisions but he needs people around him to give him good advice. He has an agent and friends. They need to be giving him the right advice. www.skysports.com/football/news/11667/8709526/wayne-rooney-has-put-in-a-transfer-request-to-leave-manchester-united Lekkie073, you see. As at summer 2013, Barca and Madrid had joined the race for Rooney. If he knew he should have gone instead of working with players and managers wey dey spoil leg. Di Maria was very wise, he took off before he could get worse. Nani and Chicha were still sonewhat lucky, dem for end up like Anderson. If not for Rooney's world class brain, he would have been out already. ![]() |
lekkie073:Rooney asked for a transfer request, at the time Barca, Chelsea, PSG and Madrid were asking for his service. But SAF begged told to stay. .............................. Ferguson: Rooney is going nowhere Share: Sir Alex Ferguson insists Wayne Rooney will still be at Manchester United next season. Ferguson left Rooney out of the United line-up for Tuesday's Champions League defeat by Real Madrid, since when it has been suggested the Red Devils boss would be willing to accept an offer for the striker this summer. However, speaking ahead of Sunday's FA Cup quarter-final with Chelsea, Ferguson denied that was the case. "He will be here next year, you have my word on that," he said. "There is no issue between myself and Wayne Rooney. To suggest we don't talk is nonsense. "He understood the reasons completely. Tactically we got it right. We don't always but we did then. "There are no issues with the player and he will be involved on Sunday. "I left out Shinji Kagawa after he scored a hat-trick. I thought I would get more stick for that." Ferguson is still bitter about the circumstances of Tuesday's defeat, in particular the dismissal of Nani, on which the entire contest turned. "It is hard to keep your faith when you have things like that," said Ferguson. m.heraldscotland.com/sport/13095242.Ferguson__Rooney_is_going_nowhere/ |
PietroRico:If his star is faded he will not be playing in the EPL. He will be in MLS. The question you should ask is if his star is fading. |
Leyqute:Was it me that started the line of discussion? The person who started it should have put his comment in proper tense and perspective. Secondly there is nothing debatable if Rooney was world class. You don't get to FIFA XI forward three by chance. |
Spy360:So ask yourself why Rooney has always been praised (over 90%) of the time he played in midfield since Ferguson's era. Even Ferguson used him to do some jobs there and commended him. Get a brain. |
MOURINHO DEFENDS YOUTH RECORD “I have promoted 49 youth players from Academies. If you want, I can give you that list. Two factors that are very important on these records, because sometimes you promote because you don’t have another chance or so many injuries, you have to bring them in. The second factor is when you are not playing for big targets then it is easier to bring them up. My record of injuries is very, very low. I never promote players because of a need – I do it because of conviction." |
José Mourinho has persuaded Wayne Rooney to abandon plans to reinvent himself as a midfielder and revealed that Manchester United have accelerated their attempts to sign his fourth major target, thought to be Paul Pogba. And Chief executive, Ed Woodward has already held face-to-face talks with the player’s representatives. Rooney has already had a two-hour meeting with Mourinho and will now revert to playing in attack, with Mourinho making it clear he does not agree with Van Gaal or Roy Hodgson, that a player who will be 31 in October should play as a midfielder. As Woodward met Mino Raiola, agent to Pogba and Mkhitaryan – primarily to finalise the Armenian’s salary – in Monaco, Mourinho also made it clear he would not emulate Van Gaal’s habit of targeting players who could operate in different roles. ^^^ Just saw this now. It is not different from what I said about the issue. |
SailorXY:The guy question no make sense. So I gave it to him back. He said I used to claim Rooney is a world class centre forward. So why am I suggesting he should reinvent himself. So I reminded him of the record books. Lol |
GBR1:Record books say Rooney is a world class forward. |
MrTA:His name is in the record books as a world class forward. |
Nihilist:The issue here is not whether his star has faded. The issue is that Mourinho said Rooney will be more useful to him in crowded zone than less crowded midfield. |
Leyqute:Same way Drogba gave way to Diego Costa. Henry gave way to Adebayo. World class doesn't mean you have to play till 90 years. |
Spy360:If you had common sense, you would know that someone shitty as a midfielder cannot play as number 10. Mourinho meant the midfield is too small for Rooney. |
SailorXY:Yes you have a point. We need pace in attack. But Cavani is not exactly pacing. We will begin to see things from pre-season. |
GBR1:How is he not a world class forward? |
Rooney might not get an automatic place this time. Mourinho will try to bring the best out of him in the forward roles. But keeping a place there will depend on Rooney’s ability to reinvent himself in the forward positions. He might just do it playing with Ibrahimovic. We have to wait and see. |
GBR1:There is no insincerity here. Just answer this question, which position is easier to make passes, 8 or 10? |
Nihilist:He didn’t imply Rooney cannot pass in deeper position. He implied that passing in deeper position is easy, hence Rooney is too big to play there. He should be fighting for the more advanced positions. |
The full interview is on United official website below. Jose was asked where will Rooney play. He said he will not play him in deeper roles where passes are easy, and the game is easy. But once a scorer is a scorer with natural appetite for goal. Rooney might not fit for a striker anymore, but he can play 10 or even strike. This is my simple understanding. Number 10 is more difficult to play than number 8. www.manutd.com/en/MatchTrackerSeasons/2015-16/United-Today-Live-Blog/2015-16/July-2016/Jose-Mourinho-unveiling-blog.aspx?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=post&utm_campaign=ManUtd |
Dadehmola:Yet Mourinho wants to play him in number 10 which is most crowded? You no know book. |
Nihilist:Read it again WHERE WILL ROONEY PLAY? “There are many jobs and the one that is more difficult to find is the guy that puts the ball in the net. Players change during the years, their qualities and characteristics. It is normal that a player of his age changes, but something that will never change is the natural appetite to put the ball in the net. Maybe he is not a striker anymore, or a nine, but he will never be a six playing 50 metres from the goal. He will be a nine, a 10, a nine and a half, but not a six or eight." |
Dadehmola:You no know book. Mourinho is even holding Rooney higher than what you guys think. Playing in deeper position means you are finished as an attacking player. Mourinho is saying Rooney can still play in the attack. |
GBR1: This is not what Mourinho means. He meant passes are easier in deeper positions. That same place Rooney made great/sexy passes in Wembley and our last league games is where many have failed to complete simple Square passes in previous games. |
