Genk midfielder Sander Berge arrives for medical |
Expert17:I understand your point. I always had my doubt about him even when he appeared to be saving us from 2014 to 2018. He actually cost us the 2011/2012 EPL title when City won it. He made lots of mistakes and his lack of aerial ability was glaring to me. He slightly improved on that but still a mediocre. Now that his area of strength are currently off, hmmm big worry. But I doubt if Romero is the replacement. |
Expert17:How did you know this? |
izzou:Romero is not complete. He has weak reflex. |
izzou:Are you just knowing it? He picks aerial balls with ease. It was the reason he did well in the Europa we won under Mourinho. |
De Gea is a liability to our defence of aerial balls. His inability to come out to pick corner kicks a d crossings puts the defence under pressure. |
eph12:Since you did not prove, the me too no prove. |
eph12:Nothing to dig. You know deep down nothing like that. |
eph12:I asked first. Prove and I will prove. |
See as Romero they pick corner kicks |
eph12:You have to prove where anyone said a full back should not be trying to. Otherwise you no know book |
eph12:It is not his primary duty either in Inter |
eph12:No, Ashley Young cannot cross. Someone who has not Assisted a goal in Man United in the EPL this season despite being our set piece taker, made an Assist with a cross from open play. In United, the forward players would have allowed the cross to gone to nothing and they will say our full backs and midfield do not support. |

larride:Whoscored will award extra marks to the striker. For instance, Salah earned far more than the points earned from goal scored, when he scored against United. Whoscored noted his long run, holding off a marker and the going to score. If he dribbled a player in the process, whoscored would still add marks. Going back to the argument, the chance created he I implied is the extra work done by a forward. Diego Maradona goal against England was Assisted by someone, but who talks about a pass given in own half? Maradona effort carrying the ball from his own half past 5 defenders to score is the kind of 'creating chance for self' I am talking about here. We know someone gave an Assist. |
larride:What about when a player disposed an opponent to score a goal? Or when a player recovers a ball to score a goal? Or when a player capitalized on deflection (off its initial target)to score a goal? Or when a player reads a poor back pass from a defender to the goalkeeper to score a goal? Any in case, what I meant is that there chances created for tap in, there are chances created for a striker to do an extra labour before he can score. Mane and Salah will more liekly score from a chance that required an extra labour like beating a last man, running half of the field when through, shaking defence, etc |
eph12:But Arnold has created bulk of his Assists from corner kicks. Not from crossing |
eph12:1. This has been implied in the course of this argument like two times. 2. I am still waiting for someone to tell me where I ever said that only our forward should be in the opposition half. You guys purposeful want to misunderstand me to advance your arguments. I have said a zillion times that we are talking about primary functions. However, our AM and CMs still lead in chances created in Man United. 3. Our midfielders are usually in the build up play or trying to score. McTominay has 3 goals. Pogba has missed free header from inside the 6 yards box. 4. That was because Fletcher was a good header of the ball. Pogba would have scored some already he is a poor header of the ball like Martial, Rashford, etc. Fellaini use d to score from heading. 5. If we have not been having extra bodies, how come we have been playing more in the final third from the matches I watch? Our midfielders appear to even be involved in final third play than Liverpool midfielders. |
There are some areas I have agreed or partially agreed with you. I am not just arguing to win argument. I have said our set pieces look weak to me. So may be we can give Kudos to Arnold. Nevertheless, we were scoring set plays last season when we had Fellaini, Lukaku and Smalling. Which makes one to ask, what has happened? We still have Mata who can cross well |
obainojazz:Every coach does that. Depending on how a player is more likely to score. It is a common tactics sense. Which coach tells a player to give ball to a player that is unlikely score? |
eph12:Even the goalkeeper has a duty in a build up play, but it is the primary duty of the forward players to break down defence. Mind you, elampawa is nit my moniker. You may be inviting a fight if you choose to go that angle. |
izzou:I never argued that Mane is a better scorer than Rashford. But Mane is a better forward. He and Salah had a better ball control skill, quality first touch and positional sense. So they will ordinary invite passes more than our forwards. Big chances missed doesn't reflect the quality of forward. Van Persie missed the highest number of big chances (23) in the EPL in 2012/2013 when we won the league. He won the golden boot that year. He was the best striker in the league but missed the highest number of big chances. In contrast, Rooney only missed 8 Chicharito 10 |
obainojazz:Phil Jones once locked down Robben and Ribery at Old Trafford. He also did a decent job against Madrid inthe UCL in Spain. It didnt take a way the world class from the those players. So if you are asked to choose, you will pick Martial and Rashford over Salah and Mane? |
larride:Salah and Mane have been closed to winning the Ballon D'or but where is any of our attackers? Salah and Mane >>>> Rasfford and Martial. What I see these guys do, Mane, Salah, Sterling, is their ability to make the opposition defence get confused when they approach them zigzagly on the run. They know what to do where it matters most. Rashford is a very good dribbler on the run, but once in the tight box area he gets confused. Martial is weak far from the goal but a better dribbler near the opposition box with his close control. But none has what it takes to cause the big confusion with swift movement and close control in opposition box area Missing big chances is not such an important stats compared to creating big chance. A player can miss a big chance he created for himself. |
eph12:The fear that Messi, Suarez and co will wreck havoc on the opposition defence makes the other team and midfield to seat back in their half when they are playing Barca. Same with with Liverpool. But United, even relegation teams know that our attack is easily tamed. So they can venture |
eph12:What if those players are responsible for the big chances in the first place due to their dribbling? A team with Messi or Maradona or Pele or Ronaldinho will create more chances due to their threat and dribbling in the attacking area. See those teams that parked bus against us, it is Martial, James, Rashfird and Pereira duty to break them down with dribbling, close control etc. Park bus against Mane, Salah, Gabriel, Silva they will find a way. Even Nani those days. |
patrickmuf:Then you no sabi watch ball |
patrickmuf:How do you know those were big chances? Do you know how a big chance is recorded? Henderson has created 7 big chances this season. You mean 3 came in one match against Everton? |
patrickmuf:Player.............Minutes played .....Assists Maguire..............15058................9 Dijk......................17098................4 Maguire has only Assisted 1 since coming to United. He Assisted 7 in Leicester and Hull. 1 for England in the world cup. Dijk only started Assisting or has Assisted when he played in Liverpool for Ballon D'or candidates like Mane and Salah. Previous club nil. Netherlands nil. |
In Man United, the players who have created the most chances this season are Attacking Midfielders followed by Central Midfielders with Rashford and Young. It is not like the attackers are even creating the most. |
Neymar and Messi at one point were missing the highest number of big chances in Laliga. But one thing, they were the ones dribbling their ways into such positions to begin with. |
Stop comparing world class Mane and Salah to upcoming Rashford and Martial. Those guys in Liverpool are Ballon D'or products. Mane might miss big chances but go and check, he must have dribbled defenders to such position in most of the times, not necessarily due to pass. |
