dubylhover:I agree with Scholes. Martial wouldn't find a place in SAF team of 2006-2009. He could have gotten a few starts from 2010-2013. Martial doesn't carry the team as Nani did for us when Ronaldo left. Or as Val did for us in his first two or three seasons. |
dubylhover:You didn't pay attention to details. What they meant is that in a normal Manchester United team (like we had under SAF) Martial wouldn't be a starter. That's during Scholes' era. Ferdinand also implied same. He said he could list 6 players who left who are better than the players who faced Liverpool. |
Kagawa10:Forget that thing. Carrick was there when we lost at Old Trafford to Southampton. He was there when Cambrigde drew us and almost disgraced us. If the defence is wobbling the midfielders wont get going all day, and even forward players would join in helping to defend. So much amount of time would be spent trying to stopped opposition from scoring. Ashley Young was easily our best outfield player last season. Carrick was fortunate to be around when the team was well stuffed in various positions, but I am not taking away his contributions. |
dubylhover:I can't get the link again. But I saw it after Liverpool eliminated us from Europa. Scholes and Ferdinand blasted the kids. Although Scholes said the boys did better in the second leg than the first. It was the second time he said United ought not rely on a 20 years old. After we were eliminated from UCL, he said something. That Martial's time has not really arrived. |
Kagawa10:It was not only because of Carrick. The period Carrick was fit to play coincided with the period Phil Jones and Smalling partnered, and Ashley Young fit to play too. Phil Jones and Smalling did not lose a match last season when they started at CB together, and that record was there for many years. |
dubylhover:Neymar is an established player. Barca hooked him down for two years and allowed him to mature in Brazil. At that time he was already Brazil most reliable player. According to Scholes, Martial wouldn't start in Manchester United if things were okay. |
adeyemi2015:When you start adding players like Zico and Sinisa Mihalovic you will discover that Ronaldo and Messi have no business being in top 10 of all time. Maradona and Platini were also great freekick scorers. |
I think LVG is trying to get Mephis into gear. Because if he hits form, he will be great for us in the long run. But Mephis has refused to mature his game and LVG sometimes appear to force him into the left position when there is a better option. When the season started, Memphis had so much opportunity at the expense of Ashley Young who always showed quality whenever he plays there. There are still times we need experience. Like in the Europa cup against Liverpool, a player like Ashley Young would have done far more damage than even Marital. Also against West Ham in FA Cup. In the last match against City, Martial and Rashford showed good combination. I it will be interesting to see how we carry on from here with the senior players returning. I think the senior guys should start from the bench though and gradually brought in. |
SIRcumalot:Ronaldo was very good while at United but has regressed badly since joining Madrid. I think he is there because of the position of the ball. Carlos can be there because he scored many freekicks. But with the position of the ball, he has no business being there. |
AdeLaNa1:Messi will not make top 10 of all time. Juninho is the the best ever. |
adeyemi2015:Yes. He is the best ever. The one who scored freekicks like penalties. He could score from every angle |
adeyemi2015:1. |
adeyemi2015:Number 1 or 2 |
Kagawa10:That part is highly contestable. Last season, Rooney, Mata and Herrera were in the team that won 6 matches in a row beating Spurs, Liverpool and City with good margin. Before then they went 11 matches unbeaten in the first half of the season. This season, we started playing well when suddenly players got injured. I think the problem is largely dependent on how LVG mix his players in midfield and defence too. LVG most effective formation is 4-1-4-1. If Carrick is the DM, there is has to Schneirderlin or Herrera or Rooney in front of him who can quickly drop to provide a cover. Lingard is also very mobile and defence minded. If we play two in midfield, we should also ensure Schneirderlin gets in first. Our defence has to be solid too. Having Smalling, Rojo and Darmian playing at same time gives a good Security at the base. Now Valencia is coming in, we could get back to that time we had the least goals conceded when we were top of the league. |
If England started Euro 2016 tomorrow with a fully fit squad, who would start? Sportsmail's reporters give their verdict http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3505795/If-England-started-Euro-2016-tomorrow-fully-fit-squad-start-Sportsmail-s-reporters-verdict.html Here eleven sports reporters of daily mail made their analysis of selected starting 11. Seven picked Wayne Rooney. I am certainly not going to bring every article here. I know too before the last intentional break many said Rooney shouldn't start. Then he was dropped rested against Spain, England were woeful. He started against France, England attacking play was vibrant and Rooney was the reason. After the match all the pundits changed their mind and said Rooney is the first on starting 11. |
GBR1:It depends on the section of fans polled. I follow some websites where fans were making comment, most said Rooney deserve to start. Even journalists. |
dubylhover:I am a fan and supporter of the Three Lions. This their current team is good. But this is not the first time England has won in Germany. I was already many years into supporting them when a young English side shocked the world and won 5-1 in Germany in 2002 world cup qualifying match. This team is trying and Rooney was among first to say it immediately after they crash out in world cup in Brazil. He said the team is different and has many talents. There is still a long way to go. Even some players might get injured before the tournament, particularly the young ones trying to impress badly. Some might not show consistency in the remaining friendlies. I am sure they still have about four before the tournament. |
dubylhover:Are quailifiers not important matches? For your information, Rooney has less friendly goals than the other England top scorers including Charlton. Again apart from Charton, which other England top scorer has won trophies? Even CR7 might end trophyless based on the side he finds himself. CR7 also has far more goals in quailifiers and friendlies. dubylhover:You don't watch England matches. Rooney was very fast against France and Scotland. Against Italy, Kane's speed went to waste. But we keep hearing football is faster, yet Rooney outlived Defoe and Bent who have almost Olympic sprinting speed. dubylhover:We don't need you to support England. You are already a supporter only out of sentiments. England won one match without Rooney we sudenely saw you, busying your body. How would you have a good analysis when you don't watch their matches? As I said, England has only lost one match since summer 2014, the one Rooney was rested. How come we didn't see you when Rooney helped England to win 90% of their matches and lost 0%? Since Rooney came on board he had helped England to qualify for all world cups and Euro, mostly winning their groups and not needing to go though play off. The only Euro England missed was the one Rooney was injured and not available to play the final match in Wembley. A star studed English team lost to Croatian in Wembley. |
lekkie073:Rooney is not effective again? You certainly don't watch England matches. Even Liverpool fans would generally not tall like this. 2 goals against Scotland in 3-2 away win. One goal and one Assist against France plus a MOTM performance in 2-0 over France. Went past two Slovania defenders easily before being down on the box to win an equalizer in a difficult game. All these are recent matches. Even against Italy. |
dubylhover:Rooney and Kane played as two strikers against Italy. While Rooney was lively, Kane was anonymous. Forget about penalties. Rooney has not scored many. And his penalties are mostly against weak sides. He had goals from mostly open play against big oppositions. Rooney average about one goal per match which is about same as Kane. And Rooney mostly play behind another striker or one of two strikers. Even when Rooney was playing behind Sturridge, he scored more goals than Sturridge without penalties. |
This was Rooney against France. Many reports said without his experience, the match would be deadlock. I saw the match live, and I agreed. He made use of his sense well in taking good positions, making good control, and picking clever passes. He sometimes traveled with the ball, but his best contributions came from his build up play in the final third.
|
Did you people just start watching England today? Have I not been saying this England team is very good and different? But because Rooney missed this match, his haters are quickly out of their holes to claim the team sudenely discovered form. Where una dey since? I follow England matches a lot. I missed yesterday's game because of Easter rush. |
lekkie073:The way Rooney played before his injury scoring and assiting in every match for United has been the way he has been a playing for England. Even when he was struggling in United, the English press agreed that his form in England was different. lekkie073:Where did Vardy and Kane scored? In a tournament? Sturridge will do better than Kane and Vardy if he can get match rythm. |
Dadehmola:Reason this: England has lost only one game since Rooney became captain. That was the game Rooney didn't start. If you watched Rooney in England you would commend the way he and Sterling have destroyed everything on their way. Na today we dey see more pacing and power players than Rooney? Carol, Defoe, Bent, to list a few, have all been more pacing and powering than Rooney. Vardy scored one back hill, Kane scored from a turn and so what! |
AdeLaNa1:Hater! England cannot do without Rooney. The coach and journalist know it. The fans following know that. |
lekkie073:I will assume you aren't following England matches, so I can excuse your ignorance. Rooney for England and Rooney for Manchester United are two different persons. Why do you think the journalist quickly came out to say despite the result over Germany, Rooney deserves to start. These same journalist wanted him to be dropped in the world cup matches. If he is finished, how was he able to shine against France in a star studded match, had a good against Italy. Scored two against Scotland with a good performance. Two years back he scored in two legs against Brazil. Scored in England, and then a great solo goal in Brazil to help England draw the match 1-1. |
Rooney became captain of England and they won 10-10 for the first time in qualifiers. England has only lost one match since Summer 2014 when he became captain. Against Slovania, England were down late on, Rooney took the ball and went past two men in the box, then he was brought down. He scored the equalizer and England eventually won. He also had a good game in the friendly against Scotland scoring twice in their 3-2 win. Anyone following England knows that Rooney deserves to start over anyone in the attack. Sterling is another deserving starter. Welbeck was on fire before his injury. Vardy and Kane might show inconsistency when the real stuff starts. As we saw against Italy when Kane was lost. I heard too he was not in the game yesterday until late on. |
dubylhover:So because they won without Rooney, they suddenly don't need him? Rooney scored and provided an assist in their 2-0 win over France. Rooney and Dele Ali were the two best players of the match. Rooney was their greatest threat when they he and Kane led the line against Italy. Kane was anonymous while Buffon was the hero saving from Rooney twice and the woodwork stopped another from Rooney. Rooney is their lead scorer in the qualifier. Also the lead scorer in their last three qualifiers to major tournaments. England scored two goals in the world cup, Rooney provided one and scored the other. He was dropped in the last match but Sturbridge, Sterling and co didn't look like scoring even if the match was extended for several more hours. |
elrony:I said it yesterday. But Eagles own was mostly due to underrating the Egyptians thereby throwing too many men forward. Even at 85th minute, the marking was lackadiscal as forward players left it to midfieders and defenders. The coach making attacking changes and believing the game was won. Even the commenrator said the Egyptians didn't look like scoring but the Eagles hoping to pile more woes on the Egyptians. Truly everything looked good until Oboabona decided to go down in front of our box when our keeper had the ball. What a wrong position to feign injury in order to waste time. Our keeper then put the ball in touch deep in our area for fair play. The Egyptians outsmarted us. The way we defended carelessly at 90th minute, sometimes you remember Mourinho in such situations. |
PietroRico:Below was my comment elsewhere. I highlighted the key issues of the match. Also, although Moses is a very good dribbler he took the ball too far from the goalkeeper when he rounded him. Kanu Nwankwo during his time would have dribbled the goalkeeper and still have the ball in his feet. It was painful to drop points so carelessly. elampiro: |
TheGoodJoe: No. It's their playing style. Ighalo has more mobility and build up play than Inzaghi and Chicharito. Yekini as prolific as he was had no build up play. Despite Inzaghi's supposed lack of build up play, he is one of the best scorers ever. It's just playing style. Using Aguero as an instance, one of world top 5 strikers at the moment is ridiculous. I can see you are a City fan. So you would naturally support Iheanacho. Iheanacho was not in the game today, the only reason I wanted him in was his eyes for goal. But if he were the point man, he would have been clipped. |
TheGoodJoe:Aguero's game is different. Moreover Aguero is a better striker/point man than Ighalo. And Ighalo is a better striker/point man than Iheanacho. If Iheanacho played as 9 and dropped deep, that frees one Egyptian central defender to stall the build up of the Eagles. I think you are taking your eyes off individual attributes. For instance, Rooney naturally drop deep to involve in build up play. Bervatov does same. Torres does same. But Drogba, Van Persie tend to play around the box. Chicharito and Inaghi likes inside the box. I didn't expect Ighalo to play any differently other than hang around, hold the ball and wait for moments. |

Rooney shine against a 'star studded' FRIENDLY match ......
